[RECOVERY UNLOCKED] TWRP 2.6.3.1 for Android 4.4 [2013-11-19] - Moto X Android Development

ATTENTION: I will be stopping official Safestrap support on 9/1/2014. For more information please see:
https://plus.google.com/111109372727398356624/posts/AtoJ3xLj35b
This is an updated build of TWRP 2.6.3.1 for the Moto X to be used w/ an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER.
CHANGES:
- Full support for Motorola's f2fs changes in android 4.4. (This requires a new patch to TWRP which will be on review shortly)
- Backlight fixed
If you're on the previous TWRP 2.6.3 build and using the Motorola 4.4 update, it's highly recommended that you upgrade your TWRP as there are issues w/ filesystem corruption on the /userdata partition.
TO INSTALL:
Download twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img
Then go into bootloader mode and use the following fastboot command (you need the Motorola fastboot binary for this)
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img
I tested this on the SuperSU.zip w/o issue (previously it was causing reboots, and general ickyness).
Let me know how it works for you.

Fantastic! Great work Hash!
Followed the procedure step by step and can confirm this version of TWRP works flawlessly on my VZW Dev edition

Once again you come through with the rescue. Thanks!

Major thanks for this! Quick question, is this "Motorola fastboot binary" the same thing as the mfastboot file that's been posted numerous times on these forums that also allows us to flash the system.img without the file size too big error?

No problem

I know this is probably a stupid question, but what do we do with the mfastboot binary? Where do I put it? And is it something I need to flash? Thanks in advance!

Yes you should, when you go into TWRP the first time, and the go to reboot it will ask you if you want to root. I just did it about 5 mins ago and it worked like a charm!

Thanks Hashcode..needed this!

Appreciate it Hash.
Dumb question. Never had to mess with a mfastboot binary. All I've ever had to do was fastboot flash recovery.
What am I missing?

Thx so much, it works like a charm, just a question, can be used to restore a nandroid made for android 4.2.2?

Thanks hashcode, works like a charm.

No...tried this from a 4.4 ROM I found on rootzwiki for my US Cellular build XT1055. Totally forgot to backup my stock with this latest recovery but had one with old. Anyway, tried to restore to that 4.2.2 backup and ended in bootloops. Could have been recovery issue though...not sure. Either way, FXZ'd and fine. Thanks Hashcode...ur work is legendary around this forum!

Thank you Hashcode! Rooted the 4.4 Tmob leak and did a fresh backup. No problems.

Thanks Hashcode, worked like a charm and its great to be rooted again. One question, the first app I download after achieving root is Titanium Backup but it seems to not work at all. When you click on it it tells you that Titanium Backup has stopped. Is this a play store app issue or something else?

TiBu does not work with ART, I am guessing that is your problem right there. I unfortunately found out the same thing when I tried to use TiBu, so I'm back to Davlik until a fix

[RECOVERY] CWM 6 Alpha Touch recovery

Koush is giving the world access to his buildbot to test out the new version of CWM. So I decided to give it a whirl. Offers incremental backups making them much smaller and faster.

*please note that I know that I am NOT a real dev. I just figured out how to run his buildbot and got it working on my phone.
Build Details
Download Recovery
*usual disclaimer that I am not responsible for you bricking your phone*
To install
1. Download file to your computer
2. In command line, navigate to the folder you have the recovery
3. Reboot phone into fastboot
4. "fastboot flash recovery recovery-CWM-6.0.0.0-ruby.img"
5. "fastboot reboot"
6. Reboot Phone into recovery as normal
Anyone test it as yet other than you? Would be cool to see this in action, good post, many of those who wanted CWM will love you for it, lol.
As far as I could tel I was the first to build a ruby version. I just pulled the 5.0.2.8 CWM and used that as a base and had it build a touch version. I tried getting it to use the stock recovery but the only one I could find was from the all-in-one toolkit and it built, but the recovery had trouble mounting points so I didn't upload it here.
I've always been a fan of CWM but that's prolly mostly because that's what I familiar with. I've used it since my G1.
So it can flash kernels???
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
It was built off of 5.0.2.8 so I would have to guess that you would have to be S-OFF to flash kernels. I am S-OFF and am the only one I know of running it.
Why is it only able to flash ics roms?

This is based off of Koush's new 6.0 CWM. It has incremental backups instead of the doing the entire ROM each time. That is the biggest advantage to me.

FINALLY, A FRICKING RECOVERY THAT JUST WORKS.
Jesus, I tried every recovery I could find.
I'm not mentally impaired, so I do understand (and preffer) to use fastboot, and all other recoveries either required a download of an app to do the work for you or they just plain wouldn't boot (I'm looking at you, EXT4 touch binary...)
Plus it's well documented and it's a real developer friendly recovery, not so user oriented. I love it.

or you can just flash the 4EXT recovery image from my toolkit. That is another way. 4EXT wants the app installed so it can tell you about updates and let it update by itself.

[CM 10.1][4/9/13] For LG E970 updated to 4.1.2 OTA

Your phone has to be updated to ATT 4.1.2 OTA, rooted and unlocked with FreeGee in order for this to work!
This CM10.1 ROM is essentially the same as in my other thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130639
but with minor modification to work on ATT LGOG updated to 4.1.2 OTA. 4.1.2 OTA is essential since it allows to boot mako (nexus 4) based kernels.
Do not flash kernels from N4 forums. You will hard brick your phone by flashing many of them!
The problem is is that many of them refer to partitions by number and the numbers are different between Nexus 4 and Optimus G so you will flash boot.img into rpm partition. Brick.
Even if you're lucky and installation script refer to partitions by name, the radio will not work and of cause you will not have ext sd, capacitive keys etc.
What works:
- External SD card
- Camera
- GPS
- NFC (don't install Google Wallet, it breaks NFC Server)
- Capacitive keys
- HDMI over MHL
- the usual stuff

Click to collapse
Known problems:
- CM 10.1 is still not released so it may have some bugs
- notification LED(power button) is not reliable
- you tell me
Click to collapse
Notes:
- Backup your EFS partitions before flashing any firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2161611
- Gapps are not included.
Gapps by BaNkS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857 work good for me.
Install what you use(Gmail, Maps etc) from Play Store.
- Since this is based on my N4 conversion ROM your phone will identify itself as Nexus 4.
- No modem is included in this ROM. 4.1.2 modem from AT&T update(you should have after installing 4.1.2 OTA) works with no issues so far, everything(LTE/GPS/sensors etc) is functional . Thanks g33k3r! : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2220048. It shows 'Maritime' when connected to AT&T network, just ignore this, I will look into it later.
- HDMI over MHL does not work in mirror mode (known N4 CM 10.1 bug) as of now: Media players and youtube play video to both phone screen and hdmi but regular apps output video to either phone screen or hdmi: after connecting MHL cable, turn screen off then on to switch to hdmi
- If you use faux123 kernel with my fixes I recommend to buy 'Faux123 Kernel Enhancement Project' from Play Store

Installation instructions:
If installing the ROM for the first time:
- boot into recovery.

- do 'wipe data/factory reset'
- install ROM zip
- install Gapps zip
- reboot
If upgrading to the new version of the ROM:
- boot into recovery.
- do a backup of your current rom/data !
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache
- install ROM zip
- install Gapps zip
- reboot
Optional:
- If NFC does not work for you, flash this in cwm: http://d-h.st/51v Flash it ONLY if NFC does not work for you!

This is restricted for those who actually got the OTA. It's not safe for people who flashed the AT&T 4.1.2 zip file that SnowLeopard produced, correct?

Flashing on top of non-OTA 4.1.2 should not hard-brick your phone, but the phone will not boot.

Correct. Everyone who flashes this must have OTA'd via Software Update. Flashing roms doesn't count since it relies on the JB trust zone partition. If you have not gotten JB officially via OTA from AT&T do not flash.
Looks like those of us on Straight Talk are SOL when it comes to all the new ROMs that are coming out since we can't get the OTA. Bummer.

Last time someone said "flashing should not hard-brick your phone", flashing said ROM started a down hill spiral that ended in hard brick. the death spiral was likely 90% user error, but it still happened.

Sorry, Work is frantic at moment so rarely here..
Do you have android sdk installed on your Windows computer? If yes, you can test the recovery you are trying by using fastboot, (fastboot boot recovery.img) if it works then there is a good chance that you have a rom that overwrites recovery when booting so even if Odin installs it ok it does not stick on rebooting....
You can extract the recovery image that you downloaded from droid basement from the tar.md5 file.
If you are ok with trying all that then we might be able to get you root by booting into cwm recovery through fastboot and flashing the root.zip from there, theory being when you reboot after that you will lose your custom recovery but have root...

Its fine! Its great to have the help! I would be fine doing all of that stuff. Do you think there would be a way for me to make a backup of the stock ROM so that I would be able to use this method to flash a different ROM like CM and then have a recovery and lots of goodies?
I would just need my hand held through the entire process honestly, I have no idea how to do that stuff but I'm pretty good at following directions lol.
I suppose you could use the adb "pull" command to save all the necessary partitions... Not sure of the possibility of possibly making a nandroid using the fastbooted recovery while you're in there... Never thought of it before and never tried it so you could become a pioneer...

Another thought is that if you succeed in getting root then you can delete the file responsible for overwriting recovery on your locked boatloader and you will then be free to install a recovery and it will stick... File is install-recovery.sh in system/etc
Our you could try unlocking boatloader but you'll lose everything on the tab...

I'm still a little noob at using the SDK. So I'm going to try this maybe next week when I get some free time. Is there an easy method to unlocking the bootloader? I don't mind doing it unless you think the other method would be easier. I appreciate the help!!

Hey there, I did a couple of searches and didn't find a thread to help me root my Verizon 4g 32Gb edition of the Galaxy tab 10.1. I was wondering if there is currently a method to root the tab on the latest OTA update? Or am I S.O.L.?

Kingo Root (installs SuperSU NOT SuperUser) worked like a charm for me! Once rooted I installed CWM recovery via Odin3 v1.85 (MUST have all Samsung Drivers installed. Get 'em Here &/or Here). No problems so far. Havent flashed a ROM yet.
EDIT: Kingo Root will get the drivers 4 you! Forgot

Twrp 2.8.1.0 or above needed for 5.0

Any dev want to take a crack at building 2.8.1.0 and above so we can flash a test 5.0 build. For the vs985
Why can it not be flashed with our current twrp build

Not working with current version don't have public details
I think it would have to come from the code fire team to have bump built into it
Nah we can bump ourself
Right. Anyone could bump anything via the Bump site, but we still need someone like DeesTroy to build a G3 or vs985 compatible TWRP 2.8.1.0 for bumping.
That's assumming bump-signing even works at all with 5...

Great news we found a recovery to work philz recovery.. More to come
Philz is Legit. Stoked to know this is coming!
Philz is out if needed
I'm not so sure TWRP 2.8.1.0 is needed. I have flashed 2 cm12 builds now on the original TWRP that the bump team released without issue.

Make that 3 builds. I did notice something odd during the flash though, it complained about not being able to mount a partition as the resource was busy. Still successfully flashed though. =)

Twrp 2.8.0.0 has worked just fine on every 5.0 ROM I've flashed. I've now tried 5 different ROMs (multiple builds on a few of them). I've also bounced back and forth between 5.0 and 4.4 ROMs and backups with no issues.
I have flashed ALL different versions of 5.0 on my G3 and no issues at ALL (using TWRP 2.8.0.0)

When you say "latest TWRP" what version are you talking about? 2.7.0.1? On their page only the google play version is supported. Thanks!

Its just a stock ROM. Mostly posted it so other devs could use it as well. As far as difference from the stock 4.4.2 Official, you wont see any difference.
When I release CleanROM you will see and feel the difference.

Very true! Atleast you are prepared for when I do release a 4.4.2 custom ROM.
IM still recovering from surgery so I hope in a few days to get nice de-bloated / optimized ROM out.
What would be the major differences between this stock rom you released and the clean rom? Bloat removal? Is there a Lollipop based rom in our future since I see that Lollipop is now available in some other parts of the world for this tablet.
Oh wow man! Thanks for this. Looking forward to CleanROM. Started my G2 with CleanROM and loved it. Thank you for giving this tablet some love!!
