Help updating rooted Gingerbread 2.3.5 to JB! - Motorola Droid RAZR

My friend asked me to help him with his RAZR MAXX and I'm trying to get him to CM 10.2 or on Jellybean anyway. It is running rooted stock Moto Blur on Gingerbread 2.3.5. The OTA update fails, my guess is because of the root, but I was able to put safestrap 1.0 on it but I can't update it to CM 10 because it needs safestrap 3. I have had no luck in finding an unroot method, any suggestions?

Flash a stock jelly bean ROM using rsd lite, then re-root.

Thanks, I'll give it a try next time I see him and let you know how it went.

Safestrap will fc if you are not rooted. Make sure your root is working, and that you are using safestrap 2.0 if you are already on ICS.

Need help with OTA/updating

So I uses the ICS Installer v1.0 by Rouxe41, for the leak of android 4.0.3.( SV 6.14.75) a while back, i'm still on it but i want to get to .211. I know i have to get to the stock OTA first.
I'm afraid of soft bricking my phone by just letting the OTA run. Should i use RSD, if so what files and how. Can i just get the OTA and use Voodo root keeper and be fine? How do i go about gettting this and from there how do i go about getting to .211 (.211 is the latest leak, right?)?
Is your stock os gb?

If so download droid razr utitlity 1.4, go into ap fastboot, run option 1 and you should go back to stock os where you can do ota's. I had the same problem when i was going from eclipse on gb to ota ics official.

Need help flashing ICS on GB RAZR Maxx

A while back I rooted and installed safestrap recovery on my razr but never got around to installing a custom ics rom, and now my phone is unable to update to ics. So basically all I need is a little help getting pointed in the right direction to getting ICS on my razr.
Do you have xt912 or xt910?
With the xt910 (gsm) you can rsd lite with ics fastboot or update.zip
Evening you need can be found in the development section

Just like marconz said, I would recommend that you upgrade it using any fastboot images for your device, found here.
Please note that for most fastboot firmwares, you won't be able to downgrade your phone after upgrading it.

The ota for jb on the og RAZR and Maxx was for 4.1.2 not 4.2.1 at least that's what I got. Anyone else get something different?

Yes, there's a thread for it somewhere around here, personally I would either try the dual boot option, or wait for the official ota, judging by the accidental leak I would assume they are working hard to push the official soon.

I can confirm this works with the OFFICIAL 4.1.2 release (not the December 24th one). Also, I didn't do a FDR. I DID enable the stock apps I disabled though. Also, when you unzip the root exploit zip file, do not rename the folder it creates. I kept running into an issue of it not working, until i just unzipped and ran the .bat file. It worked smooth after that. I was running .211 when I installed the OTA final update today, to clarify.

How do I know this version gives the right to an root?,
XT910 EMEA 4.1.2 Root ?

[Q] ISC or JB root

Getting ready to do my very first root on my Razr Maxx XT912.
Currently running 4.0.4
Should I OTA to JB then root, or root from ICS or does it really matter?
Any benefits or downsides to either?
Thanks,
Jeff

You might get more support on XDA if you stay on ICS, esp if the jb OTA just came online. I personally don't think there's all that much benefit, you can always do your prl, profile, update, once you root anyway. But if you want to flash a custom jb ROM, all the ones I've flashed require you to flash a stock one first. Then if that's the case, then yeah, def ota to jb so you have it already when you flag a custom jb.good luck. Read read read before you root!

Well went to JB before root. Then found out they did away with speed dial. I loved speed dial! Anyway everything works out great. Thanks those that replied.
