[Q] USB to PC Issue-Android 4.1.2 on phone ZTE N9810/Sprint Vital - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I have Android 4.1.2, which is stock on my Virgin Mobile ZTE N9810 phone that is 4gLTE. It is also called Sprint Vital on Sprint. On the Android 4.1.2--when I hook it up to the PC via USB; it does not show folders like the app ES Explorer does on the phone. My problem is that older versions of Androids showed all files and folders on my Windows 7 H.E. PC. This version does not. I need to access the download folder on the sd card but can't. On the PC in Windows Explorer, it does not show all folders on SD card, including the folder "Download." I have a video on there that i need to transfer to my PC, but because it's not showing that folder, I cannot transfer the file. I can work around that, but don't want to. I want access to the Download folder. Tried searching in Windows Explorer too and it comes up empty. Don't understand why this is so different than older Android versions. Also tried to get to it from the Phone folder verse SD Card folder. Still no luck and cannot find mnt folder either with Android 4.1.2. Even tried changing the USB connection option, like "Install Driver", "Connect to PC Software," and "Media Device (MTP)"-default option.
Note: If I go to Phone/Download, images and pdf files are there-even though they are on sd card-, but this folder with a video is not. Also, I have Show hidden files and folders checked in windows explorer.
So in summary, I need to access the SD Card download folder on my PC from my phone through USB, but it is missing and folders do not show the same in Windows Explorer as they do in ES Explorer on the phone. It is almost like the phone chooses what to displayon my pc.

Download files to PC on Hero?

I'm on dial-up at home.. is there any program or anything I can install on my Hero to download files onto its SD card (through HTTP or torrents) and then transfer them to my computer from there, without having to tether?
Simply put, yes this is quite possible. However, it's a multi-part answer.
From the browser/GMail app (among others) you can download certain file types. Other file types are supposedly not supported, but I'm sure there are ways around that. Perhaps the Dolphin browser would allow you to download any file type, but I'm not sure, I don't use it.
Once you've downloaded the files you want, simply plug in your Hero to your PC, then on your phone, drag the notification area down and click the "USB Connected" notification to turn on USB mode. This will essentially transform the phone and its SD card to a USB drive for your computer, so you can use Finder/Explorer/Nautilus to browse the SD card and copy any files you want. I believe the HTC browser puts files in /downloads/, other apps might use other locations.

Adding Files, APK to SDCARD

I have a few hundred apps on my SDCard from my MYTOUCH but I can't seem to find a way to put them n the SDCARD for my X10 using the SE PC Companion....I could just use the other SDCARD in my X10, but then the phone does not recognize my folder where my pictures are. I also have word documents on that SDCARd I would like to keep along with mybackup pro app back up files are there also.
Just mount the drive onto the PC so the computer sees your X10 as a removable drive. Then you can just stick the APK or whatever into the right folder through your PC. PC Companion is used for backup and restore for the most part. Not really transferring files, its not that efficient.
possible work around
you can't directly open files on the SD card, but you can use any file manager app from the android market to access the SD card and open files (APKs) from there
i personally use AndFTP which is also an ftp client

Help me ! I can't copy file from PC to Samsung T959 !

I'm using the Samsung Galaxy S T959 2.1 of TMobile
I have installed on my computer samsung drivers for mobile and Kies.
My computer is using Win 7 32-bit
Everyday, I plug the cable into my PC and choose Mount, after that I copy data from PC to Samsung normally
Today, when the cable attached to the PC, then select Mount, also appears that 2 drives H & I but I can't copy data to SamSung. When I copied, the PC alert :
Copying
Discovering items.....
Time remain : Calculating
Data Transfer : Calculating
How then is run from morning to noon without the copy is complete, although I only have a 1MB image file. Reset your computer and the SS, but still the same error.
So my computer is corrupted or SS that you failed? I try to connect your computer with the N95, the copy machine is normal.
please help me how to I can copy data normally ?
i had a problem copying files to my vibrant, I formated my internal 16gb memory and it fixed the problem.
i think its
settings>sd phone storage>format.
I would uninstall kies. I never use it. After you do that plug in the phone and you should then use the top pull down menu and it will have a connect usb icon and button. hit that it will then say connected and it will open 2 folders F and G or something like that one is the internal sd and the other is the external And do what the posting said format the external sd card if it is new or you have not yet. you can do it on the computer it would be fat-32 ONLY
If you have wifi you can use the app Wifi File Explorer. Costs about $1 for the Pro version. I use it all the time for transferring files. Very easy and works great. You access your phones storage using your PC web browser. No cables, no problems.

Thanks! I just tried that App. It works great. It doesn't seem to see my MicroSD card though, only the internal memory shows up (on my Vibrant).......unless I am missing something.

Shows up on mine. Look for the sd folder. If you see "Up To Parent Directory" at the top of the directory list click on it because you're not at the root directory level. From root you should see sd/.

Some Files Not Showing When Connected To PC

I am having an issue with files not showing up on my PC, that are in root explorer. I search the directory on my PC and and it doesn't come up.
By default, GS2 connects in MTP mode which only shows/transfers media files (videos and pictures). You will need to connect as Mass Storage mode in order to show everything. Go to Settings->Wireless and networking->USB->Enabled USB Mass Storage before you connect the USB. Then you connec the USB and hit the button screen to enable the storage. This way, the phone storage will show up as a external drive.

Thanks I was able to view the files on the PC, I just can't see all the files. I am trying to access the directory. data/data/com.com.2us.HB3D to replace a comlib.dat file. I see this directory in root explorer, but on the PC I can only see /data/datacom.com.2us.HB3D and not any other files.

maybe I'm wrong but I didnt think you can see all your files on sdcard due to security reasons. Only files that are in the "sdcard" folder, or whatever its named now

Figured it out just now, a while ago when clicking SD card in root explorer, it would come up with "SD card not mounted". So what fox told me earlier did work! I transferred the file I needed to "USB Storage", then went to "SD Card" in root explorer and pasted the file over.
i guess i was wrong. glad to see you got it working, though.

[Q] How to access sd card files in 3.16 from Ubuntu?

Since my recent upgrade to 3.16 (4.1 Jelly Bean), I've run into another problem...I can't copy most files from the sd card whe using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Prior to the upgrade (under Android 4.0.1 ICS), when I plugged the phone into the Ubuntu PC, a screen would pop up on the phone asking if I wanted "Disk Drive" or "Charging Only". I would pick "Disk Drive", and I was able to copy to/from the sd card.
Now, when I plug the phone in to the Ubuntu PC, Ubuntu identifies the phone as a digital audio player. I can look at the contents of all folders, but it appears that the only files I can open and copy are in the DCIM folder (camera). If I try to copy or open files in other folders, like my backups or Music folder, I get "Error getting file -6 not supported".
If I try to change the USB sharing mode on the phone from "HTC Sync Manager" to "Disk Drive" the phone folders disappear in Ubuntu and nothing happens. I've looked around for some settings regarding USB mode, but they seem to be gone.
Everyting works fine in this regard from a Windows PC, but I use Ubuntu as my primary home computer.
Are there any workarounds for this issue? I am rooted.
Thanks!
I found a great link to solve this problem in Ubuntu 12.04. I installed the package discussed in the link below, and sd card access works great! Apparently better MTP support is coming in Ubuntu 13.

Just to re-iterate a point in the post, be sure to unmount the phone after plugging it in and before mounting it with go-mtpfs.
