Transformer Prime AC charger safe? My stock one is not good... - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hi!
I noticed my phone takes a long time to charge and some times when using it while charging I will get a message about the phone being discharging as the power supplied was not enough or something along those lines.
I downloaded the battery status widget and noticed that at best, the charger goes to about 850 but for that I have to keep moving it as it seems some where inside the ac adapter and the USA adapter plug connected to it, something is going wrong.
I tried the original Sony usb cable and a different one as well.
Either way, when I move the AC Adapter parts connected to the wall, the charge changes and go crazy on the Batter Status widget , sometimes even shows like not even plugged any more :/
So I thought about trying my Transformer prime charger or I can try ordering another one that you guys may recommend.
Thanks!
Here is a pic of the specs on that adapter.
Or maybe I can use a Samsung one like this?
Samsung Charger 2A
Although the above seems to be a fake...so maybe just go with a sony one?

Looks like your Asus charger is 1.2A (1200mAh), so it's not the beefiest one out there. I'm not sure what the Sony one is, but i think it's 1.5A. Mine outputs around 800 - 1300mAh on the magnetic charger, and it uses around 2 hours to charge it from 0-100%. I usually charge it when i go to bed, but i'm always using it when it's charging in the dock, like wathcing YouTube videos and TV shows. I have never gotten a notification that says it's being discharged while i charge.
Does it get hot when it charges? (spoiler: it shouldn't do that)
I would buy a new - genuine, Sony charger. The thing is, if you buy or use a different charger and your battery goes to ****s, you can wave goodbye to your warranty. Also, since the battery isn't replacable you should treat it like your own son.
But let me summon @hamdogg for you. He knows a lot more about batteries than i do. I guess he'll show up in a minute or 12 hours. Hard to tell But he's on his way.

hahahahah, you see that Asus charger confuses me because it says but then below it also says Output 5V=2A or 15V=1.2 I dont want to fry my phone!
So you get from 800 to 1300 using the Dk30?
Also, what is the model of your Sony charger. I want to try finding one with USA plug already so maybe that Sony one is the best option for me even though I would like to start going with Magnetic charger myself OR charging an external battery (if I get one) to avoid using the USB port too much.

I got the DK30 bundled with the phone. The charger model is EP880 and it outputs 1500mAh. It only says Sony on the dock itself.

Got ya. Well I decided to get the DK30 even though now I am having second thoughts since some user seems to be having luck just using the magnetic adapters and connecting any usb cable to that adapter instead..but oh well, I guess I will get the DK30 and see how it works out for me.
Still trying to decide on that 4500mAh case/battery too!

Sorry have been away for a few days...
amps are fine no matter what the range. So 1.5 right up to 4.0 amps will not damage your device.
Volts on the other hand can damage your device. Don't go above 6v.
You should be able to get 5.v and 2.0 amps out of a wall charger, if not then its not been made properly, or not efficiently
[I have a 2.1amp unit and it suits me fine]
The difference is that your device will pull what ever I can up to a maximum, It look like the ultra can only pull 2200 (give or take) out of a charging unit, so any wall charger that states its over 2.5 amps will be a waste.
-So don't pay extra for anything above 2.2amps thinking you'll get faster charging. You wont.

I got a free 5000mhz solar charger unit sent to me to review. I'll make a video for my channel shortly about this unit. Think it retails for $15 USD. Look pretty good, just need to test it on my ultra in a few days.
The thing with battery packs, is that it needs to be 200% larger than the internal battery. So if your Ultra battery is flat, then it charges off the 5000mhz battery pack, that would mean to it wont fully charge the ultra. It will get to 2500mha, and the battery pack will get down to 2500mhz, and then it wont be able to transfer charge. (Unless you can give charge to pack)
So my solar pack can charge my device to 75%, and then continue to charge it while the solar panel charges the pack..
Does that make sense??

There we go

Ill upload pics of the device attached to my g1 shortly, but on to the review.
First off
Its on sale at amazon right now, and its worth every penny.
Price: $12.99
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JLL14E/ref=cm_cr_thx_view
Here is a youtube review by someone else:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WBAFsfy_HU
If i remember correctly, its 1700mah, larger than the stock g1 battery so its plenty juice to fully charge your g1 atleast once. As you can see in the video, its not very big, and its suprisingly lightweight, the g1 weighs significantly more than the charger. Hell, the box it came in weighed as much as the charger.
It takes longer to charge the charger than it does my g1, for obvious reasons, but it charges my g1 as fast as when my g1 is plugged into a wall.
Im definately picking up a 2nd one of these, for the price you just cant go wrong.
Does it really hold a full charge for the G1?
I've seen a bunch of these (I think this is the only portable charger Motorola has) here in Spain for 8$ on sale in a bargains bin at the local market, but I always thought it was intended for a much smaller battery, something like 850mah or 900...

i havnt gone a complete charge on it, but earlier today i went from 17% to 85% and it was still blinking green (the charger) showing that it had above 20% battery life left, so i think it might, ill fully drain my g1 saturday morning and see if it really does give it a "full" charge and let you know.
on a side note, the charger, while being cheap in price, does NOT feel cheap in quality
if you look at the picture, the slide in the center has a bar in the center of it going left to right, its a button, you must be slightly pressing on it in order to slide the slider up, and same to retract it, so it wont accidently slide out and damage the usb tip, it actually locks into place forward and back, and the greatest thing, if you watch the video youll see, the g1 seems to have its mini usb port flipped upside down IMO, so does this charger, so it charges facing the front, the odd thing is the bottom of the charger where you plug in a mini usb to charge the charger, is right side up (opposite of top) lol
the texture of the charger feels like a OEM battery cover for a g1, smooth but without the gloss like the front of a g1

no my mustang broke down and i ended up relying on my g1 for most of the day, but i have to say, it was a life savor having it around, ill attempt to do it tonight, i have to go pretty far so ill use the gps and play music to kill the battery and when i get there ill attempt to charge it via the external charger
on stock battery got a full charge with power to spare, im not rocking a 2200mah, its not fully charging it, but its getting about 60% of the way there

1700mah is the one i got for 13 bucks on amazon, i believe its the only one motorola makes, but it defiantely gave me a full charge in about a hour or so (lost track of time)
definately worth the buy, even more worth it for $8 usd
Ok,
I've looked on the net for reviews and photos and nobody seems to answer my question. Is there two ports one for charging the device and one for charging say your G1?
I'm guessing it uses a special AC adapter and does it use the flip out port or is there another?

as seen in the picture, when you slide the center up, the mini usb comes out of the top, its viewable from the top if you look straight down at it, so it just simply slides out to be able to plug into the phone
on the bottom of the charger, is a mini usb port, just like on the g1, it doesnt have a cover, nor does it flip out, its simply there
basically:
use your g1's charger and plug it into bottom of motorola charger, and plug motorola charger into g1 and youll have both charging at the same time in a straight line, watch the video posted in my first post after reading this and it should all make sence
and no, there is no special adapter, nor a special charger, it comes with a charger, but its no different than the charger that came with your g1, and it works when being charged off of a usb 2.0 port on your computer/laptop
@wootroot
Thanks for the clarification. I wanted to watch the YouTube video, but the tech guys at my work do not allow us to view YouTube videos. I planned on watching it when I got home, but figured after a bit of looking around on the net asking a question couldn't hurt and it worked great.
Thanks
yeah no problem, the only reason i suggested to watch the video is incase my description was unclear, i couldnt think of any other way to describe the charger
I did figure out way around the YouTube block. Put
PWN in front of the YouTube domain in the address and you can download the video opposed to stream.
My reasoning for purchasing this is simple. I 4wheel a lot and I no longer have a cigerette lighter in my Jeep because I turned my Cigerette lighter power lead into a feed to power my in cab winch controller.
Now with this I have a power source for my phone beyond the normal battery when I use the GPS.
However I did some looking around beause I'd personally need a longer cord because I couldn't do the device to device thing because I know it would get broke. Found some mini usb to mini usb extensions on the net. Ebay wanted $25 a cable, but you can find them cheaper. I'm guessing shorter the wire less line loss, but we are not talking 10+ feet here. Just 1 to 3 feet.

Anyways I just wanted to share.
yeah and you can get a splitter cable to charge more than one device, ie bluetooth
I bought one of these the day I bought my G1 at a T-Mobile store no less. They were getting rid of them and had them on sale for 15 dollars each. Sadly after 9 months I broke it. I had it plugged in and oops I knocked it off the G1 and the adapter piece bent. It still holds a charge and charges my phone but I want one with a cord so it doesn't happen again. Anyone seen the HTC portable batteries?

I have used this for about 1 1/2 years now. FANTASTIC.
Staples seem to have them on clearance for as low as $6. I have a friend of mine in NY buying 4 of them for me. Since I commute by train, it is so nice to have a way to charge or top-off my G1.
I plug two of them together when charging.
No Cables..thats what I love.

Portable charger with charging from USB

Is there any kind of portable charger for HTC touch pro 2 battery which can charge battery via USB?
For example to charge battery from computer (like phone charges the battery).

But I am not talking about cradle chargers which can accommodate battery and phone at the same time.
and also not these chargers, they just support the USB as an output not as input!
So with this charger you can charge battery and phone only with AC power.
OK, gotta ask
Why you want this? You can charge the phone directly with a USB to USB-mini cable, and if you have a laptop and use it for any length of time you will plug it in (so one of the cheap plug in chargers would work for this purpose).
For the above reasons I don't think anyone has made a device such as you describe.

I want this kind of charger to charge batteries with some cheap and non-reliable sources during traveling.
Like:
If I charge mobile pone directly I am afraid that the phone will be danaged.

OK, you must be going to some rough country where there may not be power, correct? I think you may be stuck with simply powering the phone via the USB cable. So long as your manual hand crank only puts out the standard USB voltage, you should be fine.
He didn't want the charger...he's using the hard crank
if you have a multimeter you can check the voltage of the hand crank to determine if its safe to charge the phone directly

Nice diagram you drew out that CLEARLY spells out what you are looking for. Not sure how other people could not understand what you are looking for, as that's something I require for any new phone platform I use. The ability to charge a spare battery from USB power (5v, 500ma+) for when you are somewhere you need to swap batteries and keep the spare charged at all times, etc.
So to answer the OPs original inquiry:
1. HTC OEM spare battery charger, model "HTC BC S300". Uses USB power to charge the spare battery as it has no direct AC input.
2. Seidio's charger that allows for AC or USB powered charging of a spare battery, model "BD3-BCSI3HTP2-BK"
This one is pretty decent as you have two options to power the charger. I can confirm it works either way. The other benefit is you can just replace the charging plate to support other battery types. I bring this charger on any extended trip I go on and keep one in my luggage at all times.
You'll have to google for the model numbers I put in quotes as I do not have enough posts to include URLs in my replies yet. The first hit you get on google should show the relevant info.
As for how you obtain your USB power safely, that's a separate issue that you are on your own.

From the website it appears the HTC BC S300 is for the Touch Diamond or Touch Pro.
http://www.mobihand.com/productaccessories.asp?id=29936&n=HTC-External-Battery-Charger-(BC-S300)
However, the other model should work, but the picture indicates that one would have to buy a male-to-male USB cable rather than the normal A to B cable for it to charge. I think this model would be the one to use.

35 dollars is pretty steep for that IMO
and for the record, i understood what he wants, i was just curios why the combo dock+battery charger was unacceptable, since it has a USB powered battery charger (at least the one i got did, 25 dollars shipped on ebay, even came with a second battery, much better than the 35 for the OEM battery charger)

Oops, I just edited the post you quote. That one was for the original Touch Pro, NOT the TP2.
He wants one that will charge FROM the USB port, evidently so that he can use a portable USB hand-powered generator to charge the batteries. The ones on E-bay will output USB power, but not charge a battery FROM the USB power.
Are you saying you found an e-bay model that charges from the USB? Can you post a link?

No worries.
The Touch Diamond and Pro use the same default 1500mah battery the TP2's do. So the HTC OEM spare battery charger would work fine. That's one thing I love about HTC is they try to maintain the same type of batteries in most of their model line ups. Even their new Sprint EVO phone uses the same battery, nice!
That Seidio product link you listed is the same as the model number I posted. Good point on the cable. You would need a male to male type A USB cable to run from USB power. I carry various USB adapter plugs when I use it.
As for defaultdotxbe's post, seems you have the same concerns... he/she may have overlooked that the OP wanted a charger that runs off USB power. I have yet to see any of the combo docks on fleabay run strictly off USB vs providing USB power.

its actually a 10 cent capacitor (or battery) that makes any charger reliable, like my 2 dollar car charger
like this one for example: http://inspectusa.com/emergency-han...r-vzl3883-with-flashlight-compass-p-1109.html
the cranking isnt putting voltage over the USB directly, it charges a button cell battery which in turn charges the phone, so it works like a UPS for a computer system and regulates the voltage going to the phone, so its safe to charge directly (im actually thinking of buying that one myself, lol)
@stevedebi
the only cradle ive ever used was for my old sprint mogul and it charged the battery through USB so i assumed all cradles worked this way
defaultdotxbe
I found cheaper solution:
it applies USB power directly on moving pins to charge battery.
As usb voltage is compatible for HTC TP2 battery charging it will work as portable usb charger.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Universal-Mini-...ultDomain_0&hash=item19bdeabe0e#ht_3931wt_911

Looking for a powerful car charger!

Hey guys I'm looking for a car charger that will charge the phone while running google navigation. The current one I have cannot keep up. Basically the phone is using more battery than the charger is supplying so eventually even though it's charging it will die. Please help with some suggestions.
The higher the output amps the better, most online don't say.
This one has a 1A (1000 mA) which is the highest I've seen until now.
http://www.cellphoneshop.net/2usbcar.html
This says 2.1A.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004U4RF7I...e=asn&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B004U4RF7I
Here's one that has 1 of each (1A & 2.1A):
http://www.scosche.com/consumer-tech/product/1921
You need to be careful about using one too high for the phone as well.
The output of the wall charger that comes with the phone is 1A. Find an USB car charger that outputs 1A and you should be fine.
This will run Pandora&Navigation at the same time and still charge, but not by much. But a least it doesn't discharge.
*LINK*
The phones are only meant to charge up so fast. once you attempt to go over that limit, you risk causing damage to your phone. don't look for something with so much power it charges it in 20 minutes. it will kill the phone and battery.
Is 2.1A safe from charging phones?
Sent from my EVO 3D
I doubt the phone will charge any faster even if you get a 2A charger, but there are many chargers that only charge the phone half as fast as you possibly could. Some chargers only provide 0.5A (500mA, conforming to the PC USB spec) and some 1A chargers will only provide 0.5A because of the pin out on the connector plug... You can tell this is happening if under battery stats in settings it says it's charging from USB instead of AC. You could short some pins on said chargers to fix that but it's usually easier to find a proper one for $3 or whatever.
Even if you have a 1A charger you could manage to discharge faster than it charges if you're streaming music while using navigation for a while and/or you happen to be in a low signal area (which eats battery like crazy since the radio goes wild trying to find a better signal/tower).
I have the one in the link below. It is OEM HTC for the Thunderbolt, and has
2x 1A Ports. It keeps up with
Pandora and GMaps. My old charger would not (it was 500mA.) The cool thing is that both ports are 1A in a small form factor, and it has a white LED that illuminates them. It comes with a coiled cord which is well built.

I have the Motorola one, and it keeps up, and charges fast.

my tom tom universal one is the only one that ive found to come out at exactly 1A - 1.2A measured via current widget...
All the other brand 1A's sit at 350 - 600ma
I get about 0 - 150ma normal with Google Navigation and Power Amp playing flacs
I get about 500 - 780ma with Tom Tom with Google Navigation and Power Amp playing flacs

Check out this thread from the OG EVO Accessories. Good info on car chargers:

I have this:
Monoprice.com Car Charger (Cigarette Lighter to USB Female Converter) #6766, 1000mA
and a cheap 3 foot USB cable from Monoprice also and it will charge while on 4G, Google Navigation and Pandora playing

You have no idea what you are talking about. The rating indicates the maximum current the charger is capable of. The phone will decide how much to draw.
Actually, the high rating is not enough. The charger should have a certain circuitry ( a resistor between data pins) to "tell" phone that it can supply higher current. 2.1A iPad charger doesn't have it because it was designed to communicate with iGadgets. It will act like a regular 500mA charger when connected to an Android phone.
A lot of the 1amp chargers that you see will still only charge your phone at 500ma. Unless USB pins 2 and 3 are shorted together (or have less then 200 ohms between pins 2 and 3), the phone will think it's connecting to a computer and only draw 500ma. I modified a few 1amp chargers to actually charge at 1amp instead of 500ma. See this thread:

Are you SURE you're getting the right result with the Current Widget? There's been quite a few threads on this topic and it doesn't seem that the Current Widget correctly supports our phone. Per that widget, I'm getting 400ma current draw normally - without running any active apps. When I use various chargers, that number goes up or down seemingly at random, LOL.
My most powerful charger, which provides 2A on one port and 2.1 A on the other - makes the widget report only 35 mA.
In short - I wish there was an app that correctly measures current draw on our phone, but I haven't found one based on multiple threads on the topic.
I use Battery Monitor Widget. I definitely see the difference between 500mA and 1A chargers. Some current form the charger is consumed by the phone itself, so it is not possible measure the actual draw from the power supply without an external meter.

Get the Amazon one. Trust me! I have one and all my buddies have them. It is by far the cheapest and most powerful charger you can find.
My buddy did a review of it on here:

I have the one from Sprint with the AC adapter in it that pops out and it works well. Granted it was a bit pricey, but, it does the job and the battery does in fact charge while using telenav navigation and listening to music through the stereo as well. Slowly, but, at least it doesn't discharge while being charged....LOL...

I've seen/ heard a LOT of people who have that one and love it! Good choice with that one. I have a Motorola that also has a USB port in it and i little slide cover for the usb port when you're not using it, works great! I love it an highly recommend it. I charge my 3D and 4th Gen iPod Touch with it at the same time.

This is one of the few chargers that would power the Palm Touchstone reliably. There was an extensive thread at Pre Central on car chargers. Just make sure it's the SPN5400A like in the link above. Some other Motorola chargers have a lower output.
On the E3D it shows charging on AC.

is it ok to leave the phone plugged in overnight?

not sure if this is good for the battery to leave it plugged into the charger when it's at 100%..
i been told before that these new devices it's ok to leave it plugged in...but i don't have a good feeling about this lol
it'd be great if someone can please chime in on this.
thanks all!
Yes it is OK. The charging circuitry will switch to a trickle charger when battery is almost fully charged.

No because they're lithium iron batteries.

the charging system is getting more and more intelligent...no reason to worry about that anymore
Just keep your batteries with more than 20-30% charge as much as possible.

I leave my phone charged to 100% almost all the time:
- when I am at work I leave it plugged to the USB port
- when I am working at home, the phone is connected to the USB port
- when I am driving the phone is connected to the vehicular charger
- when I go to bed, if the phone is below 70%, I leave it plugged on the wall charger overnight.
Yet, when I am on long bike rides and the 3G+ data + GPS + synch are enabled, I still get excellent battery times.
Over charging any battery isn't very good for it, it's the same with laptops and well pretty much anything, so long as power is coming in the battery will take it, even if it is at a slower rate.
Ideally you would want it to charge to 100% and then a little bit more, maybe 20 mins, to make sure.
However i know we don't live in an ideal world and charging it overnight is the only thing that can be done by most users.
In my work we have a lot of phones plugged in all the time (all brands) and they have some strange effects happening, eg: Unresponsive touchscreen (removing the charger solves this), Poor battery life, glitchy screen etc.
Saying that, all of our phones are plugged in all of the time so it is an extreme situation.
If your worried about it then get a timed plug so it only charges for a few hours and then cuts off.
But you should be fine otherwise.
Just feel the charger when the phone's at 100% and it's giving off a f**k load of heat because the phone isn't actually taking anymore charge and the charger turns the reduced MAH it draws into heat in the charger, so just don't worry about it because the phone does all the work for you and can't go over a full charge.
My phone stops charging at 100%.

Instead of creating a new thread, I'd like to steer the ci bvr station towards what charger is it OK to use.
For the ones who know their stuff, can I use any USB charger or must I use only the Samsung charger that cane with the S3?
I remember reading the circuity that allows a proper charge is specific to Samsung chargers.

Yeah you can use any Micro USB cable or charger as long as it outputs no more than 1000mah.
I thought a higher output was "good" in that it reduces the charging time.
Could you please explain why one must take into account a limit?
Conversely, is a low output harmful: how about charging from a laptop USB port?
Also, I have a HTC One X. Can I use the Samsung charger with it: how do I find out the output limit for the One X?

A higher current can damage the battery and possibly the phone and some people say the phone at any current above 1500mah but still haven't seen any proof yet, and you can probably get away with 1300mah but the more you the the hotter the battery gets then slowly expands and might pop, and yes you can use the HTC charger no problem but check any charger you use for output current wrote on charger, and also yes you can charge from a laptop or any really slow charger you like.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the Samsung phones block excessive current and can accept up to 1amp. Also when using any charger that doesn't have the middle cables short-circuited would produce 500milliamps regardless of charger's output(this can be turned off with custom kernel). That's why there is a list of car chargers on gsII or Note forums that have the pins shorted. That said, people had reported that using HP touchpad cuts down in charging time while increasing heat.
I am looking into this a little more and some useful info I found.
My GT-I9300 charger outputs 1000mA @ 5V. The phone charges up quickly. No problem there.
When using a USB port on my Macbook Air (2012 model), under About This Mac > More Info... > System Report... > Hardware > USB > bottom USB High-Speed Bus Hub listed: I see that 500mA are avail from the USB 2.0 port (conforming with USB 2.0 standard specs), but the GT-I9300 is only requesting/ drawing 96mA, whether I am using the original Samsung USB cable which came with the phone or my favorite short Jawbone ERA USB to microUSB shorter cable.

It just takes much longer to charge.
My One X (S720E) draws the full 500mA avail from the port:
It should be noted that some Apple peripherals/ devices (iPhone, iPad etc.) can request and get an additional 500mA from the port on computers/ monitors that supports this.
Here is the Apple Support Article that covers this.
Pretty much everything uses Lithium-Ion these days, and it's perfectly safe to leave overnight, heck I even upped the AC charge voltage to a straight-up 1200 on AC power.
Charging at lower powers is equally harmless, but if you use the phone you may drain faster than it can charge.
All in all, thse rumors about decreasing battery life are getting sillier and sillier these days. Earlier batteries were a bit finicky, but they have improved A LOT, and honestly, a new samsung battery costs 25 dollars? If I'm still using this device in 3-4 years when the battery finally gives out I'll be very surprised.

Third party magnetic charger MAGNECTOR X202

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Magnector-X...UTF8&qid=1413648702&sr=8-2&keywords=magnector
Below are some low res images of the charger.
Positives:
Speedy delivery here in the UK.
Same charge speed as supplied sony cable (it doesn't come with charging block so I used the Sony block to charge)
Slightly faster charging than the iP6+ using supplied Apple charger
The magnetic 'adhesion' is STRONG. See image below of entire phone hanging by the cable head.
Compatible with my phone cases.
Connector jumps to the contact point due to good magnetic strength, but with 50% accuracy of alignment unless you aim well. LOL.
When connected, it has a very good magnetic flex/elastic give at the point of connection so as to simply bounce back into place without falling out at the first hint of a nudge.
Cable more flexible than sony cable, which is VERY stiff.
Otherwise neat packaging.
Negatives:
No warning that upside down fitment can burn the internals.
Ought to have been longer but it is the same length as the sony cable, so yes i'm nitpicking with that one.

FYI, unless it's engineered incorrectly, it's impossible to seat the magnetic charger backwards. One side will never seat correctly onto the pin.

Uh, the ability to fit the thing upside down would seem to be a rather serious defect, particularly if it can damage the phone when it's done??

Agreed my friend. Thanks for the correction
EDIT: I have tried charging another Z3 using the cable upside down and realised that actually only ONE of the two metal points make ANY contact, the other simply doesn't slot in. I'm guessing that was by design by Sony. So it isn't really a con. I will update the OP.
Very nice review, I have ordered the cable not adapter from Amazon.
I have a question. I am yet to receive my Sony Z3C and I understand I have to give it full charge/discharge cycles for the first 4-5 times so that the battery can hold its charge properly.
Would using the magnetic charger be the same as using the micro USB charger?
As I don't want to mess up my battery, and if the magnetic charger will interfere with the first few charge cycles then I can charge the phone with Micro USB for the first few charges before I start using the magnetic charger.

Even if the phone is in a cup holder or something to hold it stationary?
Hi,
Can someone please tell the size of the cable?
I am wondering wether to buy the cable or an adapter, depending on its length.
Thanks.

This is not true. Lithium-Ion batteries do not require a "break-in" or "formatting", instead you should do at least one full charge, then full discharge and full charge again to calibrate the battery's controller. It will measure the current flow over time and set the levels for full and empty charge, so that your phone shuts off at exactly 0% and displays 100% when the battery is actually full. (There is no risk for overcharging if it's improperly calibrated though, it will just show 99% for a very long time or suddenly jump from a lower value to 100%.)
In essence, don't worry about messing up your battery. Do a 100%-0%-100% cycle at one time where you keep the charger plugged in while it's charging, maybe keep it attached even for another 20 minutes after it reached 100%. Then your battery will be calibrated perfectly and you can use it as normal. And it doesn't matter at all if you use the magnetic or USB charger.

I bought BOTH the adapter and wired versions from Amazon. Will probably update or create my own thread for those interested to see the differences.

Thanks a lot for clearing that up for me. That's easy.
It's so easy to get confused when a lot of people are giving different info.
Now I can put my mind at rest. So it's a full charge, then discharge fully and finally charge it fullt and I'm done.
Thanks again

Anyone notice using the magnector X adapter that when you plug or unplug it from your phone while you have a browser open (chrome in my case) that it refreshes the browser page? Seems really odd. Maybe it's got something to do with the phone going in to dock mode when the magnetic charger is connected. I'm sure someone who knows more will be able to help you.
I believe you are correct. I dont see a way to disable this in settings. Not really an issue for me
Yes it's entering on dock mode when you plug in the magnetic cable. It can disable only with the help of xposed framework (which requires root) and unfortunately not yet available for us. Hope to have root for locked bootloader soon
