[Q] 2 Identical Rezounds- 2 different outcomes in battery life and LTE speeds - HTC Rezound

I have two identical Rezounds, both setup using the great Reventech's Guide to How to Downgrade, Factory Restore and Fully Upgrade the Rezound. So, both are S-OFF and running the Factory ROM now.
However, each phone performs way differently and I can't figure out why. The phones have way different battery life, and way different LTE data performance. I'm using GSAM Battery Monitor to measure battery life, and Speedtest application to monitor throughput.
Phone 1:
This phone has decent battery life (I get about 24 hours of battery life in standby), but it has very low data transfer rates in LTE.
View attachment 2446943
View attachment 2446944
Phone 2:
This phone has terrible battery life (drains battery in standby in about 4 hours) but has decent LTE transfer speeds.
View attachment 2446945
View attachment 2446946
I am sure it's not a battery or antenna problem (I've swapped the batteries around and the back covers). I've tried loading different ROM's (Carbon, Tachyon, LiquidSmooth) and the problems seem to be the same.
Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong???:crying:

its probably the phones motherboard...2 seperate types can have different outcomes....you can check by going to about phone>status>serial number...if it starts with a different letter than the other...its a whole different motherboard....slightly different but are very identical

Thank you Reventech-
One phones serial number is HT19XS22......... the other is HT1AWS2.............
Anyhow, for phone 1 can you suggest what I can do to fix the low data rate? And for phone 2 what I can do to reduce the current draw?
Thanks in advance,
Bob

for overheat go through all stepps on my downgrade upgrade guide as thats what fixed my ht1 serial number rezound overheating as for data i honrstly can only suggest making sure radios are updated with hboot and make sure phone is set to lte/gsm/cdma auto (prl) or lte/cdma auto prl in the hidden menu accessed by going to dialer and typing *#*#4636#*#*

im on latest hboot 2.28 with the 2.23 radios found in my upgrade guide....on my beta kernel build and my beta gsm only 4.4 build....those have nothing to do with overheating...another thing that can cause overheat is using stuff like kernal tuner or overclocing your kernal....from what i hear dsb runs great but sucks alot of power
Edit...what i suggest for anyone is funky kernel and an older 4.3 rom for now...for example i had good luck with pac-man and carbon from late september to early october releases which can still be found....

Well, I did both phones all the way from the downgrade upgrade guide exactly as you documented, so kind of think I've got something else going on.
Thanks for the dialer tip, went through that and did confirm phone 1 is on the lte/gsm/cdam auto (prl). Still have the low data rate so no joy.
When I boot to HBOOT, both phones show the following:
HBOOT 2.28.0000
RADIO 2.23.10.0123r/2.23.10.104r
OpenDSP-V14.6.0.7708.00.0507
I hope that means I've got all the updates, right?
Thanks!

yes it does....on the low data one try switching to a different one...toggle airplane mode afterwards for 10 seconds and turn it back on....you may have better luck...also what conditions are the 2 seperate back covers...a pin may not be touching it properly...
Edit: Also just curious...what rom and kenel do you have em on....some roms do act funky and overheat under certain settings or performance set a certain way or even a setting in developer options

Sorry to be dense, but what should I switch to and how, please. Sorry to be a dummy, but I don't quite understand the difference between the RUU's that I ran, and the PH98IMG's that I flashed as part of your procedure.
The back covers are both fine. I did suspect the receive level of one of the phones, but what I discovered was the 4G signal levels are apparently different from the 3G signal levels. Both phones show a signal level of about -91dbm, no matter which cover I have on, so I kind of dismissed signal levels as a problem. Swapping the covers from phone to phone does not solve the data rate issue.

The problems existed with the phones without changing rom and kernel. Just running right after I went through the procedure.
After checking that the stock one I loaded was having the problem, I've now loaded phone 1 with Carbon 20131113 that has [email protected] kernel version 3.0.101-gb2c73c5. Same problem....

as stated you'll want an older version...that was still 4.3 and not 4.3.1 which would be from early october late september....and what i meant by changing is in the dialer menu i showed try various other ones....what is the one with the phone that gets good signal set to....try setting to lte/cdma auto only

Thanks Reventech, I loaded Carbon 4.3 from October 2, same issues. Tried Pac Man 4.3, same thing. I think it is some kind of radio issue, and did set it to lte/cdma auto only, same issue. It looks like it default connects to CDMA. If I set to LTE only, I get worse problems.
One observation, if I choose LTE, the signal level is worse than CDMA. Is there a reason that choosing a different modulation causes a worse signal level?
Anyhow, any more suggestions before I throw the phone out the window?

On second thought, I moved the SIM into my other Rezound (the one that eats the battery extremely fast), and LTE data rate is superb, so I don't think its the SIM.
Maybe I can fix this phone so it does not drain the battery as fast. Any idea? This one is running straight from your Downgrade/Upgrade procedure with no other ROM installed.
Thanks again,

thats my only suggestion as that what has fixed overheating for me and a few others....i think its cause of the motherboard as first mentioned originally....my ht1 motherboard rez would get insanely hot....where as my fa2 motherboard rezound is superb.....i cant think of what else would cause crappy signal exect for hardware related....ie pins on back of phone that touch back cover is faulty or sim slot is dirty

I thank you for your help as always. Guess I have two bad motherboards, one that drains batteries, one that can't get a decent data rate. I've spent far too much of your time (and way too much of mine) on this project. Will have to bite the bullet and buy a new phone.

Poor Signal,Battery Drain and Low Vol going to a bar...

Hello
got myself an AMAZE well it well built brick ^_^ having the Energy Rom june 21th on it the
Kernel 3.0.16-ga4b83c
[email protected] #1
Baseband 1.14.550L.17DC_30.78.550L.15D
i having 3 main problems :
1. Poor Signal -my crush has SGS2 stocked on 3G network she got full bars on her phone
and mine keeps "playin" some time signal is gone and going back to 2~4
what can be the problem?
i'v changed the band to WCDMA only...same problem.
the Amaze is using the back cover as an antenna so it seems...
when im take it off the signal drop to 0 and the wifi signal dropped to 0 bars.
2. battery drain - well...the Energy rom is battery wise but i have massive drain from 100% to 61 in less then 2hr,i think the battery reading is wrong.
3. Ear Piece Low Volume - during a call i can hear clearly but the volume is too low is there any way to increase the volume a bit?
*bonus Q* the camera app in not the stock one (some kind of blue square) how can i revert back to stock?
^_^ hope that u can help me out .
regards
Guardianbd -ultra spammer
I won't be able to give you a complete answer but a part (big part) of the battery drain may come from the low signal problem: the antenna is using maximum power to keep the connection up so it draws a lot of battery.
For the signal problem was it the same with the stock ROM or with another baseband?

NRG's ROM is having battery issues from what I've been reading. ICS is known to have some signal issues. What is your build version?
Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information -> More
I have no issues with the volume. Did you increase the volume as you are on the phone? lol
Also if you think it's a battery cover issue, call HTC and they'll send you a replacement for free under warranty.

Than try another rom, you got nothing to loose and it will confirm what we say.
For my part the only problem I got with ics is my wifi at home which takes 15-20 minutes before being found by my phone everywhere else it's OK. The cellular network is as good as on GB and for the rest I just love the ROM I'm on actually.
im on Custom Rom with EXT4 Touch RECOVERY i just need to download an CR put it on my SD card
and install it via the EXT4 ?
its the first time for me of flashing kernels and $hit$
Yep, pretty simple to flash a ROM while s-off (and supercid if you use a rom based on another carrier than yours) just download it, it will already be on the SD card on /sdcard/Download or /sdcard/sd-ext/Download depending on the settings.
Once the download is finished just reboot into recovery, make a backup first after this full wipe is a good idea though not always necessary and then you select install a zip from SD card and you just browse to the downloaded zip.
I am not absolutely sure of the following but I think that the only reason why it could fail is that the ROM you try to flash is not from your carrier and you are not supercid. It would be a good idea to check if you are supercid before flashing.
Just ask how to supercid if you are too lasy for reading and have no idea of what is fastboot.

CM9 Radio question

Edit: Updated my radios, still having issues. More info in a thread below.
Hey all,
I recently started running leNoob CM9 mod, and I've noticed that my connection has bottomed out a bit. I normally would have 4-5 bars with little issue, now I'm lucky to have 1 or 2. I dropped a call earlier today, and I haven't had that happen in literal years.
Poking around I noticed there were radio versions better than what I'm currently using: (1.22.10.0421r, 1.22.10.0424r) but I'm completely unsure whether that's the problem here, or how to update them if it is.
I'm S-OFF, if that helps the solutions any.
Thanks for your time!
See the firmware thread in the dev section, you can update just your firmware/radios/etc and not have to run a RUU since you're s-off.

Yes, you can flash the hboot/radio combo by superchilpil, then flash a hacked hboot. Apophis has a thread with hex edited hboots.

I was going to make another thread for this, but hey, I saw this one I made a few days ago and it came in handy.
Since the last time I posted I did the firmware upgrade to the 2.xx radios, but that sadly did not help my issues any. My data connection will randomly drop in any situation; indoors, outdoors, whatever. I can flip my phone to airplane mode and back to restore the data connection, and it usually instantly hits 4-5 bar 4G. Unfortunately, not long after that it'll drop to 1 bar and sometimes stabilize back up to 4-5 and stay there for awhile.
Other times, it'll drop to 3G, 1x, or turn off altogether. 95% of the time it will then just stay off until I reboot the phone or hit airplane mode. The rest of the time it'll come back into 3G or more commonly 1x and stay there until it repeats the above drop process.
I've had this problem on all of the CM9 mods I've tried (currently running Rage 1.2). I've tried various network modes but I've had the greatest success of getting any signal on the LTE/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA setting; the LTE or CDMA / LTE only ever gets 1 bar ever, and never improves.
Before CM9 on Stock ICS I had 4-5 bars anywhere in my house, and even at work (the center of a very large building) I'd still have 2-3 bars and rock solid data connection. I have not yet tried going back to Stock to see if that fixes my issues, but I'm leaning that way unless anyone has some better options here.
Thanks for your time!

I've also been seeing the exact same issue with my signal but since flashing the Global RUU and Rage. Previously I was on older radios and NeoMax and had high performance on the signals and battery life. Battery life has also dropped significantly since the Global RUU and Rage. :/

In Rage 1.2 at least, my screen-off battery life is almost bulletproof. 8 hours not on the charger and it only lost 3%. Screen-on time though is almost exactly the same as Stock, and that includes going to the Wheatley governor, sio, underclocking the CPU and cranking the screen brightness way down.
As far as the radio issue goes, somewhere in the Rage thread Neo mentioned that radios on AOSP roms atm are hit and miss; some people have no problems, some people have constant problems. Currently there's really nothing they can do about it IIRC, and we'll basically just have to wait until someone can pin down the problem. Either that or go back to a Sense based rom, to which I say, phooey!
Try flashing a ruu then doing a factory reset in hboot after before restoring recovery. Worked for me

[Q] Need a hint on my problems

CDMA/GSM modules don't work adequately with vigor360 v 1.0 - they seem to eat the battery in half of a day. Be very grateful if you could advice some better version for simultaneous work of the modules. The phone operates in Eastern Europe, if that may help.
Somehow the proximity sensor failed. I'm not sure whether it is due to the firmware or it had just simply died. Wonder if there's a way to check.

Well, that's the problem, as I have CDMA/GSM carrier at once, but I'm guessing my version of firmware is not quite suitable for that. Though I know that same phones with CDMA/GSM work purfectly in the US.

Alot ofthe stuff made by developers on here was made mainly for us carriers...also perhaps you may have skipped an ots update...if your phone gets really hot it isnt because the rom and thats what is causing your battery drain issues...it may also be because you are getting a location wakelock from your carrier
Reboot your phone to the bootloader (pull the battery, put it back, volume down and power til you get to the white screen) and see what version hboot you're on, the latest is 2.28.
For your proximity sensor, try this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.incredicontrol.ProxSensorCalibrator
Adjust the High threshold til the sensor switches to far. If you crank it all the way up and it never changes, I'd say it's bad, otherwise, bump it up a couple more numbers once it switches and set the app to keep it's settings on boot.

Htc desire 630 - Sharing Best Practices & Discussions

Hi Everyone
I bought a HTC Desire 630 dual sim model couple days back. It is to be used as my secondary phone. So far, It is been a good experience with few hiccups. Just wanted to ask you guys a few questions on the device.
1) Is it just me who feels so or is the display really not that great? It comes of as okay to me most times but I definitely see a lot of grains when browsing or navigating through play store. Any thoughts on this?
2) The device doesn't seem to have a 2G/3G/4G toggle like the way I am used to. Which one should I select if I have to restrict my device to only 2G/3G? I don't need the device to be looking for 4G and drain battery. I use my primary phone with 4G. 3G will do for this phone. So, which one should it be? 1) Global Mode 2) CDMA Mode 3) GSM/UMTS Mode.
3) I am aware of the root method for this device. But is there a S-OFF exploit available for this device?
4) Are you guys able to pull off a day in single charge? In my couple days experience, I am not able to. That's one of the primary reasons that I don't want the device to hunt for 4G and drain battery.
5) Are you guys getting stable data connectivity? I seem to face issues. The connectivity seems delayed than my other phone. It takes like a good 30 seconds to download data, is what I feel. Again, one of the reasons I want the phone to look only for 3G/2G.
Hi
The phone automatically switch 2g 3g 4 g depending on network in the global mode I didn't face any network issue.. over phone is highly optimize..for the better performance..I agree only battery issue ..but it's not a bigger Deal..

Oh Okay. Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I agree global mode switches between different connections. But my guess is that it would drain more battery. I am using a 3G sim. So, after searching the internet for sometime, I figured out that I should be selecting GSM/UMTS mode. This switches between 3G/2G, serves my purpose.
You actually don't need S-off. I am rooted and was able to get rid off duplicate and bloat applications by booting into recovery and deleting them from the in-built file manager. I was also able to push applications into system using the same method. Did all the addition, removals and reset the phone by wiping data, cache and dalvik cache. Now, I have got a mean lean device that performs the way I want it to. I got to say, using HTC device is a delightful experience.
I have rooted, installed Xposed as well. Can anyone help me with good compatible modules for HTC Marshmallow phones?

Problem with network signal on Sim 1 or Sim 2

I use a X829 4/64 GB and i recently noticed that i DO NOT HAVE ANY MOBILE NETWORK SIGNAL on Sim 1 (no data no calls). The truth is that during the last time i stopped using my le max 2 as my daily phone, so although i flashed many different " eui" roms i did not tried to insert my sim cards in the phone and try make any calls as i had no problem in the past. Yesterday i flashed AICP - Oreo - X2 (very good by the way) and this time i have the same problem with Sim 2. Some members have created similar threads in the past but i did not found any solution. I really wonder if someone here has any idea or any solution

I really appreciate your reply. Thank you. To be honest I already had this in mind but i finally solved the problem after flashing the zip file that andr68rus gave at this post:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71130265&postcount=5
Just to notice that, although i am not totally sure (since i had to use my phone for a long time), i think that the network quality is also better now as i think that i have better signal than before

I did not went back to stock. I flashed the zip when i was on latest Cuoco92 23s rom (coming from Oreo, as i was trying to find a solution) and then i flashed Oreo again. In both cases i had both sim cards wotking with a better (as i belieeve) network signal than the previous months i used my phone
I had the same problem with my network and the newest cuoco92 rom, but flashing the zip-file of andr68rus seems to have solved the problem! At least at the moment, the networks works again und I also have the feeling, the strength of the connection is much better than ever before!
Update:
The flash somehow only worked shortly. After a day or so, I had the same problem again. No network at all ( (neither data nor for phone calls), although the phone shows good network connetction! Strange.

For testing reasons i'm using the phone continuously for more than two weeks and i have not any problem at all. Considering that the network signal is better either at my home and at my work i believe that the zip from andr68rus made the "miracle". Of course i do not know what the zip file really did after flashing it (and if the better network signal is because of it) but i can "enjoy" the results
can i flash this on oreo

My sim sometimes shows no service when I switch data from 1 sim to another sim. After restart or several times turning on/off then it shows my sim.
Don't know if it's rom related issue or not but I want to try this zip as users reported that it works like magic.
Is it OK to flash?
Thankyou for your response

When you switch data from the one sim to the other it is normal to loose the signal for a while . It happens with every phone but normally the signal "comes" back again in a few seconds. I don't know if the zip will work for your problem but why don't you ask andr68rus "directly"?
So it's normal?
Yup that exact scenario. So if it's normal then I think it's ok.
I have already flashed this zip and now my data works better then ever. I have sent him pm but he didn't reply. Now you already cleared things up for me. Thanks for your response.
Can someone tell me does both sim slots supports LTE or not?
I am wondering if it might be possible, that this data connection issue is related to the battery status of the phone?
At least, with a fully charged battery fresh from the charger (for example in the morning), I typically always have good connection. The same when loading during the day. But then, and after a while without charging I loose connection or it gets more unstable at least.
Did somebody observe something similar?

Yes. Both sim slots support LTE (but as every phone, not at the same time of course)

It "sounds" strange. Personally i never had similar problems nad i think that this is not a common problem
I found that on a German website, the same problem that I observed concerning the network connection and the battery was also reported. For everybody able to read German, you find it here:
https://www.android-hilfe.de/forum/leeco-le-max-2-x820-x821-x822.2715/lte-bricht-zusammen-keine-verbindung-bei-akku-unter-60-mit-netzteil-ok.860971.html
They report that the network works very stable as long as the battery voltage is above 4 V. Once it is lower, the phone loses connection. If this is generally true, then this might be the problem in my case. With the phone coming from the charger, the voltage is about 4.3 V, but relatively quickly if falls below 4 V.
Is this purely a battery problem? Or could maybe some software modifications somehow help?

i wish to know this too did you find a solution?
No, but I will let the battery change. I can update you if this is successful or not!

Please add me to update.
As mentioned in another thread, I have been experiencing the same problem when the battery level goes down to 70% or less (~4volt) the mobile network indicator still shows good signal but both voice and data stop working ie. cannot make or receive phone calls and no internet connectivity. But as soon as I plug in the charger, everything works perfectly.
