[q] dual sim function - Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro

dear owners,
i'm planning to get this phone but i have a question need to ask. can sim #2 connect to 3g network? read specs say cannot but some review say can. i'm confused. i have a sim that can connect to 3g network only. i can't put on sim #1 because i will use sim #1 for data.
thank you all.

Both sim card slots can connect to 3g, but one at once.

You can use ur both sim card in 3g mode but only one sim card can be used in 3g mode at a time. That means if u use 2nd slot as 3g then u have to connect ur 1st slot as 2g and vice versa..

[Q] How to unlock SIM (free) for Japanese Motorola Photon (AU-Kddi)

Hi,
I am wondering that is it possible to do sim unlock for Japanese Motorola Photon (Au-Kddi)?
I am looking for free option (I know that by paying for unlock code, we can do it)
I want following:
I am having Motorola Photon (Japanese version simlock) and I want to use it in India (GSM carrier)
Please help to unlock sim( without paying any money.)
Looking forward to hear from experts.
Thanks.
If you are using your phone outside of the United States you should already be sim unlocked.

Thanks John for your kind reply.
I purchased motorola photon in JAPAN. When I got photon, it was without sim card (carrier Au-Kddi CDMA).
So, I am not sure even it is sim lock or not. (but I think that it must be locked version)
I am planning to use it in India (not in US)
Could you confirm following:
(1) Do I need to unlock it to use it in India with GSM operator?
Looking forward to see your positive response.
Thanks.
As far as I know, the sim lock only applies to US carriers. But, if you're able, try putting a prepaid sim card, or one from a friend's phone in your device and see. You may have to go into settings to take it off of cdma only. I think that if your phone works with any sim card at all, that you'll be able to use it in India. Good luck!

John, your Japanese is good. I am really impressed!!!
As you know that in Japan all cellular service providers are CDMA. So, for me it is difficult to check with GSM sim (because I dont have any GSM sim for testing )
Further more according to my understanding, in Japan all phones come with sim lock. i.e. if I am user of 'Au-Kddi' then I cannot use same hand set with 'Softbank'. (I guess that it is same case as US)
May you provide me some other work around to make sure that photon will work with any GSM provider?
どうもありがとうございました. (Dōmo arigatōgozaima****a.)

Thanks Suhas.
I checked your suggestion. I have attached screen shot. (Pl see attachment)
I got four options as following
(1) KDDI only -> it is my current CDMA service provider
(2) Any CDMA -> I tried this option and inserted another service provider CDMA sim card but after booting, phone is asking for unlock code. if I will choose dismiss button then it will not allow to use phone. (Only SoS service is available)
(3) Any GSM/UMTS -> It gives error that insert sim card. current phone donot have any sim card and if i will insert card then situation becomes same as above mentioned case 2. (Only SoS calls)
(4) Automatic -> same as case3.
My question:
Currently, I dont have GSM sim card. So, I want to try option 2. I want to try another service provider(CDMA) sim card
Please let me know how to solve this problem?
Thanks
PS: scrren-shot is attached.

CDMA doesn't use SIM cards... or do they in Japan? only GSM uses sim cards. you will need a GSM sim to test GSM. no way around it with the stock OS that i'm aware of. so buy a GSM sim.

[Q] No Data On Galaxy GT-I9152

There are APN threads about the other Mega phones but not this one.

APNs are carrier specific not phone specific so they are all appropriate for any data enabled phone.
I finally searched for AT&T 3g APN's on Google. It works now, but my phone shows Edge connection. It sucks!

Hey sholsten,
Coming into this conversation a bit late, but thought I'd drop a recommendation (you may have already checked this) - if this is like other dual sim phones, a lot of them have one SIM slot that supports the highest data capability of the phone (3G in this case) and the other SIM slot does only 2G. Could it be your SIM is in the 2G only one?
Would love to know if this resolves the issue, I'm looking at this phone for my Dad who is on AT&T in the US. Thanks
Only one sim can use wcdma/3g the other will be on 2g/gsm.
Any of the 2 sim can use the 3g network, be it your primary or secondary sim, using it for more than 3 months now and very happy with it.

How does Dual Sim work?

Hey guys
Before hitting buy on one of these, can someone please explain to me how dual sim works? Preferably with some screenshots. This is going to be my first dual-sim phone
I understand dual sim dual standby, in that both sims can use 3G/4G but only one at a time. Do you decide which SIM is the main active one for data in software?
Thanks
Ive got the prime
I can choose Internet from sim 1 and call from sim 2

No 4g connection

Hello, I just got p9000 yesterday and i updated to latest release. But I can't seem to get 4g connectivity nowhere even though it supports LTE in my area. So does anyone have fix for this.
Swap the SIM slots and put the SIM card in the other slot just for testing purposes.
Do you have a data connection in general? So you get edge and 3G but only LTE is not possible?

It depends on the variant you have. Most don't have two full modems for it.
You need to check calling your SIM 2 number from SIM 1 and vice versa.

You can use one sim for 3g/4g and the other works on 2g only..
Feel free to ask whatever information you need.

Nope, you can just go to settings>dual sim settings and change your other sim to perform 4g/3g and the first one to perform 2g. If I remember correctly, you don't even need a restart.
It just takes 4,5 secs and you are good to use 4g on the second sim.
