Mine arrived from Best Buy today. Does anyone know if there's a way to keep the proximity functionality without having the notification always show in the notification bar? I went to app settings, and it's not allowing me to disable it.

in the stock config, the icon is there when activated, just like the nfc icon.

marctronixx, I think I recognize you from a few previous phone forums. :good:
This device sounds like it wold be an ideal 'Trusted Device' along the lines of the Moto-X implementation where the phone lowers its security barriers when paired with a specific Bluetooth device. I've even suggested as much to HTC.
I'm wondering... Have you tried it with any of the myriad of tasker-like apps out there to try to replicate the feature?

Big apologies for long delay.
Here is a scenario... There is an app called Pebble Locker that although designed for a Pebble watch, allows any BT device to act as a trusted connection and automatically disables PIN lock. If no Pebble or other trusted device is conected, PIN lock returns. (Unfortunately it doesn't work with pattern lock or fingerprint scan). The idea is that if you have a separate device near the phone, it lowers the barrier. If you leave the device, the barrier rises again. I'm hoping the Fetch would work for that as it would almost always be in my pocket or nearby.
Of course, it would be better if it was something built in to HTC devices. Some time ago I stumbled across their SDK and it seems to be pretty powerful but I'm not a programmer so...
-Separate note: I've seen some discussions that the KitKat update on the HTC One's breaks Fetch. Not too many confirmations, but no denials either.

Looks like Best Buy US is starting to sell the Fetch for $29. Looks like I'll be owning one soon.

I got my Fetch from BestBuy (see above) and it works as advertised. Only 75% battery charge out of the box.
It indeed showed up as a Bluetooth device in Pebble Locker (see farther above) so I am able to set the phone to remain unlocked while in range of the Fetch and PIN lock if not.
Now, for all you actual developers out there, here's a link to the SDK for the Fetch. Let the fun begin.

I installed the Sprint OTA KitKat update yesterday and the fetch continues to work... sort of. I've found that if I turn the fetch off I have to go in and find it again and pair again.
I also noticed and downloaded the HTC Fetch app in the app store.
It has a nicer interface and apparently a couple of additional features (including the ability to connect to other BT 4 devices)
It apparently connects differently as you can run it without it being paired in regular BT settings and it doesn't retain the annoying Fetch icon in the notification area. BUT, since it no longer shows as a BT device, the Pebble Unlocker app that I use to simulate 'trusted device' doesn't see it and doesn't keep the phone unlocked.
I'm hoping there will be some interest in the developer community because I think there are some enhancements that can and should be made to either or both of the apps.
For one, I'd like to be able to disable change the tone or somehow further delay the alarms that go off when out of range. I do that far too often. However, when that feature is disabled, it also disconnects the BT connection and as above defeats the trusted device functionality mentioned above.
I mostly want to use it so my phone is secure if I'm not nearby and occasionally use the separation alarm feature if I am in a situation where one or the other might be left behind.

i have not noticed any issues with fetch after the sprint 4.x update. im stock non rooted.

New to NFC

Like a lot of people here I'm new to NFC. Other than Google Wallet (which I am not overly interested in at this point) I'd like to know what the capabilities of NFC are. I've seen a few android beam demonstrations and it seems like more of a novelty than of practical use.
I'd like to be able to use NFC to switch on bluetooth when in my car and to set my alarm when going to bed. Automation of simple tasks that I do every single day would be greatly beneficial.
Would I need a special app to do this? What kind of tags do I have to buy? Can I buy any tag and tell my phone what to do when I scan it? Do I have to program tags myself?
Thanks in advance to everyone who helps and I hope I'm not the only one who benefits from answers to these questions.

Here's the app I use, it's fantastic. You can make simple tags, complicated ones, or even switches(a tag that does 2 different things).
For example, I have a switch configured for when i get to/leave work. It toggles wifi, Bluetooth, ring volume, ring tone, media volume, and notification tone, all in one tag, all in one touch. Watch the video in the link, it's pretty helpful too!
There is a mod in the EVO 4g LTE and HTC one x forums that let's you choose when NFC can be read.

Screed off (obviously locked)
I modded the phone to read tags when the screen is on and even if the phone is still locked. Allowing it to read while the screen is off may be a security risk for some.
Anyway,
On my keychain:
Switcher:
WiFi off, Bluetooth on, volume up, brightness up, latitude check in, plays media player.
This is great because it automatically connects to my car Bluetooth headset and the HTC aux stereoclip so music starts playing through my car speakers wirelessly via swipe of the keychain.
Tap again to disable all these and check in again w latitude.
I also have a separate tag in my car low on the dash to enable GPS and open maps so I don't have to fiddle w my phone througg the settings and open the app drawer to open maps. Makes driving that much safer. Also, I don't always use GPS, so having a separate tag for it from my keychain saves battery by using it only when needed.
Trying to set up a tag to enable WiFi tether for root users and stick it to my laptop/pc for quick swiping and enabling. But that has been tricky as you either have to use tasker or a custom activity in NFC task launcher.
Can't think of any others relevant to my interests. I don't see the need in making 38583983 tags. I definitely use the ones in the car tho.
I may order a wristband and think up something creative for it. Assigning a "sync all" activity would rock for it as I keep auto-syncing on my phone off and only sync email and such when I see fit.

1 - In Car to turn on GPS, Bluetooth, Disable Wifi, Open Music App.

This is exactly the type of experience that I was looking for, something that allows AA but also maintains AM/FM radio so this can be used as a replacement to the current stereo.
I've been trying to get this installed, but running into some issues in the instructions.

After you’ve installed Qt add the lib folder its installed in to the library load path, the bin folder to your PATH and the lib/pkgconfig folder to the pkg-config path.

So i got this up and running, this has a lot of potential.

I have a few questions I'm hoping someone can answer.
Questions on current build
1. How is the progress for the FM radio going? Do you know what hardware requirements will be to use AM/FM?
This was the biggest draw to me, to allow me to use this as a replacement to a standard head unit.
2. With Android Audio, when I push the button to go into AA mode. When I plug my phone in, nothing happens? I have AA installed on my phone and it works on other devices.
3. I have a red box at the bottom of the screen that says 'no valid device found use Null device instead.'
What is this trying to tell me? Message is there regardless if phone is plugged in or not.
4. How do you enable the bluetooth so it can connect to the phone contacts etc?
Features I would like to see:
1. Customization navigation bar.
This will be going in an older car, with old fashion lever type heater controls, so I really don't need the climate control button on the screen. Be nice to be able to swap that out for something else.
Also I don't think DAB radio is available in the US, so that would be another one that I would like to remove. Any plans on HD radio for those in the US?
2. Will this support wireless AA at some point?
3. Suppress the Pi Login/Password screen on boot. It seems if you wait about 20 seconds it skips over it automatically. Would be nice in the settings if there was a way to turn that on/off.
So I think this is almost exactly what I have been looking for as a carpc setup, but I had a couple of questions/suggestions. It would be great if you could customize the "action menu" on the right to open other apps that are installed on the system. Like chrisfromwa said above, I have an older car and have no need for the A/C controls, but would I do have an aftermarket fuel injection system and have tuning software currently running on my Raspberry Pi that I would like to be able to open from the "desktop" environment. Also, while I realize that you can do mapping through Android Auto, it would be great if you could launch a navigation system that is installed on the Pi itself like Navit. That way I could have fully offline maps and navigation via a USB GPS dongle and not have to worry about my phone having a signal to have mapping info.
Ultimately I'm really just looking for a "launcher" of sorts that can do FM radio, navigation, and open my tuning app, but that has a nice interface that is easy to use in a car with the 7" touchscreen I have. This is one of the most promising I have seen and would love it if it could launch other apps from the main screen.

I ask because there are many head units that are double din, touchscreen, can play darn near every file known to man, have android auto, can interface easily with your car itself, much less the steering wheel controls (cheap interface built with the molex plugs needed for plug-n-play use. Again, i mean no disrespect as i tried doing this a few years back. I gave up because to do it properly, i found that i would have to pretty much rewrite the kernel so that it could idle when necessary and go into full-on ready in seconds vs a full boot every time. Creating an output section thats worth a damn would also prove to be expensive, which is what inexorably led me back to the pioneers, kenwoods etc etc etc of the world. I guess if youre wanting full, unrestricted access to what android has to offer while driving, that would explain it then. But you can also achieve this with some automated processes in your phone to lie to the deck and tell it that youre not moving etc etc. Anyways, just curious of your reasoning for doing this

I've built my own and after you see so many people having issues with their official head units, it is nice to know that you have the control and aren't at the mercy of a car manufacturer or company. Also, I can use it to play retro games and more. Plus I have a unique dashboard that I have helped design in some ways. Honestly I've tried this project and while it was heading in a good direction there wasn't enough for me to use it as it is currently. I have something else and don't have to pay for like Openauto pro. It's called OpenDash and while it functions as is, it is continuously adding functionality and customizations that you can't find in anything commercial.

Turning HP Touchpad into an sort-of Amazon Echo Show

Hello all,
I love my Touchpad. It got me through College, especially with its completely underrated out-of-the-box office suite. However now it just functions as my Alarm Clock on my bedside table on a Touchstone dock.
When the Amazon Echo Show came out, I think I can saw we all laughed a little. After all, who would would want a tablet with at-a-glance information that they can't carry around with them. Then I realized, that's *exactly* how I use my Touchpad in Exhibition mode. So that got me thinking: how could I transform the hardware I already have and love into a device similar to the Echo Show.
Now, in my mind, there are three ways to do this:
a) Keep webOS and install the somewhat buggy ACL made by Phoenix Communications then install the Alexa handsfree app from the new Fire10 tablet (if I can find the APK). Basing myself on this article: https://techcrunch.com/2017/09/19/a...s-as-a-cheap-echo-show-with-hands-free-alexa/
b) Install Android 6.0+, and make the Google Assistant my Alexa stand-in. I would therefore need to find a way to port-over webOS's Exhibition Mode. Also perhaps the Prelude fonts, as I find Roboto completely unappealing.
c) Install ANY version of Android, and use the same Alexa handsfree app from a), setting it to be constantly on (no screen lock).
Given the Touchpad's aging hardware, any Android ROM would need to be fast, minimal and barebones as I don't intend to use this for much else. It does, however, need to be stable enough to not crash every time I say "Ok Google" or "Alexa".
Any tips on how I should proceed?

Good idea! I don't use my TouchPad very much anymore away from it being my alarm clock on the Touchstone dock.
I'd definitely try to upgrade it to an Alexa enable tablet if possible.

Option a) does not work. As I suspected, the ACL simply doesn't work well enough to run the Google Assistant and listen for the Ok, Google hotword. I didn't run the Alexa app, but I suspect I'll run into similar issues with it.
This leaves me with options b) and c). I've been installing all sorts of different ROMs for the past day and I keep running into a recurring issue: the WiFi on my tablet doesn't seem to be working. It works fine in webOS, but in every single Android version I've run it gets stuck on "turning WiFi on".
I suspect I have an issue with the ath6kl driver, but I can't find a replacement driver updated for anything past CM9. Can anyone help me? I seem to be having the exact same issue OP is having in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hp-touchpad/help/wifi-wont-clean-flash-t3612062

That's what I'm currently running. I also changed the Kernel to see if that's what was causing the issue but it isn't.
I know for a fact it's not the hardware, because webOS's wifi works perfectly.

All I can tell you is that wifi works perfectly for me (and most others based on the devs-base forum). I have no problem with Google Assistant and "OK, Google" voice recognition.

Thanks to kernel and settings found here, my TouchPad is now usable.
I plan to use it as a control screen for my home automation system, and a echo show / google home like.
You told that the Google Assistant was active, and usable on your TouchPad. Could you please explain me how did you activate it ?
I tried some tricks found on xda dev, but i'm stuck with google now...

Get Assistant - Root works
I still haven't been able to fix the WiFi on my Touchpad. It works perfectly in webOS, but it just remains stuck on "Turning WiFi On" on every single Android ROM iIve tried. I'm not quite sure what to do at this point

Anyone helping building a new companion app to send data to the Stratos/Pace Watch?

i'm trying to build a companion app similar to watchdroid with wich i can send data to the watch and display them on a widget/springboard.
In my case i wan't to have my blood glucose level on my watch as i was used to with my android wear watch.
I have a simply app made with taske wich can read out a json from my nightscout site. This sadly work only via wifi.
Main problem is the bluetooth comunication. i've tried so many simply bluetooth apps and librarys via sideload. I can't even tell how many. Non of them worked out. Only some worked in watch to phone direction but not the other - desired - way. In almost every case, my phone could'nt even find the watch.
But since watch droid got it working, i know there is a way.
There is another way to get data to the watch: the notification system. Since i also could'nt get the notification listener to work on the watch, it is also not a starting point for me.
Last chance i see is automizing watchdroid and sending a file at a regulary scedule and reading this from the widget.
For the moment i just use Notify and fitness cause the Phone notification with my glucose level is persistent and the huami app ignores persistent notifications.
But get a new notification with my glucose level every 5 Minutes. On the phone the notification gets just updated, on the watch i get a new one. Over the day the notification stack gets fuller and fuller...
I'm not talking about geting this into a watchface, thats the next step after the next hundreds of steps.
Any help and tipps are welcome.
When a notification is dismissed on the phone, it should dismiss on the watch.
If you have the source to this app, you could make it dismiss it's notification and send a new one.

Yes, it's freestyle libre with ambrosia blucon nightrider for nfc readout and transmission every 5 min. The app i use is xdrip+.
The notification is persistent to keep the data collector service running, to show the value on the notificatiin icon even on the aod of samsungs.

ah yes anyway, the price of "ambrosia blucon nightrider" as we say at home "it stings the eyes". before you give me the answer I was wondering how you did to get back the FreeStyle scan, so I understand. on the other hand to use the nightscout, it is a little the course of the fighter ... a lot of account to create. damage that the app glimp or other does not regroup suddenly!
It's currently my intention to build a framework for both phone and watch to allow apps to get data from the internet at some point in the next few months. I'm stuck with work to do at the moment so don't have any time to put towards projects (especially not big ones like that) but in the future - probably
I'd ideally also like to get Android Wear (not Wear OS, it's an old version) working too, to allow at least some companion apps to function (Sleep as Android, Keep etc.). I've got the framework working fine (which does improve app compatibility, but no communication still severely limits what they can do), but the two way Bluetooth connection throws an error that I cannot find any documentation about, so it's on hold for now until I have sufficient time to investigate properly
This would be awesome to have a framework like this. In my case i would'nt even need real internet access, due to the web service is localy provided by the xdrip app. But this would open so many things and possible options to code. Let me know if i could help. I'm also short in time but willing to help.
Getting Android wear working on the pace/stratos would also be great. I tried out sideloading the micro apk for wear of xdrip+ and it worked out better than expected. No crashes from the app and even the integrated watchfaces were selectable. Of course there were no data shown and no low power watchface.

It might actually be possible to build a newer version of Android, source code exists for the CPU and MIPS sources exist all the way up to Oreo, but again that would take time I don't have (and space for that matter)

Hi, great news. Will this work on Amazfit BIP ?
Since the Bip does not rely on the AmazFit Watch app, i'd say no.

Hi, i'm now trying to integrate quinnys library into xDrip, to make thinks easy and to allow 2 way communication.
Since xDrip is a really big and complex project + i'm a noop i'm having trouble with providing a switch in the menus and finding the right place to start the service from. Maybe someone can help me out again.
I am also really interest of amazfit bit. I saw now, xdrip have one section called "amazfit synk service" look like can connect with this kind of phones. Are there news to see the value on the display?

None of this will work with the Bip, it's too limited
Is there any way to implement the clockscreen or widget from Glimp instead of XDrip on the Stratosphere. I'm getting better use from Glimp and MiaoMiao.

[APP] Standalone navigation app for Wear OS!

Here's the full description on the app so you can get a glance at the features:
Users can type in a location, or long press on the map to input a destination. They can choose to travel via walking, cycling or car.
The app will navigate the user from their current location to the destination using turn-by-turn navigation. Each step is highlighted on the path, with text to show you what action to take, and how long until you reach that step. The map rotates along with the device, so will follow the forward-facing direction of the watch.
The app only needs an internet connection for the initial retrieval of the directions. After that, it solely relies on GPS until the user arrives at the destination.
This (obviously) only works on watches that have GPS.
If you have any suggestions at all, I'd love to know them.
The next feature I plan to implement is importing a GPX file in from Google Drive, so you can navigate a more unorthodox/scenic route, which would suits cyclists. I initially developed this for when I go cycling, as we don't usually want to take the fastest route somewhere.
Let me know if there any burning features that are needed in this, and I'll do my best to deliver. This is a small side-project, so I don't have too much time to work on it, but I find it quite useful personally, and I hope others will, too.
Someone suggested I release a demo version so people can try it and see if they wish to buy it. I have released one here
It only has the dropped pin functionality, and only allows walking as a navigation mode. The zoom is also locked.

This is looking really good. I want true standalone navigation on my Huawei Watch 2 4G. It has a sim so loads the route standalone and seems to be able to do everything expected...i'm trying the demo version now.
One question though...unless i'm missing something..how do you exit the app? I'm currently having to force close it.
(And as a side note have you checked out the Wear OS app Ghostracer? You can import a gpx file and follow your progress on a map on the watch. Maps are downloadable to the watch, although ive never tried that. My watch has a sim so updates the map as im riding using the watches data. Heavy on the battery though.)

I had not realised that the app does not cease to use GPS whilst it is in sleep mode, so I have added a button to exit the app properly when you drag down. I've just released it now.
I have had a look at it, but it doesn't seem to work unless you have an android phone. I am currently looking into offline maps and importing GPX files. Do you know if it does that via the android app, and how it imports it? I was looking to use Google drive, as that seems to be the only viable storage solution supported on Wear atm.

Thankyou for the exit button, works great. Having tested the demo app i'm happy, and I will purchase. One further comment, the battery drain is heavy, as expected. Any chance of an ambient mode while the map is running to save battery? I may be pushing my luck, but I can only ask!
Ghostracer does indeed need a companion Android app on the phone. The gpx file is loaded into the app on the phone (using a file manager) then passed to the Ghostracer app on the watch. Maps are treated the same, but I just use the data from my sim in the watch to load maps as I ride when needed. You can follow a gpx route standalone on the watch in a similar way to following the route on your app. I am not connected to Ghostracer in any way, I just think its a wonderful app for cyclists and runners (within the watches battery limitations). And the free version allows you to test all its features. It might not be right for you, but it was worth a mention based on what you said earlier. (And the map screen has an ambient mode.... )

Great . I did play around with the ambient mode, but it was just the same as the standard google maps ambient mode. It takes away the turn-by-turn, location, and path. If I could persist these, and set the GPS to update every 30 secs - 1 minute, I'd probably keep it, but I'm not sure how. I'd like to stick in options to set the GPS update frequency, or have the screen turn back on only for upcoming turns.
That's really cool! That's essentially what I would have liked on my watch but standalone. I really don't like the idea that you HAVE to use a companion app, especially when it's not available for iOS. I know they're competing watches, but I love the price point of android watches compared to Apple's, and their features shouldn't pale in comparison by way of hardware.
How does their ambient map work, if you don't mind me asking? I'd like to look into it. What does their paid version allow you to do? I only had a paid version before someone mentioned to put the free one on, just to give people a flavour of it. I tried to emphasise the main bit, which was the turn-by-turn navigation. The search and other transportation modes were secondary.

Ghostracers ambient map is black background with white markings until you lift your wrist...but that might not work when using your app while driving (watch off the wrist?).
I've now purchased your app (Google made that hard work!)...all still good. One question...when I zoom the map in the map un-zooms straight back. Any way to make the zoom stick?

Do the markings include the path/trail? I've used the black background one before, and the building outlines are (kinda) white. Yeah, I do have my watch affixed to my handlebars on my bicycle.
Great - Thanks! It's much appreciated! How come it was hard work, if you don't mind me asking? Ah, yep. That was one of the first things I forgot to change! I completely forgot about it! I've made it so that if you zoom/pan, it'll stick unless you press the "my location" button again.

Hi ruggs1234, it was a long time since you wrote your experience with this app. I downloaded the demo today and I tested it. Looks like since last Google's update, the huawei watch 2 doesn't use its built-in standalone GPS. Please, would you mind to check whether you are having this problem now? The only way I got it work was by connecting the watch to a phone through Bluetooth.

The app still works ok on my watch, I tested it yesterday.
With my phone switched OFF I use my watches inbuilt sim to start the route (the app needs data to download the initial route, it can use the connected mobile but mine was switched off). I then switch off the sim in my watch and follow the route using only the gps in the watch. The app worked as it always has.
HOWEVER, my watch isn't running the latest version of Wear OS (it's running Wear OS 2.0, Home app 2.16). I never update anything Google if i'm not forced too, their updates often break more things than they fix. Everything I use on the watch works great and i'd like it to stay that way....

well, I gave it a test (full paid version) - TicWatch 3 Pro 4g/LTE (all up to date). It doesn't work. All tested in standalone mode (no phone involved).
- app crashes when there is no GPS fix (GPS is on, but no fix yet)
- when I set an route to navigate (pin or search) it just endlessly shows progress circle and nothing else happens (GPS on with fix, LTE on and working)

I installed the Demo version on my ticwatch 3 pro gps (updated everything to current versions and no modifications (yet))
App is starting, map is not showing, just the gps location button on the left and a white/grey screen. I can pin a location on the white screen and its actually getting a location next to me and tries to route there - but without any map showing.
Any app for Gear S3 ?
