[Q]Htc One X+ (int) having a locked bootloader with S-OFF Rooting Confusion - HTC One X+

Hello ,,
I have got my self one of htc One X+ (international) with an Locked Bootloader and S-OFF. So I have just one small doubt which is preventing me in venturing further into rooting my device, and that is , since I have an S-OFF device I guess I have read and right permission on all the system partitions .. In that case do I need to unlock my bootloader from htcDev site. Secondly do I need to push my boot.img separately from FASTBOOT or will flashing it from the custom recovery will just do it ..
Please help me on this one .... .

better safe to do the htcdev IMO, some might disagree with that
2nd yes, you should be able to flash a rom just fine without flashing the boot.img

Thanks a Lot, LIoir for the quick reply, I am following your threads for quite some time.. I really appreciate your work and am really happy that this reply came from you .
Well with that reply one things that comes in mind is that if I try to flash a custom recovery from FASBOOT without doing the htcdev IMO , will that increase the chance of having a bricked HOX+.
One more thing I am not being able to find the download link for the latest unofficial CWR Recovery that you cook ,more over in many threads I found it's said that CWR is unsupported and outdated for HOX+ ,is there is truth to that or just bad publicity ...

CWM is in the PureAosp 4.4 download section on that thread, (you need to have the xda 2014 theme enabled to see the devdb) i do really need to move it out from there...
also i'll be quite honest, the last S-ON/OFF device i had was a desire....and that was a few years ago....so i can't remember properly...the end of the day, doing fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
won't brick or damage the device if it's for the correct model. the ONLY way you will brick you're device, is if you try and do stupid crap, like flashing a HTC ONE kernel on the X+
Enjoy

Unlocked Evo 3d and ICS Update...when it arrives lol

Hi, i have unlocked my Evo 3D using HTCDEV.com. I was wondering if it will be ok and safe to do the ICS OTA update when it arrives? Also could someone please advise me on my next steps to root my Evo 3D so i can use custom roms etc. All i have managed to do is up to yet is unlock my handset using HTCDEV.com, but i am unsure what further steps i need to take to root my device as there are so many different view and topics on the subject and it all gets a little confusing as what to do next. My HBoot is 1.49.0018, and i really dont know what to do next, so could someone be so kind as to advice on what further steps are required.........Thank-you for any help offered.
You might already have done this but just to make sure.
Did you flash a recovery.img?
I wouldn't bother, there will undoubtedly be a pre-rooted, cwm flashable version available within a day of the update landing.

Don't know if it will update the hboot but I suggest you downgrade and s-off it, if there is any method available for gsm...
And to flash a ROM, you don't need to be rooted. Just flash a custom recovery.img like 4ext, twrp, cwm. Then flash any ROM that you like. Almost every ROM here comes with super user. So after flashing a custom ROM made by a Dev , you will be rooted. If you want to root your stock ROM and don't want to flash custom roms for now, just flash a custom recovery first, then go to recovery flash this zip if you want SuperSU by Chainfire----------> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
OR
this one if you want Superuser by ChainsDD---->

The second one might not work...
@iTzLOLtrain......I haven't flashed a recovery.img as of yet because i am unsure of the software to use buddy. If you could advise on which software you think is the best then i am more than keen to have a shot. This is my first time ever with android and i am really scared of 'bricking' my handset. I was under the impression if i wanted to install custom roms that i would have to root my device first?
@mnomaanw......Hi bud, i have tried the links you posted but i just get a 404 page not found error.........Cheers

Oops sorry....should work now.
Next step is to flash a custom recovery like 4ext which has no issues at all and then flash your su file this is how you obtain root access after this you flash a custom Rom

Ahhhh, I remember my first time. Do an awful lot of searching and reading. Once you feel like you can't get anymore info on a subject, then try it. You may have an issue, which most people on here will help u with when ask. If you came from that fruity company, you should be very happy with what Mr. Android and his developers can do.

Unlocked S-ON and confused

Hi everyone, I feel very sorry for this question, I am a noob and not so well in Androis system and I get so confused on all the instruction that I've read on the discussion.
My question is this, I really dont know if I can flash custom ROM such as CoolFlyer or Leedroid ROM for my HTC Flyer WIFI, My HTC Flyer is
unlocked already but still S-ON, with HBOOT 1.11.0011, and it has also a Revolutionary CWM v.4.0.1.4. It is also in Stock Honeycomb ROM
Actually I paid only some Technician to root my phone and I gain S-ON Unlocked, the problem is he did'nt rollback it into Gingerbread thats why I am not sure on how will I installed custom ROM like CoolFlyer.
.3 or
Can someone to inform me how can i make it S-OFF, and if im S-ON still can I flash Custom ROM like Leedroid HC V.4.3 or Cool 3dHoney v.6?
Thanks and really appreciated your help.
Just follow the guides here in the Flyer Android Development forum
My honest opinion is that you should roll back to gb and gain s off. Anyone you paid should of done so. You can flash roms from your current state but it requiresyou to learn how to use fastboot commands

Pretty much. Though you'll need to manually flash the boot.img file from the ROM after every installation, or the system won't boot and you'll be stuck on HTC logo screen, and of course a custom recovery to be able to flash ROMs

s-off is not yet possible I think.
You can unlock your bootloader and root your HOX+ with HTCDev.
Before you do anything you need to read and understand first what needs to be done. S-Off is not possible now.
Before you do anything, make sure the phone is fully charged.
First you have to unlock the bootloader via www.HTCDev.com Be aware that the internal SD Card is wiped, so backup any music/photos/files you want to keep.
Then you need to install one of the recoveries available for the X+ and make a backup of your stock ROM (the one your X+ is shipped with).
Then you can either just root your stock ROM, or install a Custom ROM which normally are rooted. Custom ROMs are ATM only for the intl. One X+ available. The AT&T version of the One X+ will get them soon!
Because of the S-Off issue it is necessary that the boot.img of the ROM you want to install has to be flashed seperately in fastboot mode.
You access the hboot/fastboot screen by power off your phone, then after a short while press Vol (-) and Power button together and hold them until you see the white screen with the hboot/fastboot screen.
Please start reading here which explains how to unlock your X+. That tutorial is for the HTC One X but basically the same.
Please be aware that you need for the One X+ this recovery or this which are both installed via Fastboot.
After you made sure to do a backup, you can install a custom ROM via the recovery.

Have to second this part.
All I needed at this point was free tethering on ATT.
After using hasoon2000's tool, I was able to follow the instructions in the Q&A area for how bypass ATT for tethering.
It just puts the stock ROM back in, which is a good ROM.
Won't bother to flash it until folks come up with stable ROMS's that have extra tweaks I want

bwt, I heard that boot.img can't be flashed in s-on status. is it right?
(I saw the message "S-ON devices can't flash boot.img in recovery, so you need to flash it manually")
How do i flash it 'MANUALLY'?

[Q] Question about Bump

Hello,
[Okay i'm going to be quite honest, i might sound like an idiot on my post haha.] I just got my LG G3 and i've already root'd and got twrp and everything but i just saw a thread about bump and "Unlocking your LG G3" and having to do with Bump. I'm curious does that mean you can unlock your phones sim?? lol i might sound like an idiot or does it mean that we can now flash roms from lets say the GSM model of the G3 or roms from the Verizon model etc. This isn't a troll post i'm just that stupid lol. Anyways if someone can help me get a better understanding of this Bump software.
Does it mean unlocked bootloader? omg lol im an idiot..
Well as of right now there is no bootloader unlock. Bump is just a modified version of twrp for our device. The normal twrp from the twrp website works fine its mostly on prefrence. Before we had offical twrp we had to bump but now you can use either.
Sorry but can you explain what a bootloader is and why its important? Sorry for being stupid ?
No problem! (I have no problem with helping if you want you can PM me)
a bootloader is code that is executed before any Operating System starts to run. Boot loaders are basically packages that have instructions to boot the operating system kernel.
Bootloader are bad because it makes it much much much hard to run custom roms (custom os) and kernels. That is why we have bump it pretty much goes around the face that the bootloader is locked. If someone got ours unlocked then you can make roms a lot easier.
One a nexus for example once you unlock the bootloader you can install custom roms such as cm. Since ours is locked devs have to make the rom then they have to go and "bump" it that way the bootloader doesn't get flagged and brick itself.
Alrightthanks for clarifying that. I didnt know that the LG G3's bootloader was still locked, i guess thats why i see alot of rom threads being closed for the G3
Maybe if we (ls990 users) made a bounty someone may "find" a way to unlock our bootloader

To be clear, "normal" TWRP works fine because it has been "bumped." Without Bump there would be no way to load a non-stock recovery.
Bump, while not a true bootloader unlock , is a work-around that provides pretty much the same benefits. Without it, you would not be able to flash any custom recovery, and without a custom recovery you'd be unable to flash any custom ROMs.
Thank you for more clarification

How to root (with links) is explained on my thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432
Also, much of the "HTC specific" lingo is explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52484527
I would suggest reading up (and making sure you understand all the terms and processes) for at least a couple hours before trying anything on the phone. I do this every time I buy a new device, even having own quite a few HTC phones. In fact, I usually start reading and researching before I have the phone in hand.
.
also is there a way were i can go back to stock when i need to thanks

If your talking about ROM, then take a full backup of your ROM before flashing custom ROM using titanium/nandroid etc.
Or if your talking about root,
Just unroot using unroot apps from play store or the respected app you get after rooting.

As the above reply stated, it depends on what you are talking about.
If you just want the stock ROM, recovery, etc. one option is to relock the bootloader and just run the RUU. It will return you to stock software. The only thing not "stock" will be the bootloader will say RELOCKED instead of LOCKED. You need s-off to make it say LOCKED again (after unlocking it).
?

You should be good to go, then. Just unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery and flash the Skydragon ROM you linked.

You can return to stock with a RELOCKED bootloader with s-on.
You do need s-off if you want to make the bootloader say LOCKED as it was from the factory. But the only reason to ever do this is for warranty purposes. And if you bought the phone from AT&T, you should note that your warranty is through AT&T, not HTC. And AT&T doesn't give a crap if the bootloader is unlocked, or whatever (folks have even successfully sent in phones for warranty with custom ROMs on them).
If you are seeing warranty service through HTC (you didn't purchase from AT&T) that is another story. But that is the only reason I'd bother going back to LOCKED.
In normal usage, I recommend leaving the bootloader UNLOCKED as it give you more flexibility to flash ROMs whenever you want, etc. The only reason IMO to relock the bootloader in normal usage is to run the RUU.
S-off is nice have if you want to flash radios, modified hboots, and some other things (you also don't need to relock to RUU with s-off). It certainly doesn't hurt, and some folks like to make the phone as customizable as possible right away. In fact, I did s-off to the phone the second day I had it (although s-off was free back then). But for you, its not strictly "needed" at this time unless you want to do the things mentioned.
so heres the thing again sorry for the manny questions i am just making sure if i do this everything will work so heres the thing the rom i linked if i were to flash it will my at&t sevice work since it would be a different baseband

The baseband isn't determined by the ROM, its determined by flashing a different baseband/radio (which requires s-off).
There are some folks that have had issues on AT&T's LTE network using some custom ROMs. Namely, not receiving or sending voice calls while on LTE. But this seems somewhat random, and not the ROMs fault per se; but probably changes that AT&T is making to their network. The most you can do is flash the Skydragon ROM, and if you have problems, try another ROM or revert to stock.
Make a backup of your stock ROM with TWRP before you flash anything, to be sure you have something to revert to if you have problems. This is good general advice before you flash any custom ROMs, root mods, etc.
I'm using the ROM your linked (Skydragon Sense 7) on AT&T, and it works fine for me.
