I bricked my friend's S2, please help! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so I've rooted 2 phones so far with no problem. But when I did it to my friend, the phone won't lauch the rom any more (tried with slimbean).
I used this method before I installed slimbean: http://scientimystic.wordpress.com/...i9100-having-android-4-1-2-official-firmware/
After installing it, it wouldn't load. So I reinstalled my backup that I did after I rooted, and nothing, the phone is just stuck on the galaxy s2 screen and a yellow exclamation triangle below.
I can boot into cwm or download mode, but I can't transfer files on my phone I think.
Please help, if it was my phone I wouldn't be so desperate but I really don't want to screw up my friends phone.

If you can boot into cwm and download mode it aint bricked.
All it is....is a borked OS......I'm guessing that if you were on JB before, that when you backed up, you didn't include the preload partition. If your chosen custom rom zip is still on your phone, boot into cwm and flash it again. Thiss time though, before you reboot the phone post flash, wipe cache, dalvic and data.....then reboot.

Hey, ok then well I thought bricked meant you can't load the rom.
My backup actually worked now so all is ok, but I can't install any custom rom - every one of them just loops indefinitely at the loading once I flash it, and after that it won't do anything until i revert my backup.

Are you sure you're rooted?

Yes, I used the guide in the link and checked some apps that required root.

Your custom rom installs......are you doing the post install wipes?
Are you waiting long enough for the phone to complete the first boot?
It always takes longer than usual for that initial boot......

Yes, I wiped the cache afterwards and I waited enough.. 15 minutes sure is enough of a wait, is it not?

Yeah....15 minutes is plenty long enough......but when I said wipes....I didn't mean just cache....I meant dalvic and data too.....

Clearly, you haven't wiped data.

S2 bootloop. Yes i used search.

Alright. So i decided to get jellybean resurrection on my tel.
Everything went good etc but when i try to start up it starts up does everything.
Then you get the ressurection remix logo and it stays there..
When i used search i read flash it back with odin? etc
I read it but still i have no clue on what to do.
Yes you have to use Odin to flash a stock firmware. You can get stock firmware for your phone (providing it is the i9100) from sammobile.com.

Could you explain the steps i have to follow?
My friend which has his S2 rooted explained it to me trough whatsapp but he must've forgotten a step since it failed.
Trying to find the stock rom now.
Use this guide. It explains how to use Odin.

I'm stupid, I forgot to add the link!
By the way, to set up Odin, download Kies for the drivers, but kill off Kies processes in the Task Manager and make sure you run Odin with Administrator Rights.

Wipe data/cache in recovery.
Wipe dalvik cache.
Then flash the Resurrection Remix zip again.
(RR's previous build was ICS, moving to JB, you need to wipe cache and data).
If you need your data and other settings etc you need to reflash ICS RR, backup, then flash JB RR.

Either, or. This person is really struggling to understand the basics. Not sure if they should have a custom ROM in my opinion.

[Q] New to rooting i717

I have an AT&T i717 running ics stock rom. I installed cwm 5.0. something and was intending on installing the CM10 JellyBean rom from paranoid. It would not install from sd card. tried another rom from diff developer, same thing. I read that I needed an updated cwm so I tried to flash another, wouldnt work with the version of ODIN i had so i upgraded to v3.07, was able to flash another and then when I went to recovery it stayed in a black screen, reflashed the older version of cwm and now when I go to recovery it will show the main screen, but if I try to install or even reboot it takes the menu away and shows the symbol in the center. Am I just completely stupid? Have I missed something?

Did it work?
Figured it out. Cleared both cache and delvik Cache and did a factory reset. worked like a charm. thanks for the help and I hope this helps others as well.
Just for future reference, also wiping system along with wiping cache/dalvik and factory reset is good practice. Sometimes not wiping system can cause some issues.
