Removing Ads? - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I have the hdx with advertisements and I was just wondering if anybody had found a way to remove them without root (because there is none right now).

While I was able to root my phone, there are people who either scared of rooting of there phone or do not even know what 'root' means. They just want to use their phone which is what the video was suppose to show.

Verizon VS990 root

I have been reading through lists of posts. Does anyone have an update to the possibility of root on the Verizon LG V10 VS990?
As it is Verizon, don't get your hopes up too much about getting root.
Anything is possible, but Verizon has a history of locking things down pretty tight.
I'm sure it's just a matter of time, doesn't make me want to get rid of the phone just because there isn't a root yet. The devs just need time to figure out the proper way to get root and then from there I'm sure that an unlocked recovery will be next.

That's what I'm using for right now, seems to be doing the job.
I'm using adbl0ck (yes, that's a zero, www.adbl0ck.com). It blocks ads in apps as well as browsers. It does run thru a VPN like adguard, but it uses a certificate to help with the ads in apps. Since it uses that cert, you have to have a secure lockscreen (which I hate) but if you set up a PIN, then you can use fingerprint to unlock. Also, its free, where adguard is $20 or whatever to get ads in apps blocked. It's working flawlessly so far and doesnt seem to have the wakelock problem that adguard has ATM.
I hope to all hell we can get root on this thing. I would give up unlocked bootloader/ROMS/kernels if i could get real ad blocking and bloatware removal. Fingers crossed.
Besides ad block, debloat, and titanium backup is there any major reason for "needing" root?
With Marshmallow "soon" does that need fall through the cracks?

Not in my opinion. You cant load kernels without an unlocked bootloader, so any custom ROM with just root is really just modified stock.
But as badass as M is, I would be perfectly happy with just root for those reasons above. I came from the Nexus 6, and with M, it still crushes the v10 (from a power user perspective), at least for now.

If they every come out with a tweakbox like the G3 and G4, then yes...I feel that until they start making Roms for the V10 that would slim it down even more or blocking OTA updates and either a ROM or tweak/app for the second screen to better customize the apps that you can use while the screen is off.

Strange, I use adbl0ck and don't have a secure lock screen. It's working fine here.

There's been very few unlocked bootloaders in the past few years. Android has made them impossible to crack, and exploits are harder and harder to find.

Don't think we're talking about an Android issue - certain carriers don't want their devices rooted and/or bootloader unlocked (VZW - ATT).

The main guy that used to crack them, now works for google. Not only have we lost the one doing most of the work, he now makes sure they are locked up tighter than a bulls ass at fly time.
What's the issue with root? Thought companies signed into CTIA Consumer Code for Wireless Service. Was this not the case being a law that was passed?

I've had my VS990 for 2 weeks and absolutely love it. It puts my Note 3 to shame. Hopefully rooting will happen.
If/When root comes to the VZ v10, someone will make a post about it.

com.tmobile.pr.adapt able to force Super SU to grant root access?

Is it possible for com.tmobile.pr.adapt to force Super SU to grant root access?
I noticed it got access and I dont remember ever allowing it. This happened after using Ti backup to uninstall T-Mo My Account.
I've since uninstalled the ctpa (for short) diagnosticware so the visible and immediate problem is gone.
But I'm afraid I tripped the root notification to T-Mo servers. I'm also scared that Super SU was somehow compromised.
Does anyone know more about this?
I have LG-H901 (T-Mobile V10), bootloader unlocked, rooted w/ TWRP and Super SU installed. Factory ROM has not been changed.
it shouldnt force su access, I used xposed and root cloak to hide it from asking for root
I made a copy of it with titanium back up and deleted it, no problems.
You didn't trip anything, don't worry.

I know it shouldnt but I'm suspicious that it did. I've heard that rootcloak doesnt do much of anything since it doesnt make Android Pay work and doesnt seem like I need it for this if I've deleted all the Tmobile stuff. Plus I dont have any other reason to install Xposed that I can think of for the V10, though I've used it on other phones for some cool features. Or is there something I'm missing?

Why not just used Ti Backup to uninstall the com.tmobile.pr.ddapt? Nothing to hide from then.

Just in case it is needed in the future for anything, or if something else messes up.
You always move or rename something and test a bit before deleting it.
It is just a good habit to have.

I realize that, but if you search the threads, all it does is report analytics / diagnostics / and modified systems to t-mobile, we've known this since the phone debuted 2 months ago. And if you are that concerned about system integrity, freezing it doesn't break dependencies, like both moving or removing would.

That is a good habit in general, but pointless in this case, as Adapt Client is a piece of spyware garbage. There is absolutely zero benefit to keeping it.

Some people may at one point want to accept an OTA update.
In that case you need an unmodified system with this garbage intact.
I agree that it is a useless piece of spyware garbage.
However there may still be a need for it for some people at some point.

Leaving crapware on your phone defeats the whole purpose of rooting, really, IMHO. If you can root, you can flash an .img file or a ZIP to update to the latest version. OTAs only make sense if you're stock, unrooted.

Lots of root threads - what's the skinny on root for the Verizon V10 with 6.0?

I bought my V10 last June and for the first time since my HTC EVO decided that I wouldn't root my phone. I have now come to the conclusion that I need root and after logging in to XDA (after almost a 1 year absence) I see that there's apparently no root for this phone.
Obviously I'm on Verizon - what are my choices for an alternative phone that is in the same class as the V10 but can be rooted? Or is a root solution for the V10 closer at hand?

Have you looked at this phone?
I have seen of temp root it works it doesn't work etc...
Partial root only...
Does not survive reboot etc...
But...is it enough root to use debloater to stop ota
Currently debloater does not have proper permissions or something
Does...
Temp root + debloater = no ota
Possibly or no chance

Yes if it upgrades to 7.1.1 which they do in the store... Buy it from Google
If I had twrp port it might be easy to root.. Doesn't seem to exist.. I asked for it already on another thread, but no email.. I'm going to reach out to friend on hangouts and see if he feel like making one. He doesn't have this device so I'm not sure if he's interested.. The theory is this simple.. " fastboot boot twrp.img." once booted into twrp, we can flash twrp. Had to do it for my g4 and it works.. Also, I've seen twrp on locked bootloaders so that shouldn't be an issue.. No one's mention anything about that method though..
I think this died. Not complaining but it's been quite a few months since it was announced root was coming.
Good thing I'm rooted on 5.1.1 still. Would love to see root for Marshmallow (or greater) though.
I think Verizon and their hardware vendors should be aware that I will not buy a product or service if I can't have a rooted phone.
Looks like a Google phone next go around, much I don't want to go that route.
Sorry LG; Sorry Samsung. You won't be selling me anything.
Feel my wrath and consumer power
I believe the LG V20 is rooted (or at least unlocked)...

how to root?

is there any method to root this device?
The device just came out. There is no root yet
at least you are smart enough to look here first. i've looked around on the internet and there is some ass hat who has tried to convince people to use ODIN to root their devices and got his friends to say yes this worked in the comments. so many people having troubles and the guy is pretending to "help" in the comments. for people who haven't fully bricked their device to ensure that they have. i mean i guess if you are dumb enough to think a device has a working hack a week after it came out then you are doing it to yourself
i'm sure with enough know how they can fix their phones but as it is they are stuck in a boot loop
lesson to the story: always check with a reputable source before you do something which can potentially soft-brick your multi-hundred/thousand/ and in some instances multi-thousand dollar device

You don't need root to use gcam. All the recent gcam development has been on the rootless variants. As for roms, there aren't any available yet, but now that these are starting to get into more people's hands it's only a matter of time.
