That would be the point of a return to stock tar...
But for what it's worth, rooting with cf root is very painless and then just flash recovery in Odin or goo manager.

can this be used from any point your phone is on. Meaning can it be used from any custom rom, even aosp (when devs cook one up?) or even if softbricked?
you just probably have to factory reset for phone to boot correct?
also does this bring back stock recovery if you were running a custom recovery?

Yes, this should be safe to flash in Odin regardless of the Rom you're on. Yes, this is a return to stock mj4. It flashes the modem, firmware, radios, kernel and recovery. This is everything back to stock mj4.

I don't think so. You can always flash previous version here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040264 and get it OTA updated.

You should never use *228 on an lte device. It usually cooks the sim card. I would go to stock and probably get a new sim now. A ROM usually can't affect signal unless it's an AOSP ROM, but if that's the only variable changed then it would make sense to undo it.

If you are just rooted with stock ROM and your bootloader still locked then it is a matter of just removing some files, ie. SU, busybox, ect..
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think you can even odin back to LJB if you accepted the update because the LL4 Bootloader will prevent it and may brick.

If you're rooted, I assume it's as simple as using a root explorer, and navigating to /cache. Copy the update file to your external storage card. This has to be done before you attempt to flash the update (it will usually fail, anyway, if you have a custom recovery, or modified /system). The file will be deleted from /cache, also.

Note 3 no service after odin flash

So something went wrong when I was trying to flash a rom last night and I got stuck in boot loop no matter what I did, long story short I had to odin flash stock note 3 NAB using this and now I have no service. Under status, the IMEI, baseband, etc. are all unknown. I have tried 2 different stock .tar files, as well as flashing just the modem with no success whatsoever. Can someone please help me, I must have done something wrong to not get a signal or anything after flashing.

Something has to be wrong the os will reboot every hour and I get a lot of messages saying hangouts, YouTube, or other Google Apps have stopped. If it makes any difference I was coming from cm11 to 4.4.2 stock when all this occurred, I did a clean wipe before any flashing

It makes a difference, to what extent I'm unclear.
I think that that you may need to do a complete nuking of your entire internal and external cards, or at least pull the external prior to doing the one-click.
AOSP roms were hewn from that which resided on our phones at the time they were originally released, that being 4.3.
You're upgrading to TouchWiz KitKat, and you may have traces of the old OS spread across your device.
One wouldn't think that, but I'm unfamiliar with AOSP roms, so I'm merely using inductive thinking.
Perhaps one with knowledge of those roms could weigh in on this.

You do that, and then flash the one-click. Sorry if I didn't answer sooner, but you didn't quote me, so I wasn't notified via email that you asked something.
You'll have to reroot, and reinstall TWRP, but you'll be back in business in no time.
It's my understanding that once you're on TouchWiz KitKat, you'll be able to go back and forth from AOSP to TouchWiz with ease, but the first time it's this or nothing.
I hope this helps.

Update: So I nuked my phone (removed sd card, wiped every check box possible, even hit format data), and used rwilco's one click (redownloaded a new copy). Good news is the error messages I was receiving stopped as did the random reboots. Bad news is I still have no service... Anyone have anything that might help me out? At this point i'm using wifi/google voice to text and skype to call, but it kinda defeats the purpose of a cell phone when I can only use it at home/work.

You need to contact Sprint and have them reactivate your phone, or at the very least update PRL and profile.
You should have data back within fifteen minutes, as that's how much time it takes for it to propagate throughout their network.
Sounds as if somehow your MEID has been taken off of the grid.

Use the tar provided by freeza, for this one situation, there is a small chance the one-click is not getting you there.

Also, try updating your PRL via WiFi, or flashing same.
Finally, let me know if you have a clean backup of your EFS.

Please tell me if you have a good backup of your EFS. Doesn't matter if from Jellybean or KitKat.

[Q] sprint note 3 modem crash

hello xda members! i am in a rush as i am on my way to work as i post this
but i'm running on freeza's very wonderful note 3 rom and recently (as of last week) i keep getting modem crash errors. out of no where,
i've taken some screenshots and hopefully these are helpful. ive only seen it actually happen once, every other time the phone isnt in my line of sight.
it happened while i was reading manga from my phone. any other time the phone is dormant.
i greatly appreciate your time in looking at this, and hope there is a resolution. i am very new to this entire proccess and was helped this far by droidmodderx and wwjoshdew
Am I posting in the wrong place? Id like to take this to the development section but my post count isnt high enough and I dont spam. Is there anyone that can at leaat give me a hint?

Flash back to stock with odin and reroot and install recovery .... then see if it still does it ... could be hardware issue or stay on stock for a couple days and see ...if it's hardware get it replaced otherwise it could just be a bad software issue that could be fixed by starting over ...

Ok will do thanks! This didn't occur until maybe a week or two ago so I can't be sure of the cause. I'll find a guide and see if I can figure out how to do all of that.

i would like nothing more than to do just that, specifically in the thread that i got the rom and what not. but sadly and understandably one must reach a 10 post minimum before posting there...

Just started having the same problem. I even unrooted me phone went back to stock and when I root again I get the same message. I have been rooted for 6 months now. I don't know why it started happening today but would like help fixing it. Have anyone figured out a fix to this problem yet?

After looking for fixes what worked for me was flashing twrp recovery
hltespr-recovery-4.4.img.tar
Could you post a link for the TWRP recovery. I just had a modem crash for the first time today. I thought I was on the latest stable TWRP version, but if there's another one that may be better I'd be ok flashing that.
Mine did this the other day as well. Happened while using TomTom...has not occurred again. Running fre3 also.

You've been getting modem crashes on a regular, sustained basis? Are the moments repeatable or unpredictable?
I've had them when completely stock with only root, and when running stock DeOdex, plus when on custom roms, on both NABD and NC5D (ie, before and after WiFi calling).

Very unpredictable when they happen.. I cannot replicate. They've all happened since flashing the NC5 engineering bootloader. Once i had 3 in a row all back to back about 5 to 10 minutes apart.
I've contemplated flashing the NC5 developers bootloader but from what you've just told me, they'd probably still occur.
Right now they occur maybe once every or every other week.
This never occurred while i was on stock NAB
