beanstalk 4.4 kitkat installation issues - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

so i installed cwm touch on my device,
factory reset
clear cache
clead dalv cache
format system
install beatstalk and get this error
E: can't copy meta-inf/com/google/android/update-binary
installation aborted
can anyone help me
i've tried from both my internal and external sd card

What version is CWM? You need 6.0.4.3.
Also, try re-downloading the rom and gapps.

Error I717 vs i717
I have installed CWM touch 6, wiped (2x) then goto install and get the error that "This rom is for I717, and your device is i717" I have formatted the sd card and downloaded 2 different versions of the 4.4 and both give the same error. Also when I try to install others roms I get an error about "Bad" file. Any suggestions?

Only bug I see is YouTube does not work. I uninstalled and reinstalled updates and also tried force stopping the app.
It will play the first video I choose but then it won't play anything else.
Otherwise, Great Rom!

cwm touch 6.0.4.3 and standard cwm 6.0.4.3
i've downloaded cm11 and installed beanstalk 4.4 downloaded rom and multiple version of the rom and all the same thing

Maybe try formatting the sd card
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app

Installed this ROM and GAPPS from the dev thread for t0lte device.
First issue: AOSP keyboard force close. Looked up solution - install Google KB via APK. Ok, managed to do that, then set it to default. The AOSP FC message still appears, although not as frequently as before, and at least Google KB works.
Next issue: No data, no phone network.
Next issue: Went to set up APN, entered information, Menu > Save, APN did not save.
Not sure what the problem(s) is/are. Wanted to try this ROM but maybe I'll wait a while to see if anyone else runs into the same issues and if so, if they get fixed.

Permissions?

Well apparently the APN issues are caused by any 4.4 ROM if it is installed using TWRP.
So I have tried a couple of 4.4 ROMS using CWM and yes, my issues with APN didn't crop up. However, if I used another ROM that wasn't 4.4 (Paranoid) and then restored a backup of a 4.4 ROM, the APN again disappeared and was not modifiable. Anyway it's not the fault of any particular ROM, it appears.
As for the other issues, I have not gone back to Beanstalk since I posted my other message. Mostly because I don't really want to have to start from scratch every time I want to switch to a KitKat ROM (unless coming from another KitKat ROM, I presume - although I haven't ruled out that any recovery from backup wipes out APN).
Hopefully between the ROM developers and the custom recovery makers, this gets resolved and I can get back to feeding my ROM addiction.

[Q] Browser doesn't work on CELB Froyo 4.3 =(? HELP!
1. Check 3G signal, basically is the internet working?
2. Try re-flashing CELB and make sure to flash the latest gapps too
It would be more helpful if you gave a more in depth view of your browser problem.
it would help you more if you posted this issue in CELB's thread. You will get better answers faster by people who use the rom and that may have came across the isssue
When i try to reply it says i can't and should start using the Q&A Thread? smh

That's due to a recent change in XDA's site policy - new users can not post in the development sub-forums until they have at least 10 posts in other forums. So, you were right to post your question here, as you had no other choice. DirtyBubble apparently wasn't aware of this either, or he wouldn't have said that.
I tried a fresh install of 4.3 last night (w/ gapps 12/28), no bootloops, but no market access or Google account setups either. I'm going to look at a few different installs in a couple minutes - check back in this thread later.
bftb0
I tried the following 3 trials:
Before starting, I did a Nandroid backup (from within ROM Manager/Clockworkmod) of my existing ROM - CELB 4.1. (I am not sure of whether this 4.1 ROM had gapps 12/28 in it or not - I believe it does, but iirc they were installed on a CELB 3.9 ROM, and then just overflashed to 4.1)
1) Wipe Cache, Wipe Data/FR, Flash CELB4.3, Flash gapps 12/28
Result: account setup does not occur; market app crashes or closes immediately. Tried doing a FR on this; next boot the kernel actually crashed. Didn't bother to check the browser**
2) Wipe Cache, Wipe Data/FR, Flash CELB4.3, Flash gapps 10/18
Result: Provided account creds; phone sync'ed just fine and restored settings; Market works; Web Browser worked.
3) Wipe Cache, Wipe Data/FR, Restore CELB 4.1 from Nandroid backup; Flash CELB4.3; Wiped CACHE ONLY.
Result: Everything works, including stock browser.
** I didn't bother to check the browser in this case because I have little interest in using a ROM without a Gmail account; it did occur to me later, though, that the default setting of the browser has been to use location-services, and that the stock browser has exhibited crashes on startup on other ROMs that did not have a Google account configured. You can turn this off in the browser - but only if it doesn't crash, because you need to get to the browser settnigs menu to deal with this, so that is impossible in this case.
I don't know if that is your issue or not, but you could try turning off location services in the Settings menu and see if that makes any differences. (I don't know if that will work, but it is easy to try). Anyway, that's two solutions: either overflash 4.3 on top of a prior CELB ROM, or do a clean install of 4.3 using the 10/18 gapps. (If you do the former, you can only wipe cache at the end if you are using ClockworkMod - or manually via ADB if you are booted into Amon_RA).

[Q] Need help

I have a TMO Galaxy Tab 10.1 and was able to root it last night with only minor issues which with the help of users here and other topics I was able to resolve the no root issue and this morning I flashed the CM10 nightly and had it working pretty well. But in my infinite wisdom I decided to mess with the voice calling and downloaded the modem and voice calling zip from here for CM10 4.1.2 (or 4.1.1) and followed the directions to install those via CWM. My first attempt my tab stayed at the Cyanogenmod logo and never moved passed it (I gave it 30mins). So I shutdown and booted back into recovery and wiped data/factory, wiped cache & dalvik and reflashed the working CM10.
Now my current issue is first (didn't create backup, why I chose not to is beyond me....) and second my tab boots but I get FC on setup wizard and google apps....I can press ok until pigs fly but it never moves passed that.
So what can I do to bring my tab back to a working condition??
**EDIT (additional info) ** When I'm in CWM and install zip from sdcard originally I had to browse to /sdcard/0/<folder my zip was in>, after my screw up I now have to navigate to /sdcard/0/0/<folder my zip is in>......

Use other gapps, thid may fix the google crashes,
Connect to your pc, move all your files from /sdcard/0/0 to /sdcard/0, delete folder /0, now your files are back in /sdcard/0 on cwm

I managed to fix my tablet. I ended up going into CWM and formatting my /data & /sdcard. I then downloaded the stock ROM for my tablet from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877049 and used ODIN to install it. After another wipe/factory reset I was back to a working stock tablet.
Then I reinstalled CWM and CM 10.1 nightly with the gapps and viola back in action.....all this hassle so I can play Dark Meadows. Also my /sdcard/0/0 deal got fixed as well....only have one additional cosmetic issue (with the CM 10.1 I have the stupid voicemail notice icon on the status bar and can't get it to go away).

Which CWM version do you have ?
Be sure to flash 6.0.2.7 to support CM 10.1 (and use gapps from 1212)
I thought dark meadows is tegra 3 only, and as far as my experience last, they tell me that a Gtab 10.1 is tegra 2?

[Q] android.process.media error after CM 10.1

First, I apologize for the inevitable incorrect use of terminology - I'm trying my best.
After hours and hours of reading up, I finally attempted to internally install CM10.1 to my Nook Tablet 8GB v 1.4.3. I appreciate all the helpful posts on this forum, and primarily used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2037368 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2056626 to go through the steps. I hit a few snags along the way, but in the end I think I was successful.
Now I get an error message every time I boot: "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped." I click okay, then everything seems to work fine. I have tried some suggestions from here, including clearing caches and stopping google's automatic syncs, but nothing has fixed the problem. As far as I can tell, everything works okay otherwise.
Any ideas on how to fix this message? Could it mean that I did not successfully complete the installation process? (Are there ways to tell if the installation was not successful other than not having a brick?)
Android Version 4.2.2
CyanogenMod Version 10.1-20130421-NIGHTLY-acclaim
Happy to provide any more details that would be helpful. And many thanks in advance.

This happened to me after I dirty-flashed CM 10.1 over another CM 10-based rom. Let me see if I can remember what I did to make it go away... I think it has something to do with a file or process that Android uses to index/keep track of media files on internal and external sd cards, and deleting or wiping the cache or data on that particular process fixes things. I will do some checking around and post back here if I (re)find more specific info.
EDIT: Found it, I think... Do a force stop, clear data, and clear cache on the "Media Storage" app, then reboot and see if it goes away.

Sorry...long week.
Unfortunately, it didn't work. I had also seen suggestions on the forum of similarly stopping and clearing Google Account Manager, Google Services Framework, and a few others (can remember them all), but those didn't do it either.
I have now also had an error message about Themes not responding - can't remember the exact wording. It's happened 2 or 3 times, doesn't seem to have any other consequences other than requiring me to acknowledge the error.
Could I have strayed somewhere along the installation pathway and inadvertently made this a dirty install?

You need to load into recovery and do a factory reset/wipe data, clear cache, clear dalvik cache. If you dirty installed (installed over another ROM that's not in the same version) you'll have problems with the ROM. If you're using an older cm7 or cm9 I'll suggest you update to cm10+ succulent.

I tried to go back to the beginning to see what I did wrong - hoping to fix the problem but also trying to learn. I'll explain in a bit of detail...
Tried to follow the process outline here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2037368. I was able to access root using NT16or8gbV47SDimagefile.img, but was unable to get any further as it kept saying "No files found" when trying to flash rom and gapps zipped files. After trying multiple reformats, partitions, etc, I abandoned following this process. (Of note, I did make sure that debugging and allowing installation from unknown sources were active - to no avail.)
I then followed this process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2056626. In addition to Step 6 - "Wipe data and factory reset," I also cleared cache and dalvik cache as suggested. Everything else went very smoothly. I've now been running CM 10.1 for a few hours without any error messages. I'll report back anything that pops up over the next few days.
I tried to improvise a bit and flash CWM recovery internally as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640958. I was never succesful using flash_CM9-10_CWM_6.0.2.5_8-16gb_emmc.zip, though I'm not sure it's really necessary. (In trying to do this, I modified step 2.b from Digixmax's guide - rather than using the recovery image from CM9-10_CWM_v6.0.1.2_8-16gb_tools_sdcard.zip, I tried using the flashable emmc.zip noted prior. In the end, I just followed Digimax's steps without modifications.) What do you think? Is there any reason to continue trying to flash CWM internally?
Thanks a million to all.

As long as you have SDcard-based CWM available for recovery purpose (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37515697&postcount=31) you don't really need to flash CWM internally. But if you'd like to flash it internally you can grab a flashable CWM zip file from Succulent's repo http://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim/recovery and install it using SD-cased CWM (just like you had installed the ROM/gapps zip files except there is no need for wiping cache/data & doing factory reset in this case).

Need help flashing Galaxy Payer 5.0 // EDIT -- FIXED

EDIT:Turns out I just needed to try some different ROMs. Everything went fine when I installed SlimBean 4.3, then Carbon ROM 4.4, then gapps. Sorry for the useless thread.
I have been periodically attempting to get a custom ROM onto my device for weeks: In recovery mode I would get error messages about failing to mount the external SD card, backups would all disappear, roms stored on the SD card would get an error message telling me the file was bad even after moving them to USB storage (and Kies won't recognized the device, so I couldn't even upgrade back to 2.3.6 after flashing the stock rom) ... anyway, after replacing and reformatting my external SD today I finally managed to flash CyanogenMod 9. That's the good news.
The bad news is that I'm missing gapps, making the new ROM kind of useless. When I try to flash gapps in recovery mode it gets far enough to show the ASCII art logo (whereas in GB it used to just tell me it couldn't open the file), then immediately quits with an error message along the lines of "build.prop not found". The same thing happens if I try to install CM 11.
Some things I've seen made me think that maybe I should update ClockworkMod using ROM Manager but it asks me to choose my device from a list which doesn't include the Galaxy Player.
I'm currently redownloading gapps in case that file is one of the one's that's been messed up by being put on my old SD card, as well as some other ROMS in case one of them will work (maybe if I try Jelly Bean instead of going straight to KitKat?) I'm not actually attached to installing CM in particular, in fact I'd probably rather try Carbon or Beanstalk, and really at this point I'll take anything that works.
So anyway, help would be really, REALLY appreciated here because I'm really tired of spending my entire afternoon downloading files only to have none of them work.

Re-rooting?

I have a Note 2 (obviously), and I have rooted my phone the first day I got it and have never updated the phone since I purchased it. So, I am still on 4.1.2. My phone has been super laggy and I want to take the oppurtunity the when I reset my phone that I can take advatages of the new features that mobile phones have by upgrading all the way to 5.1.x.
So, I downloaded CM 12.1 by wilson3q with 5.1 system. I first tried the 5.0 version since the 5.1 looked too new, and did not have time to deal with the bugs. When I flashed the 5.0 version, I got errors of not being able to flash gapps for 5.0 and that I lost my root. I tried downloading the new TWRP to see if I can get a newer version that would work better, but no luck. I got an error saying that I lost my root privileges and did I want TWRP to fix it. I slid yes to fix, but no luck.
The same problem occurred when I tried with 5.1.
So, I ended up restoring my nandroid backup and I am back on 4.1.2 again with root working again.
I am thinking that I am probably supposed to 'step up' the updates, but not sure. Does anyone have a solution or a link to the solution that they can help with?
PS: I did not like the camera that came with the new mod. I do like the stock one. Are there flashes of cameras that I can use as well when I do end up upgrading?
Thank you in advance!!!

Try Phiz recovery, I've never had trouble with "[I605][CWM Advanced Edition] PhilZ Touch". If I recall we had to start using that one when kit-kat was released (i reserve the right to recall poorly)

I assume that you are giving steps in order, BUT I feel that I should flash the radio to 4.4.2 first, in which the link was broken. I have spent a couple hours trying to find another link, but I am afraid that I may be using an incorrect one. Do you have a good link for that, please?
Also, I have ready the newest Samsung 3.10 Odin downloaded and installed, as well as the USB driver installed and downloaded the ADB fastboot. If I remember correctly, I am supposed to move this onto C: and run it to access the device (Note 2). It has been since Android first came out since I have used the ADB though. So, I apologize for the ignorance. So, do I just make sure the adb is in the same directory and run Odin or did I not need ADB and just run Odin?
I also assume that I run the Philz touch after I have gotten to 4.4.2 rooted first. Am I correct by assuming that?

Yes, I have done a cache/dalvik wipe a few times (because I have tried reflashing to get it to work with no luck).
I have downloaded the .zip version of superSU as well, and gapps minimal 5.1 with wilson3q's 5.1 ROM. So, I am almost ready to go with the exception of the correct radio upgrade file.
Thank you so much for your help!!! Much appreciated!
PS Will my old WifiTether apk files still work with 5.1 or do I need to get a new one?
Thanks Again!

Just flash philz from twrp. Reboot recovery wipe/reset... then flash new ROM gaaps... Wipe/reset... Then reboot.
I can post the radio zip to my site later tonight. I believe you can flash that last, or later (from philz cwm, after getting on cm12.1)
Same as superSU. Check out ROM first. It comes with root that can be enabled in developer options. you can always reboot to recovery later and flash the zip.
PS. WiFi tether built into ROM "hotspot" (no VZW subscription required)
Pps try this for the nd7 radios

Sorry to bother you, but I still am getting errors with Failed root access for Titanium Backup Pro. I also cannot find Developer Options in the settings menu.
I have tried flashing the radio before and after wiping and installing the ROM then gapps then superSU. I get into superSU and it asks me for root access and I grant it, but Titanium Backup Pro still says that it has no root access.
Any ideas? Thank YOU!!

with SuperSU installed, you may need to just need to update binaries. open SuperSU and it should prompt you if necessary. the "normal" option should work (no need to flash from recovery)
for TiBu...
--within SuperSU settings you may need to disable (uncheck) "mount name separation".
--You may also have to enable unknown sources (under settings, security).
-- there might be something to enable for USB debugging as well (TIBU should prompt for it)
FWIW, you can restore user apps/data... but I would not attempt to restore any system data. Personally, I have found it best to get to know a fresh ROM for a while before trying to restore crap from an older ROM . there might be value in re-configuring apps manually and/or restoring them one at a time (after making sure the ROM is working properly) i.e. you won't need any of those aforementioned WiFi tether apps since it is built into the ROM now.
Instructions on enabling developer options in CM ROM, from here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_developer_options
1- In the Settings app, select About Phone (or About Tablet).
2- Scroll down, and tap the Build number entry seven times. On the seventh tap, you will be notified that "You are now a developer."
3- Return back to the main Settings menu. Developer options and Performance entries should now be visible.

(that is likely how to enable superuser that is "baked" into the rom, given you already installed SuperSU it may only complicate matters)
You may be rooted and just having TiBu issues. If all else fails you can check with an app. A long time ago, I've used "Simple Root Checker" by SimoneDev to check root/busybox. It is still in the play store.
Good Luck!

Thank you! It ended up being my version of Titanium Backup. I downloaded a new version and it is good. As far as restoring is concerned, I do not even want the apps themselves restored from there, because there may be a new version and would like a fresh install of those apps. I just want my data restored. For example, I have a surveillance software that I would just like to restore the entries (IP's usernames and passwords). I would like my email settings to be there, so that I do not have to re setup my 7 email addresses. My Text/SMS messages and my alarms. So, I am not trying to do a full restore.
On another note, I am trying to get my calendars back into my phone with no luck. I cannot install google calendar and get my google calendars to populate into my task widget, and the ROM is not letting me set up my POP email addresses. Also, I see no ringtones, so I have no ringers to ring my phone nor tones for my alarm clock. I flashed gapps for 5.1 and I see nothing extra from the ROM. I thought gapps was google apps. Am I trying to do stuff differently than you? There seems to be a few problems in that manner that I am trying to work with.
I am thinking of downgrading to 5.0. Maybe the 5.1 is too new?
Again, THANK YOU for your help!

I wouldn't downgrade, nobody is actively working on 5.0.2 anymore.... that thread is basically dead. Also, it is likely less "stable"/mature than what you have installed now (that is currently being maintained). i.e. you have the ROM that I would stick with.
like I said I wouldn't restore any thing into system (apps or data)... you can do whatever you please. (but it could be causing you more issues than just biting the bullet & configuring manually) i.e. restoring accounts might result in unanticipated issues, you came from a much older version of android.
all I had to do was install google calendar from play store and then the CM12 calendar stuff all worked (I might have had to restart and/or install the google calendar prior to setting up primary gmail). you might need to remove all your accounts and load them again (a factory reset might be faster though.)
also you might have to update google services and the play store before certain things "play nice".
I know you don't want to hear this but...
from here on out i'll likely point to all your issues being based on restoring system data. (based on my limited knowledge and personal experience). FWIW, I'd try to reconfigure/setup everything manually and you will likely have much better results.

I figured that, and feared that and the same time. So, what am I flashing onto the phone with gapps then? Also, one of the reasons I was wanting to go back was because there are a few apps that are not 'compatible' with this system. Meanwhile, I am going to wipe and reset again, and do what you suggested and just reconfigure.
Thanks again!

GAaps are the google apps... good read:
http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps
(hopefully I am not out of line for posting a link to that wiki)
many ROMS like CM don't' include gaaps due to licencing/legal issues. which is why the AOSP roms devs often have you flash the GAAPS package separately (also you can pick your package for your fact pattern... full gaaps/minimal gaaps/etc.).
Also the gaaps zip files you flash from recovery install the files into system. a lot of folks like the minimal editions of GAaps because it doesn't force all the apps into system. instead it just gets you up and running with the play store and a few essentials... that lets the user install all the other google apps as user apps, from the play store.
basically taking the "debloat" mentality as far as you can... keep stuff out of system and let the user decide what to install.
