[Q] why xda developers don't support hisense sero 7? - Hisense Sero 7 Pro Questions & Answers

why xda developers hate this tablet?
why they don't talk about this tablet?
why they don't have a dedicated forum?
why there isnt many roms for this tablet?
is it very closed source or what?
please support this tablet
i have just bought it..
i use to have a nexus 4 and there were tons of stuff like multirom and other tweaks for it
i love this tablet
and i hope to have many cool stuff for this but i need the help of all the developers...because im not a hacker-developer,

A lot of it I think stems from the fact that hisense hasn't released the source code for the kernel. It hasn't stopped developers from working on it. I myself am running a custom kit kat ROM I found on xda. There are forums on here for the sero you just have to search for them!

I have done some looking online and it looks like sero might be close to releasing the source code. The sooner that happens hopefully the sooner we can get our own forum

can you give me the name of that kit kat custom rom please?
does that rom works well? i mean does camera works and wifi and everything?
lets tell hisense to release source code.. the hisense rom is almost vanilla..but i suppose
the source code has info related to the hardware doesnt it?

The kernel has a lot to do with the hardware. It is basically responsible for transferring the data from the hardware (touch screen buttons ect) to the software. Like a middle man. And of course each kernel is different from device to device. There have been people trying to get his sense to cough it up, but so far no luck, but it does appear people are making a lot of noise about it so hopefully we will see some progress in that area.
The ROM I am running is a little rough but hey, its kit kat! The audio and sensors are the biggest things that don't work, and some other minor bugs, but the WiFi is excellent, battery life is good, and apps install perfectly. Do a Google search for sero 7 pro kit kat and the first result should be a thread about jellytime 4.3 ( another great jelly bean ROM I highly recommend) links for the kit kat sero 7 ROM are on pg 16 I think

Well.. I have to start out saying how much I love XDA.. I started out modding phones way back with my PPC6700 and I never had a problem and I'm always learning something new here.
Now as for the Hisense brand.. ya there crazy for not trying to get more people involved. Every Walmart carries them, and they're great hardware! now when I got to the Hisense website and look around they have ROM firmware updates... I have no idea what it really means, but they say "Kernel_opensource" so have they opened it up?? I am not a programmer, but...
(edit) Well geze... now I see in fact that they released it... So, can we get our own corner!
Available Firmware
Model: Sero 7 Pro
Firmware Version: kernel_opensource
File Size: 100 Mb
This firmware update will improve the following: Kernel open source. Will improve the operating system interoperability
Download: Sero 7 Pro_kernel_opensource_us.tar.gz

Found it and installed it earlier today... Interesting.. I don't think I will go back to XE-serorom, but I think it needs a little polish I like the fact that I can finally have different users on the tablet. Gosh, I have to get up early to make everyone breakfast, but I can tell I will be laying in bed checking out all the new options under settings.

[Q] Bauhn (ALDI) 9.7" Tablet root (AMID-971R)

One of my mates picked one of these Aldi tablets up recently, is there anyway to root it (I've tried SuperOneClick)? It's running ICS 4.0.3
It has some truly bizaar bugs in it that I'm keen to try and fix, such as Facebook not being a downloadable app because "it isn't supported on this device"

great news mate - it hasn't been the most reliable of tablets!
f anyone is making a rom for this device, I'll be happy to assist, but i don't have any programing skills.
There are too many bugs on this system with Ice scream sandwich and hoping a rom would clean them out and improve the wireless signal pickup
AMiD-972XS superceeds AMiD-971R

The AMID-971R has been replaced by the twin core AMID-972XS. There are a few software tweaks in addition to the hardware upgrade. The wireless signal pickup appears to have been resolved. The new device has so far exhibited excellent wireless coverage so far. A few bugs still to be ironed out (as with any device I suppose), but the biggest "Bug", its unreliability, appears to have been nailed.

I haven't used his root method yet, the other one works for me though. It rooted both our 971r and 972xs tabs. Updating the OS afterwards damages the root so you should update first. Root works fine done afterwards.
Should I just post a link here to the Bauhn tablet forum? Seems the Bauhn tablet is not considered a device of interest on here .
Over there, I have posted about the updating and also recovery. A custom ROM would be very easy to install. I'm not a programmer so don't know how to do a custom ROM.
Yes, maybe a link would stir up interest?
ok, I'd like to revive this thread and I've got two of these babies and now that I've got a taste for v4.1.2 I would LOVE for these tablets to get a custom rom to go in that direction.
some info I've found searching around for similar models:
Smartpad 962i
I've searched around but it seems to reside in italian forums. As for the current australia official ROM support, well their update link is dead so I'm assuming they want to drop the product in favor of the new 3g quad core tabs available at aldi.
anyhow, hope someone could shed some light on these models so all the owners can keep track of it in this thread.

Use KingoRoot

Best/most supported smartphone.

Hi, I have a HTC One S. I can't complain about the phone but there aren't a lot official ROMs for this cellphone. On the new website of aokp isn't any ROM for the one s anymore, cyanogenmod has only cm10 stable and some 10.1 nightly and there is screen tearing, too. Or for example Ubuntu touch isn't avaible. Or a super nexus ROM. Or miui 5.
So my question is what is a good supported but also powerful smartphone?
Only Nexus devices get the most development support. Get a Nexus 4...
Sell it and equip yourselves with a nexus you won't start a thread like this again - for nexus something new pops up everyday
OK and any other devices? Maybe for people who are reading this thread and dont like nexus?

The Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note II all have great developer support, the US market versions of these phones have even better developer support but the International versions are great too. The Xperia Z is another phone with great developer support as well. All of these devices have official Cyanogenmod support, and AOKP support (Except for the Galaxy S4 which at this moment doesn't have official AOKP) support.

Its not simple but these days there are tutorials on compiling/debugging that makes life easier for newbies wanting to take first steps into aosp development
Bro making a rom is hard for us but not impossible.
You just need to learn how to port rom's from another device and how to modify your stock kernel to work properly in your custom rom.
Don't forget that the nexus/cm rom makers are also a human like us.
Try to search in Google.com

Can You Dev for the Samsung Dart. Just go to Github and type it in, source under DashBlack. There are also some CM7 roms for it so you can port, located at MadTeam forums. Development has really slowed down and it would help if you could port just one rom for it. Just Google CM7 Samsung Dart. If you could build ICS or Jellybean for it that would be AWESOME!! Ubuntu Touch has never used android as a base, you may be talking about this:
In the original porting guide, we had Android as the main OS, having Ubuntu separated in a container. We had that as our first solution as it's easier to just boot Android and bootstrap Ubuntu once Android is up and running (which was a base requirement for Touch). This architecture was traditionally called 'unflipped', and it's part of the raring and first saucy images we produced.
As we continued developing the platform, more issues we found with such architecture, making it harder to improve the quality for the Ubuntu side (ueventd x udev, full control of the services, upgradability of the compat layer, etc). So to be able to further improve the Touch images, we decided to flip the systems, making Ubuntu as the main host, and separating Android in a container, getting us to what we call 'flipped' images.

anything new on nexus 5?
XDA Developers has a news section. There was a post here. It states:
Not much is needed to get started. You need to be running Android 4.2 or higher on an AOSP-derived ROM, 2.7 GB of free space, ADB on your desktop and your phone’s bootloader must be unlocked. Currently, this has only been tested by Canonical on the Google Nexus 4, but they state that other Nexus devices should work as well.

The Nexus line is the only true device they are supporting at this moment. You can find a list here with the devices that are/not on the official Ubuntu site.
I doubt we're going to be seeing another Ubuntu Edge coming out. That failed unfortunately but ti was a good project.

It is a business partner, so I'd assume that business partner is making the devices. Ubuntu Edge was supposed to be the team's first device with Ubuntu, but that KicKStarter project failed. But thanks for giving me that information. I personally haven' been following the foot steps of the development of Ubuntu Touch OS in awhile.
I'm thinking this may be the issue:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/DualB...phone_calls_to_work_in_Ubuntu_and_Android_4.4
The radio image shipped with Android 4.4 is reused on the Ubuntu side to make phone calls or use WiFi or sound, and it is not yet supported in Ubuntu.

If the radio currently isn't supported, we would kind of be SOL even with it booted up. They mention a fix, but that requires using a 4.3 radio, something not available to us.

I think I'll just drop that there.
I think that sums it up.
EDIT (13/01/2013 - 16:33):
According to OMGUbuntu! (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2014/01/ubuntu-touch-wont-support-nexus-5-will-drop-support-nexus-7-10) there will be NO official support for the Nexus 5. Though considering how awesome XDA is, I doubt that will put the determined off. Here's to an unofficial Nexus 5 ROM with convergence included!

Oh man OTG would actually be perfect. ...and yah no problem I've ran a forum on the evo 3D and the LG g2 before and I cant wait to play around with the tab4.....learning is the best
You are right leaning is the best.
I would love some help wrapping my head around the ROM development process. Especially, if it helps our devices.
Is anyone capable and competent enough to help with development? I am willing to learn and pick things up fairly quickly if we start a project.
OTG is not supported by hardware, so I won't count on that feature. Blame Marvell
I'd love to see ANY custom ROM for SM-T230NU though... I got mine rooted, debloated and I have TWRP installed which flashes ZIPs, but I'm eagerly waiting for AOSP ROMs for this tab. It's gonna take some time because I heard there's no AOSP reference for PXA1088 board, which Tab 4 7.0" uses.
I think there are no other devices that use that particular Marvell SoC. That'a what makes it so hard to make a custom ROM.
Tab 3 7.0 had the previous gen Marvell Dual Core CPU and they waited almost a year to have CM11 at least booting up.
Crap

Just got a Tab 4 7.0 for my 3yr old son, and I hate TW on it. It's so so slow. Some CM or GPE roms would definitely bring this thing to life.
I'm going to need some help to compile cm for this device. I want to port candy kat to this device like other developers did on the samsung galaxy tab 3 7.0

Hey guys I have an idea. What if I use safariking's stock rom and replace everything on that rom with stock android 4.4 and get rid of the touchwiz. I can probably replace the system ui with a stock system ui. Would that be possible or not.

No that will not work if you replace all the samsung apps with aosp apps that will give some fc conflicts etc... it is still a samsung based rom touchwiz is touchwiz nothing you can do about it an i would highly recommend not to change teh systemui you will get fc!
Ok sorry thought it would work.

Yes you need permission to share the download link for a ROM you didn't make, the proper course of action would have been to link to the thread of the ROM
Check out my ROMs:
best ROM for themes:
Lollipop ROM
best ROM for performance:
Google inc ROM
Note: No support for SIM cards
