Wifi Calling with Revolution HD? - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

Hi guys,
I have a T-Mobile HTC One and last night I unlocked, rooted, and flashed ARHD 30.0. I used to have the capability of Wifi calling, which T-Mobile offers for free. For those of you unfamiliar who may be familiar with a substitute, this feature allows users to call and text over Wifi, which is especially useful when service is unavailable.
Ever since I flashed the ROM, this feature doesn't show up in my settings. Does anyone know of a substitute that has the same or similar features? Also, does anyone know of the newest Revolution ROM that includes this capability? I'd like the newest possible ROM.
Thanks

I believe when T mobile release 4.3 for the One the devs will be able to include wifi calling in their ROMs. I don't know of any alternatives. 4.3 is supposed to go out on Monday so it shouldn't too much longer...

OK great. So you think it should be available in the next couple of weeks? Does Mike make these ROMs specifically for different carriers or is it a one ROM fits all kind of thing?
Also, if I flash a newer ROM, do I lose all my data on my phone? And if so, is there a way to backup and restore everything including my apps and settings?
I'm pretty new to this. Thanks for your help.

If you're on 4.1.2 right on you're going to get some annoying problems when first updating.
You'll most likely just want to do a complete wipe of your entire phone. (backup what you need)
There is a adb command you can run, check the trickdroid website there's a tutorial.
If we get an update Monday, Wi-Fi calling should be added relatively quickly to the existing ROMs. Like a day or two.

Ok great. Will the new Revolution HD ROM have a different version number? I just want to make sure I don't miss it. And when it is released, where will be the first place it will be announced? I'm very anxious to get my W-Fi calling back, since I have poor reception at school and work, but Wi-Fi is more readily available.

FYI, Insertcoin 5.0-5 incorporated the latest T-Mo update, and now has working Wi-fi calling on T-Mobile. ARHD will likely upgrade soon too, but these roms are somewhat similar and Insertcoin runs great. Here's a link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279766

Hmm. I may have to try InsertCoin if Mike doesn't update his ROM. He just released a new version of ARHD (31.0) and it doesn't say anywhere that he's added WiFi calling. So I'm not sure if he is planning on doing it in the next couple of weeks or if he's just going to forget about it.

I bit the bullet and tried insert coin, not too impressed compared to trickdroid although it's probably just due to my ignorance.
No back4menu baked in
Seems a bit sluggish compared to trickdroid, which was already noticibly slower than when I first flashed it months ago
Didn't remove all the bloat I asked it to
Didn't allow my play store apps to auto d/l (weird one - tried two flashes and no dice, tried a different 4.3 rom and all my apps came right back)
That said, it is 4.3 with wifi calling but I'm still rolling back to 4.1.2 for now and sending trickdroids guy 10$ on paypal with a note about wifi calling

There's a 4.3 Rom by beholdthis, I think, that has Wi-Fi calling and works perfectly well. And it's customizable with add-ons.

Hmmm I came from Trickdroid, then ARHD and have stayed on Insertcoin; zero lag here and no problems auto downloading apps at all. Also Xposed mods work too. But, everyone has their rom preferences, so good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. behold_this's ROM looks promising, but I messaged mike and he said wifi calling "will come" so I think I'm going to hold off for a few more weeks and hopefully he'll have made the ROM by then.

 Good to know im actually looking for a rom with wifi calling since i dont have great coverage where i live. ill check the mentioned roms out, although was really interested on pacman rom

I will be keeping an eye out for this as well. I sent a PM to the developer for AR HD a day or so ago asking, but no response yet.

I'm no developer, but this seems like it would be pretty simple and quick to implement the WiFi calling feature from the stock T-Mobile ROM which came out almost three weeks ago. I'm really surprised it isn't out yet, especially as he seems to know that people are waiting for it. Then again, most of us aren't paying him for his work. I just don't know how much longer to wait... I seem to have terrible service and WiFi all the time.

It's not as easy as you might think. To implement Wi-Fi calling into a rom the base HAS to be the tmobile base. It's not as easy as ripping an apk out.

Um, is that exactly what we have now that the 4.3 update has been pushing HTC One Roms?

Just because the 4.3 update has pushed out doesnt mean a dev is using it as the base. Some are, some arent.

Alltel Touch Pro 2.01.671.1 ROM update

It's on HTC's website, dated July 7th. I haven't seen any other threads on it, and I wanted to see if anyone else has tried it. I've updated to it myself, and it seems to be an overall improvement over the version I had. There's really nothing much in the notes, though it seems they tweaked quite a bit. Most notably, it's done wonders for my battery life. I used to always come home with a phone that was nearly dead. Now I get home with 60-70% still left on the battery. It could be my imagination, but the phone seems a bit more responsive now as well. If the battery life is anything to go by, it could just be from general optimization of the ROM. Other points of interest... the activesync app is no longer self-launching, and Opera Mobile appears to have had an update as well.
-edit-
Here's the link: http://www.htc.com/us/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=200&act=sd&cat=all
im in the process of doing it know, ill let ya know what i think in a bit
I tried it when it 1st came out, its definitely better than the shipped rom, but its still got all of the bloatware and other b.s. that interferes with performance. IMO, you're still better off with a cooked rom.
ya i honestly cant tell a different between stock rom and this update
Oh yeah, I'm sure a cooked rom is faster. Just thought I'd put the PSA out there. It does seem to address a few issues for my launch version of the ROM.
one of these day ill get around to putting a custom rom on my phone.
thiers just to many and i cant figure out which one i want
stock
if i have already unlocked my phone and running a custom rom and want to flash to this stock rom do i need to do anything different?
No, just flash as you normally do. Every couple of flashes I go back to the stock rom anyway. Probably just the "placebo" effect, but I've convinced myself it helps.
Do it for the Radio

Notation to everyone here this ROM includes an updated radio. 1.12.20F. So that it's self should be worth it. I run NFS rom but I am going to update to this so I can grab the updated radio. I will then jump to his. My radio is currently 1.03.16F. It also has the later PRL and PRI.
I see the in the Radio Thread in this forum that they have the alltel readio without the whole ROM. So if you want go that route. I have just found that doing a stock flash every once in awhile keeps my custom flashing less problematic.
im still having problems as far as radio signal.........and the only reason i don't just upgraded the radio is their is no alltel dump yet
I also get great battery life after the update.

typing this didn't do anything...all i got was call cant be completed as dialed
One very nice discovery I made today (because of how little I actually talk on my TP) is that they've changed the call answer screen a bit. Seems they took a page from Apple's book and changed the answer and ignore buttons into a slider. You slide it all the way left to answer, and right to ignore. Should fix the accidental answer problem I know a lot of people (including myself) have had.
Will this work on Verizon TP? I know i will have to apply keyboard patch but would it work?
Radio should work no problem, especially since alltel and verizon are 1 now.
I dispise Verizon ROM. No YouTube, No Internet Sharing etc... Got it as a insurance replacement when my Alltel TP broke. They said they don't have Alltel TPs anymore.
Please give me the good news... PLEEEAAASE
PS: I already have GPS unlocked using MR1 release from Verizon.

I wouldn't attempt it if I were you. Have you considered trying a custom rom? If you've never done it I could help you through the process. Stock roms SUCK!
Can i ask you if it works in a touch pro un-locked of the vodafone Italy company?
I have an alltel touch pro but my area switched to verizon now, im assuming this won't be a problem because i didn't need to do any update when they switched so im guessing the radio won't be an issue? Really want to do this if it increases battery.
Also will this remove any settings or themes that kind of stuff?
edit nevermind i see it removes everything.
if i take my memory card out before i update can will all the programs that are one it reinstall? and when i put all my backed up data back on the device do the programs reinstall or do i have to do something to reinstall them?

[Q] Need Input for Joker CM9

Didn't want to clam up the CM9 thread with this so am asking here. I am currently running rooted stock GB on my Photon and since hearing about official ICS probably being dropped for Photon, I'm seriously considering unlocking and flashing CM9.
However, since I use this phone for business I need to know exactly what is working currently and what is not. I have not been able to find a working/non-working listing for the current build in Joker's thread and have read through the "fixes" thread.
I know 4g is not working (obviously). I also have read that camcorder and possibly mms is not working. Is this true? Saw there may be a version with mms working? How about bluetooth, gps, camera, etc? Any wifi or wireless tether issues? Is there anything with limited functionality that has no real fix yet?
**EDIT...Have given CM9 a shot and with some testing had to switch to something else.
Camera is sketchy, kinda depends on who you ask. Everything else pretty much works. Even if you find something funky it'll probably get fixed within a couple of days. Gotta love the speed of the updates.
I've run into more trouble with apps not being ICS-compliant than with the ROM itself, which is what prevents me from getting too excited.
I haven't heard anything about the official ICS being dropped though; most of that comes from people in panic mode after the EOL leak. Motorola could still support the Photon for a long while after Sprint's EOL date. EOL basically means no new ones to be sold, not that it never existed. I saw Sprint selling Heroes a couple of months ago and they were yanked years ago.

Thing that concerned me about the EOL release is Sprint stating that the only updates that will be released for those devices are critical updates. Sprint will still have to test and approve ICS once Moto is done with it which may not happen now.
As for CM9, does camcorder work for you? Are you on the latest build?
I switched back to stock so I can't test it but the still camera worked fine for me this morning. I was running 0.4.2.1.
Anyone know where I can get the pudding unlocker? Google doesn't turn up anything for me and links are down.
Edit...I used the smaller one. Noticed it is unlocked with that so ignore my request.
Well I'm on MIUI 2.3.16, which is based on Joker's CM9, and my video camera is extremely laggy. It also crashes when I try to hit the stop record button. Also, flash player in the browser is messed up. For the most part though everything works. You can get MMS working by using GoSMSPro, or setting up APNs.
Wifi, and wireless tether works perfectly fine for me. Hope this helps.
Edit, The3Bill just put up a fix for MMS.

[Q] Got a Rezound last week, has the recent leaked ICS Build, some questions/concerns

So, I got a Rezound last week, kind of hoped that it would still have GB on it, but found out it had that recent ICS build on there. I didn't think much of it until a couple days ago...
First, I think I know the answer already, but since I have this "leaked build", I'm guessing there's no going back to stock GB? What was upgraded besides the ROM (baseband, firmware, etc)?
Second, people are saying that when I talk, it starts out at normal volume, then sounds like I'm holding the phone about 2 feet in front of me while talking (in other words sounding very distant), and coming back... Now, the only person who has actually described the problem is my dad, who has a Thunderbolt. My wife has an Inc2, and has not mentioned any problems, however she may not know what to listen for, as well as others, etc... I've also tried disabling 4g and using 3g only. I am wondering if this is some kind of radio issue?
Third, the bluetooth doesn't seem to have a lot of range. I have a couple bluetooth devices I use often. The first one is a Panasonic KX-TG6581 cordless phone which utilizes bluetooth on the handset to be used as an extension to the cell phone. On previous phones I got whole house coverage (I live in a single level 3000sq ft home). On the Rezound it disconnects at the ends of the house... I also have a Turtle Beach headset equipped with bluetooth. It seems to work fine when initially calling or getting a call, but then there's there's this weird static (kind of sounds like old dial up negotiating tones?). I wonder if this is because of bluetooth 3.0, but not ruling out the headset and rf/bluetooth interference
Last, even running with the extended battery, unless I shut off mobile data altogether when at home (which I should probably be doing anyway, but coming from other 4g phones I never noticed until now), I can stare it for 5 min and watch the percentage dropping. On wifi, not too bad. Just worried if I'm in 4g all day with no wifi will the extended battery last, say 12 hrs? I have no problems keeping it on AC power when at home.
Hope I didn't sound too noobish LOL... thanks for any suggestions.

how about re-flashing the leaked ics to see if the radio, bluetooth, and battery issues can be fixed.

When I got the phone, we did the sale inside a VZW store, the salesperson turned it on, and it was at the Welcome to Android screen... Thought it looked like ICS but wasn't 100% sure (should have double checked, I know)... even the rep didn't check... So, I'm guessing it was a fresh flash? Of course, not knowing exactly where it originally came from... don't know if that would make a difference?

Okay.. I'm a bit confused. Were there earlier leaks that would just let you install on a stock phone? I'm not rooted and saw that it was S-ON when I was in the bootloader?
Is the latest ICS the one that was released around 3/17? I just want to make sure I got the right one here...

Yeah there have been a few leaks. The older ones didn't run so well and didn't have the updated radios or hboot. The RUUs are supposed to be run on a locked phone. They are signed releases from HTC. Yes it was leaked around 3/17. I am on it as are many others and it runs fine.

[Info] Radio problems - FIX

.... will not be anything that is resolved here. It is a problem with the firmware for ICS.
I was talking to somebody at sprint today while I was there and showing them my device and asking if there will be any issues caused by having a virgin mobile ROM on the device. The lady explained to me that they are exactly the same, get the same reception, same update packages, and work on the same network, etc., etc.... All of this was known to me to some extent, but wanted to hear it from somebody at the company... and told me that the only problem they are having is with ICS in general is that there have been data/radio issues with the Galaxy Nexus line as well ever since it released on their network a few weeks ago.
Furthermore, she explained that this was a known bug/issue and that she knew for a fact that an update would be coming with a fix and that it was being worked on right now.
The reason I wanted to share this was because I have seen a lot of misinformation floating around about 1.) having a virgin mobile ROM on your device and 2.) virgin mobile ROM causing data issues - which is not the cause of the issue as I mentioned just now.
Just want you all to be aware of this in case you were thinking having this software and firmware on your device would cause any issues with your billing, your contract, etc. Simply put - it will not. Virgin mobile is owned by sprint, they run on the same towers, same network, and info of accounts is stored in the same place. You could literally walk into a sprint store to pay your bill for your virgin mobile account.
All is well. All is safe. An update will come to fix the data issues, keep your eyes peeled for it folks. We are not given source code for radios, etc., so unfortunately that needs to be fixed on the carrier/manufacturer end - and as I said, it will be fixed and they are working on it. Sit tight.
Hope this cleared up any misconception floating around.
So, you don't really know how to fix it then? Forgive me for being a little confused, but your title is slightly misleading.
Oh man, you have no idea how much I was freaking out about the billing. Thanks man. (Y)

yeah, i can see the confusion there....
re-worded, i would say it appeared to me that people thought there were data issues because of being on a virgin mobile ROM. The point I am trying to express is that the problem is the firmware, not because the ROM is for the virgin mobile 3D - if this same firmware was released for "official sprint RUU" where your banner said "sprint" they would still be having the same issues. Ex.: the lady at sprint said the galaxy nexus was having the same issue.
If that makes sense.
If not, not sure how else I can explain it.
It seemed people were crediting the problem to the fact that there device is attached to virgin mobile - this is not the case.
EDIT*** lol, nice ninja edit haus - you gotta be quicker than that roffle

So, you don't really know how to fix it then? Forgive me for being a little confused, but your title is slightly misleading.

I thought it was the ROM side that is giving the PRL/Data roaming and all the other network problems. Not the firmware. I say this because people have posted that they flashed the firmware, flashed the VM ICS ROM. Then went back to a GB ROM (MeanROM, MIUI, etc) and they had everything working, even though they were on the leaked firmware. But if you flashed that firmware, chad and another dev found a fix, they are going to release it sometime soon.

after half a day of having flashing back they determined the problem to be gone??
......
the issues being caused by the firmware are not constant, and apparently are rather random from what I have read. a perfect example is my own device... no issues with new firmware until today (day 3) of having it, even tho many people reported issues after just a couple of hours.
I'll talk with chad and see what he is cooking up... I havent talked to him a whole lot this weekend.

I've been saying that the roaming problem (if it truly exists outside of people's self affirming observations) only exists on this ROM due to ICS and the lack of roaming options on the rom itself. The radios do nothing to mess up roaming. This is all due to it being a TEST rom that we flashed. It's absurd to think that there is a perfectly functional rom sitting around with no bugs if the only leak we can get is a Virgin Mobile version. We have a beta rom and beta radios, and we should realize that's what we signed up for when we flashed it in the first place.

this is true... but again, what is your explanation of the galaxy nexus having the same issue, and the fact that a sprint rep was entirely aware of the issue and that is was being worked on and would come in an update?
and surprise, but any new technology is "beta" ..... whether it is an official release or not. it is the price you pay for cutting edge technology.

So in essence this means that the firmware in the new radio update, which is necessary/part of ics to run on phones is the heart of the data, sms, etc. issues people are having?
There are some differences between how the ROM interacts with the both radios but so far it looks like everything can still be made to work.
If you're having issues with roaming try opening up the build.prop and change 'persist.radio.voice.dom.roam=0' to 'persist.radio.voice.dom.roam=1', and then use setprop to reset it. I haven't been able to test it yet but I'm fairly certain that will bring back roaming.

from what the lady explained to me, yes it is... intermittent data loss is a bug within the new firmware for ICS
my point here is that it has nothing to do with your ROM being intended for a virgin mobile 3D. it is because of a bug within the firmware for the radios.
as i said, sprint rep explained this to me, and seemed very confident in the way she explained it - confirming it as a known issue, and also knowing that it would be fixed soon because it was being worked on and said it would be serviced as a firmware update.

You think a sprint tech in the store is an authority !!
For one thing, many may not care, you lose VPN capabilities. Which I need and want and has nothing to do with ICS. Flashed back to GingerBread an it's still gone.
You may also lose the ability to properly update the PRI when new ones come out with official ICS.
It is not just a banner issue.
I'm not in a roaming area to confirm roaming issues but I believe folks when they say they can no longer roam on th 3G. I never touched my default roaming settings and it always worked fine. You may be right that roaming is only ICS issue. But it smells like it's way more than that by folks reports. And quite believable given the phone half believes it's on Virgin Mobile.
It is the PRI which manages routing that is not correct. And different folks will get different issues depending on their location.
I don't think chad and friends would be working so hard to fix it if it was such minor issue and I trust them more than some sprint sales person.
Like was stated above. There are two kinds of people. Those with issues and those with no issues, YET !!
And please FIX the broken subject.
This all reeks of a panic due to us not understanding the new tech in the build we have. These issues may be a side effect of the ICS ROM or could just be issues with the way ICS interacts with the radios. The only information we have is hearsay, and people tend to overestimate effects of things when they don't know what they're looking for.
We get what we deserve for flashing beta radios and a beta rom, tbh. We accepted any possible problems by flashing these and we have nobody to blame but ourselves for not researching first.
"issues" is a vague word. whats to say a person's issue is due to ICS, the radios, or anything else in particular?
The new radios made me gain 20 pounds. There's no information showing that the radios did or didn't cause this. Yet here we are proverbially attributing all these issues to one thing or the other, when in reality WE DO NOT KNOW what is causing these problems.

People here are not stupid. Most do backups before they try something.
I restored a backup and lost capabilities I had.
I reflashed every every sprint RUU, Reflash Hboot 1.40, restored back up and things are not the same.
If you flashed that freeza patch your phone has it's feet in both Sprint and Virgin Mobile and it's not good.
Yes, we know we screwed up. And some of us would like it fixed before we get more surprises of what does not work correctly.

What is the "setprop" an ADB command? Do you have to use it. I edited the build.prop how you said reset the phone and nothing changed. I am roaming and cannot connect to data. My phone's data works fine when in a coverage area, but obviously not when roaming. I never did any kind of firmware update. Hope that helps.

[Q] 4.2.2 WIFI tethering workaround?

I love the CM 10.1 build of 4.2.2. It is my dream phone right now. The problem is that no WIFI tethering works on it as of yet. If anyone has anything working I'd love to be proven wrong. This is a show-stopper for me. I can't use bluetooth because my laptop doesn't have bluetooth.
I tried every tethering app out there. Barnacle was the best in that it reported the errors it was seeing instead of just refusing to work.
Anyway, I am thinking of working around the problem by keeping a ROM stored as a TWRP backup that I can restore when I need tethering. I don't need tethering on a moment's notice.
I would like the tethering ROM as slim as possible. I haven't tried any yet. Would a restore be any faster with a slim ROM?
Can someone suggest what ROM I should use that has a small footprint and can restore quickly? I'm thinking that I won't have any apps and no account logged in. If I'm tethering I will be using the other device for email etc. And I'm sure the phone will work no matter what I'm running.
Can anyone suggest a better workaround than this?
I pretty much tether all day with my jellybam install. It has been a rock solid performer on my note and has kept me from having the itch to try any of the 4.2.1 ROMs.
There is supposed to be a new version released tomorrow, but quite frankly , I don't know whether I'll bother as the current version is exceptionally stable ( with flaps kernel )...
I'm sure with cm 10.1 going nightly, they'll have tethering fixed shortly. Its a pretty important feature for many of us.

I tried jellyblam for quincyatt and I got a boot loop. I went back to recovery and wiped everything again, reinstalled, and I still got a boot loop. Oh well. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sounds like a bad download...Did you download straight to your phone? While I've never had this issue, I have heard that some prefer to download to their computers and transfer the zip to their phones..
You might be right. I did download it to my PC and copy over the zip. However, I had trouble copying and I had to copy a second time. So, I'll try again.
I did a fresh download, copied, wiped, flashed, and it didn't work. Apparently bam won't run on my phone.
...and your using the latest version of twrp?
Yes. I checked. I might be doing something wrong but I doubt it. I'm guessing there is a bug somewhere that rarely shows up. Until the source code is available these custom roms are somewhat a shot in the dark.
I'm just going to go back to my ICS backup when i need tethering. I guess I started this thread with the hope that someone would have a workaround. I really like 4.2.2 and I've decided to live with this. Maybe it will be fixed soon?
Thanks for your help.
The only tethering app that seems to work is "Open Garden." It's in the Play Store but you'll have to side-load it if on AT&T.

How do you keep AT&T from seeing that you're tethering?

I don't know who you are replying to, but I tethered all the time with ATT when using ICS. I didn't know they were trying to block it.
For a while they were changing people's plans to a tethering plan if AT&T caught them tethering. I got a warning email myself.

I know that Verizon has folded tethering into the normal data plans. They make it sound like a benefit but they're raising the overall price so they are really forcing you to buy tethering. I thought ATT and the others were going the same way.
I assume they realized they couldn't enforce it any other way.

I've been to their home page a million times because everyone said you could get the apk there. I was going crazy because all I ever saw was a big orange button to download a version for windows. I had just now typed a reply to you that said you were crazy and then it hit me. You meant to go there on the phone! I'd only been there from my laptop.
Thanks, I'll give it a try now.
-- later --
As I feared, open garden is bluetooth only.
I was researching the hotspot issue that only a few users have been having and found that it is inherent to android 4.1.2 and newer. What I found out:
"Throughout the previous iterations of Android (<4.1.2), Android has not identified for the carriers which data is for tethering, and which is not.
Android 4.1.2 introduced that ability (and requirement) for Android devices to properly flag when data is for tethering purposes. This is the first time this has been used in a vanilla release of Android...
For everyone frustrated by this update to Android: Android respecting a carrier's request to know if data is for a tethered device IS NOT A BUG. IT IS A FEATURE. It's not a feature for users like you and me, it's a feature for manufacturers like Samsung and HTC, so they can in turn build devices that carriers can have more control over.
So, to be clear, THIS IS NOT A BUG. Google INTENDED to respect carrier tethering rules. The only way to circumvent this is to either get a plan from your carrier that allows tethering, revert to a build of Android of 4.1.1 or earlier (I used wugfresh NRT tools, google it, they're amazing and simple: FOR NEXUS DEVICES ONLY, SORRY), or for a developer to find and KILL THE ****ING ABILITY FOR ANDROID TO TAG DATA AS TETHERING DATA and release that to the public; either by providing an modded Android image, or as an app (much less likely to work unless you're rooted)."
Copied from a past on another forum, and apparently I can't post a link to it.
Even though I clicked on Thanks, I'd like to thank you again for that clear explanation. I'm sure it won't take long for that to be hacked.
i think the next nightly may fix it
Next to fix on next Nightly

I sent JamieD a message about it a few days ago. I'm not sure if all developers were aware with source of the problem. Its especially hard when only some users report having an issue. Hopefully they get it working soon.
