[Q] How to flash and install ROM on coolpad phones? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Being gifted a Coolpad 8180 Chinese Phone (Android 2.3.7) with no google play or rest of the usual functianalities,i have been struggling to crack it and flash the ROM.Most of the tutorials and the forums in the Web have been tried and tested but still I am stranded and wondering how to proceed.Being a Noobs does not help
My challenge and mission is two fold
1)Clear out the existing firmware and apps in the phone(most of them are Chinese) and reinstall a new foirmware and android version
2)Would it be possible to test and maybe install KitKAt 4.4 in it considering it has the basic minimum requirements such as 512 RAM to run it
Any one can give some helpful advice, would be highly appreciated

I8552 Chinese - No Google Play Solution with Change of Stock ROM

Neewbie here,
Have a quick question. UK user, purchased a Chinese Samsung Galaxy Win (dual sim) GT-I8552. Unfortunately, I dont think its going to come with the Google Play app.
Im not interested in installing custom roms, custom recovery modules etc, all I desire is to be able to access the Play store to restore my purchased apps on old Android phone!
Is there any way I will be able to install a Stock from FROM A DIFFERENT REGION to the Phone, or am I stuck with no google play or having to install a custom rom (which I believe from searches, a stable version doesnt exist at present for the I8552!). I am planning on using the standard Samsung Tools to install the Stock ROM from a different region.
The phones specs and hardware are identical, apart from the Internal memory, which is 4Gb as opposed to 8Gb on the non Chinese model....
Thanks in advance, as a newb I couldnt post this to the Dev side, if any Android XDA developers could repost in dev if I dont get an answer on the general forum....
Thanks in advance!
Download it as APK

Without installing any ROM or doing anything dangerous, you can get the APK of the Play Store.
Here is a link for the latest one as for today (4.6.16) : goo. gl/IF8SoA
Download it and open it from your phone and install it and it should work.
If it didn't work, you have other alternatives such as Aptoide.
If you don't have the Google Play store, then most probably you don't have the Google Play Services package. For this, you may need to root your device and install it as a zip, or google Gapps for your device and download each APK by itself.

Also I am unsure whether or not I've downloaded the correct fastboot drivers. A direct link to the site to download from would be useful. Thank you very much.

hello
could you please explain more clearly how to proceed to install the kikat rom? thanks
Need help installing.
Can I get some clearer instructions on how to install the Walton Primo Z rom? The instructions found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/stock-vanila-kitkat-rom-iuni-u2-32gb16gb-t3045629 were pretty confusing to me and i'm not sure if I've installed the correct fastboot drivers. More detailed instruction or even a youtube video would be greatly appreciated.
I have the same issue!
It loses the focus as soon as I try to take the picture.
It works fine when I shoot macros and objects flose to the phone but it completely messes up long distance shots.
There is an android 5.0 ROM, Is this ROM can run in iuni u2? It is ROM of allview x1 mini, allview x1 and iuni u2 32gb just like twins.
Is this ROM really???
Using the system update tool inbuilt with this Walton Primo Z rom
Thanks for sharing this rom. Works like a charm on my iuni u2 32 GB. Just need a small favor, the system update inbuilt app that came with this rom does not allow me to update the OS, it throws out an error saying network anomaly, please check network everytime I try to update.
There is also an option to download the update package and run the update through the same tool. Can some one point me to the latest update for this rom??
Many thanks and keep up the great work. This is rom is way better than the IUNI V 3.0 both is function and stability.
ROM flash noob - IUNI u2
Trying to flash this ROM however when entering the flash recovery recovery.img command I get the message " 'flash' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Any advice for what I am doing wrong?

User abihakim in another thread mentioned that this soft improves battery life significantly ("With help of Greenify&Amplify battery is superb!") - can users of this ROM confirm that?
Also, did any of you manage to get this ROM work on 32GB version of U2 ?
Iuni u2 rom site
Sorry for posting here but being a new member i cant post somewhere more suitable.
Since many of iuni u2 users are searching for alternative roms for the device, i am posting a site i have found with many options to experiment with.
Just google "romzj iuni u2" and use google translate, i am currently using the latest miui rom posted(15 days ago) with 4.4 gapps, and it works really great, smooth, gps locks quickly, decent battery life. The only downside is the camera quality which is worse than the stock rom's, but i am ok with that.

The method described in this video works with any rom: youtube.com /watch?v=FhxhSq4UgRs
You can find the latest kitkat miui rom to download here en.miui.com /download-290.html
If you want nearly stock android experience , there is one posted here androidiani.com /forum/tutti-gli-altri-smartphone/472647-rom-per-iuni-u2-fix-fotocamera-e-gps.html#post6954828
I used google translate as i am not italian either, but i know that this rom will keep the 32gb storage and 3gb ram since i've used it. The best think about it is the preloaded google apps , i haven't seen the message: Google play services have stopped(ok the play store crashes once a month). Also it uses hola launcher as default, but i switched to nova prime.
Sorry for posting the links this way but i am a new member here.

Help updating tablet's OS.

Good Evening/Hello/Hi,
I own a Huawei MediaPad 10 Link Plus(16 GB) and I am running stock OS (Android 4.2), unrooted. I am a total stranger when it comes to upgrading OS through bootloader, but I have successfully rooted a phone once, a very long time ago ( but I had no idea what it did and I don't remember how) . So I would like to ask for help on how to upgrade tablet's OS to the newest version that is possible on this device ( I mean it's got 1 gig of ram and a quad core cpu, we can get more juice out of it can we?). I can find a bunch of useful information here, but it seems I am having a hard time finding specifly what I need to accomplish my task. I know that the newest version that's officially possible is Android 4.2, but an unofficial version can be even higher right? The stock OS seems to be super laggy and filled with bloatware and an ugly UI.
I would like that the new OS would be as close to stock Android as possible.
Thank You
I tried to find a custom ROM, but it seems as if there are none really. I also read somewhere that it is not possible to even root the device, so you may have hit a bit of a roadblock. The best thing you can do is install a custom recovery and try to build your own ROM (I know, I know). You'd have to do quite a bit of work since there aren't many files available out there for the device.

Huawei Matepad T8

Dear Friends
I have bought a Huawei Mediapad T8 and I am trying to find a custom ROM to flash it. Unfortunately there is nothing on Cyanogenmod site.
If anyone has any reference site where I can find ROM s for this model please share it with me.
Sincerely
Konstantinos
Mediapad T8 has android 10 - so it can be part of Project Treble since it is 8+ - it means, you can flash GSI (generic system image) of many of custom roms and no need for certain full rom.
But, I guess, you will need to unlock bootloader and got permissive kernel and probably need to remove encryption for user data before got bootable custom rom.

Dear Friend
Thank you very much for replying to my thread. I admit that it is the first time that I heard about GSI (Generic System Image). I am looking for a custom rom so I can use the Play Store that is now missing from most Huawei devices. Unlocking bootloader is not so hard , I can get the code from Huawei in 7 months from now. Dealing with the GSI is something that I can not manage to be honest. I will wait for a custom rom. Thanx again.
Sincerely
Konstantinos
@coa00kt
Actually there are more than 10 Custom ROMs available:
https://fossbytes.com/android-custom-roms/
Dear Friend
Thank you for the link. Which one is for Huawei Matepad T8? I can't find anything.
Please help

@coa00kt
Take note that any Android OS ( Stock ROM and/or Custom ROM ) you intend to install isn't device's model/brand dependant, but on device's CPU architecture. Almost all Android device's are powered by an ARM CPU.
Dear Friend
I am a noobie. Which ROM do you suggest for Mediatek MT8768 chipset (Octa-core 4x2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.50 GHz Cortex A53)?
Sincerely
Konstantinos
@coa00kt
Can't recommend any because I never used a Custom ROM: I have reasons for this.
Dear Friends
The main reason that I am looking a custom ROM is the advantage of using "Play Store". Otherwise Huawei Android 10 is just fine. Please help me find something that will work 100%. Otherwise I will stay with Huawei Android 10.
Thanx again

Dear friend,
In the meanwhile you can use GPStore alternatives like Aurora store or ApkPure or ApkMirror for apps that can not be found on Huawei's AppGallery.
On the other hand, you can install about 8 to 10 apps from Huawei phone/tablet (before US sticky fingers) in the form of backup and restore them to your tablet. Tutorial like this is simmilar for all phones. Also found some backup on GDrive for HiSuite or usb restore.

Hello Friend
I have installed APKPure , it is very usefull. About 80% percent of the applications are running fine. Unfortunately about 20% require the Google Play Services. I will stick to this solution until Huawei provides me the Bootloader Code (After 12 Months) and a custom rom is created .
Sincerely

Hi
You can just flash GApps pico. It installs Play Store and Google Service.
Do you know if Google apps pico require an unlocked bootloader? What is the process? Do I have to install custom recovery?
Hello.
Please, can someone extract the original apk from the notes and post here? I accidentally deleted mine and now I can't find it. Thanks.
Hi there, i managed to install a google account and a working playstore via this youtube tutorial, and google services is working outside of an irritating notification which you can turn off.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZVF9W-H228
The only thing is i don't know if i can upgrade firmware with out losing google apps again i'm on firmware 10.0.1
How to unlock the bootloader?

i wouldnt recommend installing a custom rom that is not specifically for your device, especially if you are a noobie. the devices appart from the SOC have many components that require specific drivers. in any case, you have to be extra carefull in following the instructions otherwise ou ll end up with a brick. your best bet is to find a recovery (again for your device) and flash open gapps.

But huawei doesn't provide bootloader unlock codes anymore
Is it possible to root Matepad T8 ?
I think you no longer need Custom ROM to use GApps into this device. I have bought this device few days ago and found a way to run GApps. Just open Huawei AppGallery and look for "GSpace", it will solve GApps issue.

MediaPad T10 AGS3-L09 Rom update

Hi everyone,
I bought this table last year Huawei MediaPad T10 AGS3-l09, already in the beginner, i note that it was not possible to install all Google components but i use different tools and it was ok.
Now, i no receive any updates so i decided to change rom if possible, at the moment it is installed on Android 10, i would like tu upgrade the rom with a new android version and include all google components.
i searched on the site, but unlike i didn't find anything.
Can someone help me to find, if it is possible, a rom to install for that device?
Thanks a lot
