How to get Flash working on HDX? - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Anyone know how to view a swf file on the hdx? The flash apk (from xda) that works on the nexus doesn't work on the hdx.
These are not the droids you're looking for.

This is still unknown. Amazon somehow blocked the Adobe Flash Player from working on the stock ROM. Rest assured, it will work on custom ROMs once we obtain root access.

Of course, Amazon says its Adobe's fault. I counter-argued that flash worked fine on the Nexus 7 I just returned to get the HDX, but as typical, the rep just repeated the corp talking points & blamed Adobe as if I hadn't already shot that argument down.

why'd you return the nexus 7?

1] 64gb kindle 2] possibly better screen 3] I'm already an Amazon prime member & use my phone & tablet to read kindle books more than any other use ...4] its new & I was curious, 5] just got the Nexus 26 days b4 & was within their 30 day return window. 6] if I don't like the Kindle, I have 30 days to return & re-buy a Nexus.
The only thing I dislike is Amazon's policy re Google Play & the prob $75 of appps I'm NOT going to re-buy ... so, this'll get rooted & eventually get Google Play working.

Haha.. this is the same reason I got one. I have Amazon prime so man might as well give it a try. This time its a great Tablet and whne rooted and anything else will be awesome.

how to install flash
You will need install the dolphin browser and install flash last working version is 11.1. Then enable flash in settings in dolphin then you will have flash working.

Is it really coming?

I installed flash 11.1 on my 8.9 hdx, which seems to be working.

Yes, Flash most definitely works. You have to use a browser that supports Flash plugins, such as Firefox & you must install the Flash apk, which can be found in archive on Adobe's website or within many XDA forum threads.

Sudden GTA 3 Incompatability?

Why is this game saying it is incompatible with my Galaxy 10.1 and Acer A500 when I can blatantly see reviews for both devices under the marketplace listing!!!
Other people have the game installed, what is going on here?
Hey, when did this happen?? I was just about to buy it when I saw your post! I swear it it was compatible too earlier this today!!! Thanks for the heads up though too!!

This is weird, glad I bought it and downloaded it before this happened works great on tab
works on my tab too..
it works just fine here man.... i'd even go as far as saying that this game runs just as smooth, if not smoother then it did on my ps2!!!!! for real, this is one of the best games i have ever played on my tablet , in the sense of how fluid it plays with absolutly no lag what so ever..... also plays great on my google nexus and htc amaze
Maybe they changed it for some reason. If you still want to install it, you can clear your markets applicationdata, edit your /System/buid.prop and change your device to something like
ro.product.model = Nexus S
ro.product.manufacturer = samsung
or whatever phone is still compatible to download it

that's the weird thing, I did a little investigating and there haven't been any updates according to the Market website, it's still version 1.0
I dont have test this! There is a version for galaxy tab?
So whats going on? How do i download he game?
Found out
Go to the Rockstar website and find the game. Apparently the company didn't test the game for rooted and jailbroken devices. It won't work properly if your device is rooted, which sucks because they waited to add that little bit until myself and a lot of others bought it already and found out the next day that it now comes up as incompatible. They are willing to refund the money. Just follow the instructions they have.

My Tab's rooted too... the key to getting it to work if you have issues (won't start, no sound, etc) seems be to delete the resource files (Android/data/com.rockstar.gta3) and restart the app, forcing it to download it again. Works perfectly after that.
It's working on mine also, stock 3.2 HC rooted. Just installed & downloaded game data
It's back! It's returned to the My Apps list on my Tab and market.android.com also reports it's compatible again!

[Q] Nabi 2 Google Play Store

Hi Ive been trying to root my Nabi 2 tablet to access the Google Play Store. Ive downloaded ADB and followed instructions, Ive also got the correct drivers etc, when i ran the root tool by jmz I chose option 1 and it ran through the process, is there anything else I need to during during this as I then booted up and it was just the same as before?! Im normally an apple fan and experienced in jailbreaking etc but this is my first android as Im trying to exchange all my apple devices for android lol. Can some help me find a step by step full tutorial as Ive been trying to follow the one in this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1905674 but I cant understand what else I need to do?! Thanks in advance
Anybody?! JMZTAYLOR if you see this can you please write a quick tutorial on what I need to do as Im clearly doing something wrong. Its probably just something so simple Im missing?! Any advice would be highly appreciated, sorry if this post is extremely noobish Im normally very adaptable!
Any Luck?
I was just wondering, it's been over a month with no post here. Did you get it working? If so can you post your solution or a link to the thread with the solution you used?
Not sure about the root tool for your device, but any good root tool will install a superuser app, such as Superuser:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su
Not sure if you got your issues sorted yet but if you go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905674 I am sure someone could help you. I just rooted 2 in about 20 minutes over the weekend. Good luck
There's no need to root the nabi for the play store...
http://everythingnabi.blogspot.com/2012/08/googlie-booglie.html
Interesting, except for step 21:
21. Do not update or attempt to install any apps, as it will force close the Google Play Store. The apk file installed is not fully functional on the nabi 2 Tablet. It does however allow for the purchase of Books, Movies and Music. The following pop-up will appear if you attempt to update or purchase an app.
If you root you will have a fully functional Play Story as well as text AND video on Google Talk plus many other features

I want to get Google Play working on my son's Nabi 2 as well, but I'm pretty concerned over the touch calibration issue some people are having on the ROM thread about rooting it. I've only had one android device (my galaxy s2) and thought about rooting it, but couldn't find an overly compelling reason to do so. Now that the Nabi 2 needs it, I would be loathe to brick it/mess it up to get this calibration issue. Even if I try on my s2, this Nabi seems a tad different for some reason.

That is a very rare issue. If you root it and have a problem with the touch screen it only effects recovery software once it's rooted and gapps installed you won't have to go back to recovery.

It is indeed a rare issue, if the script goes fine, you shouldn't have to do anything in recovery yourself anyway. Here is the gapps.zip that fixes the 'android upgrading' on every boot.

It's written for Ubuntu, but the commands are easy to adapt for Windows as well. You install adb and fastboot differently and you remove 'sudo' from the commands.

Nabi 2 works great with Amazon App store (over 50,000 apps). Ex. Unless I installed Minecraft PE, my son would have 2 tablets for Christmas, his with no minecraft and mine with. In daddy mode you can get amazon and the installed apps are manageable in the add/remove to decide which apps to allow your child to see. PS: DO NOT add Amazon store to Nabi mode (unless your child is older, or unless your rich and don't mind your child maxing out a credit card on apps). Personally, I have jailbroken ipads for friends and rooted my last Motorola phone, but I wouldn't risk and consequences of screwing up your child's brand new tablet. You can go from Hero to Zero if you mess up.

Just be prepared to lose a bit more battery life when you install the Amazon app store. I have heard about it taking up a bit more battery due to licence checks, running in the background and such.

For some reason I can't download anything from the play store all of a sudden. It worked fine the other day, but today it gives me an error when ever I try to download a new app or update an installed app.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for the WiFi problem?
Also - stupid question - is it technically feasible to install the Play store without rooting?

[Q] Worth getting a 16GB Nook Tablet?

Hi, I am fairly new with BN and its development, but main reason was to determine if it was worth spending 100 bucks on the 16GB 7inch nook tablet or go with other tablets (ie Nexus 7)?
Thanks
Depends on what you want to do with it.
If you want to use it as intended, as a reader, then sure. It's worth it. It's even worth it to root and install a new ROM. If you're looking for a tablet you don't have to root and you get a more genuine Android experience (Play store et al) out of the box, then I would go with the Nexus 7.
This will be for my kids.
Mainly for netflix and youtube for videos. Root to install playstore, and amazon app store for few kid games.
Just wanted to check with forum about this nook tablet and ability handle without issues.
Thanks again.

I'll second that. 99% of what they will want to play or do can be done on rooted stock. I highly recommend Veronica's debloat rom for maximum compatibility with both appstores and minimum B&N nonsense. :good:

Link in my sig. One of the downloads includes the Play Store.
Keep in mind, you have to have 1.4.2 or lower to be able to use Play Store apps on the stock home screen (via NookColorAppManager, use Google to find it).
What I did for my little girl was buy a crappy kyros for 60 bucks and then sideloaded the apps I wanted her to have on it. This allowed me to not install playstore so she can't "accidentally" rack up a ton of money downloading things in there. Cheap enough that I don't really care if she breaks it in a couple of months and easy to rip the apps I pay for off of my phone that I want her to be able to use and put them on there. Just one view
You can always pin-lock the play store so she can't download anything paid, as well as locking down certain app ratings.
That's what I'm doing with my son's tablet.

Also install Kid's Place! It is free and very good at managing time on the device and apps they are allowed to view including auto starting on device boot so that way you don't have to worry about them getting around the program when you aren't around.

[Q] Lose Amazon abilities with Root/ROM

I have pre-ordered the HDX 8.9 and want to know if I will lose any of the native Amazon capabilities? This would be my first Kindle so I wonder what experiences others have had with rooting. I mostly don't want to lose the capability of downloading Amazon Prime movies/T.V. shows for later playback.
I'm sure I will root it, I love being able to replace ROMs whenever I want and seeing what the Dev's come up with, I think this could turn out to be a great tablet.
Do you think there will be any change of getting Dual Boot on this? That would be awesome!
If you only root, but leave the original OS, all your native apps will work as they do now, of course. But if you decide to install a stock android ROM or Cyanogenmod, etc, then you will lose some things, most of which would be your prime instant videos. Once the ROM is changed, you will only be able to replace those services with what you find in Google Play. I would research all your features/apps in the Play Store for comparable replacements before rooting so you know exactly what you'll lose. (To me its well worth it).

Its too early to say. With no known root method yet. 1st gen kf prime video app broke when rooted. The hd's were fine with root. So too many unknowns now. i am betting amazon will implement forced updates to use their services and apps and also most likely some kinda auto lockout and restore function. Dual boot with amazon boot loader not gonna happen.
im considering one for the kindle text to speech. most my books are on kindle for android but you have to get the kindle hardware to do the text to speech. bummer.

People keep referring to this thread but I have contacted Amazon about 6 times now and all 6 people told me there was absolutely no way that they could or ever would roll back your software. All 6 said once you upgrade to 4.5.1 there was no way what so ever for them to take you back. I even got a couple of emails from there tech support team stating this. So no, customer care will not roll back your software.
I had a very unsucessful back and forth between like 12 different people at Amazon with no success. I even provided a few apps in their store that will absoutely not run in 4.5.x (Quicken 2013 for example) and they had no interest in rolling me back. Though I did not have them explicitly state that a rollback was impossible. They just apologized that their forced software update was causing me grief and to deal with it.
Possible way to root. Was reading info on this vuln CVE-2014-7911 and it seems like it might be a way that KitKat could be rooted. It was patched in Lollipop. Just thought I would share.

I did some reading into this, and it turns out we'll need a bit more than that to get root access (i.e. another exploit).

nevertheless i have to wait until some of the xda guys will hack that too.

but it is crap within fireos there is no possibility to login to spotify with the google account. also on some other apps. thats really *hit.

The software really is the crippling factor, not the hardware. It's just sad that Amazon still can't see that and tries with every effort to lock down those that try to get around it.
whats the chance of upgrade?
Does anyone know what the chance of upgrade of 4.5.1 to stock android rom for fire hdx 7" and possible timeframe?
Is there anyone still working on it and are we just waiting for source code to try and find a way to unlock it.
I just picked up a fire hdx, but it came installed with 4.5.1 and the software is pretty unusable compared to my old jellybean tablet.
As a sidenote would it be worth trying to turn off ota updates so they are not kept ahead of any patch?
Damn this thread. I want my click back. lol

After looking over the source code for the HDX Toolkit, for some reason I think the way it does it might still work on 4.5.1.
