[Q] Wifi keeps switching back and forth from router to range extender - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I am using a WIFi VDSL router and 1 range extender setup in my apartment.
The problem is:
all my Android devices (all on JB 4.1+) keep on switching from router to RE all the time and practically you cannot use internet on them (especially streaming stuff like YouTube etc.). They just can't stick to one device even in a room where router or RE has full coverage and other signal is very week.
Windows devices do not seem to be affected by this problem that much.
I tried using "best WiFi" app but it did no good, my semi educated guess is: it's problem with protocol implementation on Android?
But can anything be done about it? Any of you had same problems and resolved them?

[Q] Archos 101 Wifi

The wifi on my 101 keeps dropping frequently. I know its not my router, as I have 2 laptops, a desktop, 2 nexus one's, and google tv all running without problem on the wifi in the same locations as I've tried the 101.
It seems to drop every time it comes out of sleep and then every few minutes even while using the device. Tried spare parts, but still no success.
Any thoughts?
known problem with 2.0.54
We have to wait for next firmware release
Its to do with the encryption and security, using WEP or none and it works fine.
I have never dropped WiFi with WPA/WPA2 PSK.
Same. I'm using WPA2. Check out with wifi analyzer (from market) or similar apks if your wifi is using the same overlapping channel with others around you and ensure your signal strength is not too weak to the device.
May need to tweak the signal strength on your router to make it stronger otherwise, and change the channel to a free channel..

[Q] Flaky WIFI alternative solutions?

Hi,
I've tried disabling WIFI powermode (which I do everytime I reboot), but my wifi seems pretty flaky. Speed is great, but it sometimes disconnects (not THAT often).
I have two APs, both set on same channel / SSIDs etc. Looking at wifi analyzer, it seems like the phone doesn't really handle switching between APs very well.
Is there a kernel or mod that would help with that? Or perhaps a better way to set my APs? (DD-WRT and Tomato, all 2.4G). Should I try the modems or is that just for cell network performance?
Especially annoying when using Talkatone or Skype to phone someone and then it drops in the middle of a call.
Thank you!
Setting to AP's within range of each other to the same frequency is asking for trouble.
Having them both broadcast the same SSID more so.
The kernel handles Wifi-related stuff, modem is only for cell communication.
Wifi has no handover protocol such as 2G/3G/4G does, so you'll stay connected to an AP until you loose the connection and then reconnect through the whole connection protocol (including Handshake, Authentication, DHCP, ...) on the next one. So it's a pretty bad protocol for moving around with a constant data stream.
I was under the impression I HAD to have them use the same SSID since this AP is there to extend the range of my home wifi (as per: dd-wrt WAP website I can't post link to since I'm a noob), I'll try setting them to channels 1&11 see if it gets better...
I had issues at work. But not at home.
Today I told it to forget my B/G radio and to connect to the N radio. No disconnects, none..
No changes made to the phone at all..

[Q] Phone (?) wifi crashing home router

Hi guys, I've been having trouble with my home router since i got a smartphone (xperia active).
I've had my current router for over two years, have the desktop wired to it and a laptop which uses wireless, and never had any particular issues. Eversince my phone got on the wireless network this causes the router to lockup in random and unpredictable ways. I've done a lot of searching on the web and found tons of people reporting wireless issues using multiple devices on home network, especially with tablets (KF in particular) but none gives a solution to the problem. The router is running fw from a USR9108, i never had problems with friends coming over for lan sessions or general browsing and never skipped a beat with up to 4 devices connected at the same time (no smartphones).
Since the phone came along i've been suffering from random wireless lockups, sometimes 3 in a day, sometimes once in a week, which require a hard reboot to get internet access back (once wifi is gone also eth loses connectivity)
Desktop (eth) + phone = no problem
Desktop (eth) + laptop (wifi) = no problem
Laptop + phone = wireless lockup
I tried switching wifi channel, giving the laptop and pc a static ip and making custom routing tables, i have removed anything which could cause overload of requests, double checked all dhcp settings, but all to no avail. After browsing a while leds on the router become static and the wireless one turns off. I've read somewhere it might be related to ipv6...
Has anyone got some suggestions I could try out before trashing the router for another one (with no gurantee this will solve the problem?)
Thanks for any advice
Try flashing your router using OpenWrt, DdWrt, Tomato or similar firmware, if your vendors software is buggy.

Z2 wifi slow

Having problems with Wifi streaming and YouTube very slow, stop and start every few seconds, got to be the phone as all my other devices stream fine. I have unchecked avoid poor connections in wifi advanced.
Any one else having this problem, will try factory reset.
UK sim free 14w18, firmware 55

I've seen factory resets cure a few problems on here so try that 1st but isn't there a .69 firmware available now as well, maybe try that to?

Good old factory reset and it's working fine.....hasn't. Worked
EDIT.......wifi speeds are slow again, can't watch YouTube or stream films, it's only on this device, ipad 2, galaxy s3 and s2 all stream with no problems.
Can't download the 6 free promo films either as download fails after a short while.

My facebook app is not working great in my phone. Youtube has been fine so far but I find my internet quite slow at home as I have rubbish internet speed. Also in peak times I get very slow internet connection.
Wifi speed still slow, only on this device,
Also is the . 69 firmware carrier specific?
No firmware update prompt on my phone.
no option for 5GHz in wifi advanced menu

A couple of things to try:
* test with other access points
* restarting the router
* disconnecting other devices
* forgetting the network on the z2 and readding it
I actually got great wifi speeds with my z2. It was even able to max out a 100 Mbps cable broadband connection on an AC router. Worked fine in n-mode also.

Have you tested on any other networks?
Take a trip to Starbucks! See if you get any better speeds there (and a nice latte, damn I'd kill for one right now).
glas to see im not the only one. Google Play Store @ 0.02mb/s
What kind of router do you have and how far is it? I'm able to maintain 2-3MB/s (16-24Mbit/s) over a distance of 20 feet with walls and everything in between.
After getting my phone last Tuesday ive noticed this little bug as well, sometimes downloading/updating google play apps it'll be like 0.5MB/sec but usually when I use drop down menu and quick settings and turn off wifi(give it about 10/20secs) then reactivate it im back to around 8-14Mb/sec, some apps dont even show a download progress its that fast lol.
I believe it might be a 5Ghz wifi problem as my BT hub shows my phone connecting to 5GHz channel with no way to stop it apart from turning 5Ghz off at the router :/
So hopefully sony will either fix bug or give us more wifi options like already mentioned so we can make phone connect to what we want.
K stand corrected phone can/does switch between 2.4Ghz/5Ghz, router shows phone connected at 2.4Ghz now. Just updated an app while connected on 2.4Ghz and no problem.
Z2 D6503 Wifi dropping issues
I seem to be getting the same sort of wifi issues as previously stated. I cannot hold a wifi connection on the 2.4ghz band fro more than 20s before its dissociated (ie i still have full connection to the router (3 bars) but cannot get through to the internet). This happens no matter what router i am connected to, whether its at home or at work.
I have tried:
Setting the Wifi optimization checkbox off. No difference
Avoid poor connections is off. No difference.
Stamina mode is off. No difference.
Keep Wifi on during sleep is set to Always. No difference.
Sleep timeout to 30mins. No difference.
I have factory reset the phone. No difference.
I have also check to see if it is my router at home. I have switched between every channel available which made no difference. Security is Wpa/Wpa2 PSK AES which makes no difference. I only have the 2.4ghz available on that router at home (same at work).
My Note 3 and HTC One connect to both routers with no problems at all and do not drop out. Same goes with Sony Vaio Laptop.
I have installed Wifi Fixer on my Z2 to see if it can alleviate the problem and it does somewhat. instead of manually having to turn on and off the wifi toggle to reestablish a connection, the Wifi Fixer does it for me.Approx. every 20-30s in its log it will show the phone "dissociating" from the router, and the the app tries to "reassociate" the connection.
I can connect through wifi transfer to my Note 3 without issue, and the same goes for my TV, so it cant be a hardware fault, as the connection is still excellent strength for both (as well as the router, tested with Wifi Analyzer). This is a very frustrating problem as it makes watching youtube movies impossible, and hotspotting, skype calls, etc.....
And dont even get me started on the bluetooth dropouts. I am disconnected from a bluetooth connection every 66-70s without fail no matter what i try. No issues with my Note 3 and HTC One in the exact same conditions. It will disconnect then reconnect straight away with a delay of about 3 seconds, which makes calls and listening to music a VERY unpleasant experience.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I love everything else on this phone but this wifi/bluetooth connection issue is making it unusable.
connecting to my bt home hub 4 via 5GHz band only has solved my wifi drop out problems.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
For me slow Wifi resulted in many issues, You-tube video cannot be played, video streaming from a network storage cannot be done, Facebook videos will stop at the middle etc where the most evident issues. I tried everything possible to resolve this issues and searching the internet also didn't help. Finally decided to fresh install, used PC companion and re-installed the complete software, then restored all apps using google backup service. After this there is no issue till now. The software version is the same I had before reinstall. But now the Video streaming and apps using internet become very responsive.
thanks

[Q] Connection issues

Hey everyone, I got myself a Z2 recently and have been very happy about it for the most part. However, some things seem to not function a 100% the way it's supposed to.
Some times after it's been to sleep and I try browsing online with it using either 3g/4g or wifi the phone says it has a connection, but nothing loads. All I have to do to solve this is to refresh the wifi/3g connection manually, and then it works. It's rather annoying to always go through that procedure every time I want to use my phone, so I'm wondering is there anything I can do about this? Or anyone experienced anything similar?
Vegard
I have the same issue with WiFi while the phone sleeps or is active (no probs with mobile data though!), but I was not able to determine whether it's my router, the phone, or a combination of the two (though I have a hunch).
When I'm in my room which is unfortunately the farthest from the router, and the connection drops, my Z2 is not able to reconnect on its own. Have to disable/enable WiFi or else it's stuck in an infinite loop of connecting and obtaining an IP.
Now, I'm fine with a dropping connection occasionally given the distance and the... quality of my router. However, my laptop is able to reconnect automatically.
I have tried lots of possible solutions: WiFi sleep policy, static IP or DHCP, disabling/enabling WiFi optimisation or Auto-IP, switching WiFi channels, and various WiFi fixer apps. Nothing worked.
My guess? There is a bug in the stock firmware that makes the phone unable to reconnect if a connection is forcibly dropped . Pair this with a crappy router and you have a recipe for inconvenience.
Unfortunately, I have no spare router to confirm this, and with the bugs in CyanogenMod I am reluctant to flash for now.
Also, I am sure this is not a hardware fault of the phone in my case since I notice this behaviour at home in my network only.
Do you guys possibly know where I could find some logs related WiFi? I wanna get to the bottom of this.
