[Q] Can I update? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey , I just bought(not from store a sch-i545).Im from east europe(Romania) but my sim is working fine even if i get the message non-verizon sim in notification menu.
Is there any risk to update? risks like:cannot use anymore my cosmote sim card.
And how can I find out if the phone is unlocked by factory or the person who sold me the phone unlocked him:-??

What is the baseband in More->About phone?

Yes, you can update, and it'll still accept the non-Verizon SIM. I've seen no indication that Verizon wants to sim-lock these phones.

[Q] How can I tell if it is De-Branded or Factory Unlocked set? Urgent Plzz

I am buying a New SGS 2, the seller has told me that its factory Unlocked, but I have my doubts that he has De-branded the phone and selling with the name of Factory Unlocked.
Can someone tell me, how would I know if the Seller has Sold me a Debranded phone or a factory Unlocked one?

Debrand means no branding on the phone splash scrre apps etc .
Factory unlocked presume its not sim locked to a network will work with any sim card .

Branded means branded be it sim locked or not >>> my phone branded and not sim locked from new .
just like a CPW phone may be branded but not sim locked .
factory unlocked =phone as is Yes and no sim lock thats easy to test by OP trying different sims .

I think the OP means that he suspects that the seller has bought a branded phone, eg from o2 then used a guide to unlock and debrand.
If this is so, I dont personally know how to check this myself, but I presume you can tell by the imei or by how many stickers are on the box (how many imei stickers, o2 normally have 2)
Also ask for proof of purchase?

lol.. you are the only one who got my question right.. He cant provide me proof of purchase since he is a Re-Seller himself and would consider that as his market secret.
There must be some way De-branded can be differentiated from Factory unlocked ones..

AFAIK, only by IMEI, and then only if you actually have a valid IMEI database, which is about as likely as this guy selling you an actual unbranded phone (by the sound of it).

If I understand it correctly debranding requires the use of Odin to flash an unbranded ROM, so all you'd have to do is check the number of flashes in download mode... I think?

Download the motorola update tool from the Atrix website
You could also check the Motorola noobs guide; it covers how to unlock and root the phone, which will you be needing
I suggest installing a custom rooms which will work better than the stock version

This phone must have been imported from countries like US or UK, just try find that there is any sign of operator name like At&t, t-Mobile or Orange etc., in the phone box, you can find it. If you find that only you can update your phone.

Sim card? if you're referring to your network you'll still be able to use it after any of these updates.it wont lock the network.it will only lock the bootloader.
If you want to do it through the SD card method remember that you'll first have to update your phone to a newer version of froyo and then update once more to gingerbread. the automated version will save you the hassle.
And btw your warranty is a sellers warranty not manufacturers warranty.so i suggest you unlock the bootloader and install a custom rom, as it wont affect your warranty status.

I think there is some confusion and i am to be blamed...i have an AT&T phone, not sure if the bootloader is locked or not...I am in India and am using a GSM SIM card here. Now the phone is Froyo...i want a Gingerbread upgrade. I have discovered two ways, through Wifi and through the SD card...
I currently don't have Wifi...so am planning to go ahead with the SD card method.
+ my fear, if i update it through the wifi, my Network may get blocked again. Here was my actual conusion...but I think i will wait for a while...I am using a Froyo 2.2.2 currently...what is the next version until i get on board the Gingerbread??
Thanx again...

[Solved][Q] S4 service menu/service mode - what ROM has this compiled in?

Hi guys, I have an old S4 that I would like to SIM unlock. The phone is not on my contract so I cannot call up verizon and ask them for the SIM unlock code. I have been doing some reading and if I can get into the service mode or service menu there appears to be a setting to do this.
My ultimate goal is to use this abroad later this year with prepaid SIM cards in different countries.
From my reading, the service codes were blocked by Samsung/Verizon at some point. My questions is what version of Android and what modem allowed service menu access? I have tried KK and L with the MK2 and MDK modems but no go.
*Edit*
I should mention that I have tried the hidden menu enable MOD:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303905
But, again I think this is dependent on the ROM/Modem version, no?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Looks like the SIM lock state survives a modem flash - I tried flashing NK1 and then back to MDK and it persisted. I did this because now I'm having an issue where my unlocked phone only gets data and cannot make phone calls. Says voice is out of service but data is in service. But SIM in another phone works just fine.
Tried a few things but no go. I'm about to leave the country today so I guess I'll find out when I get abroad and try a GSM SIM, unless anyone has any comments on this.
Thanks, Matt.

Will flashing the unlocked firmware still work on carrier models of the s9+?

Anyone know or have insight?
Won't know until the phone is in the hands of the tinkerers. It has been that way, FWIW, since the GS7/GS7E.

I am happy to report that after flashing the Sprint firmware on my unlocked S9+ it worked with no issues and knox was not tripped. I've noticed that even though the Sprint splashscreen didn't show up at boot, while in setup the phone did detect the exact carrier I was on (Boost Mobile) and the phone showed the Boost Mobile splashscreen upon reboot and all the Boost Mobile apps as well as some bloatware loaded onto the phone as if it were a phone I purchased through them. But one issue I still notice since when I first bought the phone is the fact that the data speeds are slow in my area, but when I had an LG Stylo 3 from Boost in the area now where I see the slow data speeds, the LG didn't have that issue. I thought flashing carrier firmware would fix that problem. When I am in other parts in NYC out from where I live, ex: Manhattan, Brooklyn; I don't see no slow speeds I get true, fast 4G LTE. I guess it's a software issue Samsung can fix in the next update?
Anyone have link for modified Odin just in case I decide to flash iunlocked S9+ firmware back on my phone?

Not sure about now, but few years back I changed the CSC of my device to make it detect the SIM card. It wasn't from the USA though.
The option you're referring to is now housed in Preconfig.
MPS CODE.
Enable it....to prevent your CSC from changing over when you put in any sim card. Disable it and it will always change.
