[Solved] Why does it weigh so little? - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

How come the Kindle Fire HDX weighs so much less than other comparable Android tablet? How did they do it?

Maybe google play has weight issues?
Seriously tho the nexus 7 2013 weighs less at 290g vs 303g.

The Nexus 7 is also 2" smaller in size...

You didn't stipulate the 8.9" version

Indeed I didn't. My apologies!
But perhaps you have a point there. the 8.9" is a good inch smaller than most other (10") tablets. Maybe that 1 inch makes that much difference?

That's what the girls tell me...

(Specs taken from DisplayMate's review of the screens. I am not allowed to post links.)
Ipad Air weighs 1 pound with a screen area of 45.16 square inches. That's .0221 pounds per square inch.
Kindle fire HDX 8.9 weighs .825 pounds with a screen area of 35.6 inches. That's .0232 pounds per square inch.
The Kindle is no lighter than the Ipad Air, just a little smaller. The real question is why the other android tablets are still so heavy.

Id wait to see if a 7" Nexus tablet is goig to be released. If i were to want one that is awesome in that form factor now I would say the Samsung Galaxy 7.7 or the 7.0+.

The tab 7+ is a crappy tablet. Overheats, crappy TW lag, no ics, case creaking etc.
It has been discontinued already.
Acer has a new 7 inch that is below $200 and has ics
and a tegra 3. The A110 seems worthy for the price.
Personally, I would love to see what the nexus tab is gonna be like.
I would wait and see what the Nexus 7 Tab will be like.

Tablet to complement note 2

I'm looking into getting a tablet. The new nexus 7 intrigues me but is the size all that different to the note 2? What tablets do you guys have? Do you find yourself using it over your giant phone?

My wife has the galaxy tab 2 7.0 and I play with that one. I don't like the size compared to my note ii. But I do plan on getting the new nexus 10 when it comes out.
About her galaxy tab. It feels too small. Like its not a tablet but a phone. As ridiculous as it sounds. She likes it because she can easily store it in her purse whenever we go anywhere. That's always a plus, but she does also only have a 4.3" phone so its a big difference in screen size to her.

I'll second the notion posted above, that the 7" tablet is kind of pointless when you have the Note 2. For what it's worth, since moving to the Note 2 I no longer use either my Nexus 7 nor my full-size iPad. I seldom need anything but my Note 2 and my laptop, which spends most of its days docked in my home office.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 4
Now that I have the Note2 I rarely use my touchpad running android. If/when it dies I will probably replace it with a Nexus 10. The weight difference between the 2 tablets will probably cause me to use a tablet more often.

I have a first gen nexus 7, and recently I bought a note 8. The note 8 is what I reach for the most. The nexus was too small and rarely used liked the other posters point out. But the Note 8 is the perfect balance of size for me. Note 8 development is not the best, but I like TW so im running stock rooted on it. The fact that it has a sd slot helps a lot too. The price is higher though. Something else to note (ha), I do use the spen a lot. If the spen is not a selling point for you on a tablet, it may not be worth the extra cost. Good luck tablet shopping!

I have had the Note 10.1 for about a month now and find that it goes well with my Note 2. I was on the fence about just rooting and flashing my Kindle Fire HD and using it, but I also thought what's the point of using a 7 inch along side the phone. I have been happy with it so far and running TW on both helps.

Yeah right. No way it will be 249. The nexus 7 is 249. The nexus 10 will have to probably be same as first version. 399 for 16 GB and 499 for 32 GB. (Maybe you meant euros?) I don't know where your from but I'm talking about dollars. Anyways I think 100 bucks for 16 GB is too much more. But the cheapest variant will most likely be 399.
If there even is one because it hasn't been confirmed its just being assumed there will be a new version. Google could just make a whole new tablet

I know it won't be 249... thats why I said I seen an article stating 299. That doesnt make it true at all though. No one knows so I told him what I've read, I highly doubt that price as well.

Yeah... No way Google is gonna downgrade the display, that's one of their sales points for the n10, its 2560x1600 (something like that) display

I've also seen articles saying 299... makes me question the quality of the tablet if it's set at that price.
For Snapdragon 800 I believe it's true, also 3GB RAM too. Now 1080p screen? Are you kidding me or what? Nexus 10 made it fame for its 2560x1600 screen, which is the main point for me buying mine. Also another thing we need to know is who will produce it. I wonder if will be Samsung again or Asus, if Samsung, it's pretty sure we will see an Exynos processor, like the current Nexus 10.
I don't mind paying 399 or 499 if its well built. I'd take that over a 299 device that's neutered for sure. I'm hoping there's a 64gb option.

Pretty sure it's been confirmed to be ASUS.
There's no way the new Nexus 10 is being released for $299. The new Nexus 7 was released for $229, which was $29 more than the original Nexus 7.
I'm guessing $399-$429 for the base model.
The screen will be 2560x1600, since the new Asus Transformer Pad Infinity (TF701T) has a 2560x1600 screen. No sense for Asus to make a lower res screen for a new tablet.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the new Nexus 10 is just the TF701T without the keyboard.
Do you think the Nexus 10 2 will in fact be released this month or next month?

I think theyll release nexus 5 this month and nexus 10 2 next month

Yeah that it what I was thinking as well. I need a tablet now though. So its either a Nexus 10 or a Asus Memo Pad FHD. The Nexus is about $360 and the Asus is about $300
Nexus 5 will be unveiled in October the 14th. I can see them unveiling the Nexus 10 2 as well just like last year. Remember last year's unveiling was delayed by a hurricane and when the unveiling came Google produced all both devices and 4.2 at the same event.
It will be kit kat, N5 and N10 all on the same date I'm pretty certain.
Roll on the 14th.

You cant wait a couple days?. Anyways ive heard asus build quality sucks and support is even worse. Go with nexus 10

I think my Nexus 10 prediction may be wrong as there have hardly been any leaks yet and there have been numerous nexus 5 leaks.
I think the Nexus 10 will be released in November. There is a redesign of the Play Store to accommodate tablet apps on 21st of November which may coincide with a tablet release.

No I can wait about 2 weeks. I need one by the end of this month. I do have a feeling though that they will only release the Nexus 5 this month and the Nexus 10 2 next month towards the end. Then I would have to pick a tablet before then.

Nexus 10 is better choice out of the 2 you asked about. If you like windows the surface pro is pretty cool

So the Nexus 5 came out on Oct 31st but still no word on the Nexus 10 2. Is this coming anytime soon or even exist? I really hope it comes ASAP because I've been waiting about 2 months for this thing. My only other options are the Nexus 10 2012 and the Note 10.1 2014

Is it still a good option?

As nexus 9 is manufactured by htc and there is no more htc products being sold in my country (Samsung literally put htc out of business here) and I will travel to Orlando on the 25th January, I ask you:
Is nexus 9 a solid purchase?
I ask this question because I am struggling to choose between nexus 9 and z3 tablet, so what are your thoughts on this?
I've had bad experiences with the 9 although by far the best tablet I've ever used

I Went from a xoom(on launch day) to a nexus 10(week after launch) to the nexus 9 and am very happy. I thought after years with a 10.1 screen I would hate the smaller screen(i had tried both model nexus 7s) but since I mostly browse the web it pretty much renders text the same size because the nexus 10 in landscape always wastes a lot of screen one each side with blank bars. Very happy with its performace but wouldnt mind a 9.7 screen like the ipad and touchpad but its a great compromise with portability compared to the bezel king nexus 10 and chunky old xoom.
