[Q] Enable Auto Awesome Movies in Google+ 4.2 on S3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The new Auto Awesome Movie functionality in Google+ 4.2 seems pretty cool. Here's an article if you don't know what it is:
http://lifehacker.com/google-adds-auto-awesome-movies-great-video-editing-f-1454154626
Anyway, it's only enabled on certain devices running Android 4.3 like the Nexus's. How can it be enabled on S3's running 4.3?
Here's how you see it's enabled:

how to enable in other devices
has anyone found the way yet?

I'm also looking for this for my Note 2. Would love to have auto awesome movies, but it is not available on many devices. Surely someone out there has found a way to make it work on other devices?!

Maybe you can change your device ID within the build prop?

any solution?

I've got a Note 2 as well running Kitkat and I'm sort of pissed for a few weeks now that I can't get movies to work.

I found the solution to enable making movie feature in google photos, but you will need to have your phone rooted.
You need to edit build.prop file in /system folder in root and find and edit as following:
(be sure to backup your build.prop file first)
ro.product.brand=google
ro.product.name=shamu
ro.product.manufacturer=Google
o.build.product=shamu
ro.product.model=Nexus 6
ro.product.device=shamu
ro.cm.device=shamu
Save the file and do a reboot and then try selecting multiple photos and click on the plus button on top, it will now show an option to make a movie, if still it does not show, reboot again it will show up.

PC application ADB Mask Controller

Hallo guys!
I would like to refer to the beautiful work of Mask-1.
He crated a small program to manage your x10 mini (pro) with adb via PC.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868423
This is a tool I created to help me with my X10. I thought it might be useful to some of you so I made some fixes and here it is! Keep in mind that this is a beta version so use at your own risk. Some of the features are:
• push, pull and install apps
• remove apps
• view and edit: gps.conf, Hosts and build.prop
• view and kill running processes
• zipalign (user apps)
• push and pull Bootanimation, framework-res and Framework jar files
• clean cache and temp folders
• and others.
I tested it on X10, X10 mini and X8 (non rooted) .
For any questions, problems or suggestions please leave a message

I've tested it with my x10 mini pro and i will never miss it again.
Doesn't seem to work on my Mini Pro. It show everything as if it works in the app but it doesn't do anything. Tried to delete some apps but they are still there on the phone even after reboot.
That looks sweet!
(I like the look of the little option at the bottom of the window that says turn sleep button into end call!!)
Might have to have a play..
and it just works!!
Love this app.. I have changed my power off button into a end call button, edited my host list so I don't get bothered by adds, played with frameworks, shifted apps to system/apps.. all stuff I could do with ADB but soooo much quicker and easier
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!
hey,, i tried the end call button replacement, but all my button does not work.. is there anything I could do about it?
If i need to modify a file, just let me know. thanks.

Z2 lock screen wallpaper locked to image from Youtube vid???

Hi folks,
I was watching a vid on youtube today and have noticed the lock screen wallpaper features an image of a scene from it. A blurry picture of hotdogs on a kitchen top
I can't get rid of it, I've tried setting other wallpapers, have applied Xperia themes but the bloody thing won't budge. My phone is unrooted and I'm using Sony's Lollipop OS.
Any help? It's infuriating and looks stupid as hell!

I tried locating the above image and deleting it to see if that would help. I tracked it down via File Manager and it was saved to my internal memory to a screenshots folder. I deleted it but it keeps regenerating and its still there as a lock screen wallpaper.
Here are the image properties if they mean anything....

This has been observed as a bug in lollipop.
Try these suggestions -
1. Clear Cache/Data of the YouTube app and Reboot
2.Just play a station(Fm radio) or any music from an app and then close it.(This will put an album art on the lock screen) and the lockscreen picture will be back to normal.
3.Watch a different video on YouTube and then close it.
Thanks for the advice. I didn't do any of that, I installed the XZ Locker app last night, set a wallpaper (which didn't work) but after deleting the app my lock screen had reset itself to a pre-installed Xperia wallpaper (which I can now change to anything of my choice).
Strange one but everything seems to be fine now.

Data lost but huge "system data" partition after a crash

Hi everyone.
I've a Nexus 5 which runs Android 6.0.1 but I think the problem is not especially related to the Nexus 5, so I post here.
What happened ? Few days ago my phone crashed (I didn't use it) and was slow to boot up. So I tried to force the reboot by pressing the power button for 15/20s and it worked.
But 5/10min after I saw the "Select language" menu ... The phone performed a factory/reset by itself. I don't know why.
First, I plug my phone to my computer and I've seen that 26GB/32GB were already in use.
So I tried to recover my pictures and videos with many apps and the one which worked was "Undeleter" (5$) but it didn't recover all my data.
Yesterday, I wanted to understand what happened really. I ran "DiskUsage" which give me this result for /storage/emulated/0 :
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
How can I access to the "System data" partition which has a size similar to the storage space used before the crash ?
Regards,
Laurent
EDIT :
Finally I backed up all my data !
Indeed, files of my memory (/sdcard) before the crash was in /data/lost+found/#1351681/0
Then, I was able to move them to /sdcard and to copy the files on my PC.
How to ?
Make sure your phone is rooted and install a file explorer such as Root Browser.
Open Root Browser and navigate until /data/lost+found/#xxxxx [in my case, with a Nexus 5 it was 1351681/0]
(Look for the directory which corresponds to your previous "sdcard".)
Now, you can see the files but you can't open them. So move (not copy!) them to /sdcard (I suggest you to do that folder by folder).
Great, you've recovered your files ! But now, transfer them to your computer to prevent damages (I was forced to do that and remove files after to continue because the storage was full).
You can do it in connecting your phone to your computer and via the explorer or you can use adb (adb pull /sdcard/directory_to_move path_to_a_dir_of_your_computer)
I hope it will be useful.

Phone Renaming/ Bluetooth renaming - Pie gone?

I renamed the phone S9+ to something different on 8. Updated to beta 9 and everything stuck. Google showed the name of the device online to what I renamed it to. No problems.
Factory reset the device, renamed device under the about settings area. Under bluetooth, there isn't an option to change device name or anywhere else I have looked. Computers see it as Galaxy S9+, Google online sees it as Samsung Galaxy S9+.
What am I missing here? Is there another setting or renaming somewhere so the phone 'Identifies' as what I name it?
Anyone?
Try doing the following:
Go to "settings" and then "About Phone"
On the top should be the words "Galaxy S9+" and a little button under it labled "edit"
Press the edit button and little window appears. The window informs you that the name you enter will be shown on other devices when your phone is available to connect using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct and other methods.
Enter the name you want to be shown and press done.
I've done that. Google still identifies it as the device, not the renamed device. So online using the find device feature, it still shows the device. Not the renamed device name.
Does this make sense?

There's rename option on the application.
Yes. This too, I am aware of. However, before, when I renamed on Android 8, it renamed it automatically across the board. Now on 9, it doesn't.

Maybe, just maybe, Samsung doesn't give the right for the application to read the device name. Or google use the one registered first, no update. The point is there's sollution for your problem, manual but effective.

Question Realme GT missing basic apps

Hello everybody
First time poster thanks for the help in advance. Please note I am a total novice when it comes to anything like rooting or unlocking boot but i can follow instruction if you leave them.
I bought my phone from Ali express global launch event. When I received the phone i noticed some basic functionality is missing for example : Gallery, File explorer, CAMERA APP. and so on.
It doesnt make sense, my camera works through whatsapp and such but no dedicated app.
I am starting to think the firmware was faulty. Waited for few updates hoping it will sort itself out, but no luck.
Now I am considering installing stock firmware but I have no idea where to start. I have downloaded few roms "different versions?" but i don't know how install them on my phone. They are on the root of the phone storage but i assume i must root my phone to get fast boot ? because i tried restarting with holding volume down, after language selection i can chose between wipe and reboot no update option.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
If you use the App Drawer view, you may find the missing icons there.
In settings/app-management/app-list you will find all installed apps.

Only found files in app list but I can't open it. Other apps have options of : open, uninstall, and force stop but not this app. For the other apps like camera and gallery they are not there. Do you think a fresh install of stock ROM will help or no ?
If the apps are not displayed in your app list, the best thing you can do is do a factory reset.
Which firmware version do you have on the GT ?
The GT was in its original packaging and shrink-wrapped when you received it ?
Ya it was brand new. Bought from Realme official store.
I see your firmware is A 16 mine is A13 but when I check for update it says am on the latest version?!
Also my Google backup is greyed out so factory reset will set me back big time.
