[Q] ROOT exploit GT-A9500 Android 4.2.0 MT6589-C920-EN-V08 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings,
I have bought one cheep smartphone from china for my sister (the last two quite expensive smartphones stopped working after "diving and free falling course" . So I decied to buy for her some cheeper device. It is an Android and it looks like an samsung, but it is this phone http://www.antelife.com/htm-a9500-s...tft-screen-256mb-256mb-dual-camera-white.html .
After Avast installation a found in the system app which has root rights (It is not possible to uninstall it), which was marked as an Trojan ( Android: Agent-AXY [Trj] ). It is probably UI app, which imitate Samsung UI ( CooeeUI launcher (version iLoongS4vHD2.1.0.10.11138.130628 ).
I tried to root it using framaroot (On my phone framaroot was working well), but app displayed a notice with message "It is probably not possible to root this device with framaroot" or something like that and the app closed itself.
I found one other sw on this page (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2403230&page=3 ), but I'm worry to try it after reading the last post because of malware infection risk (I really don't want to send somewhere to China IMEI and whatever else...).
Here I write some details about SW and HW of the phone:
Model: GT-A9500
Core version: GT-A9500 Quad-Core ( :fingers-crossed: )
Software version: MT6589-C920-EN-V08
Hardware version: C920-V1.02
Could I ask somebody for help? Is there any exploit for this phone or any other possibility to root it? I would need kick this china apps off this phone.

Is there any way to remove infected UI launcher without root rights?

I may be able to help you get it rooted. Search play store for SRT Appscanner and install it. Then run app and see if either bug listed says vulnerable.

Ok. Thank's a lot. I'll do it on thursday. I have no access to the device now (because the owner is away).

Hopsin4444: I know that this device has not Quad-Core CPU. And in Europe works quite well. How did you root this device? Could you send me any link, where can I download exploit for rooting this phone?

Yes it is most likely possible then. Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2442491
It is directions for rooting the Sero 7 Lite but the directions will work for your device. (Except for part in beginning about accepting any updates, you can ignore that part)

Trying Cydia Impactor
I successfully installed SnapPea and connected the phone to my computer with Win 7. Then I started Cydia Impactor - after selecting "drop ... SU" and pressing the start button I see "Testing #9950697". It is quite long time and nothing happend (about 10 mintes) How long should it take? Shall I wait more time?

Open a command prompt in the folder you have ADB.exe in and check to see if ADB is seeing your device. ( do this by opening the folder adb.exe is located in then press and hold shift key and right click on the white space at bottom of folder, then select "open command prompt here". Type:
adb devices
in to the black command prompt and hit enter, see if it shows a device listed under Devices attached.) It shouldnt take more than a minute to complete so I would say make sure USB debugging is on and make sure the PC can see the phone via adb since that is what Impactor uses to root the phone (like lost other root exploits too actually)
Also - you need to leave Snap pea window open for adb to work, I dont know why but even though it installs adb driver for you, you need to leave the snap pea window open or it wont see phone in adb.
Hope this helps!

USB debugging is checked and I leave Snap pea window open. If I try to close it, connection with the phone get lost and Cydia Impactor display an error message. If I leave the Snad pea open, C Impactor works, but after more than 10 minutes I see still only Testing #.... Is there some chance to root this chineese **** od should I use it as an hammer?

Impactor should work. I would say it is a connection issue. Did the device show up under devices attached when you ran adb devices command?
If you still have trouble getting it to work, you can try this method:

This is output from cmd adb devices. It means, that the phone is connected? No other device is connected, so I expected, that the number 19761202 represents the phone I want to root. But the C Impactor still do nothing. I check HW manager in Win 7 and I see ADT drivers OK, but phone drivers looks strange, but Snap Pea is working. I don't understand...

Need Help rooting

Hi everyone,
I am really sorry for opening a post so silly like this, but I just cant do this alone. I am having some problems rooting my LG P500.
The main problem is: I have NO idea wich room to choosse. I though about the "CosmIcEXperia". I also found one called "Z4Root" BUT someone told me that will not work because my smartphone haves the official 2.3.3. I also heard one called "CyanogenMod". But i am not sure wich one is the best.
I wanted one so I could overclock it a bit (to 700 maybe), so mainly for Games(since atm I cant aford a new phone).
Would you guys give a hand to this poor noob?
Cheers

It'll now run RATC
When it says: Starting ADB Server...
Turn USB Debugging OFF
Turn USB Debugging ON
Turn USB Debugging OFF
All BEFORE it says "Waiting for device..." again"
I also did this but I still get that crazy "waiting for device msg on the 7# part :/
*thanks pressed hehe*
OH YES!!! the funny part is that i hear a "tana" sound before going to the 7# hmmm but I tryed with diferent cables so... hmm

Right, i belive i was able to solve the problem by using the MSbox programm (and some lines).
Now to the rom! I choossed this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354
(Mik´s CyanogenMod 7)
But I have a question...
"1. Mount /system in recovery.
2. adb shell rm -rf /system/*
You get 1 error. This is ok.
Will update if I found this bug."
What does he mean with "recovery" ? Is that when we turn off the cellphone and he says on that "safe mode" ? Its a bit hard to understand
1. If you want to understand the terms like 'recovery' and several others you will encounter then read up the dictionary thread.
2. The procedure to install custom roms can be found here.
PS: Both the above linked threads are stickies, they are always on the top of the general thread, if you had read them once you would have had all the information required.

You should have better searched for it before starting a new thread.........
As i posted previously in same thread as this, before starting exploit, you have to run some commands in ADB, as you are on 2.3.3 and then run superone click.
Its a long process. Follow this post on my blog for details, i am sure it'll work for you------http://ayushandroidworld.blogspot.com/2011/11/how-to-root-lg-p500-with-gingerbread.html?m=1

This kinda sucks. I am rebooting on recovery mod but when I see the "android image with an arrow coming out of an box" the searching bar stops 5 seconds after it starts and my cellphone reboots and it "autoinstalls" the official firmware again :| hmm (using Rom Man. to install the reboot option).
Gona try and install a custom one
I've got the same problem with my phone ... There is an error in step 7 with superoneclick ... I don't know why, i've trying a long time ...

Try what I did :O
Download this: THIS!
You also need the drivers for the USB, get them here: HERE!
1° on your phone to go settings>applications>developer and activate debugging mode
2° extract root.rar and put it on your deskptop
3° Go to the ADB folder and run "cmd7.exe" (for windows 7) and the other one for xp(if you are using xp...).
4° On the CMD windows write :
adb devices
(then...)
adb shell
(then copy this, dont be scared if you see something like an "#" or "$")
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
5° After this reboot your cellphone. Now go to theroot folder and start the superoneclick program and SELECT Gingerbreak and press the root buttom (if you have the 2.3.3 version like i had )
Then you need to wait and TANA!! It should be done
P.s.: All the files have there own owners, they take all the credit lol
Back to my problem... I tryed again using the ADB thingy etc, and I cant do it It says its read only hmm :/
UPDATE.
And I have it working lol :3 ...
It was a "line" problem, i had to write something else bla bla bla... Thank you everyone for the help

ADB Problem

I have followed the guide, did the edit to the android_winusb.ini and the 0x54c in the adb_usb.ini but I still can't get it to show up as a device when I type adb devices (did restart ADB via adb kill-server after editing the files)
It took me awhile to change the driver for Win 7 recognise it as "Android Composite ADB Interface". I had to use
Code:
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_054C&PID_05B4
otherwise it kept saying it couldn't find a compatible driver
Model is SGPT112GB/S
Any ideas?
try this "Auto-Installer". In most cases it has helped.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488822
Tried it already, didn't appear to work, plus as I ran ADB with it, it said it was out of date
Go into System Devices whilst the Tab is connected via USB, delete and uninstall the device there and the re-install. Thats what i'd to do because the first time I installed it I missed the ox54c bit and it only half installed.
Tried that, adb still doesn't list any devices :/ ADB definitely works as it picks up my phone (X10 mini pro) when I plug that in
Some pictures can help, adb manager, device manager and probably de ini file.

Before it was showing up under Portable Devices. So I followed the instructions to Update the driver and point to the inf file, but it kept saying couldn't find a compatible driver, so I went into the properties for it and checked the Hardware ID, and it wasn't the same as it said in the guide so I changed it in the inf file, once that was done, I was able to update the driver.

As stated in my automated installer, you need TWO devices to show up:
If you're not getting the portable device, you need the MTP driver.
Uninstall both devices and reinstall the drivers or manually force an update on them.
Which OS are you running?
Win 7 64bit, either it shows up under portable devices or under Android phone. Not both. Ive tried your installer but it still doesn't work :/ This probably sounds stupid but if i uninstall, to install again just replug the tablet back in right and do the driver update thing? If not, then maybe thats where im going wrong :S
Update: Ok uninstalled, tried your installer. Now only shows under portable

When you uninstall, did you check the box that says "Delete the driver software..."
Is USB debugging checked on your tablet? You have to have two items in Device Manager. One is to transfer files (MPT/Sony Tablet S under Portable Devices) and the other under an Android heading (ADB).
If you're plugging in the tablet with USB Debugging checked and nothing's showing up, something's wrong with your system. At the very least, you should get an unknown device. Go to "View" and check "Show hidden devices" and check to see if anything's there. Try another USB port.
Bottom line: you need both items.
I followed your video exactly, USB debugging is enabled.
As soon as I plug the tablet in, it looks for new software. It then says successfully installed and pops up with the auto play options. Under devices it shows up under "Portable Devices". If I do the Update Driver, choose the .inf file, it installs but then it no longer shows up under Portable Devices but instead I have the "Android Phone" category with the Composite ADB Interface.
When uninstalling, it only comes up with the checkbox asking delete driver software when I uninstall the ADB Interface one, not the tablet under "Portable Devices"
I have done "Show hidden devices" all that changes is it shows a category called "Non-Plug and Play Drivers"
Confuserr, Im in the exact same position - and on win 7 x64.
Ive done both SDK install and Automated, nothing works.
I never could update the usb drivers though as windows decides the one I have is perfectly good - will try your little trick.
As soon as i get it to work ill post here, just wanted you to know that your not alone in this..

And a second later it works atleast in the device manager.
I did the USB driver install according to the guide in the root thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487020, now unistalled the drivers (2 times) and installed again pointing to the correct location (android/extras/usb_drivers/)
Ran the latest version of the exploit from above thread and done, successfully rooted - now i just need to figure out what to do with my new rights (except taking away social feed reader and speed it up a bit)

I can only assume the problem lies in the fact that the ADB guide Sony posted http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C1024692

I don't think it is your region. I cannot get adb to recognize my tab either and I am in the US (not region related). The strange thing is, I was able to ROOT... I also noticed, that while the ROOT tool was running, adb recognized my device. So, when the ROOT tool paused and was awaiting for me to press any key, I decided to mess around with a few codes to see what happened. I input:
Code:
su
mount -o remount rw /system
cp /system/build.prop /sdcard
busybox /sbin/sh
reboot
Everything worked as it should have. While the tab was rebooting, I shout down the ROOT tool, and after the tab rebooted, everything seems to be working as it should.
I have NO CLUE what the hell was going on. But, it works now and that is all that matters to me... Now on to perfect the custom recovery...
UPDATE
I figured it out! It's something with windows. For some reason, it is not starting the adb server... Here is the solution:
In command prompt type (cd to the directory where your adb.exe is):
Code:
adb kill-server
then press enter
Then type:
Code:
adb start-server
then press enter
Then you can go ahead and type:
Code:
adb shell
then press enter
And now you are on your way!

[ROOT][WIN] GUI Tool for rooting the Motorola RAZR

This is my first attempt at creating something for users on xda, so be gentle .
Eternityproject has released a fine script for rooting our Motorola RAZR phones on the 4.0.4 update. As a windows-user that used to use batch scripts for everything I could not help but want some more output than just the [rebooting] echo's that the script print on the screen. As a bonus I thought it would be nice to see how long the script will take before my phone is rooted. I have made these wishes into an application, and pedrotorresfilho kindly allowed me to use their script in my application.
So what does it do?
It roots your Motorola RAZR and shows you what the script originally did. It also calculates how long your phone takes to reboot, and shows you how much time you have to get a nice cup of [insert drink here]. Or soda if you prefer that. In theory it is possible to root multiple phones at the same time, which saves time if you have to root 10 RAZRs at once (LOL... as if).
How does one use it?
- Install the program using Microsoft's Awesome ClickOnce distibution system
- Install the Motorola Drivers (Download MotoHelper from here)
- Enable 'Unknown Sources' (on your phone: go to settings, go to security, tick the box next to 'Unknown Sources') (needed to install supersu.apk)
- Enable 'USB Debugging' (on your phone: go to settings, go to developer options, tick the box next to USB Debugging) (needed to communicate with your phone over USB)
- When connecting your phone, please set the USB Mode to 'Media Sync - MTP', to be sure that mounting points won't interfere with the rooting process.
When the application is opened all the connected Android devices will be selected. This means that as soon as you press the 'Root' button, they will be rooted.
In principle the application does nothing more or less than the script. You don't have to have extensive knowledge of adb or android internals, it's just an app that shows the connected devices and a root button . If you are already rooted, it's easy to unroot using SuperSU.

Added a splash screen to indicate that the application is actually loading
Changed the location where the splash as well as the credits/welcome screen appear
1.0.0.5:
added credits for Chainfires SuperSU and su
Removed the message that rooting was not successful
Added a few more messages about the script itself (in the script output)
Updated SuperSU and binary to 0.94 (su binary still says it needs to be updated )
1.0.0.4:
The application now properly disposes of the AndroidLib instance, disabled the CheckedItem event on the DeviceList because it was a tad buggy. This won't harm anyone.

I have sent you a dm .
Can you try with this root method. It's simpler.
http://dev.crackflasher.com/ROOT_TOOLS/razrs_edge_windows.zip
For guys already rooted that wanna test it, first unroot your phone:
Run SuperSU app and press 'full unroot'. If you have superuser app also installed remove it first.
Cheers

Hmm... I will have a look at this. What are your reasons for using this except that it's simple? It's just a matter of preference, right?

Well, I tested the 2 versions ( I got a notification to update your tool ).
It is working great but the installer is strange, ( I had all requirements but for people which don't, it's not great ).
SuperSu and binary are not latest version. And I get at the end a message who say " the phone does not seem to have root" but I had root

Yeah, the installer should be extra user friendly. I should probably just advice users to use the .application link. But the link will only work if .NET client profile is already installed. I'll adjust the message about root, It seems that the library that I use does not query root status from the phone, but rather from it's cache. Maybe I have to update the phone data before querying for root. Thanks for your feedback!
Edit: I am now uploading version 1.0.0.5, I added credits for Chainfires SuperSU, removed the message about the rooting. Too bad my connection is bad (3G in the mountains in La Palma) so bear with me while the updated version is uploaded. Should be up within about 10 minutes, users that already have the application installed will asked to update to the latest version.

1. Installed and executed (had to confirm the download since google chrome didn't allow setup.exe files to be directly donwloaded)
2. Upon start it updated.
3. First run the app didn't recognized my connected Razr after changing USB to Media Device - MTP and enable USB debug.
3. Closed and reopened the app and it recognized and root went fine.
Notes: Application said to 'Refresh' when ADB has being enable, but theresn't a Refresh button.
Really nice!

The refresh button is the button next to root . I'll put a tooltip on that button. Glad to hear all is fine. I'm uploading 1.0.0.5 to polish out the small annoyances and update SuperSU. Thank you so much for testing .
Edit: 1.0.0.5 is out . The download link is now public. Please leave suggestions and improvements in this topic or send me a DM. Thanks!

Possible to root the new Acer liquid Z3 (maybe with SuperOneClick) ?

It runs the new android 4.2 jelly bean.
Thanks for your help guys
Hi, like you I'd like to know if this mobile could be rooted... ?
Anyone ?
---------- Post added at 09:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:11 PM ----------
I think it's posssible with SRSRoot
See : http://www.srsroot.com/supported and look for Acer Z130 (that the model name of the Z3)
Root done on my ACER Liquid Z3 with SRSRoot.
The more difficult was to install ADB driver for the phone on Win 7 64 bits.
I found a solution here : http://gizbeat.com/1273/pdanet-adb-auto-driver-for-windows/ (source XDA forums here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39247281)
Possibly yes.
Not sure. But probably it would have one as it's predecessor can be rooted. Even I would like to have an answer for this query by someone, expert in that.

Well I talked to fast, I have a problem because my apps don't recognize the phone is rooted.
I have the Superuser app in the list, no problem.
But when I launch Titanium Backup for example, it says it doesnt gave the root rights so it can't start.
Same with other apps...
I rooted the phone with SRS
Thanks for any kind help
Well even if I have SuperUser app in the list, I checked with "Root checker" and it says my phone is not rooted....
So now I have to uninstall superuser app( unroot?) and re-root the phone with another tool than SRS, probably with the one suggested kornjung

I managed to route my Acer Liquid Z3 on the second go. If you have used SRS and failed first unroot it using SRS so it thinks its not rooted.
Then select "Smart Root".
When prompted on your phone select "SuRoot" from the drop down list. Not the default.
Then select Bromir (which was the only option that I got on mine).
Using these I was successfully able to root the Z3 and then go in and delete all the crap like Facebook.apk, etc.
What I cannot figure out is how to take a damn screenshot!

Has anyone tried to overclock the cpu on this phone? Noticed any improvements?
does this work for the dual sim version, too?
and, in case, does this phone have a call filter/black list system embedded? so to block calls from specific people, or maybe block them only on one sim and not the other... or, having root thanks to the instructions in this thread, do call filter apps on playstore work? in general alternative dialers and call filter apps are very badly working on dual sim phones...
z3 duo rooted with framaroot 1.6.1... enabled usb debug ad per previous posts in this thread, and enabled unknown sources in settings, security... installed apk, opened, clicked boromir, rebooted and device rooted... no need to install driver or connect to pc AT ALL... as soon as reconnected to network, updated supersu via play store, and installed titanium... just integrated 14 updates in rom, i'm happy

Did you overclock the processor to 1.2Ghz to get that 9757 score in Antutu? Mine does not get any higher than 8834 on stock clock (1Ghz).

No. I have not over clocked. I just cleared all junk that starts up background processes, and ran Antutu on the default clock speed.

Acer Z130 Sound Quality and Loudness
Is there anyway to improve Z130's sound quality and loudness?
Despite being a device with DTS logo on it, it produces the worst audio I have ever experienced. (Both with DTS on and off.)
Is there any way to improve it?
Framaroot
I just rooted my Liquid Z3 with Framaroot last night. It works perfectly.. :good:

Route to ROOT an unkonw AndroidTV Devices Technicolor DWI259S/UIW4020ETI (Sapphire)

Hi guys, I'm here to learn something about Android Security System.
I have this Sapphire TV BOX
model: DWI259S / UIW4020ETI / UIW4020ETI2 (Sapphire)
SoC: Broadcom BCM7271
The goal of this post is to understand how I can gain root access on this device
I know how to turn it in recovery mode .
if you are interested you can read this Reddit post from ams_sharif
"You can boot to recovery by switching the unit off ( the black button in the back), then while holding the power button (the one on the side, next to the pair button) turn the set top box on until the recovery shows up."
This is what I see.

I tried to flash an update.zip in order to see if I can execute command through any script, but the verification of the signature fails.
I tried to click on "Apply update from USB" (that is adb sideload) , but connecting the tv box on the pc nothing happen, no device found neither with "adb devices"
I tried also to click on "Reboot to bootloader" but "fastboot devices" command return nod devices connected.
My idea was to read the recovery image from fastboot extract it and try to compile my own TWRP
Do you have any suggestions to guide me in the right way?
@element14
When you enter
Code:
adb devices
and don't see an entry listed under the “List of devices” section, then your device isn't connected to PC.
Same is case when you enter
Code:
fastboot devices
Recovery option "Apply update from USB" isn't equal to "adb sideload". This option assumes the Update.Zip you want to flash is located on USB-device connected with your TV box.
With regards to rooting your TV box you can try to flash Chainfire's SuperSu Pro.
BTW: TWRP isn't a recovery image you compile in order to flash, it's merely a touch-enabled replacement for device's Stock Recovery menu as shown by you

The TWRP is an open source project , all the source code is avaiable. But to have it works , you need the original kernel .
I tought , If I can unlock the bootloader I can read the image of the recvoery.img and from it extarct the kernel
Thanks for your answer.
@ element14
did you manage to make the device usebale?
Hello, i am also interested to reset\flash this device but I couldn't find any useful guide, did you manage to root it or flash it, I want to use it as android STB.
As long as you can establish an USB-connection ( read: ADB connection ) then you can root any device's Android OS, otherwise NOT.
Any updates on this topic? It would be great to know if someone was able to root it.
If this is the etisalat version of this box I have gotten APKs to work on it.

Going to apps list:
- insert usb
- click browse
- go up to internal storage, press ok, click Apps
part 1
- go to apps list, keep usb inserted
- scroll to Files, click it, click open
- if it opens skip to part 2
- else it will crash and show the first time boot
- go to apps list again while keeping usb inserted
- open files again
part 2
- connect a mouse to other USB port, navigate into the USB and into where you placed your APKs
- double click the apk to install it
- on first time install, it will show an error about unknown sources
- click settings on the prompt
- enable all sources shown
- continue installing the app

there's another on the bottom, or use a USB hub.
you can't play videos from USB without installing third party apps.
