[Q] Harshjelly 3.2 - tethering not working - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi to all, i'm a newbie on this forum, and i know this may not be the right place for this 3d, but i don't have enogh messages to write on developer topic.
I've a strange behaviour on my galaxy S advance.
I've installed Harhjely 3.2 with cocore 8.2 and CWM, with HJ 3.0 all works fine, i've upgraded to 3.2 but tethering is not more working.
Doesn't work neither wi-fi and bluetooth tethering.
I found the problem but i don't know how to fix it.
essentially the problem is on the dhcp server,
I'm able to see wi-fi connection from different devices to my phone, i can see on the tethering table the mac address of my pc and the ip address reserved to it, but the pc doesn't acquire the address and after a lttle it assigns itself an ip from PIPA netwoek (169.254.0.0/16 ) and so is not able to use the phone to go to internet.
I tried different devices (many laptop with different OS, tablet and others phones), but no luck, dhcp server is not working properly.
Any idea how to fix it ?

still not working
i tried to update to 4.0 version of harshjelly, but no luck, tethering is still not working.
i put here a log taken with logextreme during tethering process (device is able to connect, phone seems able to give it an ip address, but no one ip address is released), so please if any of you is able to give me an hand i'll be extremely gratefull.
Tethering is crucial for me, if i'm not able to make it working, i need to revert to stock image that i hate, but tethering works...
Please help me:
many thanks

Clone MAC address

Hi,
I have strange internet provide that lets only one MAC address on network. Long story short, I have to change a Wifi MAC address on my 8525. Any ideas?
I would prefer something simple, maybe a simple aplication to do so.
I have read post like
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=322225
but, it is complicated, since I need to be able to change it back to original on daily bases with no access to external computer.
Thanks

Sadly that's the only way it can be done; the WLAN MAC address is stored at a fixed offset within the ROM - the post you mention above is a guide to patching the ROM to update it with the required MAC address.
Mark.

1 thought as my cable provider is like that to a certain regard,
Get a wireless router. then register the mac of the router with the provider, everything else is transparent to the provider as it would appear to come from the router ans is all ip based, aqs no Mac based services ( ie: netbios ipx/spx ) are used on the internet only on local network
hope this helps

last i read, its kernel related and cant be supported till the bootloader is cracked which will allow the dev's to load a custom kernel.
Yes they can be complied as kernel modules. The issue you have is not iptables but netfilter being loaded and configured. I've noticed the need as anyone who has installed Titanium backup has. Bin4ry is the kernel commando here.. maybe ask him for a custom kernel and buy him a case of beer
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
I'd love to see that too, just for Wifi Tethering (barnacle needs it too... :-( )
If you find something let us know, thx.

Barnacle works fine including with WEP as-is without netfilter or iptables. The last couple of Barnacle updates have made it extremely reliable.

Wut??? That would be great...
I only manage to get it to work with https protocol, no http.. Tried with several different ROMs, always the same.
I'm gonna try to see if I can find any info on that.

It's always worked fine for me, except about 2 months ago there were a number of Barnacle builds where WEP didn't work. That's all fixed now.
Here's the settings I use:
- WEP: Enabled (ASCII)
- Custom Wifi Ad-hoc: none
- Skip wpa_supplicant: Yes
- Auto Associate: No
- WAN: rmnet0
- LAN: wlan0
A neat new feature is that you can have "Local Mode" where it doesn't need 3G/HSDPA so you can create your own little adhoc network for file sharing.
I then start SwiFTP and Gladinet (running in background) on my laptop maps the \sdcard\DCIM folder to Z:\Android in Windows Explorer so I can import my photos into Adobe Lightroom.
Or you could map \sdcard\music and sync with MusicBee or another music player that allows copying to network drives.
I quite like Barnacle
Unless this thread is about an active development idea, program or effort, it should not be posted in the development forum.
Moved To General as this thread does not involve above development requirements.

Thx for all the info, but i tried with your settings and mine, and i still have the same problem : all works fine in https, but i always get error 403 (permission denied) in http.
Slight difference with your settings : Barnacle shows an error message : NAT Restart : permission denied.
I'm starting to think it's my provider (SFR) that blocks this... possible?
EDIT : Think i'l open a new thread in the appropriate section if I can't find anything. Thanks for helping.

[Q] Working Ad-Hoc for Gingerbread 2.3.4 - is it possible that nobody can solve it?!

Dear friends,
I have searched tens of forums and googled requested for a days,
but I didn't have chance that find any answer
And it seems that nobody speak so much about that problem here,
people are in race for newer and newer firmwares,
is it possible that nobody can't find the way to solve that problem and succeed to modify wpa_supplicant to work on new Gingerbread 2.3.4?
I can't belive that I have 500€ phone witout possibility to use ad-hoc WiFi at my home
Download this file - http://www.mediafire.com/?ap3alfyf2asu1ca
Disable the wifi...Copy-paste the file in system/bin using root explorer... reboot the phone...done, your phone running KG1 can connect to ad-hoc networks
oops.. i just tried on KG1. Didn't connect to an adhoc network setup with WEP.
I even set the properties of the file like:-
owner: Root Group: shell along with proper file permissions.
Still no working.
Huh, god knows, maybe it depends of type of installed ROM.
Galaxy S2, Lightning ROM 2.2, rooted, exchanged downloaded wpa-supplicant with original without changing any owner properties using Root Explorer and Mount R/W and R/O option,
and - it works, after reboot, sure.
I heard that gingerbread 2.3.x does not support ad-hoc wifi but froyo 2.2.x supports it!!!!
There is a file in the sticky thread. wtf it works fine. Im using it on M250S - 2.3.4
delete the file first ,than paste the new file back ,reboot
guys, is there any conclusion from this thread? i'm getting desperate too

Working on stock KG3, Litening(all versions),Villain(all versions), others i didn't test...
I tested using Bzeek wifi hotspot creator on windows Vista, if you can't connect to WEP, try Bzeek, its open network but password is needed to use it
I have the LG Optimus 3D and I wanted to use my old WinMo phone as an ad-hoc server. I searched a lot and finally found the solution:
First of all you need a rooted device.
Go to Market and install "ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher". Run this program everytime you want to connect to ad-hoc.
The device acting as server needs to have its SSID to "AndroidTether" and require no password.
Don't forget to revert back to "infrastructure" mode after ending your session otherwise you won't be able to connect to normal hotspots.
There is no guarantee that this will work on all devices. Just try and see...

[Q] Connected to AP but can't browse the net

Dear friends,
I have SGS3 with stock ROM and not rooted it yet.
Other devices can browse the net thru my router; but not my SGS3.
It's also configured as DHCP server.
Please help me; and please asked for any missing information.
tia,
Bram
Are you sure you're fully connected to the WiFI?
Check the information in Settings->Wi-FI (and click your access point).
It should say Status Connected, and show a proper IP address at the end.
Problem solved....
Hi saigai,
thanks for replying.
I found out that it was my bad....
the other end of the LAN cable was bad.
thanks anyway...
Problem solved
PS: Dear mods, please close the thread... thank you

Mac Address

Would anyone know why a ROM would not produce the correct mac adress and just leave it as blank? Because if you do not have a Mac Adress you cannot connect to any wifi network... any help would be appreciated
A did a quick google search and found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121151
another thread said something about the kernel flashed to many times, but I doubt that is the case.
