[NIGHTLY][ROM][4.4.2] CyanogenMod 11.0 for Samsung ExpressATT (SGH-I437) - Samsung Galaxy Express SGH-I437 ROMs, Kernels, Rec

This ROM is for the AT&T SGH-I437 ONLY! It is NOT for the GT-I8730! Just because Samsung named them both "Express" does not mean they have identicle internal hardware!
CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.4 (KitKat), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

Reporting Bugs
You are allowed to report bugs only in this thread. Before reporting a bug, please make sure you are running as stock as possible. This means no custom kernel, no custom framework modification, etc. If you are using any of the above modifications, please flash the rom again to get rid of the modifications before reporting.
REPORT BUGS IN THIS THREAD ONLY
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. The following is a useful format to follow.

The Odin bootloader package is flashable regardless of what firmware you are currently running.
The modem packages can ONLY be flashed when you are on the correct firmware. Please check your firmware version before using these packages.
You MUST be using a compatible bootloader for CM11 to install.
AFAIK SGH-I437 P or Z devices all shipped with 4.1+, so they don't require any bootloader/modem updates (at this time). I do not have any flashable stock images for either of these devices, please do not ask for them.

Looks nice, by the way, you have the mediafire links hosted as private.

Awesome!!!
Installing right now. Thanks so much for your hard work jt!

You da man jt1134!!! Thanks!

Love your ROMs! :good:
Just one quick question: What do we have to do to get the capacity to MOVE APPS TO SD CARD????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :crying:

thanks a bunch love the ROM..!
hi just want it osay thanks. and great work.!!
you gave my phone new life.!:good:

@jt1134 Your wifi tethering problem is probably due to you enabling the qcom softap sdk. You can either turn it off, or add this https://github.com/TheMuppets/propr...mmit/c99e48902908fce2e365fe514064773fd0326d28

this is a small detail in the camera JT is not the option to put the photos on the microsd

Very nice! My wifi tethering actually works ;] I suggest everyone ditches the new hangouts for sms bull**** and installs the 4.3 mms.

thanks for all you're hard work :good:
and wifi tethering is working great on my end...

Wait so it doesn't have a regular messaging app?

mine did, pretty sure it does...
i had 10.2 installed and followed his instructions to install 11.0 and i had the choice to use the regular app or the hangouts app...

My bad it does have the default sms, forget about hangouts and google plus, had to force uninstall because they don't give you a choice. Talk about an invasive battery waster, never saw so many permissions in my life. Everything is running smooth otherwise. I'm waiting for Xposed support and the cool screen colors because default colors are off.

just curious...if i backup app data through helium and then root and install cm11, you think ill be able to get app data back???

For those who want to update the recovery without odin can use android terminal.
1-Unpacking CWM 6.0.4.5.tar and get the recovery.img
2-copy and paste on root of device ( /sdcard )
3-open terminal login "su" and Execute this comand
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
Enviado desde mi SAMSUNG-SGH-I437 usando Tapatalk 2

Another fantastic build JT!
I've been using it (not super heavily) for the past couple days and aside from a couple random reboots, one of which required me to boot into recovery and reboot from recovery. I've noticed some apps are not playing well with the ROM but I think that mostly to do with the newness of 4.4 and apps not yet being patched for KitKat. I'm currently using it as a daily driver.

So I found out about ART and everything seems to be working now except for youtube. It wouldn't launch no matter what so I uninstalled now I can't install youtube. ART is so much better!

Update from latest Unofficial to first Official through OTA was unsuccessful. Now flashing from CM Recovery and will flash GAPPS as the Google services are not working after the OTA update.
edit: gapps still not working after flashing official build + gapps from recovery. Any chance to fix it without factory reset?
Solution: "you can clear the play services data to fix that"

update: I got better performance with the first official build compared to the latest unofficial.

Thanks a lot @abdulhkeem, it worked and this saved me a lot of time. :good:
My phone seems very hot under the camera, expecially when leaved attached to AC power... much more than on KK...
I made all the possible wipes/formats and checked with betterbatterystats but I cant find anything strange...
Thanks so much for this @Lysergic Acid!
I have been following since November last year and all I can say is what an amazing achievement!
Congrats to you and all the great devs that helped you get to where you are now.
Can't wait to see what is to come with the official tag on the ROM now.

lost root
Looks like I lost root with the official build. Yes, the root access is enabled in dev options. Tried rebooting, disable-enable, re-flash, still does not have root.

Can't wipe data
I'm unable to wipe data/factory reset from the new cyano recovery. Same thing if i try wiping from settings, is someone having same issue?
@Hazard- Me too, but also I can`t install any *.zip package.
it says unable to open efs/metadata (more or less). I thought efs folder is untouched on wipe, isn't it?
No APN data available so mobile data can't also be enabled.
Nice!
Great work @lysergicacid !! REALLY THANKS!!!
Now I can only hope, that my S3 will also get Official.
I have just written to @JustArchi , would you tell him what you have done to get official? Thanks!

Camera
Video codecs
Storage (both internal and external)
MTP storage (both internal and external)
zRAM (compressed-RAM swap)
GAPPS

Tethering (USB, Wifi, Bluetooth)
Sound recording
Torch (flashlight)
BUGS/Not working:
Weird sound when using loud speaker while calling
GPS doesn't work
Recorded videos through camera produces wrong color
Offline charging doesn't work
Switching to other fonts will get bootloops after restart. In this case, if you use TWRP recovery, go to File Manager >> delete "themes" from /data/system would help you escape this without factory reset
First time installing CyanogenMod 12.1 to your Galaxy Grand Prime, or coming from another ROM:
Install TWRP Recovery
Reboot into Recovery using 3-button-combo (Vol-up+Home+Power)
Do a Nandroid backup! (Optional and only if you weren't running TouchWiz before)
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition + format /system partition)*
Install the ROM from sdcard using TWRP Recovery
Optionally install the Google Apps ( get it here: https://opengapps.org ) (pico GAPPS recommended)

These are WIP builds of porting LineageOS 14.1 to the Droid 4 (and also other devices using the same device/motorola/omap4-common-infrastructure). They probably won't work, so don't expect too much. Use on your own risk!
Builds:
Current official builds:
https://download.lineageos.org/spyder (Droid Razr)
https://download.lineageos.org/umts_spyder (Razr)
(When migrating from Lineage unofficial, flash this first (manually mount /data in TWRP before flashing and unmount it afterwards) and then directly flash the new image without rebooting)

Changes (only device/family specific, CM base is always synced before build and contains more changes):

2017-05-15:
Security updates
CM base updated
2017-04-11:
Fixed mobile data on Verizon
2017-04-05:
DRM playback fixed
2017-04-04:
Camcorder working, thanks to @Android-Andi (thumbnail picture is still wrong, but recorded video seems fine). This probably also fixed other media-related issues.
CM base updated
2016-11-27:
CM base updated
2016-11-13:
SELinux is enforcing
PackageInstaller works on ext3-based userdata again
2016-11-05:
First build
What's working:
Phone (tested on Verizon and on GSM/UMTS in Europe)
Mobile data
WiFi
GPS
Camera
Video recording
Playback of DRM-protected content
Reboot to recovery
What's not working:
Probably most everything else, including, but not limited to:
HDMI
Data encryption (investigating, needs new unreleased safestrap)
Gapps:
OpenGApps
If you install Gapps after the ROM has been booted for the first time you either need to wipe data or manually delete /data/system/users/0/runtime-permissions.xml and reboot. Without this Gapps will crash constantly. This is due to a new permissions-system introduced in Marshmallow.
Installation:
You need a recovery supporting SELinux
A version of Safestrap (3.75) which supports SELinux can be found here: https://github.com/stargo/android_packages_apps_Safestrap/releases/tag/v3.75
A newer version of safestrap which will format userdata as ext4 will be released shortly. You can also just reformat userdata to ext4 in the old Safestrap for now.
Please read the instructions on how to install this version and follow the order of the steps in it.
GSM users with XT912:
These versions (both unofficial and official) automatically switch to GSM/UMTS without installing additional patches.

Thank you so much guys for remembering razr i hope we will go a long way with you and with razr.
Do you think there is any hope that the bug the RAZR has had since CM 10.2 (that prevents video uploading) could be fixed on Nougat? And if not, is there anyone who knows why it doesn't work?
Thank you for this ROM @stargo :good:
Does it include a kernel image? I could not find it from http://droid.cs.fau.de/cm-14.1/cm-14.1-20161113-UNOFFICIAL-spyder.zip

Thanks for rom !!
It's seems lag, will any kernel / settings can solve it ?
@stargo,
Thanks for keeping up CM for these devices.
This 14.1 runs very smooth on a X910, but when installed with GApps it becomes much slower (maybe official 13.0 too, but I didn't test it without gapps). The broken File Manager is not nice, however.
Positively, it doesn't include CM Bug Report app, which always crash in CM13.0 (triggered by crash in a page inside Privacy Guard).
But, I see there is no "App data usage" (restrict apps Wi-Fi or Cellular data) in Privacy Guard. Was it removed from 14.1 or just not ready yet?
Just out of curiosity, could you tell me if Safestrap is the only variant of TWRP that works in spyder/umts_spyder? (I couldn't find original TWRP for these). No, I don't dislike Safestrap, I think it's very nice project, especially for preserving stock rom and allowing multi-boot, despite possible performance penalties.
I have another question about Safestrap: If I boot into stock and make a backup of its .img files (they are in internal sdcard/safestrap), do I need a backup made inside twrp or they are the same?
Will you make available a test build of the next Safestrap version?

For me - cm14.1-OC-FullScale-Lite-2016-11-08.zip, I have tried all versions on cm13, this was only one I can install (just for cm13, of course), so I use the same on cm14.1 and I am not disappointed, but I am have not tried others...
Using daily. Thanks!
Android OS / Cyanogenmod-system Batterydrain
I have this problem since CM13. I tried cm-13.0-20160816-SNAPSHOT-ZNH5YAO0FG-umts_spyder.zip and many nightlies but it's always the same: android os or cyanogenmod system is with 20-40 % the number one batterydrainer and always keeps the device active. With the first cm13 builds and with cm11 I never forced this problem and it made one day but now I can't find a build which doesn't has this problem anymore. I tried different kernels on cm13 but without any effect.
I hoped it would be better on cm14 but unfortunatly it's exactly the same..
Does anyone has an idea or a solution to this problem?
Thank you for any answer!

Are you sure it is not some app you installed, or accidentally changed Android settings to avoid turning screen off? Did you cleanly installed Cm the last time?
"Error code 70" during installing pico GAps
Thank you so much stargo for your work!
I have putted it to the slot 1 with pico GApps. Works great!
But when i putting it in to the stock slot i getting "Error code 70" during installing pico GAps. I tried reformat userdata to ext4.
I checked rm -rf instead of formatting then Wipe/advanced/checked data/Repair or Change File System - and change to EXT4 but when i go back it still ext3.
How to solve this issue?
Thank you.

Is the error code 70 stating that you don't have enough space to install gapps?
If you exit the to the first screen in safestrap, check again that data is EXT4 in advanced wipe.

F.A.Q
Q: ROM startup too slow?
A: Nope, just because you haven't done a factory reset before installing the ROM
Q: ETAs?
A: See here: Link
Q: Anymore models supported?
A: SM-G531BT
Q: Is init.d supported on this ROM?
A: Every CyanogenMod ROMs support init.d, so be free at scriptings
Q: Can you include ABCXYZ feature / Samsung Apps here?
A: NO!
Q: Can I use your ROM as a base for portings?
A: Yes, you could, but give proper credits
Q: Server error in Google Play Store?
A: Install latest Google Play Services manually first (might take long time, due to Lollipop's nature), then you can install apps from GG Play as usual
Q: How to use adoptable storage feature? I see it's new in Marshmallow
A: Go to Settings >> Storage & USB >> Tap on the SD card label (not the eject icon) >> 3 dots menu on the top right >> Settings >> Format as internal and done!
Q: Where's the MTP option in Marshmallow? I don't see it in Storage settings
A: This feature has been moved to Developer settings, and will reset to default (Charging) after every reboots. Enable developer options first by tapping 7 times on Build number in About phone section >> Go to Developer settings >> Select USB configuration. The fastest way to do this is plug in your USB with your PC, scroll down notification bar and tap on "USB for Charging"
Q: Where's the "running" section in Apps settings?
A: It has been cut off separately to Memory setting and "Running services" in Developer settings. You can see the memory used by apps for a period of time and closing apps too, but they won't disappear in the menu, and in "Running services", still same as old-fashioned running apps section
Q: Can't install GAPPS?
A: Install TWRP 3.0.2.0

Excellent video, rom is great, we will wait to solve the bugs.
you are just awesome!
i am using cm13 for more than two weeks now and is expecting for the stable release. now i see this, my expectations have obviously gone high to use stable cm14. i'll test and report soon. lots of thanks to u. ok i'm gonna download now :good:
Tested it. Here are the results:
HD videos lags during play. tested with mx player too but i am able to fix it in mx player by setting software decoder as default instead of hardware decoder.
Live display is not working (Settings --> Display --> LiveDisplay). It is always off even though you change the modes.
Battery style is set to circle but it shows portrait though it does not matter, i jst noticed
Baseband version is not detected and is shown Unknown in phone status (may be it is related with RIL bug i guess).
Waiting for the update with fixes. Thanks!

Thanks for your contribution!
There is a small typo in the first post - the download URL actually points to jfltexx instead of jfltevzw builds.
Got a question, what root are you using in this? AICP switched to a systemless root magisk and couldn't get it working. Is this is still old school root? Systemless root has to patch the boot.IMG and with the bootloader locked it wont work? Correct? Just trying to understand. Thanks
Would like to switch.

Which custom recoveries do work on Verizon variant? Everytime I install TWRP is gives me this message: "System software not authorized by Verizon wireless has been found on your phone "
Alternatively, can this be flashed using Flashify?

We don't have an unlocked bootloader. If your bootloader version is MDK, however, there is an exploit known as LOKI. The LOKI exploit allows the bootloader to load 'unsigned' software, if said software has been patched to use the LOKI exploit. If your bootloader is NOT MDK, you're SOL. Don't tamper any more or you risk a brick.
(You can check your bootloader version by typing 'getprop|grep bootloader' in a terminal emulator on your device, or using 'adb shell' and then that from a command line on your computer.)
If you download and install TWRP from the TWRP app or site, it will not be LOKI patched. You need to find a patched recovery and flash that. Check the official TWRP thread. There is a gentleman who was kind enough to throw together a little command script that will flash a LOKI signed TWRP to your phone, if you have ADB enabled and are rooted.

This ROM is for MDK bootloaders only. It is not safestrap-compatible. On NK1, you'll need to stick with safestrap-compatible ROMs (TouchWiz-derived).

Has anyone tried this ROM on their jfltevzw yet? If not, I may give it a try anyway (with a bit more caution).

Sorry to disappoint you, but I never have this device.

Not yet, not my daily and haven't messed with it again. Still on the aicp. I think I might have tried but had issues with finding root under developer options. That might have also been for the gnex. Lol

Yup. I don't use my jflte much but this ROM works well for all I've seen so far.
Flash it away (if you're on MDK)

Great! Thanks for the reply. Have you rooted this ROM? If so, which method did you use?

SuperSU I believe.
Alright, I'm taking the plunge. Loading 20170412 weekly and trying the SuperSU System-mode installer
Not going great. I was able to flash LineageOS and Pico Gapps, but every attempt I've made to root (system-mode method) so far has ended in boot-loops.
@uhh186 any tips would be appreciated.

I'm sorry; I don't use my SG4 anymore, I just play with it every once and a while to see if I can't get the latest software on it. I was wrong/misremembered when I said SuperSU.
We can't use SuperSU because nougat+ requires systemless mode, and we can't do that with a locked bootloader.
My SG4 is rooted, so I went and looked what I had done. It appears I had just flashed the LOS root module.

No apology necessary. Thanks for the help. It is strange, though. I've completely wiped internal storage, formatted data, installed again, and tried the LOS root addon. I still don't have root. The ChainsDD Superuser app from the Play store thinks I have root, but Titanium Backup and Root Checker can't find it.

LOS root requires some weird hoop jumping. Go into your developer options and make sure Root Access is enabled for apps and ADB.
