[MODEM][Zip] Modems for Loki'd & Safestrap roms (12/03/2014) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I was asked to post these, so here are all the modems. They can be flashed in both Loki and Safestrap recoveries. You can flash back and forward as you like. The 3rd is from the dev. GS4 and works with consumer GS4's as well. In Safestrap if you flash it on the non-safe side (rom slot sides) it will still show on the safe side, don't worry you can still flash back. If needed pm or post a reply and ill put up the Odin tar's as needed or you can extract the modem.bin files and create an odin image yourself, all modem.bin files are trimmed of the padded zeroes and will register as signed. For most users flashing the modem only zips is all thats needed and the safest option. Do not flash any of the NON-HLOS + modem zips beyond MDK if your on mdk, and none past ME7 if your on Safestrap with a ME7 base and none past MI1 if your using Safestrap with a MI1 base.
Note: CM users, if you use the VRUEMJ7 modem with NON-HLOS.bin you will lose audio until you flash a cm build made on 10/29 or later!
The nonhlos packages are for recovery if you have problems! ONLY FLASH THE NONHLOS and MODEM PACKAGES OF THE BOOTLOADER YOU ARE ON!
MODEMS ONLY: (Flash these 99% of the time)

Are any of these modems dependent on the system/rom for any features?

Yeah especially when it comes to safestrap. If you're using safestrap and you're on a ME7 rom, then you will only have wifi work on the ME7 modem, 4g will still work but wifi wont. Ive had some success on using the VRUDMI1 modem with ME7 roms in safestrap, but not reliably. The only reason I havent released the deodexed stock root VRUDMI1 rom is because I was only able to to get wifi and 4g both working with a ME7 bootloader once and havent been able to repeat. Loki'd people are at an advantage here when it comes to flashing modems.

Hrmm, Interesting. I'm still on stock ME7 with safestrap and Slot 1 Hyperdrive Rom, I flashed the VRUDMI1 modem to that slot and haven't noticed any issues with WIFI nor 4G.

I've had awful connections with the md1 modern running HD and SS, thanks for the links, reverting back to ME7 now

I'm currently on MDK and installed the MI1 modem with no problems. 4G and WiFi work.

Yeah, I'm on MDK as well and have flashed all but the Dev GS4 modem and all are working with no flaws.

Im on safestrap but i wanted the old radios because they work better for me. I had no idea you could flash radios with safestrap.
this is how i feel right now..

How is the latest modem working on the Dev Ed?

I tried MI1 twice and ME7 now. I'm confused. I thought it would change the baseband in 'About phone' but it hasn't budged from the dev stock OYUAMDK So, not sure if it's actually "taking" on my phone. I'm installing the zips in TWRP, apparently successful.

Edit: Links have now been changed to a better file host.

Cool. I'll re-d/l. I thought the MD5s on my end matched yours so I didn't expect any trouble.
I flashed someone else's ME7 from many months ago and that did change my baseband. I'll try yours again.
Update: New host, file MD5 matched the previous. It didn't change the baseband. I attempted the MI1. My baseband remained ME7. First reboot hung on initial splash and had to do a battery pull. But, I've had to do that occasionally anyway since going a non - stock ROM. Not sure why.

Try wiping cache/dalvik then fix permissions. Its prob because ss doesn't have stock modules

thats what a lot of people are saying.
yeah
Not that it means a ton but I flashed the ME7 modem about a week ago and have noticed slightly better signal strength both at work and home

Soft Brick perhaps?

Backstory:
So last night my phone turned off by itself and wouldn't turn back on. My first thought it something with the ROM. So I boot to recovery and start a backup before I try to wipe/format etc. Long story short, it ended up being the battery just ate sh*t. So I got a new battery from Verizon, after I tried to ODIN back to stock though...
Problem:
I was on Hyperdrive RLS15, and I tried to Odin open1your1eyes MDK NoWipe. But my phone is just hanging on the Verizon screen. (it has been over half hr) My phone is MDK base (no safestrap), is that the right thing to flash? Is there anything else I have to do?
Thanks in advance, and forgive my naiveness. :silly:

Thanks, yes that worked. :good::good:
The name scared me (MKD) until I realized it was just a typo.
EDIT: A mod should really fix that. It's been like that since September even though a MKD never existed.

Also I include a link to versions of MDK (full-wipe) and MJ7 (full-wipe) I uploaded (that is I didn't mirror them) in the MK2 Odin tar thread.
I see you were successful but ill include my link anyway. Maybe this will help others who read this.

So I'm on MDK now with HD RLS15, is there any benefit flashing up to MJ7 or MK2? Do they all require Odin or is there recovery flashables?
Thanks

Don't do it. A part of me dies everytime i hear someone intentionally upgraded their S4 from MDK to a newer locked down version.

You're going to want to keep your bootloader MDK. With MDK you an flash any ROM you want, AOSP , AOKP , CM , TW..... 4.3...4.4 you name it.
If you updated to MK2 base you'd take away your options. You'd only be able to flash TW ROMs that are based on whatever build your phone is ...MK2 is 4.3 . And your only recovery would be SafeStrap. Not TWRP or CWM
How did end up with HD15 ? Flashed in recovery right? You can find any number of ROMs on these forums that are based off of MK2 or MJ7 and just flash them in recovery.

Gotcha. Yes recovery. HD says it's MK2 based, but my phone build still says MDK in the About screen. That's why I was wondering. Come to think of it though, doesn't that just display the Modem version (which is recovery flashable), correct?

Yes. MDK is your bootloader/Build and MK2 would be your baseband/modem.
Grab this app and it will show you everything https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
And Surge has a thread on here of all our modems which are flashable through recovery although your probably good to stick with MK2 for now.

An Aroma Installer
35 Themes that are adapted to support Modular App Theming (Individual Per-App Theming) + Brand New S6 Theme gDux Exclusively Built for This ROM!
Theres also app packages like the MX5 Flyme, CM12.1, HTC which contain all known ported apps compatible with S4 most are system apps and theres way too many to list.

OC1 SAFESTRAP SAFE UPGRADEhttps://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347816543
Safestrap OF1 Custom ROM Upgrader needs different modules for wifi to work currently not working.
dOPE Layers Theme Park v2 b1 (Has 138 Themes and Modular Theming Enabled)
gogolie's Individual Zip Flashable S6 Theme Directory (download single .zip of theme and flash it, that simple!)
Installation:
Simply flash the ROM .zip in Safestrap (or TWRP, etc if using something other than Safestrap. gDux will work on any S4 but I'm only offering support for Safestrap Users. MDK or other phone variants will need to install APNs, Modules, Custom Kernel, Modem all Lollipop Safe for best results.) to simplify your life I've also created the SS OF1 Upgrader zip I recommend downloading that and flashing immediately after installing the ROM. This will upgrade your Modem, HLOS and Boot.img to OF1. Now you can restart your phone. I didn't get much tested in terms of available MODs in the Aroma installer (theres a lot of them) so if you select 1 and the installer crashes or you end up stuck in a bootloop, reinstall without that option.
Special Thanks to @Albe95 for his S6 ROM and permission to use it as a base!
If You Enjoy The ROM Then Donate to The Cause. I Won't Be Doing This Much Longer Without More Support and Thanks for the Time and Money I Spend Out of Pocket Making and Testing and Everything that Goes With This Often Frustrating Hobby.

BRAND NU: gDux v2.1 for Verizon S4 - Aroma Install / Slim Version NCx (NC2 / NC5 +)
New Update features an Aroma installer with options for fonts, apps, new themes, new theme packs, new pretty much everything. I became a perfectionist on this one and then got side tracked with a ton of ports I'm sorry if youve been waiting, but here it is!!!! The Alternate Theme is a take on kind of a visual cross between a blackened S5 and Navy Theme with Gray and Black AOSP type of feel to it does away with 3d everything and has a very sharp clean look to the theme.
Please note only the full version has an Aroma installer. the slim is just a simple update script. the slim is slightly different overall and has very few apps and mods built in. both should have my auto-root so flashing supersu after installing isnt necessary. and modules should be baked into both so you'll only need to flash your modules or my infamous WiFi fixes if WiFi isn't working after you first try the ROM. If your installing the ROM on either an MDK or another carrier you need to flash appropriate custom kernel & or APNs or Compatability Pack.
Installation:
Installing is as easy as downloading, and installing the .zip through either Safestrap or a custom recovery like TWRP (these are for sure compatible others may work too). Restart and enjoy.

PS: I'll be posting screenshots as soon as I can (the ROM looks way better than the 2.0 version did! Its all themed now and no white!) but if users could post theirs it'd be appreciated!! If you like the ROM be sure and donate or note the ROM name your donating towards when you paypal so I know as I'm only going to be supporting a few of my most liked by donator's ROM's in the near future as its simply too much work for 1 man and no money to keep up with over 10 ROMs and multiples threads.
Thanks for trying gDux!!!

Archived gDux 2.0 OP:
HELLO FELLOW ROM LOVERS,
Here is another present from me... I present to you the first NC2 / NC5 Custom Rom built on and for the new Verizon 4.4.2 updates. This was tested on both but primarily NC2 and my upgrading methods were used and worked the best.
Built from ground up again (like the gDux 1.1.1 from yesterday my last 4.3 release ever.) this features themed pretty much everything (if not i'll get to it in the next version). Along with a few tweaks and mods left unmentioned. Dont do drugs kdis they affect the memory. Actually shouldnt be talking to any kids dont flash ROMs without your parents consent. People don't hold the handicapped dude hostage if this messes up your phone. ITs been tested up and down but some ppl got bad luck... so don't hold me or XDA or anyone that flashes or developers or Verizon responsible for anything bad that happens to your phone from here out.... ok u can try to hold verizon its kinda their fault anyway.
How to Install with a blindfold on (as detailed as Ill ever make it):
0. If you have 4.4.2 and Safestrap already installed just flash the ROM and SuperSu and RESET BAM YOUR DONE. Otherwise Follow bellow guide!!!
1. Download the Slim ROM or Download the Full ROM along with these files: SuperSu1.94, gogOdin3.10(the newest Odin brought to u by mua 1st, QuickUpgrade NC2 Safestrap (or other custom recovery) flashable file, NC2 WiFi Fix (only flash if broken wifi in ROM),NC2 Boot.img Only.tar Odin Flashable and pickup and install Safestrap 3.72 found in AT&T S4 thread.
2. Install your version of the ROM in Safestrap 3.72 under the Stock slot. This is a dirty Flash (no wipe) so you may need to wipe the System 1st. After installing the ROM flash the NC2 QuickUpgrade then the NC2 WiFi Fix the SuperSu194 zip then (you can link the installs together so SS flashes all 4 at once.) Now instead of normal resetting go to "Reboot" under main menu of Safestrap. Choose Download Mode (or just restart and hold Vol-Down) when your into Download mode plug phone into the Computer and load up Odin 3.10 and insert the NC2 Boot img.tar into the AP slot and press Start.
3. Phone will restart, give it a minute or two if you don't hear music its not working perfectly. In this situation you'll need to download: NC2 Hlos/Modem and this NC2 Full Upgrade no Bootloaders.tar (both are flashable only in Odin 3.10) now restart phone to download mode again and flash these with the Full Upgrade in the AP slot and the hlos in the CP and press start. Phone will start once before entering Recovery automatically, don't panic completely normal its flashing the cache update now... Phone will restart automatically and now if you don't see the bootanimation or hear music you either need to start completely over. Sorry about the music if its not your personal preference I've got a tool that will easily modify bootanimations and music (along with a lot more) in the next week or so. Just putting on finishing touches to final version 1.0.

I was in your positions too. To answer you question, no, you need Safestrap and to be rooted. Just follow the directions by Surge here: Link - 1)Do the blue steps to downgrade, then 2)Do the initial steps at the top of the OP to get NC5+root.
it is tedious, but after that you can install Safestrap and THEN get this.

yes but this is untested water... flash ROM, KT kernel or similar and SuperSu to be safe basically anything you'd need to install a 4.4.2 rom from international thread minus jrkruse's patch or who knows maybe you'll need the patch...
let me know results?

actually use my method. like stated (look in my signature) its been around for a week longer than surge's and its not tedious at all. and no you dont need Safestrap. or use the method described in the installation procedure. those are the only 2 methods supported.
I installed without safestrap successfully but I couldn't get wifi to turn on. I downloaded the wifi fix in the op but that didn't fix it. Other than that everything seemed to work.
Edit: never flashed kernel going to reload and try that

MDK? You may need to flash the MDK non-hlos modem to get wifi up and running.
Where can I find that?

+1 ditto here
Hey. I tried flashing this rom as a MDK user. I flashed the slim version and then the ktoonz kernal. The same problem happened when I tried to flash your 4.3 rom. When the rom booted up, it gave me constant "nfc services" and "Samsung Hub" force closes. It popped up so much that I could barely do anything on the rom.
I installed titanium backup and froze both, but the nfc force closed still came up. I also noticed that I had 12 kb of space left on my system rom. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?
Edit: I also tried to uninstall NFC Services and it said there was no file located for it

I'm not sure if I did something wrong but I can no longer get the phone to work on touchwiz roms at all, I am currently using AICP rom and everything works from the aosp side. But this rom, echo roms, and hyperdrive roms all lock up when I attempt to use the phone. The only odd file I did flash was the nc2 wifi fix in the op. Could that have caused my woes? If so how can i reverse it?

its definately not that file. altho if your using mdk and flash that file you can flash a custom kernel then because that file writes modules from the stock kernel to system which you shouldnt need technically... try reflashing a custom kernel and see if that changes your outcome
Download the Full ROM instructions link from the OP still leads to a 404 - file not found.

Before you start doing anything to your phone, find what build number you have. To do this go to settings >> more >> about phone. Then scroll to the bottom and find build number. Remember the last 3 characters of it because it will be referred to things across the forum.
I nor the devs who created these threads are responsible for anything that may happen or happens to your phone as a result of rooting, flashing, etc. You are choosing to do this yourself and therefore assume any/all risks involved

I recommend downloading the one for your build just in case anything goes wrong. For now I will just give you the links to the forums with the tars attached. Here is an excellent video on how to apply the Emregency tar for MK2

Safestrap
Since the bootloader is locked and the loki exploit is patched. Only those on MDK can have a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM to flash almost anything on their device. Those who are on a build above MDK (ME7, MI1, MJ7, MK2 and NC5) can only use SafeStrap to flash touchwiz based roms. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLASH A CUSTOM RECOVERY ON A BUILD ABOVE MDK. We can't flash custom kernels so we can't flash roms like CyanogenMod, and AOSP, they require a diffeent kernel. Safestrap requires root. Install safestrap as a normal apk. Thanks to @Hashcode, Without him it would be impossible to flash any custom ROM on a locked bootloader.
VZW Safestrap thread
If you are on ME7 or MI1 you can use Safetrap 3.65 to flash 4.2.2 touchwiz based ROM's in ROM-slots. I recommend you update to MK2 and install Safestrap 3.71
If you are on MJ7 of MK2 you can use Safestrap 3.71 to flash 4.3 touchwiz based ROM's in ROM-slots. Heres a list of compatible 4.3 ROM's
If you are on NC5 you can use the @muniz_ri's SafeStrap 3.7.5 to flash 4.4.2 touchwiz based ROM's. Here's a WIP list of 4.4.2 Compatible ROM's NC5 Modules

Anything you want me to add to it?
Saferoot will work at least on ME7 and MI1. Probably also MDK, but I wouldn't recommend mixing that up with the Loki work.
It's a lot smaller download than, say, Root de la Vega.
Should I maybe add a 4.4.2 SS Compatible ROM list?

Phone will not work after rsl17
I have been looking and reading about how to get my phone back. I tried uploading the new hyperdrive RSL17 from RSL15 and it just looped on the kitkat/hyperdrive screen. I did not read up on having to upgrade to kitkat and that is where my issues lies. I tried to use the emergency and no wipe and they all failed. I got the Kies format error on it now when i turn it on. any suggestions on what I can do to get my phone back? oh and it is a verizon s4:fingers-crossed:
Thanks

Did you try the NC5 Emergency, if that fails try a different usb cable of try a different usb port.
Any chance there's an emergency tar file for NC2? I haven't been able to find one anywhere and I kinda need it.

Use the NC2 leak tar.
I've read up a bit, but havent been able to confirm something and was hoping someone might be able to help...
Right now, I am on 4.3 MJ7 rooted, and want to upgrade to 4.4 NC5 and then root. I don't care about flashing ROMs, just want root access...
From what I can tell, I have two options, based on what I have done in the past
1) I can ODIN a no-wipe 4.3 MJ7 on my device, so then I can OTA to 4.4, and then root via towelrool
or
2) I can use ODIN directly to 4.4 and then root.
Is there any difference in the end result between the two, or will they get me to the same spot? Also, the link for the no-wipe MJ7 (at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507217 ) seems broken, so unless someone has an updated like, I may have to just do #2 anyway.
Thanks for any help

In did that a while ago when the NC5 OTA came out. After that you can root with towel root.

What is the meaning of SS? Can I flash a kernel with safe strap , I'm on NC5

[Q] Should I install NC5 modem? (MDK base)

VZW S4 16GB
MDK bootloader
MK2 modem currently
Vanir 4.4.4
TWRP recovery
I'm running Vanir (previously 4.3, now 4.4) with the MK2 modem. Clean flashes with wipes, both ROM and modem. Bluetooth has always been a little finicky, more so with the 4.4 upgrade. Never had a problem with my cars with previous phones (e.g S3). Also, data/LTE occasionally stops working requiring a reboot (every few days). A search of the Vanir thread doesn't bring up any persistent issues with the ROM itself.
Would there be any issue installing the NC5 modem?
I was going to try reflashing the MK2 modem, and then Vanir itself. However, since the issues are all modem related, I thought I'd try NC5 first. I'm also wondering if 4.4.4 has any issues with older modems.
I'm not mdk but I have always used gigilies nc2 wifi fix zip...never any issue with wifi..bluetooth...GPS on any custom rom...ever.
sent by safestrap powered echo v26
You don't want the MK2 modem. Either flash gigiles fix as decaturbob said or the nc2 or nc5 stand alone modems. Use the modem for the rom you are running.
Here is a list of modem for S4 phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487298

The issues with your data are most likely not the modem. A few of us had this same problem on various aosp Roms and switching modems did nothing at all... It was to do with the apns in the accrual ROM. Bluetooth as well. Some had issues with BT on Vanir too I recall.
One of my friends on here can't even run certain Roms I can due to the BT deal and we have our S4s set up the same exact way...
In the end I suppose it can't hurt trying a new modem. The NC5 one should cover you but pretty much just keep trying different Roms as well and see if those problems continue...

I presume what you mean is that the AOSP ROMs were built off a specific ROM as base, rather than compiled from scratch, and that ROM did not have complete APNs for VZW? Was there a fix to add the correct APNs?
Is the gogolie fix for wi-fi only? I don't have any problems with wifi.
I found gigilie's SafeUp/Down post, but couldn't find the post about the wifi fix. I found a repository "gogolie mogolie" on androidfilehost. Is that trustworthy?
I think I'll try to upgrade to NC5 first, then gigilie's fix.
@mageus if you go to this thread there are the zips you need. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487298
you have no need for the wifi fixes or nc2/nc5 modules
the only benefit from mj7-nc5 is that is enables aws band 4.
other than that the modem you choose should be the one that give you the best service/reception.
you will just have to try them out.
