Not to rub salt in a wound but you could have figured this from reading around a bit. Its very well documented around every efs related thread, tutorial, etc.

Using it as a wifi only pda? Deleting efs folder means no network connection ever again. If flashing a firmware later than EMGx doesn't help then a repair is required.

I am very sure there is a method to recover back emei. Idk why people always ask before searching. Just google it.
maybe this can help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918601

Restore IMEI

Hi All,
I don't usually post anything but I use XDA a lot as it has helped me in numerous ways...
I would like to ask if anyone can confirm that by doing the below I can re-enter my IMEI in my S3...
1. From Terminal Emulator type "su" to gain root permissions.
2. echo 'AT+EGMR=1,7,"Type your IMEI here"' >/dev/pttycmd1
3. Press enter and reboot.
Can anyone confirm?
On an S3? I doubt it very much indeed.

I have't done anything to the phone yet, I will flash a different ROM soon and from my research I find that once people flash a ROM their IMEI might change which then impairs the phone from connecting to a network.
I want to be prepared in case I need to restore my IMEI. I have read of way that you can back up the efs folder and this is something I am investigating.
But, I want to have a back up plan in case I need something more.
Do you know of the above process? I have seen you tube videos and it seems to work, although I am unaware if this will work on my Galaxy S3.
Can you or anybody else confirm if they know this process to have worked?
If you take a backup of your efs folder then you're covered for this problem

Very rare for you to lose your IMEI .
EFS backup should be all you need .

Not so rare. I loaded CM10 and when I was done, so was my IMEI. This should be preventable. Yes, I think I can recover because i have a copy of my NV_data.bin file, but doesn't seem like a very sporting thing to do to a person just because they loaded a firmware.

I said very rare from the thousands of flashes on XDA few lose IMEI and 99% of those are total noobs . Plus 99% of those that do lose IMEI have not bothered to read and learn but just blindly flashed with no backup of EFS .
Flashing firmware has never been risk free .

[Q]Corrupt IMEI no efs backup

Hi guys, well i managed to somehow ****up my efs folder and it now says no baseband and imei/imeid.
I have searched and searched for but closes thing i was able to find was using nv writer to write my old imei back onto my phone. The problem is when I *#7284# I have no option to choose DM + ADB + <cant remember other option> I only have PDA or MODEM option.
Please help,
GS3 I9305T with root access.

Can you try kTool?
K-tool does not work, which is why Prodigy got me to type a command line in the terminal which backed up my EFS folder manually. Now I have an EFS.IMG This is why i put up the THread Because I knew it was soon someone will be bound to stuff up there EFS.. Which is WHY WE ALL NEED TO BACK UP OUR EFS ASAP before we start modding
But as for recovery its hopeless? Can a box be used to restore the imei? Anyway i can write my imei using nvwriter after somehow solving the problem of not being able to put my phone into diagnostics mode?
Argh! I am going insane, this is looking like a one dear mistake!
I had the exact same problem. Tried MANY things, with no luck. If you got yours from Optus less than 30 days, they will give you a brand new replacement phone .
Try to install a stock rom like 4.0.4... that worked for me on a S1 with the same problem and fixed it!

I have the same issue although it happened to me when I flashed a rom to ROOT my device and I didn't back up the EFS, now it doesn't read the SIM/Network and my Baseband & IMEI are Unknown.
I have tried re-installing the stock firmware etc but still no success...
Anyone have any suggestions?? Or at least how I can update my device status back to normal a pose to 'Modified'.. This was I could maybe submit it through warranty repair.. I have tried to reset my binary count with triangle away (before unrooting) but no success as.. The only thing i've managed to be able to do is unroot my device..
Please help!
Thanks...:fingers-crossed:
if you dont mind about the reading , u can still use your phone flawlessly.. and try the trick "oh im not sure , oh i dont know" and get one replace or u will need jtag i guess.. or maybe ( not sure if it work ) get someone else backup efs and find a way to put your imei in and push it back to your device.. and then repeat same procedure with your original imei ... if u cant remember , take a look at your box.. well..i am just suggesting..not sure if it work...
to get rid of modified , go download sammy official release for your telco or country , flash it with odin but the binary counter remains... good luck to u..

Would a EFS pro backup.img be ok? or do you want the whole uncompressed folder?
EFS Pro img would be fine (i assume) it's a final shot before i ship it off.

I read last night that if you flash the original OTA over your phone it will re write your IMEI number and if Telstra's one is not out just use one from AT&T or Optus etc..
So you can make a back up of your EFS and go from there with re rooting and applying a new baked rom.
Either way if can work or it can not. i see no harm
Anyway here is the EFS taken' just now
you should never share your EFS folder with someone else. Due to the fact each imei is unique.

[Q] GT-I9300 EFS Folder empty / No IMEI

Hello,
i'm new here in this forum and my english isn't that good but i hope
that someone of you can help me
I bricked my S3 two weeks ago while using swapper 2 and flashing some roms...
after a while the efs folder couldnt be mounted E: failed to mount efs (invalid argument)
and hanging in a bootloop..
My biggest fault was that I have not a backup of the EFS folder. Only
an complete Backup with CWM. But that couldnt helped me.
After trying a lot of Roms I got my phone with the I9300XXALE9_I9300OJVALE9_TMC and GT-I9300_mx_20120329 pit back to boot
normally. Android Version is 4.0.4
The Problem is that the EFS Folder is completly empty and I havent an
IMEI, so no mobile connections. But Wlan worked at home.
By the way: When i try to restore the cwm backup it will hang in a bootloop again.
Is there any way to restore the IMEI / EFS without an Backup?
I red that some persons could restore it with an other stock rom?
I'm not sure which Stock-Rom (4.1.2 probably but which exactly) I need for my Phone.
I bought it at May/13 in Germany (I'm from germany).
Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 16GB White
with 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Stock Rom
Do you need some more informations?
And please dont tell me that I'm silly, i know it already
Hope you understand my problem and maybe can help.
Kind Regards
Justin

If you follow the restore to stock guides, you may be covered under warranty. Cost of repair is minimal.
You might want to check this method for not efs backed up people...

Hello again,
sorry i had no internet access the last days.
Everytime when i try to flash a 4.1.2 Rom I'm stucked in a bootloop again :/ I'm pretty sure that I've choosen the correct Firmware.
Do you know what the problem could be?
I've not given up trying to repair my phone
Maybe my issue could be solved when I flash back to FW which was installed before.
The latest firmware is the
PDA: I9300XXEMG4
CSC: I9300DBTEMG3
MODEM: I9300XXEMG4
(Yes i know about the new efs format)
but this isn't working too.
Do you know why why I'm not getting at least a default IMEI? My Imei is always null/null
I've read about NV-items_reader_writer and qpst. Could they help me?
Greetings

Read the sticky threads in general forum, flash a stock firmware with odin. Then take it to a repair centre, you won't be able to repair damage to the efs folder.

Did you flashed the rom for your country? If not, look for your IMEI and see if it is corrupted, maybe it is the problem but im not sure, cause i never experienced having such problem.

I never experienced such issue, but i have researched about the restoring process of the lost or corrupted IMEI. Do you have nandroid backup? If yes, restore your phone thru it. If you dont have any backups, try flashing to stock rom. If none of this works, it will be a lil bit complicated but there's still chance. They all say you have to backup the EMS folder before you can restore it if a problem with our imei occurs. Yet there was one solution i saw for recovering imei without the backup but it includes using the pc. I cant post the exact link right now cause im not yet at home. But you can search for it tho (it will appear easily). Im just telling you that there still a chance to fix it. Next time try to make nandroid backups and backup your IMEI first before flashing or changing something to your system, make it a must just a note: in our LG phones, as far as I know, we dont have the EFS folder(where imei rests) not like any android wherein they have that folder, but we can backup that imei thru an app LG BACKUP IMEI. Search for it, it will give you 3 .img files needed for restoration of imei and it contains of course the backedup imei.
If i helped, just press the thanks button for me and i really hope i helped you.
Cheers man.
