[Q] Flashing modded rom on stock slot - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hi, I have razr maxx with ics android and safestrap with cm10.1. I read some topics and get to know that:
a) jb doesn't use webtop partition
b) cm on safestrap could work a little bit slower than on stock slot
So my question is, what should I do to get max possible speed, and max possible avalible space. It would be great if someone with big knowleadge could write a tutorial how to do it.
In fact I have no idea but I want to know:
a) is easy to unbrick phone if something goes wrong
b) is something other than cid what should i backup
c) is any reason to have stock ics or should i flash to jb
d) can i back to ics from jb
e) is it possible to repartition device (remove webtop patition)
f) how to instal cm on stock slot? can i do it in safestrap or should i use bmm?
Thanks in advance. Please give me any information connected with it, maybe link to other topics or just write

you cannot flash in the stock rom slot. it will damage the phone.you will have to reinstall via fastboot files if you mess with the stock rom slot. its a *****.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2398867
are you sure its impossible?

yes im pretty positive..i mean by all means go ahead and try it tho. your gunna be posting a thread asking how to fix it afterwards tho.

ok, no flashing on stock,
so what about rest question, should i stay on 4.0.4 or get 4.1.2? can i remove webtop partition and increase size of data?

currently i'm running cm 10.2 on stock rom slot, safestrap recovery
all I did was wiping /system and /data before installing the rom (do not forget to perform a factory reset, too)
for me, biggest benefit of stockromslot is clean internal storage.

[Q] Upgrading from xt910 404 stock to CM10.1

Followed the instructions on the main page of official CM 10.1 & ended up with a bootloop. Wiped caches and user data over & over with no change, so I'm about to downgrade back to 4.0.4 using RSD lite. I'm still determined to get to CM 10.1 on this device though but how do I do that now?
I saw "setting 2init" but I can't make any sense of what it means or how I can make use of it.
While trying to figure it out, I found the guide to upgrade to official JB but the JB OTA file it points to is for the xt912 (I'm using the xt910).
NOTE: I'm not going with the official JB, but it is the only other comprehensive guide I could find for upgrading from 4.0.4.
How do I get CM 10.1 on this phone now?

After flashing the CM10.1 and the 4.2 gapps, you also need to flash the the patch here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1737046&d=1361096282 by whirleyes
it seems to have made things worse. before I had the "infinite cyanogen logo". now I keep getting screen off & the Motorola logo

its that mean you had bricked it?
No. thankfully I can still get to recovery & fastboot
Make sure you install it in second system, your razr will bricked if you install on the first system
And also, make sure you wipe cache/dalvik cache before flashing and factory reset(if you are going to install a other rom) . You need to format /system and wipe cache/dalvik if you are going to update cm10.1 to a new nightly .

Yea.... I never saw this and it's exactly what I've done. Downloading the original ICS roms from it's country of origin to see if I can restore right back to factory settings. I can still go into Recovery mode & I installed the rom to the 2nd slot but I'm not getting anything.

Maybe because of the kernel?? Make sure you dowloaded the cm10.1 for gsm and not for CDMA and also not for the Jelly bean kernel. Can you boot to the first system, which is the stock ROM?

You are now using the official cm10.1. and why does your first system is gone? its dangerous, dont leave it like that, make the stock rom as a backup if something happens at the other system
the reason its showing nothing when you booted your phone is becuase you have wiped you first system! so now i recommend you to factory reset in the stock revocery and flash the 672.180.14.XT910.Retail.en.EU firmware at this link : http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umt...SPDRICSRTGB_HWp2b_Service1FF_fastboot.xml.zip
so you can get the jelly bean leak without erasing your cid (not for the xt912). after that, you can install cm10.1 . The tutorial are here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192532
I literally just finished using RSD Lite to reflash a new ICS rom back onto stock slot. So I'm safe. I'll be working with slot 2 now.
So TheMrcool212 you're saying to use the tutorial to pave the way for CM 10.1? Does it matter that my device is from the UAE?

yes, because the recovery is installed on the first system, if your device is from UAE, its just doesnt matter, but i recommend you to flash the European firmware so you can get the jelly bean leak
I couldn't find the "set 2-init" option in BMM so I skipped it and CM 10.1 is working just fine (installed with bmm) :good:
dont forget to flash whirleys "why we have to...zip" file after flashing cm10.1

Performing a complete factory restore?

Hello,
I am looking to completely restore my phone back to the way it was when I purchased it, though I am not quite certain of how to do it (and to load up a new Rom following that).
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II, running Cyanogenmod in an early version of Kit Kat (4.4).
My internal SD card is a little odd as in that it has an emulated SD partition inside of it (though I'm not totally sure if it's inner workings). This happened after I first installed Cyanogenmod.
So,
What do I need to have ready before the reset? (I want to install the carbon Rom on my phone)
How do I reset it?
Can I proceed as normal afterwards?
Thank you!

I would recommend searching for your firmware on here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/
and using Odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...8-2013-odin-3-09-odin-1-85-versions-t2189539
to flash it to your device. Then you can root your device, flash a custom recovery, and then Carbon ROM. If you just want to switch to Carbon ROM then you can download the zip file and flash it in recovery (Make sure to wipe data and cache before installing in recovery). Let me know if you still have questions.

Thank you! I have a couple questions.
On SamMobile, there were not any version of the firmware from North America (GT-N7105). Does it matter if I use the firmware from a different region, since I'm going to be flashing a new ROM on top of that?
Additionally, will doing this completely wipe out all of my data (including screwy internal SD card partition)? I'm hoping to try and 'start fresh' in a sense.
Thank you!

Sorry for getting back later I have been busy with school work, I would check out the firmwares here, use a country version closest to your region which shouldn't be a big deal since your flashing a custom ROM on top of it. Doing this complete wipe and installing the firmware through Odin will allow you the fresh start you are looking for and (should) fix the problems you were having wiping out all your data in the process.

How to delete stock slot in safe strap

I am running slot 1 liquid smooth and slot 2 slim ROM ,I'm have internal memory remaining only 1gb so I decided to delete stock slot..for gaining some internal memory.. if you fully wipe the stock slot and then reflash one of the roms from like slot 1 on stock slot you would have more space.

You CANNOT delete stock slot.
You can only wipe it.
If you need to free space, delete one of the other slots, or as above post says, move one of your Rom to stock slot and then delete that one.

No, the safestrap that you are talking about is the safestrap.apk. You use that to install/uninstall the hijack that safestrap uses to boot into recovery. Since you have root rights, you gave safestrap the OK to install a bootloader hijack, which operates before the OS(ROM) is loaded up. If you wiped stock slot, then rebooted the phone with out installing a ROM, the hijack would still be there, you would still be able to boot into recovery, you just wouldn't be able to go any farther than recovery. You would just get a black screen afterwards because, well, there wouldn't be a ROM for it to boot too.
If you wipe the stock slot, then install the ROM and Gapps that you want back onto that slot, everything would be fine.
Also from what I understand you CANNOT restore a backup from another slot to stock slot. You will have to do it fresh.
Hope this helped
Thanks a lot for ur nice guide.. Will give a try... Which rom is best suitable for flashing in stock slot.. Only real benefits of putting a ROM in stock slot is saving space on your internal sd card. There are other, little conveniences but that is the main one
I don't know what you mean about installing the recovery without the stock ROM. Safestrap is a root required.apk(application) that installs a hijack for a custom recovery. Once installed it stays there like I said in the previous post, til it is uninstalled or upgraded, or you flash a fresh firmware with a utility.
You don't want to upgrade it without having a ROM installed prior. The new safestrap .apk gives you the option of uninstalling the old 3.65 hijack then installing the new 3.72, it won't install over the old, you have to remove it first. You have to do this in the application, not in recovery, so that means a ROM will already have to be installed.
Right now you should just concentrate on flashing a ROM in stock slot if that is what you want, worry about the recovery update later, as it isn't a requirement. Maybe do some reading first so you have a better understanding of what you are doing before you do it. And figure out how to get yourself out of a problem before you get into it.
As for ROM's, all of them work with safestrap. All of them have their own individual kinks, bugs, and fixes. You would have to read through the individual ROM's forums see which ones you want to try out. I like SlimKat myself, and there are also custom JB ROM's. Since you are using a xt912 you will want spyder versions of ROM's not umts-spyder, that is for xt910
Thanksbfor the fruitful info

If you are only going to have one slot has to be stock. If you read hashcode's information on that you would have known. Since you are getting the Motorola logo, your bootloader is still there. You are a repairable softbrick.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192467
This is matlgrofs utility for the xt912.. make sure to thank him. Follow the direction's EXACTLY!
It will flash a fresh firmware on your phone. And allow you to root it. The safestrap .Apk is a 2.xx Version so your backups wont work with it. So after you flashed the firmware and rooted, you can install the newer safestrap Apk.
Battery life is pretty important with this process, so the phone needs to be 100 (the phone doesn't charge in AP) you cannot cut this corner, if your battery goes dead in the middle of the firmware flash your phone very well will become a brick

thanks for the reply. I actually figured it out on my own. I already had that utility because I used it to root. I just didn't realise I could use it to recover the phone from a soft brick. I also didn't know what the button combo was but I did some reading this morning and thanks to the helpful post of others in various threads I sorted everything out. So everything is running good now and I'm using liquid smooth kitkat with ART enabled and tethering works so I'm happy. This is my first experience with a motorola device and so far it's been the easiest to get rooted and a custom recovery installed, but that whole rom slot thing through me off. thought since I had a rom installed already I could just wipe the stock rom but learned it doesnt work like that...so now I know. Thanks again for the reply though, your info is spot on
This is intriguing to think about, so can safestrap be uninstalled / installed from any working rom slot with any working custom rom?
I can see why this would be helpful, especially to save internal space. Is there a good minimalistic custom rom with enhanced utilities that could be installed in the stock slot for maintenance purposes? Or should I just backup my stock rom and put my favorite rom in the stock slot and just use it for advanced maintenance?
I do think though the first option might be smarter since it's good to have a maintenance stock rom that won't be modified through regular use to be able to boot into for specific tasks.
Any recommendations for stock slot replacement? you did mention slimkat, but are there any ultra basic yet utility heavy custom roms out there for spyder? (I'm using XT912)
Also do I need to do any other specific backup of my stock rom? other than the full back up in safestrap?

Unable to flash stock slot on SS

Just like the title says. I am unable to flash anything to the stock slot on SS. I have tried ,any different times. I have tried wiping the slot and then flashing a fresh version of the ROM I use and also wiping and restoring a previous backup. Everytime when I go to boot the phone it gets stuck on a black screen during boot up. I end up having to use Matts tool and reinstall things back to stock including having to reroot. Anyways I would love to use my stock slot. Any help would be great. thank you

Did you use advanced wipe and select everything except Internal Storage and Micro SDCard?
The stock ROM system partition is only 636mb; is the ROM and GApps package you're using small enough to fit there?

Yes I did use the advanced wipe and wiped all but internal/external SD cards. On the partition thing I'm not sure. Never looked at file size but I'm flashing LS with minimal gapps...others claim to have it on stock slot also.
So after I flash the stock slot on boot it gives me red moto logo. Then black screen. But its not 100% black. I can see some backlight is on cause I can see the splotches in the screen. If I press buttons like volume up the phone with vibrate a few times. Not sure what its doing but I end up having to reinstall system from scratch to fix it. I was hoping for an easy fix

this might help..dont know if you would want to do this or not..i had a note 2 from verison with locked bootloader had to use safestrape ...with that phone the the devs left the recovery incomplete moved onto newer phones so i read..anyways only the stock slot was working in this recovery ..so we had to use stock slot only and the directions read ..flash over stock rom wipe everything except system..and could only use a custom rom with same kernal....example- i had stock jelly bean stock rom think it was 4.2.1 version..so i flashed alliance rom 4.2.1 version..and like i said before wiped everything except internal storage and system....and it worked perfect....dont know if this would work or not...but you said anymore ideas..so why not try....was just thinking..because the bootloader is locked ..shouldnt be able to flash custom rom on stock slot right?shouldnt be able to modify system slot..thats why with the note 2 diddnt wipe system and dirty flashed ,useing the same kernal...................................lol..just relized these posts are from years ago..feel dume now..and i thought i was helping someone..lol

[Q] Can I Flash Roms in Stock Slot?

Hey. I was searching about this topic and i don't find a concrete answer. Some people say yes, others say it's impossible. I would like to know if i can flash a Rom in Stock slot without any problems. And How. What recovery i would use? and What Rom?
I'm Thinking in SS and Carbon Rom for that. What do you recommend?

Stock slot offers you nothing other then over writing the stock and saving internal storage space. Down fall is if you mess up your stock slot you will end up having to rsd the phone again. I like stock slot because I think in my opinion that the rom will run smoother. Not sure if that holds true but so far so good....

The first thing you want to do is backup your stock ROM before flashing another ROM in the stock slot. It's optional, but highly recommended.
Just do the standard wipe (data, cache, dalvik cache) this is all that you need to wipe. Then flash the ROM, then Gapps. And you're set.
I've flashed custom ROMs at least 40-50 times in the stock slot and have never, ever encountered any problems. Just follow the steps above.
