[Q] Wifi connected, but no Internet access (won't work) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an Asus Slider Sl101. Around 3 days ago, our router had been changes as the previous one wasn't working properly. Our carrier is Charter and our router is Netgear. We hooked every device up to that new router and everything worked fine, including the tablet. But later on in the day,the Internet on there stopped working.
It shows that it's connected, but when I try to access the internet through the browser, it does not work. The blue line at the top of the browser starts up, moves forward a little, and stops entirely while the browser then says "Webpage Not Available". Apps that require Internet, such as Accuweather and my SAT apps, fail to work as well. Other devices that use our wifi include another computer and Nintendo DSi and 3DS. They all work fine. Our router shows that our android is connected to it, as well.
I've tried the static IP stuff, restarted the router, left the wifi off on the tablet for a few hours, and turned it off and off. I even factory resetted it and not even that helped.
I apologize in advance if I haven't given enough information; that's as much as I know save for whatever I can include from the tablet (IP Address and such).

Try changing encryption method

I'm sorry, but what is an encryption method?
Also, I just went to Starbucks and the Internet worked fine, so I know that it's not the tablet that giving problems.

It can be modified from the admin panel of your router. Obviously, each connected device must be upgraded to the new encryption method.
However, you can simply do a test and see if the connection works

Oh! Under "security", it says "WPA/WPA2 PSK". I believe it has always said that, even with our old router.

Probably
If the problem is not of the device, many network problems are usually caused by encryption or are due to the channel where the router works. Both settings are settable in the admin panel.
Try changing these.. Remember to make a backup first!

The things is, though, my tablet was working when we changed the router. Ever since then, nothing has changed when it comes to settings and all. Every other mobile device is working well and the computer out front that uses wifi works well.
In your eyes, the router seems to be the main problem, right? Do you think if we call our internet provider--Charter-- and ask for a new one that it might be able to work as it will be new and all? Or will it most likely not help too much?

If the problem is the settings of the router, this will not solve the problem..
The device successfully connects to other networks? You can do this test to see if the problem is the device or not.

hi sir i have already hack wifi paasword but not connected
password is correct sometime before i have connect

Is the router 2.4 or 5ghz, and is the tablet the same?

connect to an unsecured wifi network?

does this work for anyone? i have never been able to on my 101
I have no problems connecting to my unsecured network at home (don't worry, there's only maybe five houses on my street that could even reach it!) How far can you get in connecting? For example, will it see the network when you scan? Will it fail when you try to select it? Will it select, but not have a web connection?

Never had a single issue. Are you sure it's not Adhoc or something? What channel is the AP?
i've been unable since i first bought it... and ive updated firmware and done full restores before.
it connects fine but doesn't actually have internet once it does. happened on a few different networks but most notably would be my phone when i made it a hotspot it would work fine if i put a password on but wont if i do it unsecured

I have to reconnect to my phone sometimes when using hotspot, seems like the routing breaks every once in a while, but I connect to multiple unsecured networks(actually using radius auth, but that won't change anything) on a regular basis. Sorry, I can't really think of anything that would cause that even after reformatting. I'd start looking at the dmesg logs for an error.

Samsung Galaxy S3 connected to WiFi but no internet connectivity

sup everybody.
firstly, i am a wireless expert (11+ years experience) so im not a nuubie to Wireless networks.
but i am new to Android and have just recently gotten an S3, so im hoping some body can help me.
i have an 802.11n wireless hop that connects my upstairs network to my downstairs network (internet router is downstairs)
upstairs i have an 802.11b/g access point for the older devices to connect to, this access point is connected to my 802.11n bridge
my laptop connects to the 802.11b/g network fine, and has internet connectivity (no issues)
when i first got the S3 last night, it was connecting fine as well, but since this morning, no matter what i do, the S3 connects to the access point, gets DHCP, i can ping the IP address, but it doesnt have net access, but if i connect to the 802.11n network it gets net access.
so for the life of me i cant figure out why.
so in a nutshell net access works from the laptop, but not the S3, same access point, and yes ive checked the WPA2 passkey, and the device is getting DHCP.
any suggestions.
like how to reset the IP address on the S3

Sounds like the default gateway route is not correctly received or activated. Do you have any computer/laptop with a promiscuous-capable Wifi card around that you might use with Wireshark? It should tell what exactly goes wrong.
Since you claim to be a Wifi expert I guess you won't need much help interpreting the result.

Try shutting off ur router.... Wait for a min or so then turn it bak on nd see what happens. I have an intellinet router which when the current goes off nd then on im able to connect to everythng except all google services (gmail, search, reader, syn, etc.) until i do the above. All my other devices connect fine in the meantime! Must be smthng with android....
- check the ip address.
- from device, ping its default gateway
- from device, ping external ip address that is known to response to ping
if all those works but you can't ping www.yahoo.com, it is resolver issue.
if all those including pinging yahoo works, and you still have no access, then the apps has issue or there is firewall.

I ´m very confused with this situation ... Twophones in a 3 days …

press menu key and select wifi
Disable wifi powersaving mode
You may need to repeat this upon phone restarts but it may well sort out your problem

This technique works for me but only like a temporary solution. Restarting the home router also works for me but again is temporary. This issue I think is with most galaxy s3 devices. I own a galaxy tab 10.1 and it's there in it as well. huge pain to check each time, critical notifications are always missed. Have switched to bluetooth internet sharing from my laptop to avoid disruptions as I just can't trust the wireless.

not working for me
None of both have commented on my suggestion to use Wireshark on another computer to see what's actually going on.
It's hard to guess the reason since by crystall ball is broken and it's nearly impossible to get magical artifacts in pristine conditions on ebay...
No Way.
But after reset the configurations, today in 3G mode al is fine.
In wifi it shows Conected in calennetwork, after this it show internet not avaliable via selected wlan ap. It can´t navigate.
In my router page , the received packets always change, for more data and the sent packets never change.
In the avanced configuration what is the Network prefix lenght ? In my XT860 and N97 i always select the channel of the router, but in the galaxy a don´t have this option.
But the strange, is that in the 2 galaxy s3 in the first day work im my router, and then after some hours it´s crash and not navigate...

I´m disapointed for it, because if i change the Firmware version i lost the warranty and i have bad feeling about this isues... Is a hardware fault or a software bug ???

You only lose warranty if you bring it to a store without original Rom. Just use the normal procedure (TriangleAway, Odin, Factoryreset) to get it back to stock and you're good to go. If your device has issues preventing it from booting (so you cannot re-flash original) they can't check the binary counter either
THancks for the help.
I will going to look for triangleway & Odin in the forum.
With my Motorola XT860 i made a lot of stuff: CWM, Custom Roms... but i dont´t know nothing about the S3.
Just some days reading here in XDA and a will going to know all that kind os Staff.
Sorry for the BAd English...
I'm having this issue. I think it has to be a firmware issue as I don't think I get it if I use CyanogenMod9 or 10 (but I could be wrong)
It really is very annoying and somewhat disappointing.
Hello Again!
I tested my S3 in others routers, and all the router that working without sharedkey (open network) my S3 can conect and acess the internet.
Test your phone with one and post for us here.
OBS: In my TP link TL-WR642G it can´t conect (with and without Shared key) but in the first day yes, i don´t understand it.
I will going to 3 school who has open Internet for all the childrens and this 3 schools my s3 conect and navigate in the Internet.
Thancks for the support, if anybody change the firmware and the phone come normal again, please comeback here and post for us.
I have this problem too.. since omega. Strange...'

Anyone with this issue, please try the following:
- Take a Nandroid backup of your phone (on the internal SDcard, restoring from external seems to be broken)
- Flash CM9
- Try Wifi
If it works, please report. if it doesn't, restore the Nandroid backup and report =)
Since CM9 is not based on Samsung-software, that should answer the question about it being an issue in the newer Rom once and for all.

[Q] Wifi not working after htc root method

Hope someone can help with this: rooted the other day using the htc unlocker method. so s-on with root and still stock rom..have not changed anything other than install busybox. no other changes. have not even gotten to flashing roms yet. So the phone will not recognize my home towifi. when it scans for networks, it sees everybody (neighbors) but mine as being in range (even tho i am sitting next to it). at one point i finally got it to connect yesterday, but then when i went to work it never disconnected and returned to 3g, so when i went to use my internet for something it said it was still connected, when in fact it wasn't. so no data and no 3g. I had to physically turn off wifi to get the phone to be able to connect to 3g. now i am back home, it will not connect again. the phone does not see my network as being "in range", therefore will not connect.
I have several other devices that connect to the network just fine (like my laptop I am typing on).
any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
There's an app called WiFi analyzer and WiFi manager available on the play store. Idk y it isn't connecting to your WiFi now when it did before, but maybe one of these 2 apps can help.
WiFi analyzer will tell u what channels thw other WiFi networks are on in your area. It could be an issue of interference. It will also tell u the best channel to put your WiFi on to avoid that interference.
Do u have best WiFi performance on in settings-WiFi? Turn it off/on see if it makes a difference. Off is optimal since it kills batteries.
WiFi manager helped my phone recognize and connect to open networks quicker than stock settings did. Maybe try that as well.
Is your connection password secured? WPA/WPA2, WPK? Is it a linksys router? Try making a static ip for your phone. My phone would never connect at work on an open network until I made it a static ip. Or it would connect and never send data.
Actually, try that first, I forgot about that. If its an older linksys router that's probably what it is.

Root doesn't have anything to do with your WiFi. It is highly unlikely anyways. Google how to set up static ip. U can do it right from your phone.
Your router doesn't show up at all or does is try to connect and nothing? Mine tried to connect and nothing. To set up a static ip your phone needs to at least see the router.
If you're rooted are u s-off? Either way, try installing a rom of your choice and doing a full wipe to clear out whatever is causing the issue. Maybe try installing new radios/firmware. RUU to newest ota version.
Good luck!

downloaded wifi analyzer, but that doesn't really help me figure out why the wifi will not connect or disconnect properly. As stated in my original post I am rooted, s-on, with unlocked bootloader htc method. this problem is almost exactly the same problem i had my samsung s2 when it first came out. the radio would not wake up after sleeping and the wifi radio was all messed up. In exactly the same way..
once it connects it is ok, but when i leave the house it never disconnects! so when i go out, it does not switch over to the 3g radio, and at that point i have to TURN OFF wifi. When I come back in the house then i have to go through another long process of trying to get it to connect to my wifi again. I did not change ANYTHING after rooting. So it has got to be related to that somehow....it just says. "MWOI0 not in range", but yet it will show 5 others in the neighborhood as being available (all secured like mine).
Does your regular computer/laptop connect to your wifi?
Have you rebooted your router/modem?
We had a power outage/surge one day and the computers connected still had connection, but the items which were disconected (phones left house for work) would not reconnect.
I know it sounds simple, but we spent half an hour figuring out why some devices had wifi and some didn't.
You are seeing neighbors wifi's, that's why I suggest this.
I also noticed this other thread, maybe related,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691189
There's an app called tasker in play store that allows u to turn on/off wifi by location automatically. It costs a pretty penny, but definitely worth it. The possibilities are exponential with that app.
Look into setting a static ip & change the channel on your router. Give u advice and u don't want to try it. Do u really want it fixed or is it just an annoyance u like to complain about?
Static ip worked for my phone in a similar situation. Up to u to implement the fixes.

6.0 wifi issue ideas, thoughts and workarounds

Hey everyone, I wanted to put together a thread focusing on wifi issues of different variety and what we can do to potentially fix or workaround the main issues
I personally have been working on a solution for the discrepancy that disallows me to connect to my enterprise wifi at work, lollipop and previous versions connect just fine. So far ive found this issue. May not be easiest nor even possible for some of the issues some of us are having, but i think its worth working towards solutions.

What wifi issues? You might need nrw router.
I was able to connect via guest, then they had lock it due to bandwidth consumption. I have password since im a supervisor and my other phone (5.1.1) connects just fine. The nexus says saved, but when i click connect nothing, doesnt say obtaining ip or authenticating. Credentials are correct and connected before to same network without lock

Interesting, I just read through a lot (more than I can believe) of that issue log. It sounds like its technically not a Google/Android 6.0 problem even though the problem arose with the upgrade to 6.0. Have you considered doing what Nick suggested and reaching out to your enterprise IT administrators at work to see if they can or plan to do the necessary updates?

Yeah it connects to others but all devices lollipop and older including iphone and blackberry connect fine. And its known that android m has issues connecting to some wifi that works fine with all other devices. If you do a quick search youll see basically all 6.0 devices (nexus 6, etc) have same issues once updated to 6.0 (hit or miss depends on network they try to connect to, but same story just fine before update). The IT dept are not going to change settings on their network that works fine with 99.9% devices that people have there, since im only one so far with a 6.0 device (IT request MAC address when you get pass) it obviously is some sort of security policy within the os or something of that nature

Yeah, they are hesitant to change what works for almost everyone that connects to it. Also i think itd be a good thing to work on since most IT admin wont change for the very few with newer devices
On a side note i do feel like its more or less a cop out of them to claim its not 6.0 fault because when push comes to shove it works fine but once 6.0 it doesn't and nothing changed on the network
When I had my Nexus 5X, I had issues connecting to WiFi at home until I used the Network Settings Reset option under Settings > Backup and Reset. I think this issue came from the restore of settings during initial setup. Possibly worth a try.
Still, the issue I'm running into now is that my 6P only connects to one of the two routers at home. I have both broadcasting the same SSID though they're different brands and one's an older G router. On my Moto X running 5.1, the phone would connect to the strongest signal. Seems the 6P will only connect to one and never connect to the other. I've had the phone "forget" that one and connected to the other and then it refused to connect to the original. Very odd.
My point in saying this is that I wonder if there's a similar issue occurring in the OP's office. Though the same SSID is being broadcast, its as if the phone remembers the MAC address of the specific router it originally connected to and refuses to connect to any others. Just a thought.

Just tried and sadly it didnt work
Tell the IT dept to upgrade their radius auth
I'm also having WiFi connection issues with eduroam (an often used protocol in UK universities) amongst other including my home dual band ac network. It locks out and can only be resolved by a reboot, which then takes 30-60 seconds to power off. Not normal or 'just an admin' issue. It seems to be software related as it is not constant nor predictable (ie it's not in certain areas and a reboot always reconnects). I'm unconvinced by the 'speak to your network admin' argument as it is neither useful or realistic and incompatible on my current patterns of usage or the issues being reported more widely.
My 6p works fine on my wi-fi router at home, but when I go over to my son's house, I have to go into Advanced Wi-Fi options and change the frequency band from automatic to 2.4 GHz only. Then I have to cycle my wi-fi off and back on. Then it will work on his router. Otherwise, it with keep trying to connect and fail every time.
Rob
Yeah, these are the issues (including the issue im having) that im talking about. Theres clearly issues with wifi on 6.0. Its not an issue with the hardware, nor is the solution "buy a new router" or "must be the settings on your companys network" granted most people can connect everywhere they've tried but if they tried where we cant connect or have issues they'd have same problem. Im thinking its a problem due to security policies or something along those lines but we should be able to alter, remove, or opt out of them at our own risk. Just thinking out loud.
Which build are you on? Mine ends in k. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3248499

Wifi Connected But Can't Access to Internet

My phone is HTC 620G but I think its not important because I've factory reset it and it didnt help. The problem is I'm connected to wifi but I can't access to internet. Sometimes I can but its way too slow, way way slow so as I said I formatted the phone but it didnt help. Waiting for your help
edit: I dont have any problems at other devices like laptop or phones but my phone...
edit2:When I connected to wifi near any device, the other devices internet connection got lost, its been so annoying i wanna get rid of this issue immediately
2.4 or 5ghz? What encryption ie wpa wep open? Can other devices connect to the wifi? Is the channel congested?

Have you tried going to maccas or wherever is a free wifi near you and seeing if the phone can connect to something other than your router?

Sorry forgot that,i was at my cousins and it was working perfect, problem is only at my home
I realised something now, i entered my gmail account on laptop and it sent my phone a notification, when i opened it I saw that one of my last connected location is Ireland. I didnt download any vpn apps so why is this saying that?
You might want to check the router settings. Some routers have a default limit on how many devices can be connected at once. It sounds like either that or IP address conflicts.

It could be about ip address because there isn't so much device, so what should I do? And I think it could be about dns settings, I tried something for that but couldn't solve it
