[Q] Root 4.3 or Update to 4.4 ---Help! - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Greetings all! A newb I am. I updated to 4.3 today. I run apps that require my phone to be rooted. Can someone give me some steps or point me to a reliable link as to how to root (to stock) my HTC One running 4.3
Or...
Should I update to a 4.4 rom, and if so, which one?
Thanks in advance!!

[Tutorial] Root, Unlock, Recovery and flashing a Custom ROM

Thanks!!! I thought I had updated to 4.3...I downloaded the update but it did not install. Is there a tutorial for updating a rooted device (i.e., going from 4.1.2 to 4.3)?

[Q] Root and OTA updates [GSM]

Hi guys,
Someone can tell how to unroot from motofail root in 2.3.6 stock rom??
I'd like to update to ICS via OTA when moto begin roll out, and i'm not sure this will be possible with root.
Do you know something??
Tnx
You'll need to provide more information before any one will be able to help. You may also want to check to see if there's a dedicated forum for your device.

Thanks for the tips...
I have a GSM Motorola Razr with 4.0.3 based rom, with also root and cwm recovery
When official update from Motorola will be released, I'd like to update via OTA from 2.3.6 stock rom with root (I've a nand backup obtained with cwn recovery).
Do you think root on 2.3.6 could deny the OTA update.
I hope I was clear about the problem
I saw that root doesn't affect possibility to update via OTA from stock rom.
Is it true or not?
Someone can confirm, please?
Tnx

Not sure that system update has a lot to do with root. First of all, you need to check if there're official updates for your device. And then, it's quite risky to install unofficial system updates (if there're any).
thanks for your answers. At the moment there isn't official update for my device...So i would to install a new cooked rom, like ICS... It's possible on my phone?

That depends on the ROM and the requirements it needs. You'd better consult ROM developers in this case.

[Q] How can i return Nexus 4 4.2.2 to stock running 4.4?

HELP PLEASE
I have seen the nexus 4 unroot toolkit, but i need some help.
I have a Nexus 4 running 4.2.2, TWRP, and Franco.Kernel.
i want to upgrade the Nexus 4 to 4.4 KitKat, i never had the chance to upgrade to 4.3 because i was rooted.
I do not mind loosing my root, franco.kernel or twrp, i just want to be able to get the new updates that are being released from google, and OTA if possible.
it is super important to me that i don't loose my apps and data.
Sorry if the question seems foolish/dumb, i am not an android expert. :silly:
I will give this thread 1 more try

Update:
I have recently flashed the stock kernel for android 4.2.2, and by my little understanding, all I need to do is get rid of my custom recovery, and then I will be able to upgrade OTA without loosing data.
Is this correct? If so, where do I find stock recovery? Is it the recovery.img file inside the android software zip?
Btw. I couldnt find anything on xda about this.
Please help me out, all help appreciated.

Can I downgrade HTC ONE M8 from 6.0 to 5.0 or 4.4.4?

Hi guys I have an AT&T HTC ONE M8 and it was rooted and running 4.4.4 and TWRP and then something happened to it which caused me to go RUU and restore the device and unroot it and everything. Then I was on 6.0 and rooted it with the HTC ONE M8 rootkit and flashed SuperSU and TWRP on it and currently its still running rooted 6.0 with TWRP, I don't like marshmallow and I want to downgrade to kitkat or lollipop. My bootloader is unlocked and I am S-ON! Please someone explain very thoroughly how I can downgrade as I am not 100% tech-savy as we speak.
Thank You Guys So Much!
You can simply TWRP flash a 5.0 based M8 ROM, or restore a 5.0 backup and it will work. I believe the same is also true for 4.4.4. But not 4.4.3, as it is not compatible with newer firmware (hboot, radio, etc.). And you need s-off to downgrade that firmware.
Be aware, whatever you think you are gaining from downgrading; you are losing by not having years of Android security updates (patches to vulnerabilities, etc.).
Thanks Mate! Can you redirect me to a 5.0 Rom?

Not specifically, no. You can search the ATT Dev section for 5.0 ROM as easily as I can. Or if you don't need or want an ATT based ROM, you can also look in the "international" Dev section: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development
Also, ROMs which have been updated (Android 6, 7) may or may not still have links to 5.0 versions.
Alternately (and probably easier to find) just restore a stock TWRP backup of a 5.0 ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
You don't need (or want) to restore the data partition, so it is essentially the same as flashing a ROM (although getting the files to the right location is a bit trickier). Also, no need to install stock recovery (as getting an OTA update is not what you want). Then root if desired.

Newbie help with updating while keeping root

First, I had a rooted G3. Never updated it. Now, I have an H830 (T-Moble) variant. I've been rooted since I bought the phone and have never updated because I don't know how to do it without losing root. I'm still on software version H83010d (Android 6.0.1).
From what I've gathered, I just download the .zip in here and install via TWRP and then flash superSU afterwards?
I'm not completely sure what the talk of modifying boot.img or removing recovery-from-boot.p...
My reason for updating is because I want to try the Fulmics ROM or any optimized ROM for that matter. I had one on my G3 and it ran so much better.
But then as a follow up question, is the update process the same from a ROM? Do you just flash an update over the Rom and then re-flash the ROM?
Any links or answers are appreciated so I can finally figure out how to update while retaining root on my devices.
