0% battery meter error during charge - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sprint Galaxy Nexus
For the past few weeks, I have had a weird charging error where the phone would be charging on the ac charger for a while and then suddenly show 0% battery. When you remove the device from the charger, it immediately shuts down. However, restarting the device clears the error and it will show 100%. This occurred right before the 4.3 update, but has persisted after the update as well. I have tried a factory reset but that hasn't fixed it. See the screenshot below.

No, haven't tried that. Never flashed a kernel or ROM. I have rooted, but that is it.

Oh, I asked because I had a similar issue, but it was related to a custom kernel.

It could be also a hardware problem/failure.
I've experienced some problems with a bug from in systemUI under 15% and 1% of battery level but it didn't affect the charging process and battery level in any way.

strange things happening with my HD2

hi, i have latest energy rom. since last 2-3 energy roms i have a problem with my battery. it drains very fast and when i charge it, it also charges very fast! in half an hour. for instance, right now, i put it on charge, and it flashes green and yellow, the battery shows 100%. when i take the charger out, it shows me 74%. what can i do?
im also using the same rom, what radio did you use? im using 2.10.50_8.2 also charge fast buat discharge normally
i haVE THE same radio like you
flashing charge light usually indicates faulty battery or charge control circuitry.
any chance of you trying another battery?
you can also try completely draining the battery, get rid of the last dregs by trying to power on a few times, then charge on mains for a good few hours.
BUT draining the battery completely may just result in not being able to use the phone at all till you get a new battery maybe the half hour you are getting now is too important, and you should try another battery first.

ah well, sounds like an issue with the phones charging circuits then.
Before confirming as a harware issue just try this,
1. MTTY,
2. Flash to stock.
3. Check the battery issue with stock ROM.
have no clue how to work with mtty
same here
Hi similar things happens to my hd2. I try to charge it the entire day, and nothing happens, it goes only for 10-15% up, then after one call or two it goes down very quickly.

1. Just download the file.
2. Backup your data in device.
3. Switch off device. Put your device in bootloader by switching on your device holding your volume down key.
4. Connect to PC and wait for serial to become usb in device screen.
5. Run the file & follow the steps.
6. After restart, remove battery.
7. Connect in Bootloader again.
8. Flash Stock ROM.
Just in case, try reflashing HSPL. It matters sometimes

Any other ideas?
Pulled my battery to shut it off.
Started the phone, shut it off, and it stayed off. Weird!
Thanks for your help.
its not off, it's underclocked so low it can't even wake up the screen, higher your min clock speed to 600 and see if it still happens, of try removing setcpu or that other one that starts with a T.. whichever you use

I have the same problem, instead of switching off it just reboots, even if I power off from recovery.
What kernel are you using. I'm using Ninphetamine 2.0.5, with VillainROM 2.4.2, with Black Android Theme.
I'd rather not pull the battery, after seeing how flimsy the battery cover when I put it on first, I decided I'd try to avoid fiddling with it if at all possible

Doesn't work: it turns off, stays off for 2 seconds en boots up again.
I got same problem. Never flashed, never rooted. Got original 2.3.3.
I think I#ll try to flash it to fix it.
got a similar problem. probably not related. after unplugging it from a full charge, the phone kept making the "USB connected" sound. when turned off, it would do one of two things: display the big battery charging indicator while flashing the overheat indicator or turn itself back on.
while powered on, the battery icon will change from charging to not charging. I checked the USB socket and doesn't seem to be malfunctioning and there isn't anything shorting out the contacts. so far now, the battery level is at 87 percent after 48 minutes not in use. and now it's not making the sound anymore. I suppose the battery is malfunctioning.

I got a mixed-up thing of the issues on this topic..
When I take off the power socket, the symbol that shows "charging" remains there, and also, it is completely impossible to turn off the phone..
Whenever I turn it off, hard, or standard mode, it turns on again after 2 seconds..
And even if I remove the battery, I put it on again, and then it's back on in 3 sec....
Uh, and when I plug the charger in, when the battery is completely discharged, I have to take it out and back in , several times, before anything appears on screen, and even when it does, there is a temperature warning sign , and a yellow one which usually appear...
I'm getting very frustrated since I just paid 5000 nok (920 USD) for this phone..
And while I really begun to like Android, I guess I'll have to switch back to iPhone with a 4S, or to some better android device, since yes, the gs2 is cool , but I can't stand such issues, since I do run business things, and the phone is of vital importance for me, and not just a console/browsing crap.
Has anyone got any solution on this issue?
It would be crap if I had to send it to service, since it would take a lot of time, and I would have then to buy another temporary phone in the meanwhile...
PLEASE, HELP!
I had this problem, i cleaned the USB port out but that didn't stop it, but i think it helped. I then drained the battery to nothing and it has now stoppped. It's a battery problem, as it didn't switch off like it does when it hits low battery it just died. The battery readings were also inacurrate and every now and then it would do a weird thing like flashing it was charging, but it wasn't. I tried software etc.. and clean wipe before i tried the hardware, so it wasn't the rom i was running. I think the battery is on it's way out, so I've bought a new one.

Did this actually help? I had all the symptoms everyone has been describing and sent it to Samsung for repair. Their response was that the phone was stuck trying to download a PRL update, but as soon as I got the phone back from them and charged my battery to 100%, removing the phone from the charger caused everything to start again. I'm not entirely sure it is the battery, but have no other ideas.
USB charging port is dead.
Buy a new one on ebay and replace it.

Hi all.
Had similar problems about one month after getting my s2. I have unlocked sim card, rooted it and flashed some kernel, shyah i think. And left it with stock rom (Android 4.0). As it was under warranty i reverted completely to stock and took it to the carrier. After one day got it back but they said it had no problem. The fact is that i could in fact turn it off again. After a few days it was back so i flashed a custom rom (resurrection remix at that time) and never had it again.
Now I'm with alliancerom and apolo kernel for a few months and never had it again.

[Q] Phone stopped reaching a status of "Charged". It never goes past "Charging".
I'm running CM7 Weekly 4, and all of a sudden, the phone won't ever reach a state of "charged". In the past, this was not a problem. But now, no matter how long I leave it plugged in, it doesn't go any further than "Charging (94%)".
Note that this is NOT a complaint that the percentage doesn't go higher. The issue is that the status never reaches "Charged" anymore.
Does anyone know why this happened and how I can fix it?

Have you tried reflashing the ROM to see if that worked. I do that one myself. You can also try an xda search for battery calibration techniques because there are quite a few out there. I would try that before you flash the ROM over.
Sent with Tapatalk from my Blackberry Playbook
I haven't tried reflashing - this was a small enough issue that I was hoping to avoid that.
As for the battery recalibration, didn't we have an official explanation that showed that to be bogus?
It doesn't hurt to try right? Some of calibration techniques worked for me.

i get the same problem on cm9. I've heard its a problem with some roms. Maybe you could try this
1. charge until it goes no further
2. take off charging
3. turn off the phone and take out battery
4. plug into charger until question mark shows
5. insert battery boot into android
After i do these steps mine shows 100% charged.

That fixed it perfectly! Thanks! The only question now is how long it will last before happening again.
Okay, the second question is - is this procedure harmful to the battery or phone in any way. A little late to ask, but there it is.

[Q] Battery stuck at 0%, need battery replacement?

Suddenly my phone won't charge. Do I need a new battery?
Here's the details ...
Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100)
CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightly (10.1-20121229-NIGHTLY-i9100).
I've had it for almost 2 years.
If I leave it plugged in, everything works fine. I can boot it up and use it normally. The lockscreen display and status bar indicate that it's charging, but it stays at 0%. If I unplug the charger, it shuts down right away.
It also seems warmer than it should be while plugged in, but I'm not certain that's part of the problem.
The results are the same whether I use the charger or a USB cable connected to the computer.
There's an immediate reaction when I plug it in or unplug it, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the charger or the port.
I've tried removing and re-inserting the battery with no change. I've also rebooted it several times... it shuts down when I unplug it anyway.
It just happened today, and I haven't installed or updated any software in the last several days. I have auto-updates in the Play store turned off. So it's not a software issue. The ROM was the last thing I updated and that was on the 30th.
I think the battery is really empty because I can't power it on at all if it's not plugged in. So, it's not just that the battery level indicator is wrong.
Hopefully, all I need is to replace the battery, but I was hoping someone here could confirm that or suggest what else might be wrong.
Thank you.
Check contact pins see if they are bent away or have crap on them. If not it sounds like the battery is dead, but I assume you already knew this.
I had already checked all connections and didn't find any damage or other problems. I bought a new battery today and that seems to have solved the problem.
Thank you.

I needed to write because this topic is on top on google results. I've lived the same today. A while ago i had a sudden battery decrease issue. There i was suggested to remove the battery and wait for a while. I tried this today. Removed the battery (simcard and memory card also... i just felt desperate). Waited for a while (i gues it was about half an hour). Plugged to charge. And my battery contiued charging from %61. I just showed wrong level.
This issue is happening to me too=/ but it happened to both my batteries in the space of two weeks

hi i have the same problem. i bought a new battery as mine was kaput. then a few days after that i needed a new charger port. now my phone wont turn on manually but when it is on charge it will randomly turn on for 10 seconds with 0% battery and then turn off. i tried doing the reboot with the power, home and vol up button but nothing happens. do i need another new battery?
I don't think it's the battery. I think it has something to do with these custom kernels and ROMs. I've been battling this problem for months with no results.
- I have a new battery, new cable, cleaned pins.
- Tried Lollipop, CM12 with kernel, one or two other kernels.
- Tried various KK ... CM11, Dominanx Kernel, some others too.
None work properly. I love all the updates but it's I just can't pin the problem down on my S2. I'd love to know what else I can do because I think I've exhausted all possibilities. Maybe JB is the only option? I dunno.
Help would be great on this.

Hi,
if you think the problem is custom ROMs then why don't you just go back to stock ROM and try?

I thought it might have been the pcb. I replaced that too but even that didn't completely revive the battery life. Went back and forth between JB and various customs mods to no avail. I ended up selling it for parts locally
Loved that S2 but it was time to walk away from it

I also had the same problem once. What I did was, went to recovery mode and charged for 1 hour and voila,it was charged till 21% only sadly. But by then,it has never rebooted like that!
hey ive also had a similar problem in which my j1 (Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016)) started to randomly shut down or restart around 2 months ago. Then, the battery would start jumping percentages like 100%, to 54%, then 33, back up to 84 in around 10 minutes. Then when I tried to charge it, it would stay at 0% and when Id unplug it, it would say 100% and shut down. Around late last month i ordered a replacement battery, it came in yesterday and worked fine up until a few hours ago. Now when i try to charge it it would stay at 0%.
Solution
1.Turn OFF Phone
2. Pull battery out
wait few sec
3. Connect charger
4. Put battery in
5. Turn Phone ON
Working for me. If not prob replace battery :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Randomly Not Charging

Hi all
My N7005 (similar to I717 except without NFC) running Carbon ROM 4.3.1 randomly just stops charging. It normally charges normally, then occasionally 'charges' without increasing battery power (battery drops like it isn't charging)
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks!

Have you tried removing your battery for a couple of minutes? Mine was acting up a while back. Ended up have to flash back to stock nandroid backup and reflashing everything. No issues since then. It could be that your battery is crapping out though or your charging port is losing connection.
