[KOT49H] Synman's GwT ROM for DEB - Nexus 7 (2013) LTE Android Development

[KOT49H] Synman's GwT ROM for DEB
GwT is an experimental AOSP build for the N73G and N7LTE Nexus tablets for those wanting to stay as close to the intended Google Experience as possible.  SMS and MMS are fully functional as is tethering.  This ROM is slim with no bloat or non experience apps loaded and should serve well as a daily driver or as a base ROM for theming / framework hacks when the modder doesn't want to go through the trouble to create their own full build.
As with all things XDA, proceed at your own RISK.

Install Instructions (assumes already unlocked):
It is highly recommended that you start with a full wipe from a known good installation of the N7LTE stock binaries.
If you don't know how to get to this initial state or how to proceed on your own bypassing this step then you have no business installing this ROM.
As of KRT16O GwT is installed via recovery. RC1 (based on the original Nexus 5 source) requires fastboot.
KOT49H Installation Instructions
Flash Google's Factory Image for KOT49H to your device and perform at least one full boot. This is the recommended baseline for KOT49H and ensures you have the most recent boot loader, kernel, and modem firmware installed.
Install the latest DEB version of TWRP or Clockwork Recovery and boot your tablet into it.
Download the GwT KOT49H zip file to your PC and copy it to your tablet's sd card.
Via recovery perform an install of the GwT KOT49H zip update.
Perform a factory reset of your tablet in Recovery.
Perform at least one full boot.
Optionally, Install GAPPs (a PA link is provided below) and once again perform a factory reset of your tablet in Recovery.
Optionally, root your tablet using the link provided below.
RC1 Installation Instructions
Download the GwT zip file and unzip it on your PC. Reboot your N7LTE into bootloader mode and from the directory where you unzipped the GwT archive to execute the following commands:
Code:
Shells-Retina-MBP:GwT shell$ [B]export ANDROID_PRODUCT_OUT=./[/B]
Shells-Retina-MBP:GwT shell$ [B]fastboot -w flashall[/B]
Once the install is complete if unsure of next steps or problems occur perform a Factory Reset of your N73G.
Reboot and allow GwT to fully boot.
Optionally, install the recommended Google Apps package referenced below.

You'll very likely want to copy Launcher2 from /system/priv-app back into /system/app after installing GAPPS. Google's Experience Launcher is not quite ready for primetime on our tablet yet.
Packaged with TWRP 2.6.3.0 instead of the stock recovery... please thank the TWRP guys for all their hard work.

This looks Great! Downloading now! Many thanks!
Edit: never mind, I figured it out
One question, is there going to be any issue for going back to stock?
Hint to flashers: userdata.img is going to erase all your internal memory.

The dialer is just so great, I can run USSD codes, and that's perfect! How did you get it to work? Is there the possibility of voice calls too in the future?

There are no issues going back to stock. I have tested this path forward and backward a couple times now with zero issues.
The above instructions (in their current form) require a FULL WIPE. I recommend this approach so as not to have to fall into the pit of this didn't work and that didn't work, etc, etc when folks get creative in the way they try to install the ROM.
You can certainly veer from this course, and I'm certain a few will with great success.
Voice calls will work awesome so long as you configure a SIP provider.

I have also posted the AOSP Launcher2.apk in the downloads area as it appears the PA GAPPS installer is wiping it out completely. If you want to get back to the stock launcher, simply drop Launcher2.apk back into /system/app and reboot. Post lock screen you will be prompted for which Launcher to use.

Hey syn, I remember you digging into the nexus7 first gen for gsm calls as well (thanks) is it looking like it's blockered by goog again on second gen as well?!?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app

Yup... Very similar observations thus far.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

Fantastic job, thanks a lot!
Google be damned for the voice calls though
Sent from my GT-P6800 using xda app-developers app

Very interresting project. If also the factory image & binaries are for deb avaialbe and you may update your current ROM I will test this ROM. Looks very promising.
Why we need to use these commands
Code:
Shells-Retina-MBP:GwT shell$ export ANDROID_PRODUCT_OUT=./
Shells-Retina-MBP:GwT shell$ fastboot -w flashall
to install the ROM. Why not a zip fo a recovery. What is the idea behind this process?
Also I can only install GApps AFTER the ROM boot up after installen. Not directly after the ROM flash?

Any news for the camera? Is it possible to port the drivers and libraries from official 4.4 Flo roms?
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 4 mit Tapatalk

Yeah, it is very doable using the flo sources but I'll likely wait for official deb to cut down on rework. My schedule is pretty booked.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Phone settings and it's children?? I've got a couple of questions if you don't mind.
This seems like an amazing ROM. I was looking at your thread for the original N7. I understand that GSM in not enabled, that is fine. But my question pertains to having the phone features enabled on this ROM. I am wanting to use my N7LTE as a primary device, I see that SIP is supported. This is great. However, what I am wanting to know is, does this dialer enabled ROM with the phone settings included, allow other devices to see this as a phone? My reason for asking is this. I have my tablet installed into the dash of my car. Bluetooth headsets can see the tablet having both Phone and Media tickboxes for connection over bluetooth. My car stereo, however seems to only recognize the tablet for Media audio. My current setup is stock KitKat, non-rooted. For activities like Play Music, only Media audio is ok, but for SIP or say Hangouts audio, I cannot get that to stream to the car stereo. My HTC One has the ability to do it all, therefore, I am wondering if it comes down to device profile and/or dialer and phone setting functions that are preventing me from achieving this.
Any help would be awesome. My dream is to do SIP (or Hangouts) calling over data, and stream EVERYTHING over bluetooth with no restrictions, one device to rule them all, out and about, in the car, at work, or simply on the couch.
Thanks again, your work is greatly appreciated.

SMS/MMS related question, since you seem to be the only one with it working in a KitKat ROM.
Do you have any idea how one might go about enabling this feature in the official 4.4 build? There seems to be a limitation in the stock telephony apk that prevents the option to set a default client form being exposed. Do you think replacing the telephony apk/odex from stock with the one from your rom here would be sufficient or would additional modifications be required?

If you mean SMS function, this is working fine on stock rom. Only need is installing a SMS app like 8sms ( www.8s.ms)

I've used a BT headset successfully with SIP calls. It presents both the phone and media profiles to connecting devices but can be a little buggy. There is very likely additional mapping opportunities... I simply haven't covered all scenarios yet with the LTE version.
Regarding framework jars its a bit bigger than just telephony but you are on the right track. There is also a BT connect bug that you'd need to hack via smali or is it smil? Far too many techs and acronyms floating around in my brain. Your approach is where I started last year and once I got an idea of the extent of it it was a lot easier to just build my own ROM .

No, no it doesn't not on the official google build. The option to set an app as the default SMS app is missing, and this results in 8SMS being "disabled".

Thanks for the reply. I guess my question is really this... With the native dialer (phone.apk and it's settings exposed) does this allow the Bluetooth stack in the Rom to enable the hands free profile (HPF) contained in the current Android version? I have researched that this function is tied to the dialer and it's presence. That is why tablets so far cannot enable audio for calling functions. If it does, my problems are solved, as well as many others installing in their cars. If not, would it be possible to do, and would you have any interest in trying to enable it? I truly think this is as best as we will get for in car calling over sip/data using a car stereo to stream and/or even sip/data calls using a regular headset if need be.
Thanks again for responding.

All I can tell you is to try it. My N7LTE replaced my N73G in my car but I spend very little time trying to actually use it as a sip phone because my actual phone is usually easier to reach than the tablet.
I use mms/SMS quite a bit (my wife has gotten into the habit of texting my car to ascertain my whereabouts) and the hands free profile works perfectly with my grom.
If you come across any bugs or limitations I'll be more than happy to research, and very likely address, them like I did on GwT for the original N73G.
I have just enough time to make the framework changes and run the builds.... It is your job to test and provide feedback

I'm downloading 4.4_r1.1 now ... will likely have a new release out by the end of the weekend. I'm very curious to see how Launcher3 (Google Experience Launcher) is behaving in our "official" release.

READ ALL OF THIS POST AND THE ONE AFTER IT!
No, really, read it all. There's important information in here, honest!
Edit: Desire to Nexus One port status update - read
What is it?
As you all know, HTC have announced the 'HTC Desire', which is effectively HTC's version of the Nexus One. It shares a lot of the same hardware, but features cool stuff like HTC Sense and other cool apps (such as a camera app with face recognition, touch focus etc. etc.). The product is due to launch soon, which means ROMs have started to leak. This Alpha release is one such leak.
Alpha? That sounds scary?
Yeah, this isn't even Beta. There's a good chance you won't want to use this as your main ROM, but you might like to check out what's coming down the road.
So what works?
Almost everything - it's quicker to talk about what doesn't work. Aside from the FM radio, there appear to be no hardware incompatibilities that will cause a problem between the two devices. Even the noise cancelling microphone is functional in this ROM. The only problems with the ROM are related to the fact that HTC are yet to release the Desire kernel source, and there's a lot of changes in there. For the latest known issues status, please see the post below.
Tell me about partitions!
The Desire has a different partition layout to the Nexus One, which means some stuff had to be moved from /system to /data. No biggie, and with each Alpha release i'm optimising further to improve the situation. Be aware that this means you must wipe BEFORE installing the ROM and NOT AFTER, or it won't boot. A wipe is strongly recommended before trying this ROM - and remember to nandroid backup first!
What else are you working on for the ROM?
I have deliberately left this ROM un-odex'd, as I know other ROM developers will like to have a play with it (remember to credit your source guys!). Going forward, odex'ing the ROM makes a lot of sense to save space, although it's less of an issue now I have moved the dalvik-cache to the cache partition (as in cyanogen's ROM).
What kernel are you using? Any other tweaks worth knowing about?
The ROM has the usual MCR tweaks (tun.ko, openvpn, busybox, dropbear etc.) and is running a custom kernel by teknologist and myself based on the stock .33 source (check the changelog below for more details). Himem is enabled. The kernel runs at standard clock speeds, uniquely only using undervolt at the lowest clock speeds.
This is great - how can we say thanks?
Details on how to support my work should you wish to do so (any contributions are gratefully received) are available on the download page.
Alright, i've read enough, gimme the downloads!
One download, update zip format, apply via Amon_RA's excellent recovery image, remember to Nandroid backup first. You probably won't want to use this as your production ROM yet!
DOWNLOAD
These links use referrer checking to prevent bandwidth theft - if you get redirected to the MoDaCo homepage, try 'right click save as', another browser, or disabling noscript / ad blocking
One more thing?
To finish i'd like to say 'enjoy playing with the ROM', thanks for your support and here's looking forward to the final Desire release (after a few more Betas) on our beloved Nexus Ones!

Bootsound removed - it will be an optional extra in the kitchen. It was annoying me.
Alpha 8
Hugely, HUGELY, optimised for space. Only the framework sits on /data now (and there's 12MB free on system currently!), and I foresee that with more work, we might even be able to fit everything on /system!
dalvik-cache moved to /cache, this frees up a ton of space on /data

Alpha 7
Fixed issue with ringtones list
Alpha 6
Changes to try and resolve random reboots
Alpha 5
Fixed white screen on boot, wifi and update-script issues
Fixed graphical glitching
Alpha 1-4
Disastrous
Did a full wipe and flashed Alpha 5.
First boot took 2 minutes 40 seconds from cold boot. Subsequent boots took 20-30 seconds.
Rom seems pretty fast although I do see some (minor) slowness coming from CyanogenMod.
HTC setup is working. Including adding wifi and setting up your Google, Facebook, Flickr, and Twitter accounts.
Camera is working at the reported 3mp resolution and facial recognition also works.
Flash works but as others have reported it is slow and Hulu.com still doesn't work so your dreams of Hulu on the go are going to have to wait.
The included gallery app is definitely not as eye candy rich as Google's but it is usable.
As we all know the HTC IME is far better then the stock keyboard.
As stated FM doesn't work but it seems to be trying. It will scan and pick up local stations it just can't seem to produce audio from them.
The proximity and light sensors actually seem to be working better then Stock/CM builds.
USB-MS does not appear to be working. In settings there is a "Connect to PC" option that is set to "Charge Only" with additional options of HTC Sync, Disk Drive, and Internet Sharing. Switching to Disk Drive and trying both ask me and automatic I was not able to have it show as a mounted drive.
With the exception of the USB-MS issue this rom seems very good considering it's alpha state and I can see alot of poeple using this as their daily driver. I did not experience any graphical glitches like in the previous alphas. All in all this is in far better shape already then any Sense port to the G1.
Keep up the good work Paul.
@Paul, I've installed it but something weird happened. I was stuck at the HTC bootscreen and then after a while my "old" wallpaper showed from my CM rom install I did a wipe and everything so no idea what happened.
Trying to reflash as of now
EDIT: works brill! thanks!
Great work! and thankyou v much!

Hmmm, not finding any devices either here I don't think. I am 95% sure I know what the problem is if this is the case, so I can probably fix for next alpha.

Fantastic work, paul! Thanks much, and I'll be dropping by to buy kitchen access!
Notes:
1) My SD card isn't loaded upon boot. I'm an android n00b, but I've noticed that android really doesn't like to run without an SD card, and indeed, I got a couple of spontaneous reboots. This last time, I hit the notification area instantly and pressed the SD card notification, it loaded the card, and I haven't had a reboot since (yet).
2) I've had apps tell me to insert SD card, even though the notification is gone, and things seem to be working well. More details as situation develops.
(sd card is SanDisk 8G Class 2, installed this ROM after a wipe, previous ROM CyanogenMod 5.0.3)
UPDATE: yeah, Titanium Backup is not seeing my SD card at all. Trying to mount it via adb shell, not really sure what the device name is! If anyone knows, chime in! Otherwise, let's learn together!
sorry for the annoyance...and bluetooth? about to become adfree member fo sho
u answered it at modaco, thanks. look forward to alpha 6!
SDcard seems to be OK here?

[removed by Paul]
Just had a reboot on startup. If anyone can grab a logcat at reboot time, that might give us a clue as to what's happening.
P
any news on sync? none of the syncs seem to be working atm for me.
thanks
just flash it , seem too good to be alpha
i'll play around with it for a while and will get back
## confirm about reboot issue , but i had it when testing a keyboard .. type word SIMPLE or something .. then N1 reboot all of sudden ##
reboots galore
When I try to sign in to facebook. when i try to connect to wifi.
Speed is fantastic and my internet is way faster then the stock rom.
Ok when i try to access the downloads section in the android market i get reboots.
I've adb-logcatted and there's nothing immediately obviously, i'm going to use my device and try and establish a pattern of behaviour to the reboots.

These Builds are Modified versions of the STS-DEV-TEAM Builds that I have tweaked and have done small changes to the builds making patches to the update-binaries and other changes to the builds that will go unnoticed mainly fixed small issues with extraction of the zipped roms to make changes to the binaries and such which are safe. you will also noticed that the builds are slightly larger as I have tweaked compression a bit.
The main system Versions for the BootMenu are extremely experimental so use with causion and have RSD LITE on hand just in case something goes wrong. I have taken every precausion I could think of to make sure it is safe to use but I am only human and have been known to make mistakes and may of missed something I have modified these builds by hand one file at a time making sure that I patched the files that needed unlike the other builds which was done when compiled.
I will try and keep this up to date and compile new Versions of the BootMenu as they release there unofficial builds I Am also posting patched versions of there unofficial builds without the BootMenu Patches so that you can enjoy my minor tweaks and patch them yourself. I am basing my patches off the BootMenu 0.2.8 BETA 3 so make sure you are using this version before flashing these files with BootMenu.

Been looking for a BootMenu, main system ROM! Need a full on daily driver though, will definitely be interested in the progress here.

wow...it new...wanna try it...
I ask cooking up new versions of the BootMenu builds. These are the last stable builds stock Oct 08.I should have them up tomorrow after I finish hacking the files and patching a few things manually since there is no automated stock system Converter. Hopefully sometime next week I will have my Linux build environment fully setup and will not have to manually hack the files. I an in the process of forking key repositories off the STS-DEV-TEAM Github and begin work on modify the source.

How is this different from the other spryte release?
I'm running the kexec CM10 ROM but I'm willing to flash this if the battery is truly better.
If I did want to do that, how would I?
Are you using the one from rombot.org?
I left my phone on for two days with build Oct 05 stock using second system
Sent from my DROID RAZR CDMA XT912 using Tapatalk 2
You should update the OP. For Stock Roms deep sleep is working fine. Spryte should also do in his thread.
I'm new to BootMenu and just installed it last night.
I grabbed the Oct5 build and Gapps and put it in my download directory.
Can I follow the regular BootMenu instructions for install, now?
Convert the ROM and then use second System install and enjoy

Set Patch 2nd-init rootfs?
Latest version doesn't need to tick any options for converting..
XT910 - CM_D-WiZ
I followed all the steps here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792955
But it seems that even if I set it to boot the 2nd system, it boots the 1st system. Hmm. Any pointers? Maybe I should post in the BootManager thread.
[edit] Never mind, I went into Manage 2nd System options in the BootManager app and unchecked the 2nd Init option for the 2nd system and then rebooted into second system and now it's booting into CyanogenMod!!! Yay!
[edit2] This CyanogenMod spinning logo has been sitting here spinning for a long time. How long should it take on first boot?
[edit3]it never got past the spinning CyanogenMod logo. I finally had to reboot the phone and go back into stock rom because I needed to use the phone.
I tried again, but I checked all the options on the conversion this time and turned on the 2nd init option in the BootManager. Now it's working. Pretty nice, could use as a daily driver.
Some thoughts:
This ROM is fast, fast, fast and extremely smooth compared to the stock Verizon ROM. I have not rebooted since I first brought it up and have used it for all my daily activities. I don't see anything so far that would cause me to say that it's not a good daily driver. I'm not a big music listening user though, at least, not with my phone.
Deep sleep seems to work fine for me. I was at 1% battery and expected it would run out any minute, but I took it back out after a couple of hours in my pocket and it still had 1%, go figure.
I'm not sure why it says the screen rotation animation is not working but the screen rotation seems to work fine for me.
Voice quality is excellent. Signal acquisition is equivalent to stock (settings change noted below)
Battery in single digit increments versus increments of 10 in the stock ROM.
Camera works well for still images.
Didn't get 4G service until I used the Phone Info app to change preferred network type from LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) to LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)
Chrome crashes in this ROM, it doesn't force quit or give any sort of message, it just mysteriously dies off.
The default launcher does not have many options for customizing the app drawer. I prefer a continuous scroll to the way it's set up. It also doesn't have an option for continuous home screen scrolling, i.e., it has a left edge and a right edge. But it's so fast I am going to leave it as-is for now.
The YouTube app is choppy even when the video is fully downloaded, seems like some sort of hardware acceleration issue. It's ok on low definition but on any HD modes it's stutter city.
Facebook contacts don't sync up but as I understand it, this is a CM10 issue.
When you plug the phone into your computer, the charging indicator lightning bolt shows but the phone continues to discharge. May be a driver issue, are CM10 drivers available for my Windows 7 machine? Maybe I should force it to use the Motorola drivers in the Device Manager.
I have a newer version ready but sadly I am having to setup my Linux box again because I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10 and had a bad upgrade which corrupted my system So I had to do a fresh install
Sent from my DROID RAZR CDMA XT912 using Tapatalk 2
How fast is GPS lock in these roms? I'm still using the OTA, and GPS lock is pitifully slow.
It took about 90 seconds to lock in when I navigated from my work to my house.
I also used the GPS on my 15 mile bicycle ride this afternoon with the Endomondo exercise tracking app, no problems. And the phone was in my back jersey pocket so no clear line of sight.

Caution - SDcard directory changes with 4.2 installation
For those of you that are new to 4.2 releases, be aware that installing and running this rom creates a directory "/sdcard/0" and moves all content in the sdcard directory to the "0" directory. (Perhaps I missed a posting somewhere on this.)
I reinstalled this rom a few times due to Gapps crashes and later could not find any of my files files in the sdcard directory including my backup files. I first thought I had accidentally formatted the sdcard, but later found that each time I had tried to flash and start this rom another new "0" subdirectory was created and all files were moved to yet another subdirectory. By time I was done all my files were safely stored in /sdcard/0/0/0/.
Also be aware that the Clockworkmod directory is one of those moved and Clockworkmod Recovery may not be able to find your nandroid backup in the new directory if you decide to restore. I haven't tried the latest version of CWM, but it was a problem on the six week old version I had installed.
It took me a few minutes to figure out what was going on and am hoping to save someone else the trouble.
Edit: Installed the latest version (as of 12/17) of CWM and it.too was unable to find my nandroid backup once it was moved to the /sdcard/0 directory by the 4.2 installation process. To restore my old rom I had to do a clean install, then install ES file Explorer, move the clockworkmod directory to /sdcard/ and THEN restore.

You need to upgrade your recovery to the latest cwm or twrp. The issue has been fixed since 11/16

Its not "this ROM" its all 4.2 ROMs that do it. And the way to prevent the /0/0/0/0 is by updating your recovery to the latest CWM or TWRP.
the new multi user in 4.2.x moves all your internal data to /data/media/0 for the main device owner. And if you create another user you will see /1 for the second user and so on for however many users you add.
So on 4.2.x ROMs you will have one /0 and it needs to be like that, if you move all your data to /data/media you will have issues. The /0 is a must and is the way of the future.
Having said that I will say it again. If you haven't already you really need to update your recovery.
Also on the note of gapps you must use the gapps specifically for 4.2 not 4.1.1 if you don't use 4.2 gapps you will have gapps fc like crazy
The slider in the Quicksettings menu for brightness is very laggy. Volume seems fine though. Also, my battery meter in Quicksettings sometimes says 0%, even though I'm at 97%.

The version of gapps I installed was 4.2 downloaded from the OP. I also tried a 4.2 gapps downloaded from another link so I was probably just missing a step somewhere or had a bad rom download, I'll try again tomorrow.
I do not believe I suggested that there was anything wrong with this or any other 4.2 rom (and certainly did not mean to suggest anything of the sort), only that there are important changes to be aware of when moving from 4.1 to 4.2 and back.
Thanks, will give it a try.

Yep..dirty flashed rom an reflashed gapps. All running well so far.
Unless instructed otherwise from eos4 nightly to nightly a dirty flash is fine.
Also the latest update fixes ALOT of the third party apps FC'ing.
So put firefox, kindle, and many more on the problem squashed list.
Anybody having issues using the latest nightlys with custom kernels? I tried using Franco's kernel and I am unable to install paid apps with it. I get the USB storage error.

Google Services Framework Fix (step by step instructions)This will fix Play Store issuesMAKE A NAND BACKUP OF YOUR NON WORKING ROM
Code:
STEP 1: Restore a working backup (one you know play store worked on)
STEP 2: Download a windows android file browser (I recommend Android Comander)
STEP 3: Connect your device to your PC, Open the android file browser
STEP 4: Browse to /data/data and locate "com.google.android.gsf"
STEP 5: Copy the folder from STEP 4 to your sdcard (remember this location)
STEP 6: Restore your non working ROM from in recovery, Reboot
STEP 7: using a root explorer (or the windows android browser) locate the folder from STEP 5
STEP 8: Copy the folder from STEP 5 into /data/data make sure you choose to overwrite the folder and files
STEP 9: Reboot (You must reboot first, do not immediately try to open play store)
STEP 10: Once rebooted test Play Store, Google Plus and Hangouts all should work fine.
I realize this seems like a daunting task just to fix the Play Store,
but there is no easier way at this point to accomplish this the Google account MUST exist before restoring this folder
in order for the fix to work.

Everything appears to be working great, though I am still on the new Hboot, so it's more likely to work fine. :silly: I'm running it with the stock kernel, but what are the benefits of an unsecured boot.img?

Insecure boot image lets you use adb remount, and adb push or adb pull etc. to /system and its contents.
also the included boot image has init.d support, sdcard performance tweaks and evitareul_common tweaks. so you will get better performance when streaming large video files or playing music from your /data/media folder
great but 1 bug
Flashed the rom and everything is working, except Google search. Every time I use voice search I get Google search has stopped. Super smooth though. Great work.

SEE POST #4 FOR CONTRIBUTOR AND TEST GROUP INFO
PLEASE BE AWARE-- THIS ROM IS NOT BASED ON OFFICIAL SAMSUNG FILES, IT IS BASED ON A RUNNING CM11 CYANOGENMOD SYSTEM.
AND WHILE THIS IS VERY GOOD, CM11 IS NOT 100% READY FOR OUR DEVICES, ALSO ANY SAMSUNG SPECIFIC FEATURES (MULTIWINDOW, PEN WINDOW, SHEALTH, ect) WILL NOT WORK (THOUGH I WILL ATTEMPT TO INCLUDE ALTERNATES), AND WHILE IT IS PRETTY STABLE, AT THIS TIME THERE WILL BE SOME MINOR BUGS. AS CM11 CHANGES THOSE WILL BE REDUCED. IF YOU NEED ABSOLUTE STABILITY AND EXCELLENT BATTERY LIFE PLEASE USE A TOUCHWIZ ROM BASED ON THE OFFICIAL mj4 UPDATE>
for a slightly better look at what touchwiz is vs what cm11 (aosp) is check out a few of these links.

http://www.androidauthority.com/touchwiz-better-than-stock-android-215634/
I AM NOT TRYING TO SAY cm11 ISNT VERY GOOD. I LIKE IT QUITE A BIT.
or i wouldnt have gone through the effort of making this.
just that touchwiz is more than the launcher it is actually a whole set of files built directly into the system specifically designed for our devices.
MANY of the apps that come stock on the note 3 rely on these files to function.
and no its not as easy as just copying them over to cm11 based roms.
CM11 is more of a vanilla android experience (with some mods)
PLEASE READ POST #3 CAREFULLY.
THE INSTALL PROCEDURE FOR THIS ROM MAY BE A BIT DIFFERENT THEN WHAT YOU'RE USED TO.
MY TOUCHWIZ BASED ROMS
**BE SURE TO CHECK OUT MININ3.MINIMUS FOR A FULLY DEBLOATED, MORE STOCK EXPERIENCE**
**BE SURE TO CHECK OUT MININ3.MAXIMUS FOR A TOUCHWIZ BASED EXTREMELY STABLE CUSTOM EXPERIENCE**

ROM OS Version: 4.4.x KitKat
Based On: Cyanogenmod , AOSP
Version Information
Status: Testing
Current Beta Version: 1.0
Beta Release Date: 2014-01-14
Created 2014-01-15
Last Updated 2014-01-15
NO KERNEL INCLUDED>
MUST INSTALL OVER A CM11 BASED BUILD
which will have the kernel and a full system this rom only changes and adds features for cm11 builds
STEP ONE:
install a cm11 build tested over this one here...
thank @noobnl for his hard work bringing us a working cm
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2599669
i used:NEW NEW NEW BUILD from that thread.
there is now an official build page for the note 3 cm builds here.
latest official builds can be found here
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=hltespr
Reports are it also works very well with VANIR based roms
http://www.emccann.net/nuclearmistake/VanirAOSPNightlies/hltespr/
STEP TWO GET THIS FILE:
DOWNLOAD
VERSION 1.0 ALPHA SOME MINOR BUGS (CM11 is not 100% yet)
(if downloading from phone gives a bin file download with a pc, should be.zip)
INCLUDES ALL NECESSARY GAPPS AND OTHER NEEDED FILES!
Built on top of cm11 for multiple reasons, (my upload bandwith is horrible right now, cm11 is getting constant updates, this will make things easier on me at least until everything gets worked out) (should also work UNTESTED on other cm11 builds/roms for the sprint note 3)
Install instructions
FOR THIS VERSION AT THE MOMENT CWM RECOVERY IS NOT SUPPORTED
cwm lacks the fix permissions script needed to ensure certain data settings remain intact
future versions will improve on this, however for now use TWRP
Install notes for test version 1 (this will change dramatically with upcomming versions)
FIRST (ESPECIALLY IF COMING FROM 4.3)
wipe everything in recovery except internal and external sd
(wipe>advanced)
reboot into recovery (IMPORTANT)
then install from there.
install cm11 first
boot to system
This is an update add on to cm11 based roms
flash update reboot (to write data to system)
flash update again, fix permissions, (edits data after a boot)
reboot
(i have been working on a much improved install procedure that should ensure a one step install,
the reason for editing data is to pre-set some app settings
without having to edit individual apk files, this increases
compatibility and ensures things still work as intended as apps get updated)
open pie control give admin
open wanam press update install (to force admin)
will need to open a few other apps also will list as found
future versions should take care of this automagically.
can use hide apps to hide unwanted apps from the launcher (this will also be preset in the future)
i usually use it to hide all the wanam modules and not the xposed installer.
then use xposed installer , modules to edit settings as needed.
also can hide anything else you want to leave installed but not see.
these apps may need root enabled (just open and try and change something) should prompt..
Xposed installer
Pie control
startup manager (if wanted)
texdroider dpi (if wanted)
file manager
xhalo floating windows (wanam module)
app hider (to hide apps optional)
also there are some included themes under the settings menu themes.
ignore the warning and just press apply, (stock cm11, blackout, twstyle)
may also want to uncheck and recheck all the wanam modules and reboot after to be sure they all actually get set.
ADVANCED USERS/USERS WANTING TO USE THIS ON TOP OF ANOTHER CM11 BUILD
STILL READ ABOVE NOTES>
Dirty flash on top of any running cm11 system should be fine (unconfirmed)
NOT WIPING DATA SHOULD BE FINE ALSO IF YOU ARE ALREADY ON A 4.4 BUILD.
DO THIS:
flash update reboot (to write data to system)
flash update again, fix permissions, (edits data after a boot)
reboot

Would we be able to downgrade back to 4.3 without any issues or do we need to do something special in order to do that?
You're on fire MJ

I have had no issues going back to 4.3
both by install of a mj4 rom or by recovering a backup,
though i do recommend ..
wipe everything but internal and external sd
reboot recovery
then install whatever you want from there.
upload almost done...
everyone who posts in this thread by the time it finishes will get a test link by pm
everyone on the minin3 project test group will also get an email.
once some confirmation of no horrible issues will also post public download
file done pms and emails coming
