What is KF HDX 8,9 custom rom scene ? - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hello all,
i was wondering if you guys could give me some advise on this, here's the questions :
i never had a kindle tablet before but since the specs on this tablet are phenomenal and price is not bad, do you think it could be a good idea to get this tablet instead of other out there and rely that it'll get rooted soon and have good custom roms in the near future in order to have with some patience a full android tablet but it's actually a KF HDX ??
let me know what you guys think
thanks

It's too early to tell. We don't have root yet and it doesn't look like many developers have gotten this device, so while I'm confident we will get root access eventually, I'm not sure what the custom rom scene will look like.
Frankly, I'll be satisfied with root and working widgets and wallpapers.

Yep looks Luke a great tab even without full android

It's great hardware for sure. If you can live without customization for now, don't mind side loading apps if needed, and can put up with the FireOS UI then it's a keeper.
There's no other Android tablet with this combination of size, weight, screen quality, and battery life. I have the HDX 8.9.

kindle hdx 8.9 root wif +4G
i hope that there will be a root available and possibly a custom rom for this tablet by xmas..
there should be some good black friday and cyber-monday deals on this device..
maybe by then one or more of the devs will have it to do their magic..
let's wait and see..

Having root will be very nice in the future, as is... i am falling in love with my kindle 8.9! Kicks the **** outtah my ipad air in weight, thinness, battery life and screen quality!
Watching movies and playing games on this thing is truly amazing. I have been able to get everything i wanted working on my kindle with minimal pain.
The design and build quality are top notch only the ipad air comes close and it cost me a hefty $599. I am sure that once more developers get word of how amazing this device is, we will start seeing some fast paced development .

Just bought a Tablet S.

Hi Guys.
Well after selling my iPad 1 a few momths ago I had some money spare for a Android tablet. The iPad 1 lagged like crazy - it was driving me nuts! Also, I bought a Nexus S at xmas and put ICS on it, which I really do like. I love Chrome Beta too!!
Initially I had my eyes on a Galaxy 10.1 and I was going to pull the trigger on a 2nd hand one a few weeks back but decided against it at the last minute. Also, the Newton Rings problem really put me off too and where the hell is the ICS update??
I was set on waiting for the Nexus tablet, but delays and lack of real estate (its rumoured to be only 7" put me off.)
So I needed a quick fix as I was missing a tablet badly. Saw a 2nd hand Tablet S and snapped it up after reading that ICS had just been released.
Should receive it on Wednesday. I'm a bit unsure of the book design but hopefully it will win me over.
How is the screen compared to the iPad 1? I read the S is LED compared to the IPS of the iPad.
Thanks.
congrats man!!
and i dont know much about screens but i know they used the true black display the one they currently use on their TV's which suppose to show more vibrant colors..
My opinion is that the screen trumps even the ipad 2. Looks washed out when compared to a SAMOLED+ screen (eg galaxy s2) though. But still pretty nice.
Not sure how Sony decided on the name true black though... :| I couldn't possibly think of a less-accurate name to describe it. Just to me, black is black, not a white light flooded greyish shade. But hey w/e
I prefer the Sony Tablet S screen over the Samsung which looks too blue/green - very un-natural.
Good call passing up that Galaxy tab. I had bought one just before the Tablet S came out and it had a bad case of those dreaded Newton's rings. Luckily I was able to swap it.
I love the screen on the Tablet S. I think the color representation trumps the ipad 2, but it doesn't get very bright.
Hope you're happy with it.
Thanks for replying guys
I'm happy the screen gets the thumbs up from the community.
How are peoples experiences with the battery?
Is it easy to root and load a rom?
Anyone in the UK got the OTA buy any chance?
Cheers.

well my personal experience i usually get less than a day on my tablet since i always using it so much maybe like 5-6 hours tops!
rooting the device seem pretty straight forward if you follow the directions giving by the people posting it on the sony tablet s general forums its easy but i chose not to root my sexy lol.. and im from the US..
Hello friends!
I am kinda thinking for buyin this S1 in few days, but only problem I am feeling right now is less Dev support, no custom roms, I seriously visit here everyday almost 50 times a day to check if any progress.
Of course I am a die hard SONY fan, other devices are not even option for me.
I only want to know if this tablet (S1)
1) has exmorR
2) can its framework be edited to create themes
3) possibility for custom roms
4) confused in what is the new feature that direct access to sd card? can't we install anything from sd card?
5) did anyone try MAME4droid on this tablet
thanks!!
Hi all.
The postie has just dropped my tablet round!
First impressions are positive. Its not as plasticky in the hand as I was fearing. Seems nice and solid.
Just charging it now before I switch it on.
Can't wait for some ICS lovin'
It was 2nd hand so how would I wipe it like its come from the factory??
Cheers.

To the Xperia Tablet S owners, is it worth buying?

Hi,
Today Xperia Tablet S starts selling in U.K., just want honest opinion from actual owners, is it worth buying?
Share your views and brief opinion about ur Xperia Tablet, m wondering if anyone purchased yet :silly:
Please rate using Voting button, thanks..
My other options are:
1. NEXUS 7 (cheap n best, but not yet available in SG)
2. Galaxy Note 10.1 (pricy n not as smooth as SGS3 or Nexus 7)
I actually just sold my Nexus 7, it wasn't what I was hoping for, smooth yes, but lacked functionality and was "too" Google for me.
The Xperia is launched tomorrow, not today - i've already got one reserved which i'll pic up tomorrow, but the store has said I can play with the demo model first

M also quite certain that I will buy XTS once its available in Singapore, just hope it gains popularity amongst devs !!
Nexus7 in malaysia is not so cheap. Could get the tablet s or acer iconia for that said price.
A friend of nine has the tablet s, and i really like it, so am really interested with the tablet s. Would probably buy it. But i atleast need root to install ubuntu.

Nexus7 is too small,16G is too small, samsung 10.1 is expensive, tablet s will upgrade to 4.1,so i will choice tablet s.
Agreed. As I've said before, anyone upgrading/downgrading from a Tablet S to a Nexus 7 (or vice versa) should be bloody sure they know what they're doing. The two devices are a whole different beast to use and live with. That 2.4-inch difference in screen sizes changes a lot. There's also the many differences in functionality and features that mean thy are each suited to a completely different user style. Each to their own, I guess, but I'm always surprised.

Totally agree with you. Ultimately, i think the buying decision should be what you're using your tablet for, hence for me, i chose the sony tablet s for its screen size (reading comics, magazines). Im not comfortable with 7inch form factor. Specs imo should come second. Real time user experience should always be first.
With that said, the new kindlefire HD's (7.0 & 8.9) is givin me the headache at the moment. Seems like a very decent offerings from amazon.

It certainly looks good aesthetically. From what i've heard, Sony seems to have addressed the problems with the previous tablet, (wifi, speakers, etc). The aluminium body and splash resistant is a plus definitely.
How much do you reckon the price is gonna in Singapore? Any idea?

Post a mini review!!! :victory: What was your previous tablet?

Is the Xperia Tablet S right for me

I realise posting in this section will get me biased reviews, but Im 99% sure the xperia tablet s is right for me just want a few opnions from people who have one.
My situation is that my windows laptop has about had it, it still works but even after a fresh format it just doesnt keep up with me these days. For the first time ever since my first wndows 3.1 machine I am wanting to move away from microsoft completly and move across to android (I will be keepig the windows laptop in a cupboard just in case theres something I cant do on android such as root a phone and such, you just never know)
I got myself my first android phone back in April which is an xperia T and I have fallen in love with it, I have rooted it, unlocked the boot loader and now got it running exactly how I want with no glitches, at the time it was a close call between the T and the Samsung S3 however after owning the T I am glad I went with sony over sammy mainly for how professional and business like it feels, the samsung just looks and feels like a childs phone compared in my opinion
This leads me to the tablet obviously the xperia z tablet would be my ideal choice, but I just cant warrant having that much in a tablet so my options came down to:
Xperia Tablet S
Nexus 10
Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
I really want to stay with the Sony Brand mainly because I love their take on android over samsung or stock android, Im just a little worried that Im buying something that is a dead or at least fast dying tablet? Mainly because sony seem to have discontinued everything now, obviously they are really pushing the z phone and tableand seem to be neglecting almost every other model
Would I be better going with the much more popular tab 2, samsung do seem to keep things well updated and there is a much larger raange of accessories?
Or paying out a little more and getting the superior Nexus 10? The display sounds fantastic and I am sure I would love the nexus 10, but its quite a lot me expensive than the s
I would use it for emails, typing on the internet in forums, surfing the net and controlling my synology disk station, then maybe when me and the misses go away watching a film, but that would be about as far as I would ever need to push the tablet
Just wanting to hear real world opinions and such on the xperia tablet s, if you have one, do you with you had something else or do you love it?

Wait for 2nd gen Nexus 10. These Sony tabs are locked down and don't really get any updates anymore. I would wait for the next Nexus 10, and either get the new Nexus 10, or get a used 1st gen Nexus 10 when the prices drop.

Thanks I have been half thinking that, I just love the Sony android style, like the idea of phone and tablet being the same. Does the final fw for the xps have issues or is it a great firmware? If it's perfect I don't really need future updates, however if it's poor and the bootloader is locked, guess I would be stuck. Thanks

Right now, the XTS has some issues with Wi-Fi even though one of the updates was supposed to fix it, and I've heard of a bug where the Tegra 3 will only use 2 cores instead of all 4. The core count bug is fixable with a root app, but it's not exactly permanent and it doesn't always work. And trust me, even though you say you won't mind not getting updates, once you flash 4.4 or some future version of android on your phone, you will change your mind. The screen on the XTS is crap too, with bad color saturation, low resolution, and bad viewing angles. You would be much happier with a Nexus 10.

Thanks for the advice, I'll take it and get myself a nexus 10 shame not to have the Sony ui, but the nexus seems a great device, can't justify the extra for the Xperia z just to get the Sony ui.
Never know I may even end up preferring stock android

There are plenty of Sony themes for ROMs with the theme engine anyway, so if you unlock the bootloader on the Nexus you could make it look similar to a Sony anyway

Yeah thanks for the suggestion as I said in my original post its a little more than I want to have in a tablet to be honest.
I have actually ended up buying a nexus 10 and a 2nd gen nexus 7, as I couldnt decide which would be right for me, Ill have a good go with both of them and decide before factory resetting one and sticking it back on ebay, fortunatly good condition second hand ones go for about £5 less than brand new ones on ebay.
I just couldnt decide between them if I wanted the screen size or the weight advantage

The Z4 tablet still a great choice?

Guys,
I sent the Pixel C back. It died in 2 days. I was looking at the Sony Z4 tab along with the google one. Now I am looking back at it. Is that Sony Z4 tablet still a fantastic tablet? Issues? Just looking for overall comments before I look to find one to buy..I dont see them for sale much right now so I find it might be hard to get one anyway. But thought I would ask before I started looking..
Well I was in the same boat as you. I recently purchased the Nexus 9 lte tablet but wasn't happy with it due to the poor construction and some light bleed issues in the screen so I decided to look for this Z4 in Amazon and got it for $589.00 Free shipping and no Tax. Man best choice I've ever made! Really well build table, super thin, great speakers and water proof. Doesn't have many development support or Roms support but you can root it, install Xposed, debloat it and live with it.....oh and great battery life. Compatible with T-mobile and At&t LTE even it says 4G.
Yes is still a great option almost a year after of his released.

My topic My Z4 Tablet Pros and Cons gives some of my and other's thoughts that are still relevant for the most part.
Also, the tablet flies on Marshmallow. I'm still super happy with my choice.
Does anyone think they might come out with a replacement for it anytime soon?

The problem with android tablets is that they do not sell well. That causes OEMs to only release mid to low end tablets perpetuating the situation. It's a sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Instead of making their tablets better so that they can sell better, they make them worse so they sell even worse than before.
That lets (as a result) old tablets to still be excellent. For example my Note Tablet is the best pen-based tablet to this day (maybe ipad pro 9.7 will change that), portable, unlike the 12inch behemoths and awesome functionality coming out of the pen.
Similarly Xperia Z4 remains even after a year of its release one of the best if not *the* best tablet, period. It's the lightest 10 incher ever created by far, making it the only choice for heavy readers. After MarshMallow some of the best battery lives in the industry, excellent screen and the lack of Roms can be fixed by xposed (which pretty much has *all* the features of custom roms).
Still whilst my wife has one, I won't buy one for myself because I don't want to support Sony's ridiculous DRM-Warranty policy. If that doesn't bother you, I don't think you can go wrong with this tablet, I'm hard pressed to find anything better (maybe ipad pro if you don't mind jailbreaking).

Any Custom Rom development

Hi folks
I am about to purchase this Galaxy S3 tab, if the owners of this device can tell me how is the performance going. I will be playing on it as well as working using VPN and RDP to my computer at work and do some stuff, surely won't be hammering the device but want to know if it will be rough to do this on it or not. I will be replacing my Nexus 9 worst tablet ever, majorly lags in games and performance in general is bad.
The other thing, does anyone know if custom roms will be out to this tablet soon or eventually?
Thanks all
I bought mine also to replace my Nexus 9, totally agree, worst tablet ever.
The tab s3 is far superior in every way.

S3 performance is excellent. No problem working on my PC (VPN+Jump) or gaming on trips.
However, battery could be better (my SOT around 8h, but sleeps exceptionally well)

I think the high price-point of this device really hurts our chances for seeing custom roms (smaller user base/not really worth the effort from ROM devs)
