FoxFi wifi tether works with VZW HTC MAX - HTC One Max

Just paid 8 bucks for thd app after trying the free version.
sent from my humongous VZW HTC ONE MAX

Is it still working after booting it up more than once? I've used FoxFi before on my Note 2 and it worked great the first time. But then after that said for me to contact my carrier to enable tethering.
I'd rather use Wifi Tether for Root but apparently there's a problem with it working with 4.3?

Yes working perfectly fine

On Sprint, it say I don't have the hotspot plan

It's worked perfect since I've got mine and still working. I actually downloaded it on the corporate stores demo unit to make sure it would work and it did so I knew I was good to go. Don't worry I deleted the evidence after lol.

Wireless Tether already on the phone? Free?

I'm switching from the Nexus S and found out last night that the Nexus S lets you use the Gingerbread wireless tether for free (for now at least) because they didn't find a way to block it from working.
Is this the same thing on the EVO 3D?
I only saw the Sprint Hotspot in settings which doesn't work without subbing obviously. So I'm guessing they removed it or I am missing where it is.
The nexus s is a "pure Google" phone which means sprint didnt/wasn't aloud(?) change anything in the android OS. That's why wireless tether is still there for free in the nexus s. The EVO 3d however has alll of sprint's bloat etc., including a locked WiFi hotspot.

Nope, gotta pay to play on the 3D.
Has anybody tried calling sprint & actually complaining about this issue? They may give it to you and just waive the fee on your account... Might be worth a shot

I don't think it's something Sprint is gonna give you it for free. Hotspot has never been free, I wouldn't call in to complaint about it.

It will be free to root users soon enough. Let Sprint make a few bucks off the non-rooters.
Okay oh well no big deal just wondering. I'm actually waiting to get the EVO 3D right now. I barely used tethering on my droid but it was really nice to have when I needed it. I probably won't need it before its rooted anyways.

Once root is gained Wireless Tether is the way to go...and its free.

Try the "Pdanet" or "Pdanet Tablet" app to use through bluetooth. Works great for me using my Nook to tether to my 3vo.

[Q] Wired tether?

Has anybody had any luck with a wired tether app? I had one on the epic and loved it better than wireless tether since it would help keep the phone charged. I had a backup of the apk that I used on the epic but it wouldn't work on the photon. I know of pdanet but would rather not use it since wired tether app worked great.

Why not? PDANet works great.
Cuz pda net does block some sites and with the wired tether app u don't have to install anything on your pc

I personally use EasyTether on my phone. And i have my parents, in-laws and various family members using it too.
I think its $4.99 on Amazon's App Store right now. Its normally $9.99. It is available on the Android Market too.
I like EasyTether because you dont need root and they have a client (computer) program for Windows, Mac, and Linux. I use linux regularly and so i needed it to work with that.

have you heard if this is allowed by sprint or if they will be throttling back data if they find out we are tethering?.just asking because sprint no longer offers tethering but instead has the 29.99 hot spot package, unless its a corporate account.i want to switch over to sprint but im worried they'll cut off my data connection if im not paying for the hot spot feature.
Ive used 10GB so far this month.. No issues.

Tether question?

Is there a way to get 4g on tether.
I am rooted

Unfortunately for now the only way that I have found is to pay for the Sprint Mobile Hotspot. I was Fortunate enough to have been Grand Fathered into Unlimited Mobile Hotspot Data because I have been a customer since 1997 and was not to thrilled when I was told it was going down to 5GB per month. I called Sprint, ended up speaking with a Retentions Manager (Politely) and she took care of me and kept me at Unlimited Mobile Hotspot Data. I was really upset and let it be known I would take my 3 lines to Verizon.
I had it for FREE on my OG EVO but needed Mobile Hotspot when I moved over to the Photon.
mine works through open garden tether.
Perroype3 if your phone os rooted. You can use free tether hotspot wifi from your phone to laptop. Go head search wifi tether app from market. Even with 3G or 4G
Good luck

Give that a shot. I haven't tried it personally, so let me know if it works for you. Should, if not, I can link you to a couple other free ones I've found.

Which tether app works for you? I tried many and doesn't work

I have AT&T Note with stock ICS (rooted of course). I tried many different tethering apps and so far none of them works. I have tried, for example,
- FoxFi
- Wifi Tether for rooted user 2.3-beta1
I tried to change the configuration, such as these:
- Change Device Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
- Change Setup Method: Netd (master) - DO NOT use Netd-ndc
The problem is that the tethering starts, other device (laptop, tablets, etc.) can see the hotspot network, but it's either:
- No traffic sent
- Network is slow, like 0.1Kbps
I know it's not the Note or the other devices connecting to it, because:
- When tethering is running (FoxFi, Wifi Tether, etc.) I can still browse the Internet from the Note (not from other device) just fine
- All the other devices (laptop, tablets) can connect to the Internet when connected to other Wifi (home network, Clear hotspot, etc.)
So which one works for you?
I'm non rooted ICS and FoxFi has always worked for me. Have you tried the new version? It limits how long free users can use the app (not sure how much) but it might be worth a shot...

Did you sideload FoxFi? It's no longer shown from Google Play app in the Note, I only see the Key App ($6).
Do you not have the tether built into your rom? I have always just used the "stock" tethering under setings menu.

I thought this is only of you have the tethering plan with the carrier? Wouldnt they force me to pay for the tethering plan if I use the built in app?
I don't tether much, just in emergency like in airport.

Hello, go here: www.foxfi.com/bin
This will download the latest version of Foxfi to your Note. It does state that there are some limits to free usage but I don't know if that means it cuts you off after fifteen minutes or what. I also have a previous apk of Foxfi somewhere in my Note's download folder that doesn't mention a need to upgrade to the paid version.

Normal $30 plan / month... "unlimited" data for use on the Note. AT&T told me tethering cost another $20 / month.
I just freeze "Tether Manager" with TiBu and it works perfect..
*Seems I didn't.. don't see tether manager in my list anymore.. I suppose it just works for me..
Say it, Don't spray it.

Not that lucky; I had an unlimited plan too. AT&T began throttling after unlimited plans went over 3gb. I never did but I knew someone who was throttled. It took two minutes to open a text email.
Don't take this as criticism of AT&T, everyone throttles now except for Sprint. And I've had nothing but great experiences with their phone and data service, customer service, etc. I really like AT&T but didn't have a need for their unlimited plan anymore. I'd rather pay $10 if I go over 3gb than be throttled.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
I've been throttled once, and it wasn't that bad - the speed would be normal for the first few moments of a connection and the slow down. So small data transfers were fine, but streaming video etc. was not.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
I use the one built into my room on cm10. Works perfect. At&t hasn't throttled me nor have they added a tethering plan. Everything works very perfectly.

Oh man! I just remembered my colleague was on T Mobile. That was insane, render your phone useless throttling. Good to know AT&T leaves some basic functions alone with its throttling. I may be in the minority but I really like AT&T and have always been well served by them.
While a part of me really dislikes the idea of throttling I can understand how some people killed it for us moderate users: another colleague of mine used to stream Netflix all the time, download torrent files and tether to his laptop constantly at home. One month he used more than 80GB.

It's actually 5GB for our LTE Notes. The older 3G plans are 3GB. Personally I don't want to pay another dime, and I rarely go over about 3.5-4GB/month, but the one time I did, I'm glad I still had data without having to pay another $10 just to get a few MB additional (I barely went over).

[Q] Is there a native hotspot mod for this phone?

Coming from the galaxy and was wondering if there is a native hotspot mod for the one max? Was one for the galaxy 4. If not any recommended tether apps?

PDAnet from JuneFabrics
There is a tether app which has an excellent hotspot feature (called FoxFi). PDAnet from junefabrics.com . PDAnet bought out FoxFi. It may be also available on GooglePlay . I think I saw it there. I have used PDAnet on many generations of phones (two Droids and the HTC Thunderbolt), but the FOXfi Hotspot feature didn't work on my phones previously (only the USB cable would work). You will need to pay for the pro version to get hotspot (I think it's a couple of bucks and well worth it). I was quite pleased to discover that on the HTC ONE Max the hotspot feature has worked perfectly every time I needed it. Also Bluetooth connection ability worked as well when I tested it. It's still nice to have that cable connection in situations where the hotspot doesn't function (evidently that can happen in areas where there are many wifi signals, I'm not sure).
Ok cool thanks will try it
