[Q] GT-i9300 4.3 Update - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, been a member of these forums for a small time now but this is my first proper post. I own a Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300, unlocked, rooted, CWM'ed, with a Siyah Kernel and running stock OS (currently 4.1.2.) I am not a very techy person myself and am surprised I managed to modify my device at all, yet alone to the minimal extent I have.
My question is this; how would I go about updating my device to 4.3 Jellybean? I understand I must remove root for an OTA update but I am not sure if the custom kernel will cause any complications during my install, and if I would need to remove CWM? I'd rather avoid waiting for Sammobile to release the ROM as I know this will require wiping all the data on my device - a hassle I'd rather avoid.
Thanks for your time and any feedback would be appreciated.

OTA update won't work with custom kernel and recovery.
Galaxy Note 2 - rooted and customized leaked 4.3 stock
At&t Galaxy note 2 - rooted stock 4.1.2
Xperia Neo L - Bootloader unlocked, rooted and customized 4.0.4 stock.

Galaxy s3 i9300 OTA updates while rooted with CWM recovery?

Hi guys!
This is my first thread post so bare with me I have a galaxy s3 rooted with CWM recovery on stock ROM. If Samsung releases a jelly bean OTA update to us soon, will i be able to flash it or will it brick the phone?
I know i can always flash a custom JB ROM that i know CM9 and AOSP are currently working on, but if i want to do it officialy through Samsung, will i be able to? Are there any risks?!
Thanks!
as long as youve used chainfires cwm ver1.5+ youll be fine to get ota updates but you will need to run cf root again after the update.

OTA's
Since v1.5, flashing OTA updates is supported directly using this recovery. You should however be aware that said OTA will most likely re-install stock recovery and remove this one. Furthermore, it may keep doing so every time you boot. CF-Root v6.3 (and newer) will try to disable this, it is advised you flash that. Just reflashing this CWM recovery will likely not help.

rooted galaxy s3 can i install factory update?
Hello from a noob
. I purchased a Galaxys3 Verizon with android 4.1.1 from a fellow that did not disclose it was rooted.
I have no idea what the steps are if I would like to do the next up date and what will happen if I do it.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks snuke1e
You don't have i9300 so not much help here.... Find Verizon section...

Now that I have Stock JB.....

So far my experience with the recent update has been mediocre, Its been 2 days now for me and i'm ready to re-root my device and start tackling some of the bloatware to help improve performance or maybe installing some custom roms again(No Really this phone had better fluidity when i was running GB)....My questions is: now that i'm running stock 4.1 is the rooting process any different from when I was running stock 4.0.4?
I can't post links but on Galaxy note hacks there is a rooting guide specific to my phone...but not specific to the software version.
Thank You

That link is rather useless without explaining how to get recovery...
Op yes.
rooting jb is the same... use Odin to flash a custom recovery image.
Then use that recovery to flash zips, for root, or a completely different Rom.

[Q] Can't get certain apps after rooting

So my tablet was orginally a samsung galaxy GT-P5113, however I rooted it and everything and now it's a 4.3 GT-P5110.
I rooted it because everyone said it would be better, however, how is limited access better? Did I do something wrong?
I can't download anything that has to do with samsung and I can't even download the samsung app store.
Can someone help me?

Rooting doesn't change your device name or information, it just let's you access your system files. Are you sure that the method you used to root your phone is designed for your specific device?

At&t Galaxy note 2 - rooted stock 4.1.2

Well, I rooted it and also updated the software. I think it was 4.1.1 or something I updated it to 4.3 nightly version.
When I updated it I made sure it was meant for my tablet but maybe I was wrong. It was my first time doing it.. so...
What should I do then? Is there a way I can turn it back into how it was before? and maybe update the system the correct way?

[Q] Advice for 4.3 upgrade

Hi,
I have a Verizon Galaxy Note II I605 running Android 4.1.1 that I had originally rooted via Odin and followed instructions on the galaxynote2root website last Jan/Feb in 2012
I would like to upgrade to a stock ROM of 4.3 and keep root and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction in regards to which ROM to use and the steps to do so. I really only use root for the wifi tether and would like to keep the phone as close to stock as possible. I've gone through a number of different forums and posts but can't seem to find some good instructions with a corresponding recommendation on an Official OTA 4.3 ROM to use. I've found a lot variations on 4.3 ROMs, but most of them have gutted a lot of things or discussing having to flash firmware which makes me nervous.
Also, is it true I may be forced to take the OTA in the near future and potentially soft brick my phone if I don't either revert back to stock or install a 4.3 ROM which disables the update app. I'm not sure if the ROM i'm currently running has this disabled or not.
Thanks in advance for any help,
eugenikz
Beanstown or sophisticated rom will be the official stock 4.3, however your gonna have to flash the Official MJ9 firmware via Odin. You could take the OTA but the bootloader will be locked afterwards. There is root available with the OTA stock but you won't be able to load a custom recovery therefore no more custom roms.
+1. I did this with my note2. Was the same as yours. I'm now on sophisticated 2.0 highly recommended. I also updated recovery to Phils, which seems to be the conventional wisdom for flashing 4.3.

[Q] Flashing Custom ROMS in 4.3

I recently got a Galaxy Note II and have been flashing ROMs for a while on other phones (RAZR MAXX, GNex, and more)
My Note II is currently on 4.1.2 and I've been reading a lot of threads and I understand I can use CASUAL to root, unlock, and load TWRP which is great!
My question is that I see a lot of threats with 4.3 ROMS so how do I update my Note II to the MJ9 4.3 update and keep TWRP or some custom bootloader so I can flash custom ROMS. From all that I've read, the 4.3 update comes with a new bootloader that's locked and unable to be unlocked currently.
The best info I've come across is this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49555505&postcount=6
which is saying to download the Firmware: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319198557 (toltevzw_mj9_official_firmware.tar.md5.7z) and flash it, that should update me from 4.1.2 to 4.3 while keeping TWRP and root? Or am I missing something in how to get to 4.3 and flash all the newest ROMs?

Most all of the 4.3 based rom threads have a link to a partial firmware update that you need to flash in Odin in order for Wifi to work correctly.
The partial firmware update will not lock your bootloader.

If I were you, I would take these steps:
1. Root and unlock bootloader with Casual's latest.
2. Head to Alliance Rom build 23 and download the mj9 firmware there. (This will not cause you to lose root or lock your bootloader) Install using odin. From there you will be updated to mj9 firmware, but will not be updated to 4.3. You will still be on 4.1.2 until you flash a 4.3 rom via TWRP or CWM.
3. Choose any of the available 4.3 Roms of your liking. Make sure you update your TWRP to the latest via goomanager or another alternate way.
