[Q] How to Transfer S-Notes - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Themes and Apps

I have sync'd my old S-Notes over to Google Drive AND Evernote. I can open them but how do I get them to show up withing the S-Note library? Can I fully convert them?

Been wondering this myself. Wasnt even sure that it would read the old S-Note notes as I saw it had different file format, old has .snb and new has .spd. But I will transfer my old notes right away and try it out.

Open S Note, click on "Recent Notes" to go to the list of all notes, hit menu button, select Import. It will convert from old format to new one.
In your case you can select from Google Drive. Or if you have already copied old notes to new tablet, select "My Files".

I took my old S notes and had them on an external card then using file app copied and then pasted them into the S note folder internal memory. Then I went to S Note and as I opened them they were converted. Also, I backed all those notes and I had many of them to my desk computer in case this goes wrong at some point. I really don't like the New S Note app as well as I did the old one. I didn't transfer the old format choices over. I like the old format style sheets color better. I wish they had a way to select the color of the note sheet? Is there a way and I haven't seen it. I was temped to give up on S Note and go to Lecture Notes.

I transfered all to Dropbox. Samsung's new file manager has the option to transfer files from there. I had to transfer one by one. They are automatically converted.

A very simple method is to install 'Dropsync' in both devices and adjust the settings in them for 2-way syncing. Old files are automatically converted by new s-note, and you can also view new s-notes using the old s-notes. The sync process is automatic.

when you are in the note, tap on the gear at the bottom and select background if you just want to change the color. You can also download different templates if you want something different from the default.

What format are your books? How are you trying to move them? via usb? dropbox?
Do you have an SD card installed? Without one, only 1GB is seen on your internal memory if you connect your noob to your pc with the usb cord (but then you can move it to anywhere else).
Install a file explorer program (file expert is a good free one, root explorer is too but it has the possibility of having you misclick and mess up permissions on system folders).
Books/anything else moved to your NT's internal memory via usb -> shows up in /media. Books that you want your nook's native book applications to see -> move them to /data/books. Books that you have on your sdcard -> will not be seen by your nook's ebook reader program but you can make any folder anywhere and put books in it.
I recommend using an sdcard and downloading a program called Coolreader (android market); it's the best ebook reader I've found on this platform. It has a ton of settings and lets you configure it entirely (font, spacing, layout, behavior, etc etc). It reads from .zip archives and supports quite a few formats. It won't see anything with DRM protection on it that hasn't been removed, nor will it see .lit or amazon's proprietary formats. Anything with DRM on it that you bought from a certain market (Kindle, Adobe DRM ebook stores, etc) will only be read in associated programs (until you remove the drm) :/ Calibre is a great program (on the pc-side) to convert between book formats and manage your library, as a side note (not related to drm removal).
if I kept them on on my SD card how would I get them to show up using the stock ebook reader? Also....what format can I use? I have them in .mobi and .opf
Since I am rooted I can access the other 15GB ... I tried using es filer explorer (enabling root) and trying to move them to the books folder but I still cant get them to show up using the google books...kindle app and the stock app on the tablet

For books on your SD card go to your Library application -> my files -> press memory card, and your books should be there (at least the ones in a format it sees/reads).
Stuff in /data/books will show up automatically on your shelves, I think. Stuff in /media books will need to be imported the same way as above: library -> my files -> books (just not clicking on memory card button).
The Nook's eReader will see: EPUB, PDF, DOC, TXT, DOCM, DOCX. Epub is a great thing to convert all your books to as it's widely supported and is the public domain standard (by the way). Other reader apps will see more formats. I think .opf is epub though no? Or rather it's .epub with extra metadata, so that should be seen right off the bat. If not, do try Calibre out. One click conversions to any formats, and previews of how it looks on that format.
I am so sorry to keep asking about this...I have tried putting them in the data/books but nothing showed up in my library. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Sorry if I keep asking stupid questions...just really want this to show up on my "shelf"
Try this:
Open library -> my stuff (upper right) -> find book (sd card) -> select book/long press book -> select add to shelf from pop out menu. It will ask you to make a shelf; you can edit and add shelves via the menu that pops up (create new shelf/add to favorites).
Does that work?
Putting them in /data/books adds it to the reader+reader's directory. I could have sworn there was a way to mass-autoadd things to the shelves (checking now).
edit: Ok, I can't get it to work except through actually adding it with the Library app Rebooting the device puts the books from my files -> add to shelves in the "book" tab however, but they do not automatically appear there if you close/restart the library app without rebooting the nook. Odd behavior. If you have a lot of books the library seemed very finger intensive.
I can't figure out how to mass-move anything inside the Library app either, and I'm not sure whether it has this capability either. Yeah, I quickly moved away to using a file explorer app + another reader, as you can see
Hi ...
Nook is unable to see/read .mobi and .opf. You must convert them to epub, using a free program called Calibre.
Or they are locked by the use of a DRM... again Calibre can help you.
Try to find an ebook is an "epub," reread slowly, Zmobie's excellent posts, then try again...
ok....so I can get them to show in "my shelf" if and only if keep it on my SD card. My goal is to keep my books on my nt and music movies and pics on my SD card because it is only an 8GB.
I have a John Grisham collection that I have in a folder labled "john grisham" Should I not put it in a folder and just put it in the data/books folder
Ok, there are a bunch of book directories on the internal memory: media/My Files/Books seems to be the only one that automatically shows up in the Library books section but ONLY if you reboot. Copy/move the books you want on the internal memory there, to have them show up in Library.
If you (or when I did anyway) add a book through the Library application it will add it to the shelves, if you pull it from an sd card, or the 1gb media/My Files/Books storage folder. I went and pasted a bunch of books to test this and the Library app only sees things that is labeled as user storage (which I guess makes sense).
The way to mass-add books to the Library, without one by one dragging and adding through the Library app itself, is to move the files you want to automatically load up in Library (under the "books tab" - won't be added to a shelf automatically) is to copy all of them into media/My Files/Books, and restart the nook. The restart is needed as there doesn't seem to be a way to force it to scan for new books without a restart :/.
So:
It should *definitely* see all your books if you move them to media/my files/books, under the "books" tab, NOT under "my stuff" tab, if you copy and reboot the nook. You can then add them to shelves from the main "books" tab (which is what Library starts up in).
I don't know whether it scans inside folders - it *should* so you should try moving your John Grisham folder to media/My Files/books and see.
(I wonder what the three other /books locations are for :/. I don't seem to force Library to automatically recognize stuff in them. The reader does recognize anything in those directories, but then it's just a folder listing anyway).
edit: Ok it works inside folders for me. Have fun!
Thank you so much! Now if can figure out how to make folders on my desktop I will be good to go.....thank you so much
Calibre also works great for the Mac

On the Nook default launcher you can't, I think*? It's a reason I use another launcher (go/adw) and just create links to the Nook applications I use. You can make folders by default in either of the two above launchers.
*If anyone has managed this, do tell.
not to get off topic but when I try to add a folder...long press on the screen and select folder and nothing happens

In Go launcher? HMMM. *tries*
edit: Oh, that's funny. You're right! I never actually make folders that way, because I have a few folders I got from accidentally dragging an icon onto another icons. They get grouped into a folder automatically I assumed the normal way worked, but if not, try that.
It doesn't work in any of the launchers. It must be disabled on the nook entirely in that case. Weird!
I wasn't able to drop appear together with ads to make a folder so I switched to go launcher and I like it so much better. It it what I use on my roped droid x2. I don't know if it was my hacked downloaded version of adw that caused this but for some reason I could not put anything on the top 1 inch or so of the screen. But I have had no issues with GO.
Sorry to keep asking newborn queriins. This is my first tablet. I have noticed that even though it is rooted and has an android os on it, there are still a lot of things that canny be done. I have not been able to download a facebook apk I have also had issues with the xda app. When I log in the app force closes. Not a big deal...I have then been going to the website. With that in mind....is there a way to put web page short cuts on the droidtop......
Again...sorry for the newborn questions and thank you again for your help

Yep, there are a lot of things disabled on the NT and won't work until apps get updated or mods are released for the tablet. It's a new (and restricted) device, so this is normal really; various things won't work off the bat. I think there is a Facebook app thread in these forums (or the dev forum) that gets that app to work somehow. I don't use it so I don't know specifics.
I heard that ADW launchers recent update changed/broke some things, so that might be why it isn't working perfectly. I use go launcher myself and ADW only for emergencies currently, yeah. Anyway, no worries on asking newbie questions - means the device is getting more users and exposure! Have fun with it.

Block images from Gallery?

Is there a way to block certain folders from showing their images in the Gallery app? I love mClock and the skins for it have image files. So whenever I open the gallery app it shows all the images for mClock and just clutters up the gallery. Is there a way to block this?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
If you make a file called .nomedia and put it in the folder you want to block it should block it. Just a blank file, starts with a period, all lowercase. This is respected by many apps, but not all. Official google ones should respect it though.
Here's how...
t0ska said:
Old thread but here is a no Computer needed option:
Download ES File explorer (its free)
Install and open it
Navigate to the folder you want to exclude (remember it propagates down e.g. if you place it in the root of SD then the whole of SD is excluded including all the sub-folders)
Press Menu and select "new"
Select "File"
Call it .nomedia
Rescan your memory Cards
Sorted no PC required
Click to collapse
You can also create a text file in Windows Notepad. Save a blank document named ".nomedia" (w/o the quotes) and instead of saving as "txt," use the drop down and save it as "all." Drag the document in to the folder you want to block the OS from scanning.
Ok got it fixed thanks guys...
On a related note, the pictures from my google+ account haven't been syncing with my TP Gallery. Usually if I take a picture with my Galaxy Nexus it will sync with my TP Gallery. Kinda cool except it hasn't been syncing. The photos are synced in the Gallery on my Galaxy Nexus, but no show on my TP since 1/27...

From my experience with my galaxy s, just adding a '.' Before any folder name will prevent it from showing in your gallery. You can call it whatever you like.

why can't sync my music playlist :(

Hi I have tried to sync my music to the sd card on the phone but when I go to the phone the whole music is mixed there are not playlists I am using Kies and there I already did my playlist but when I try to put them on the phone and just put the whole music mixed together....does someone knows how to do this....I have tried double twist but no luck...it is asking me for mass storage and all that stuff
Sync playlists and music from iTunes (MAC) to ext SD with Kies
How to sync iTunes (including any playlist) with your Galaxy S3 using Kies and not being killed in the process !!!
I’m not a professional, just an enthusiastic pal with an iMac and a Galaxy S3! Perhaps not the easiest get together we could choose, but what the heck, stranger couples we all have seen, haven’t you?
The idea is to get the full features of iTunes onto your ExtSD card of your Galaxy S3. I guess, including myself, you have found plenty of difficulties to do so, starting by the fact that for many sync apps there is no way they can sync with the Ext SD card but rather with the internal SD memory.
Let’ts start.
First of all, it worked for me but I’m not a professional and I cannot guarantee success in your case. I just wanted to share what it took me a while to figure it out and hopefully it will save much of the time that cost me. On top of it, it is basically for free (the only non free would be the Music Player you may choose).
Things you have to have prior to start:
- On your Mac:
iTunes (the obvious)
Kies for MAC
“Android File Transfer” app (you will see it is what I found for transferring playlists, you can google it.
- On your Galaxy S3
Music Player (I have Player Pro but I’m not getting a commission if you install it ;-) ) (you can find it in Google Play)
And the process is (pls, read it in full prior to do anything, the process should not erase any original file, but it requires certain attention to the detail. Don’t blame on me if something goes wrong !! ;-)
Start iTunes
1) Click on Preferences, then Advance, then take note of where the iTunes Media is, probably you get something like “/Users/yourname/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media”
2) Start Kies (it is not necessary to connect your galaxy s3 at this stage)
3) You will see a panel, and on the left side of the panel you will see different items such connected devices, and the Library. Within the Library, the first subitem is Music, click on it and you will see in the middle of the panel the possibility to add Music. Click on it and it will open a window of the Finder. Navigate until you find the path you took note in the previous step “/Users/yourname/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media” . When on top of the folder, click on the button to select it. Wait, and then all your iTunes library will be on Kies
4)Now you go to the main menu of Kies (what appears on the top row of your MAC and drop down File, then select “import iTunes Playlist ot the Library”. Now you will also see in Kies all the Playlists you have created in iTunes !
Connect your Galaxy S3 to your MAC using the USB cable. Make sure MTP mode is selected. If so, Kies will recognize it. Check it in your GS3 at “Settings”-“PC USB connection” when you plug in the USB cable, and make sure you choose the MTP mode and not the PTP mode (you will change this selection later on).
5) Click on the name of the device (probably you see the icon and the name GT-I9300)
6) On the top part of the panel you will see different buttons, select “Basic Information” and you will see that it shows both the internal SDMemory and the Ext SDMemory. In the middle of this panel, you will see Options, Memory order, then select External Memory first. Now select on the top part of the panel “Sync”. On the middle of the panel should appear “Media”, Click on “Sync Music” and select what you want to sync (all Library, or a playlist, etc…). Then click on Sync (button on the upper right corner of the central screen)
7) Now wait, your Galaxy is being loaded with all the music you selected in your Ext-SD Card. When finished, you will have the music on your Galaxy S3, but not the playlists…this is next task.
Playlist Export
1) When finish, the last thing you still have to do is to export the iTunes playlists. This is what “Android File Transfer” is for.
2) Reopen iTunes (in the case you have closed it down). On the left part of the panel you will see the list of the playlists you have created. Click on any of the ones you want to have on your GS3, and select “export” . It will appear a window with different options. Keep the name, but make sure on the bottom centre of the panel you choose “format” : M3U. You can export it to whatever folder you want, just remember it. What I did was to create a Folder name “Playlist Export” (not very imaginative I know, hahaha) and export them into it. Repeat the same for all Playlists you want to have in your GS3.
3) Assuming that you have installed the “Android File Transfer”, the last step is to change the mode of your USB connection from MTP mode into PTP. The “Android File Transfer” window should automatically pop up. If not, go to applications and launch it.
4) In the “Android File Transfer” window you will see on the top row, the possibility to go to the internal memory SD or to the External Memory SD. Chose the Ext. You will see a folder called Playlist (if not, just create it).
5) Last task, select all the Playlist files you have in the MAC folder “Playlist Export” and drop them into the Ext Memory folder called Playlist. When this is finish you are done!!!!
Wrap up
• Open in your GS3 your Music Player (i.e. Player Pro).
• Select to update its music library if not already done, and your are set!!!
As a conclusion, you have all your iTunes music in the ExtMemory SD micro card including your playlists up and running.
Cheers,
Paco
By the way, if you find the post useful I would appreciate if you indicate. If too long or not clear or not useful at all, I would appreciate it even more so it can be improved.
Thanks.
Holy spirit .that was some explanation.but very good though

First of all great tutorial, but i can't get Android File Transfer to detect my device on my iMac :/ Any solutions? I have a GS 5

[Q] Where does stock HTC Gallery store database?

Somehow, my gallery is showing the same pictures twice. Not all, but many. If you long press, and click details, the picture name and location for the two are identical. I've verify that only one copy is on the SD card. I've tried clearing data for the gallery (via the app menu in settings); I also tried deleting /data/data/com.htc.album (which had some database files, oh, I should note I have root) as well as deleting all .thumbnail directories. I figure there must be somewhere that I'm not looking.

How about first backup all your pictures to your PC so you're sure to have them, disconnect from PC, then try delete ALL of them through Gallery.
Maybe there's a backup on your ext_sd and that's why?
Here's something web-wise that might apply (google):

I saw that, but I'm not on JB, and the path given in details for each image is identical. I do have a backup, I'll see what happens when I delete one of the two. As you can see, I've got several thousand pictures, so I'd rather not fix this one at a time, esp since I'm going to be flashing a new ROM soon. I just want to try to figure this out. There has to be a way to reset the gallery and get it to rescan my SD card fresh.

In Gallery Album view then settings, I find option "Select Album" allowing me to tag each and every album to delete all at once.
However my gallery in ICS CM10 may be different than yours.
If your images are synced to the web is there a chance that they show up as the second images?

Yeah, it's the stock HTC Gallery. The only option in settings are "Perfect Pics" options. There is no way to delete full albums through the gallery. They are not synced to the web. The details dialog for the images show the exact same details down to the path, filename, everything, for duplicate images.
I deleted one of the pictures, and just deleting one, made both disappear from the gallery. Copying back that single file, there is only one shown. So, looks like it is definitely a goof up in the gallery database. Now to just figure out where it is on the filesystem.

Up top on the left, see if you can switch that view to Album. Then check the settings about Selecting Albums.
Yours looks different from mine--mine has a text drop-down menu where you have an icon of an album.
And I was using the on-screen buttons--Home, Menu, Return, Search, when I said to use the Settings, it was the Menu button on the bottom of my phone.

Can you do it through HTC Sync, or perhaps an after-market file utility--alas the File Manager that comes with CM10 allows me to wildcard search "*.jpg" and shows them all in a list, however at that point didn't allow me to select them all at once to delete all at once, just individually.
However, my images are stored in DCIM/Camera/ and I have those folders on both my int and ext sd.
Your camera settings may give you the option of where to store photos--possibly there's a "both" option, idunno.
The free app Quick Pic that I use gives me the option to select all my photos or albums at once and to delete them at once.
Maybe that is the easiest solution.
I really appreciate you trying to help, but I'm almost sure the issue is the database the gallery creates. I've been using ES File Explorer to try to find this database and delete it, to force the gallery to re-parse the entire filesystem. I'm positive that the database has duplicate entries for the same file. Deleting and restoring pictures external to the gallery app has no effect. Deleting the pic from the gallery causes the gallery to remove both entries in it's database, and when I add the picture back, I get only one, as I should (which effectively cleans the db for that one particular file). This database has to exist somewhere, it's just a matter of finding and deleting it.
I submitted a question to HTC support. We'll see what they say.
Maybe it's not your device.
Maybe it's just syncing to a cloud storage.
I know that my brother's girlfriend's Motorola Xoom was sending pictures directly to her Google+ account and she didn't like that. It took me a while to figure out that's what it was because we'd delete all the pictures and still they'd show up.
Maybe that's what's happening to you.

The stock gallery isn't that smart. On the main screen, you can select to show pictures from local storage, Picassa, Flickr, etc. But these show the same path for each duplicate "/mnt/sdcard/ext_sd/DCIM/100MEDIA".
Why not just try "Quickpic"? Better than stock IMO.

I could use a different gallery, but just as an exercise, want to figure this out, since it has to be solvable. I'm going to flash a new ROM soon, so it really doesn't matter, I just want to solve this, since it seems like an easy problem (figure out where the gallery db is and delete it).

Possible it doesn't keep a database, just scans each time, and is listing the same photo under two headings even though same path?

It may not be a database proper, like a SQLite database, but there is definitely some sort of cache that it builds. If I add a huge directory of pictures, open the gallery, it takes a while to parse through it all. Subsequent times opening the gallery, the pictures/thumbnails are available instantly.

Thumbs are built and kept in a folder under DICM. there is most likely a process that scans the folders for pics and then makes a thumb if it doesn't already have one.
Thus there are actually two copies of pictures on your phone. One is full sized and the other is a thumb size.
You can copy all the pics off your phone to one folder on your computer, then delete all the photos from your phone and then copy them back from your computer.
If you have thousands of pics, I'd back them up anyway. dont want to lose some great pics...

Yeah, I've tried deleting the .thumbnail folder to try to get the gallery to rescan. Say I have 1000 pics, and I add a folder of pictures with a 1000 more, the first time I open the gallery, it shows 1000, with a spinning wheel. Eventually, it'll populate with 2000 pictures. And you can tell it's creating thumbnails. If I just delete the thumbnail folder, when I open the gallery, it immediately shows 2000 pictures, but it'll slowly recreate thumbnails. That's why I think there has to be some other cache somewhere, and in my case it has duplicates in it.
As for backup, I have a Synology NAS (with 1TB RAID1 mirror) that all of my pictures are backed up to, and I use the Synology DS Photo+ app to instantly backup pictures as I take them to my NAS. Once a month, my NAS is mirrored to a 1TB USB drive.

Yeah, some of those thumbs did look pretty good.

copying pictures from old phone

Ok so I guess this isn't specifically for the M8.. but I need some help. I've had my m8 for a while now but never properly copied over everything from my old phone. All of my old pictures in particular are still on my old phone. Well, most of them copied over.. but not the way I want. Basically, what I want is to get all of my pictures, and all of the different albums to just transfer from internal to SD so that I can just load it in my M8.
I don't remember what I did exactly, but most of my old pictures transferred over to my M8 all grouped into one album. I also don't want to use dropbox or do this over the internet. I thought Quickpic would've been easy to just select all and copy over.. but not that I could figure out. I suppose I could create new folders on my SD card and then use quickpic to copy them individually... but not ideal. Is there an easier way??
Also, unfortunately, my old phone will not connect to my computer, or else I'd use that.

I don't know if you tried this or not but, if you are on a stock Rom, choose the "get content from another phone" in settings. The catch is you will need to get the HTC transfer tool from the play store on the old phone. Once you do that follow the instructions. This method will transfer a lot more than just photos. You get to choose what to transfer. It works really well.
You should just be able to use any Android file manager to copy, move, create the albums/folders however you like. And then the M8 should just pick up the new albums. I'm a little confused on what the issue is?

Thanks so much. I thought I used that already, but clearly not. This worked perfectly and was no hassle.

I was hoping to find a way where I didn't have to manually go in and find all of my folders, then create new ones on the sd card, then copy over each folder individually... huge hassle.

I don't see that as a huge hassle, unless you have a lot of folders in different places. And if so, why? I suppose you are free to organize your files however works best for you. But just having them in a couple master folders like DCIM and/or Pictures seems the most logical IMO. And if that is the case, just migrating them even manually is just going to be a few taps and take a few minutes.
In any case, glad you found a solution that worked for you. But it looks like the HTC Transfer Tool is cloud/internet based which I thought you were trying to avoid?
The HTC tool was Wi-Fi direct using the m8s connection which I was much more comfortable using instead of hosting everything in a company's site.

Gotcha. WiFi based, not internet based. My mistake. Thanks for clarifying!
