[ROM][4.3.1][Carbon][Unofficial][11/4/13] - HTC Droid DNA

It's popular, so I thought I'd try bringing Carbon back to the DNA- all credit goes to Team Carbon and everybody who helped bring AOSP to the DNA, including but not limited to- chad0989, flyhalf205, crpalmer, invisiblek, pio_masaki...
DISCLAIMER: Flash this ROM at your own risk- I am not responsible for voided warranties, bricked hardware, explosions, bugs, frustration, etc.
See 2nd post for information on diagnosing and reporting bugs. It includes a link to my detailed guide, including radio/reception info
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project.
We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy. Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub.
We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.
Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here.

Flashing Instructions:
-Download ROM and gapps
-Reboot into recovery- wipe cache, dalvik, data, and system
-Flash ROM, gapps and reboot
---I don't recommend dirty flashing, but if you do please do not report any bugs until you do a clean flash. For thorough details, see the link in my signature or in Reporting a Bug below.
Download:
CDMA: AFH
GSM: Just flash the GSM Patch over the CDMA build.*
Gapps: Official or Slim for dark UI support. Carbon states most gapps should work though.
Crpalmer's kernel version 4.7.4 should work fine, but please don't report bugs unless you're on the included kernel (you can just dirty flash the ROM to restore the stock kernel). I recommend the OndemandCRP governor and ROW I/O scheduler.
Old Builds:
CDMA ONLY 10/28: AFH
GSM ONLY 10/28: AFH
Source:
Carbon
Device tree
Vendor files
Kernel
*Flyhalf205's GSM Patch was modified to reflect recent changes and set Network Mode to GSM/WCDMA Preferred.

Known Bugs:
-All CM 10.2 bugs: please search the CM thread before posting.
-Carbon Fibers occasionally FCs on boot
-Two seemingly identical phone apps to choose from when using a dialer link
-Turning off quick settings causes repeated System UI FC
-You tell me
So far everything has been minor and hasn't noticeably affected the performance, stability or features of the ROM. Don't expect this to move past what I'd consider "beta" because I don't have the know how to really fix any of these, so it's up to Team Carbon's changes since I know at least some of these aren't specific to us anyway. If there's any major problems, I'll try to make an attempt to work with Team Carbon or another more knowledgeable dev to sort things out.
Reporting a Bug:
Generally, only report a ROM bug if it can be replicated after a clean flash without any 3rd party kernels or apps. See this guide for more details. If it's apparent you didn't follow at least some of these instructions or use search, I will probably only laugh and make fun of you- guides and search boxes exist for a reason.

I know you're going to say something about it so I'll just get it out of the way- No the hand waving isn't enabled for active display and no I don't know how to include it, lol.

ha ha ..actually there is no option for that ..that's what active display is supposed to do.I will try and download the rom once am home and test it. If it works i'll post and if it doesn't i shall remain quiet

Maybe we're both wrong? Looks like I spoke too soon because I just turned on pocket mode and it catches the hand wave no problem (other ROMs I've tried, pocket mode was extremely hard for me to trigger by any means). Either that or Carbon just tweaked it to their liking.
Edit: @munchy_cool From our avatars, you'd think we were in a Mustang forum... haha

I hate to sound like a moron... and I'm going to but, do any of the CM based roms (non-sense roms) utilize the headphone amp / beats audio?
I have been using Newts GPE rom for a few months now so I don't know if this had been implemented and I did look around for a while but honestly it would be easier if one person saw my post and replied to me lol
The headphone amp is a big deciding feature for me with roms, and I love CM alot too :/
Thank you

Beats is strictly a Sense thing- DSP Manager would be the AOSP equivalent. As far as I know the headphone amp is working and speaker amp is partially working, but both are 99% up to par with Sense IMO.

Aww man, sorry. You'd know more about fixing that than I would, so do you think it might just be this line in the makefile? $(call inherit-product, vendor/carbon/config/common_cdma.mk)
I don't know if it'd like me including the GSM one in addition to CDMA, but I can try doing just a GSM one for you.

You'll want to call the gsm version and block the CDMA version. You'll also want to use the gsm M7 build.prop stuff concerning the radio, I kept two sets of those, one for CDMA and one for gsm and named each system.prop as I needed that version, then blocked the gsm or CDMA line for which ever build I wasn't doing. Messy but it worked for me.
That aside, don't worry about it as far as being for me, my DNA is sold tomorrow I think , just wanted one last hoorah with it and Carbon

Well, I'd like to be able to include GSM users too, and with you as one of the more actively knowledgeable people, I'll take any tips while I can still get them. Even better if I can help you with that last hoorah. Tried my best to make those changes (the GSM m7 system.prop is like 5 lines versus 50 on the dlx- I was a little confused, lol), and provided I didn't create any errors, I should hopefully have a GSM build up in an hour.

@pio_masaki and any other GSM users can give this a shot if you want and let me know how it goes- http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23196940996969845
Edit: Also posted a new CDMA build since yesterday's DNA and Carbon changes seems to have stopped the Carbon Fibers FC and restored accurate signal text- http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23196940996969853

Flashed and played with this Rom it's bad ass can't wait for the amp to be fixed my phone always sounds like there is a blown speaker. There are no real issues though thanks for bringing carbon back to life brother!!!

Yeah, the loudness is back, but I usually have to tweak DSP Manager to get it sounding right, although it varies from build to build.

Welp, flashed it last night around 1:30am, so far so good!!
Everything seems 100% perf! (VZW) Amp is working loud and actually louder/clearer than on sense
I flashed crpalmers 4.7.4 kernel though and i get system ui crashes every 5 seconds or so xD so I guess I will flash the original boot img

I've know for certain myself and at least have been running crpalmer 4.7.4 without problems, so I'm not sure what to say. Did you wipe dalvik/cache after flashing the kernel?

Yes I did actually it's very odd, I flashed the original boot img and wiped cache/dalvik and rebooted and still said system ui crashes, then wiped caches again, flashed rom over again to refresh, sys ui still crashing, then wiped caches and system, and reflashed rom, still sys ui crashes xD
so I wiped everything, caches, data and system, and flashed rom again and now its fine... so its something in the data partition :/

Alright ladies and gentlemen, I am glad to finally bring you the Evervolv series of ROM's. This is an alpha build, however most, if not all items should be working. I'm going to keep this post vague and update it when the rom becomes beta worthy.
This rom would not be possible without the CM team, so i give them props any time i can.

Everything should be working as of now (with the small except to the Brightness widget, it's functionality is there... but the UI updating is not just yet). The Nexus One i have has no sim card, so i can't test everything. However English is the main supported language, if google hasn't added the language support, i haven't either. This means certain apps will have no support at all (i.e. Evervolv Settings). If there is someone that would like to contribue the efforts to languages, we'd be more than happy to have you aboard.

Q&A
Is this CM7?
No, this is a build that started from AOSP. However, some of the fixes and few features have been derived from the CyanogenMod Team, including the CM kernel.
How social is the evervolv team?
You can join us on IRC, irc.freenode.net #evervolv. Or follow myself and the status of Evervolv @preludedrew on twitter.

Why not. I haven't tried anything Gingerbread yet (been faithful to Rod's MIUI the last few months).
I'll download and check it out!

agree with this... this rom already support app2sd??
Liking so far. Its a breath of fresh air. Just something nice and new, really smooth and responsive.
It appears a2sd is not there? Maybe I'm wrong but under settings it said ext (unavailable).
Also, its a little eh that I can't change the dock settings (I know I can use LauncherPro and I probably will but I was trying to avoid that) because I use Chomp and DolphinHD so those dock shortcuts are useless.
Screen off animation is SWEET and boot animation is stellar.
Overall, seems very solid for a first release. I'll stick with it for now, assuming camera and camcorder work (I'm headed out to Sea World with the wife and son today/tomorrow so I need a functioning camera).
Great job and great release. I'll report back more Monday night when I get home and have used it for a few days.
Does this rom have the "wonk" problem? With nightly Rom I still have lots of problems

Great rom. I love the font and bootanimation. Wish the rom had a2sd.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
OK, so after a few days use I'm noticing a few things.
Battery life seems to be average, nothing special. I hardly used it at all as I was on a small vacation (didn't make any phone calls, hardly text at all, didn't take pictures, surfed the web very very lightly) and my battery would very quickly drop to the 80's in % and beyond. Although, this could possibly be associated to my next thing.
When charging, light on top is green (fully charged) when it hits 90% battery. It does continue charging to 100% but I found that very odd that it turns green to indicate full when its at 90%...
As stated, the font is very nice too. Everything overall seems smooth, especially for a first release. I'd be nice to see new releases soon, of course with a change log etc.
Looking forward to see what is to come.

lol you guys...how many stock based touchwiz roms do we need? you guys realize all these roms are completely stock that have been themed and modded. with a little intuition, those mods can be done yourself. take a stock odin image, place it in dsixdas kitchen, add your mods, package it up, and you now have the same thing posted in 90% of the sgs3 forum.
What is dsixdas???

Team Synergy put out some sick tweaks for my old HTC devices (sprint). Haven't used them in over a year but would love to see some more action over here whether its "stock" based tweaks or not. They may even dabble in some AOSP. Not sure.

As droidstyle said, customized stock roms are basically, well - stock based roms with build.prop/init.d tweaks. I like to go back to stock deodexed Verizon rom and debloat/tweak the rom myself because that's where I find the most fun. Custom Touchwiz roms seem to take that fun away from me
Also, search the internet, there's plenty of info on lists of build.prop and init.d tweaks that boost performance and save battery on your phone.

Most of which are snake oil, like a lot of performance tweaks devs claim to put in.
I say we open up a donation thread so we can get Team Synergy on board!! Their roms are sooo bad ass!! LOL Just kidding guys! :silly:

As many as possible, it's called variety. I'm busy and I don't want to do the mods myself.... I like donating to devs to do it for me...that's why most of us are here.
Also one of the great things about Synergy for the GS3 was the nightly builds. Again, I didn't have to do the work myself, received nightly updates/tweaks and simply donated to compensate for their time and work.
Personally, I figure the more devs working on the Verizon Note 2 the better regardless of what they use as a base for their ROM.
You can only do so much with a zip rom. Nightly builds are pretty ridiculous for zip roms. If nightly builds actually did something notable, the rom would be completely rewritten from scratch within a month.
It simply doesn't happen and is misleading.
Here is what I have seen from nightly builds of zip roms:
1. Nothing changes from one build to the next.
2. Things are broken, then fixed, broken, then fixed. However, nothing is actually accomplished.
3. Why are we calling them builds? They aren't building crap except maybe an apk or two.

I totally agree with you. I had the GS3 and ran pretty much every ROM available for it while I had it. Nothing against Team Synergy, but their ROM always had some type of issue or another. Which I thought was insane for a stock based ROM.
And then the nightlies started happening and like you said, things would break and then be fixed, etc. I finally just gave up and started running CleanROM and Beans. Both were more stable and to be honest, performed better.
I never got the lovefest for the Synergy ROM on the GS3, but that's just me.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I also don't have the time to do this myself either. I work 50 odd hours a week and have two kiddos. I also have no idea what I am doing. I would love to learn more about all of this. If someone can put up a link for a good starting point to learn that would be awesome.

Nobody forces you to download nightlies. I do agree that at some point the nightlies can start doing more harm than good but it's up to the end user to know when it's time to get off the train. I've only ever had good experiences with devs who produce nightlies. If I felt like I was getting a service from nightlies, I donated, if not, I didn't. Simple as that.
Whether you feel forced to download them or not is irrelevant. They are quite pointless.
So if these arguments hold up, there should only be two or three roms per device. Touchwiz (or whatever ui is used by the manufacturer), AOSP or AOKP. Everything else is just tweaks and build prop edits. Not understanding the arguments here. Especially from other devs.

I haven't looked to see what other devs are saying, but the only thing I said was that nightlies for a zip rom are 100% pointless.

[Rom][Jellybean 4.1.2]Unofficial B.A.K.E.D. Black Bean 6 beta 2

TNN Presents The Unofficial BAKED Black Bean 6
Hello guys I have come back to XDA and have brought a new toy with me. Welcome to the BAKED Series For the Evo 3d. This has some cm and aokp elements along with everything being blacked out. I have also made up a zip file with all the black goodies you need to get along (gapps along with a few extra apps) and a second zip that has transparent market, gmail, google+, and dropbox for those who like to see through the darkness.
As of right now this is just baked 6 (aosp 4.1.2) but I know how yall crave the latest and greatest so I am also planning on doing a 4.2.2 port. I started with this one for my own personal use and I am not a big fan of the panels in 4.2.2. I have also added in a few little things that are not part of the original rom. The evervolv widgets are included!!
The following is from the original thread and death-by-soaps thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096883

"Welcome to a #teamBAKED production. Where our goal is to get you all BAKED. Black Android Kang Everyone Desires that is.
What did you really think we could include that in the rom! LOL
Our real goal tho is plain and simple make a stellar black fully inverted rom. Throw in the kitchen sink maintain stability (hopefully) and have fun doing it. Mostly the have fun part tho."-quote from Team BAKED
Fully built from the ground up from AOSP 4.1.2 (then cherry picked from everyone!!!
Includes Rom Control (kang from aokp but made into baked style)
Includes Aokp Toggles (aokp)
Includes Powerwidgets (cm)
Lockscreen shortcuts 5 phone 8 tablet (cm)
Lockscreen weather (cm)
Lockscreen calendar (cm)
Full customized Mms app (baked)
Includes DSPManager (cm)
All system apps and Gapps fully inverted for your pleasure (baked)
Many many more features in and even more stuff planned to come.
All credit first and foremost goes to Google for making android and making it open source.
Chainfire
CyanogenMod obviously for giving onto the hacking community everything they have given.
AOKP for there amazing work on aosp.
Big thanks to faux for his kernels are our kernls of choice.

Thx for the rom! I will try it when 4G is working. EDIT:"oh ya and Superuser, it's a must" The 3G in my area is really bad as of late and 4G, when it works is ok. Sprint has been getting worse and worse with data quality!

Well superuser will be working tomorrow but as far as 4G goes I have no plans to even try and get it going. I am on cricket and they use LTE so I have no way or need to make it work. Sorry if that is something you need you will be out of luck with this rom.
Thread cleaned, flame stops now.
Any issues you report or you PM me.
This is a dev thread, we stay on topic.
Let there be no equivocation about this.

Hey mods thanks for cleaning that up. For everyone else hope you enjoy what is out so far and tomorrow there will be more to look forward to. Now lets try and keep the thread on topic and leave any personal comments to yourself. This is here for people to enjoy and not to complain about things that have nothing to do with any issue that the rom might have. I also have a couple more things to put out for yall to enjoy in the next few day. Keep an eye out for new things coming your way.
Are you planning a cricket "branded" release with working mms for us cricket guys and gals? Not asking you to, just asking if you thought about it
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
There is a possibility of that after everything else is ironed out. I still have not figured out how to make the ROM add the phone number to the username for MMS though. That means y'all would still have to edit that part manually. Also I don't have or use any of the cricket software so if you want that included then I would have to dig it up and have it as an add on zip.

Oh, now I understand why you were gloating about the One S getting JB 4.1/Sense 4+.
I didn't make the connection with the "HTC VLE_U" in your sig.

Well....I hope this is taken as constructive criticism and not me bashing the OP or anything other then constructive criticism.
1. jlmancuso, I believe you should edit your OP to state that this is not built from source.
This, in my opinion is deceiving to users. I know some of it is just a copy/paste (the context on the OP) from the original developers of BAKED but I think users deserve to know what's what
2. The superuser issue. I know yesterday, I tried to push my will on you and I still stand by what I said some what and because I believe that a ROM shouldn't be put out without something as vital as that BUT is over now.
Here's what you need to do in order to fix it. Assuming you have SuperSU and not koush's superuser then you need to place the SuperSU.apk inside your system/app then place the su binary inside system/bin
After that, your SU should be working as it should.
3. You said yesterday that you really don't care about adding 4G because you're on Cricket. In my opinion, that's a bad attitude to have! I mean, I'm on Boost Mobile so if ANYONE should have that attitude, it should be! I don't get 4G or LTE or any of that!
HELL, I barely get 3G hahaha which is why I'm on WiFi the majority of the time!
BUT what I'm trying to get at is that you should build this ROM from source! If you do, you're able to add things like Wimax. You're not having to worry about whether superuser is working or not, that's automatic with 99.99999999999 percent of the ROMs you build from source....as long as you're using a good device tree.
Take it from someone that's ported their share of ROMs, source is the way to go! The possibilities are endless and you can fix alot of things quicker then if you're doing the port thing!
The port thing which I know well, is a PITA! You're smashing files together, editing XML files and trying to figure out smali as best as you can and praying like HELL that everything works out........when in source, is pretty much laid out for you in plain english!!
Anyways, if you need some help with building from source or just help in general with your ROM...hit me up on PM!!
Here's a helpful guide on how to get started if you plan on building from source...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762641
That guide is basic and is not specific to this ROM but it will at the very least help you setup your build environment!
Again, hopefully this is taken as constructive criticism and not me having a chip on my shoulder or anything other then just constructive criticism.
Later!
Thanks for the pointers Mazda and I always welcome constructive criticism. What I do like is when someone is disrespectful and rude instead of just making a normal comment but that is another subject for else where. I just wanted it out here that I apologize for my comments and welcome any help. I have limited experience with android and linux but am learn as I go just like most. Yes I have been researching building from source and getting ready to try my own builds soon.
Now back to the rom at hand. I have a few more conformations on both working and non working issues.
BT - works
texts - works
gps - wont lock
phone.apk keeps crashing
I am working on these and hope to have most of this lined out today or tomorrow.
Peace,
Happiness,
Love, and
Harmony
Jlmancuso
Alright I am going to try and do this from source as advised and see how this comes out. Keep your eye out for further updates.
OP has been updated for release of Beta-2. I should be done testing and have it uploaded some time today. I have fixed just about all the issues. Superuser works along with the phone. Everyone made such a big deal out of superuser not working they did not even notice that the phone did not work. Lol. Well a few hours of sleep then back to finish this up.
Was trying to download your turtle rom from goo, but it was ridiculously slow. Is there a mirror for that?

Here's a bit of info you may want on this project for how we do things differently:
CLICK HERE to find out more about the new team working on this project since our TeamEOS merger.
No features you don't need which slow the device down, or put your data at risk of being stolen. If you want to give it away, it should be your decision.
A fast and clean install with no UX decisions made for you. You make the ROM whatever you would like.
A team constantly exploring totally new feature sets and optimizations geared toward you, the user
We utilize a plethora of optimizations in a build system unlike any other:
Each build has a toolchain built for your device at the time of build. No more generic toolchain android builds.
Consistently updated upstream toolchain module source with our custom backports, fixes, and optimizations applied in a patch at build time.
Fully built utilizing Link Time Optimization (another custom ROM first). Feel free to google this one a bit to get an idea of the performance gain.
Many repositories have code fixes, cleanups, and many minor optimizations which are too generous to even speak of here.
Optimizations are toggled on and off based on device for the best experience we can acheive for your device without sacrificing any stability
Many Qcom optimizations and AOSP master (upstream) optimizations and fixes using device specifications to determine usage.
Fully built utilizing strict aliasing and isognu++11 mode.
Full "-O3" build. To those who don't know, this is the highest "optimization level" available in gcc that sets many other flags

Ohai guys! Just FYI, I have the T-Mobile variant and this project is my daily driver. I think you will come to find this build is sick fast and it's benchmarks will blow any other AOSP build clear out the water. Personally, I've never experienced speed like this. There's a lot of great stuff in the pipeline so stay tuned and stay updated.
If you come across any bugs, please let me know. Since the last couple builds, I can't find any. But if any issues, concerns, or requests pop up, post up.
Great to see you hear. I still remember you from the Evo 3D days

Oh snaps, sup LiquidSolstice! Our project is based on AOSP Master branch, not release. There's been upside and downside to this stategy. We had to hunt down some bugs here and there, but afaik they all got squashed as of the last couple builds.

Fascinating. I didn't realize there were multiple branches. I guess that does put you more on the cutting edge level than most other ROMs here?

Honestly, I'm not sure. That's why we build them all. I know the tmo variant has different proprietary radio libs, likely for additional spectrum support. But I'd bet the UL and att builds are pretty much the same, except for device fingerprint.
Synergy, me, and a couple of other guys make up the core team. I'm having a blast with m7 man! I got some sick ideas in store to fully harness the power of this beast.

Nice to see another rom thanks for the work !
As soon as our IT guy get the backend right, I'll write an updater for easy updates. Couple things I think would be nice. Native xvid support and native dts audio. I have mx player pro with a custom libffmpeg that does all that but native is always good. Thoughts?

Support
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

Awesome! Thanks for building Carbon, you continue to do some great stuff here for the 4.0.
EDIT: I ran across three force closes, 2 of which are the same as CM11.
Like CM11, messaging force closes, so I deleted mms.apk and now it's all good. Also the same as CM11, settings/storage force closes on initial boot but after a reboot it's fixed.
One other force close I got was acore process has stopped. I've seen that one before on other roms/devices, it's fixed by clearing cache/data of contacts storage in apps.
Just finished setting up and restoring my apps with Titanium and overall this is running really well, smooth and feels pretty quick. Really nice work on this, thanks again.
Btw, camera front and back work fine, just as in CM.

Awesome, I'll have to try it out when I get some time

All right man. I installed it and it runs great. The only issue I ran into was that the setting forced closed, but I opened it back up and it ran fine. This has almost all the customization of PAC-rom, but runs much better. Now I have to find a way to mod the browser, because in Kitkat Google decided to remove some critical API's for flash. When you click on an video (for instance .mp4) the browser doesn't do the pop up that lets you select a video lol.

I decided to take a plunge and upgrade from CM 10.02 (or something like that) and i can't believe how freakin amazing and professional this process and ROM's have become. Normally my upgrades and installs are plagued with teething issues (I literally have had to brute force a ROM once or twice) and painful bugs which have no easy workaround. This on the other hand was mindblowing.... I followed your CM 11 install instructions and it worked like the butter this system is made with no problems, easy and just superb.
As of yet i haven't found any bugs, the interface is smooth and honestly this has progressed so far since the times that it seemed we would never have a working camera/ anything.... I definitely suggest this to anyone that got a bit bored with CM (me, I could have upgraded to CM11 but this was something different).
Thankyou SO MUCH Zaclimon for another awesome ROM and I promise if i run into any unreported bugs I'll alert you happily! Thanks again!!!
