help needed - OTG cable, with a twist - dual micro and usb A - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I think I have checked every OTG thread there is and I have either missed it or it does not exist.
I am looking for the following
I have a nexus 7, a 2.5" travel HDD with micro usb and a travel charger with normal USB. I would like to connect the lot together so that:
the tablet can read files from the HDD
the tablet gets charged from the battery pack
What I would need is for a micro USB to connect to the HDD with micro USB, and to the charger with USB A male.
Is his something which is:
a- possible
b- available
c- DIY hackable
I have already (but do not allow a minimal amount of cables, and connections, as with these below, I either have not the full solution, or yet another connection which can drop/brake/unplug during operation

Mod for TV out?

I know that SG2 is only supposed to do TV-out via samsungs proprietary cable and that TV out via headset output is not enabled. Is there a mod to enable it? I´ve tried the same nokia cable that used to work on GS1 and I could only get sound.
I just got an official samsung one from Ebay for $15 and it works perfectly. Sometimes it pays not to be cheap
Nah you can only use TV out through the micro USB port. I bought a generic adapter off eBay. AFAIK it is not possible through the headphone jack and no hack will make it work.

where is the setting for tv out?
how to connect to tv?
I´ve found a lot of regular USB to RCA cables on ebay, but I didn´t find any MICRO USB to RCA.
The GS2 has MICRO USB port, right? Or is it Mini?

[Q] is it possible to connect an external hdd without usb kit

I was wondering if its possible to connect an external hdd to my prime without using the dock or usb kit.
I was thinking about using the supplied cable with a usb female to female adapter or a use to mini usb adapter.
is this even possible?
Thanks,
Amit

ASUS Extension Kit - USB-adapter
My question was whether I can connect an external HDD without this adapter, but using female to female usb adapter or usb to mini usb.
they don't sell this adapter in my country yet (they started selling the prime about a month ago) and I wanna know if I can manage to connect it without this adapter.
Your cable proposal should work - the only thing is to try and keep the cable as short as possible. I think the USB spec. says something like the minimum transmission speed must be met with a 5m cable

MHL Pinout/Splice up HDMI and Micro-b cable?

Is it possible? I just got an AppRadio2 and would like to install it this weekend. I don't have an MHL cable right now, and don't want to wait for Amazon shipping. Is it possible to cut up an HDMI cable (I've got a dead one lying around) and a micro-b cable and solder them together?
Bump, no one knows?
cannot splice HDMI & Micro-USB together
my apologies to mods if i dug up an old thread
to the OP..
NO you cannot just simply splice them together, there is a special chip that interprets the MHL signal from the phone,
into the proper HDMI signal to output to your HDMI source..
this example of a SIMG MHL Adapter that i am incorporating into a NFC smart dock for my Xperia Z Shows the MANY components involved..
see below IMG file
as you can see by the external ports... on the top side is the internal micro usb charging and power supply, left side is the micro usb input from the phone itself, right side is the HDMI output, bottom side is the IR receiver
and in the middle, the lil black chip is the SIMG MHL decoder microchip

Hi there.
Bought a "simple" USB to micro Usb adapter like this one but it doesn't work.
Is "the OTG cable" a special one ?

I guess so
Thanks for answering.
Actually it seems some adapters are "OTG certified"... So next time i'll look at it.
After "a quick search on xda", shame on me, i didn't do it before...
Saw this topic, with the "homemade tip".
[fingercross]I'll try this evening when back from work.[/fingercross]

320Go USB to SATA is not recognised. Surely the NTFS...

3.0 OTG cable

I was just browsing Amazon, and ran across a 3.0 otg cable. Has anyone got this? Just wondering if it is any faster than a regular cable?
I think I might get it, since my ferret decided to use mine as a chew toy.

It'll only be faster if you're using a USB 3.0 peripheral (e.g. flash drive). Given that USB 3.0 external hard drives are more common than USB 3.0 flash drives, this won't be a benefit for most people. 99% of flash drives in people's pockets are USB 2.0, which means whether they use this cable or the normal microUSB (USB 2.0) version, they're still going to be reading and writing at USB 2.0 speeds.
thanks, may pic one of these up.
I have it and it works great.
Ordered one.
