4.4 KitKat - Sony Tablet S

Just asking for opinions. Will XTS have a 4.4 update? Or there are no hope for the tablet?

I don't think so. I think it even won't get the 4.2.

I agree. Unfortunately, I heard Sony Mobile Communications didn't make the tablet (Sony Electronics apparently did) and the Electronics division doesn't seem to want to update the tablet or even release AOSP builds for it unlike Mobile Communications.

they suck so badly! I regret for buying it >_<

Sony have washed their hands of these devices. XTS was lucky to get 4.1. STS was forgotten 1 year ago with 4.0.3 . XTZ will be supported for a long time as there will be developer support through unlocked bootloader etc

XTZ will get Kitkat, we wont though. Im still dreaming of 4.2.2, but i doubt we will ever get it. Thinking of trying to sell my XTS next week..

Only way ts and xts owners will ever get anything else is buy buying something new!!!

KitKat on these tablets when getting abandoned? Hahahahahaha! XD
The only way it is possible is to get a custom rom which may be in the future.

There is nothing new... and the webcast says that only Xperia S would have the update.. but now they deleted that part of the video.. We don't know why.. maybe Tablet S1 will have JB after all...
Btw... This is developmet section not Q&A/General.. :good: Let's keep the forum clean and organized! :highfive:

I don't believe there will be a JB update. A lot of these sorts of discussions get confused between Xperia S and the old S, there has been confusion with twitter/facebook errors on official feeds. I remember a furore when the official Italian site confirmed there would be a release and then withdrew it.
Here is the closest I can find to a definitive answer stating that there is no roadmap to update Tablet S to JB.... http://community.sony.com/t5/Sony-Tablet-Operating-System/Any-news-about-Jelly-Beans/td-p/38595

I was a bit surprised to receive the survey link. Does make me a little hopeful that maybe Sony will continue development (upgrades) to the older S tablet. At the end of the survey when they give you the chance for additional comments; I pleaded with them to not let the OS go obsolete before the hardware. The hardware in this tablet is still very capable of handling newer OS versions.

I took the opportunity to do the same as well. I told them that I lobe my tablet but wish that the few bugs it has would get squashed and that the os would be upgraded to the newer smoother one.

Android 4.3 and not 4.2.2 update?

Hello,
Since then I've gotten with that there is no 4.2.2 update for the S 3, but now I am become somewhat skeptical that there will probably be no more updates.
If anyone knows any this update has already been confirmed by Samsung?
Thanks in advance for an answer..:cyclops:

It's common knowledge if you read the forums, 4.2.2 release May-June 2013.
Android 5 is also coming, from internal Samsung chatter...

I've got an interesting question. Once Kitkat has been officially released by Sony, would obtaining root be fairly easy?
Or would it be a mission like on current 4.3 firmwares where we have to downgrade, root, flash, etc?
I'm still on 4.2 and will not bother upgrading until Kitkat has been released and obtaining root is done by a one click procedure.
If anything it'll be harder to root
And you would more then likely have to downgrade etc

What Jack said
There is a slight conflict here, you want an easy root path, but you want a secure phone that no one can hijack. If there is a one click root tool then there can just as easily be a 'no click' root exploit that you dont even know has been un on your phone and the writer/hacker now has full control of your phone - see the problem?
The way Sony wants us to do it (and the best security model for us and them) is to unlock the bootloader and install recovery to flash our phones - this is what we do now except we do the extra steps of running a root exploit so we can latter restore our bootloader/TA to a factory state

I understand. What you said makes sense. I previously used Vroot to root previously like most others but after hearing rumours that were apparently true, I no longer used it. As you mentioned they may be stealing our imei numbers and taking control over our phones violating our privacy...
Since Kitkat 4.4 is around the corner, I won't bother updating to 290 Firmware. Who knows, we may need to downgrade and flash to root Kitkat.
As long as we have an unlocked bootloader root is easy
hmmm.i remembered that when the nexus 5 came in..they got it rooted fast.since the software securities of 4.4 is almost(if not the same) with 4.3..but who am i to say..im just a simple guy passing through... but hey, we already have a working kitkat rom for ZU..so why wait? *smiling

You're the second swede in here that haven't received 4.3, and since both Norway and Denmark received it a month ago, I'll conclude that Sony hates Sweden Sony and Ericsson did break up after all, so I guess Sony doesn't want to go back there and risk bumping into Ericsson. Awkward.
I assume you've checked PCC for the update, and that you haven't changed your CDA to a country that haven't received the update (a mistake I did).

Android Kitkat Update For Note 3 Neo

Does anyone get android kitkat 4.4.3 for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo
It's all a distant dream....unless you're a Korean with a Korean phone!
Even galaxy grand 2 got 4.4.2.I think we will get update next month..

Firstly I would like to tell you guys that my friend has a grand 2 and he got kitkat update. But he isnt happy because samsung has underclocked the gpu,low frame rate in games, bugs while charging, etc. Also those who updated to kitkat and are unsatisfied with kitkat cant even go back to JB as it results in a hard brick.
So I think samsung is maybe looking into providing a better update for our device with least bugs possible. So its better to wait a month or so more rather than getting a buggy update to which you cant even roll back to.
Secondly,I have been using note 3 neo for 4 days and till now i have not faced a single problem or setback in terms of performance. All games weather gta sa,nfs, fifa, max payne, etc run super smooth on JB.

Most of initial firmware updates (irrespective of the model) from Samsung is buggy and users are expected to test it for them .
Also due to knox downgrading firmware has become a PITA Like some one said just be patient and it'll come when it's ready

For 90% of the users it's more important to have the latest numbers and versions. 90% of those 90% can't make the difference between kk and jb if you don't tell them. Placebo effect is stronger than you think
