[Q] Screen Issues with Medium Grays - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I noticed this the first day I had my phone, but thought it was just a fluke or some new touchwiz feature akin to the "linens" that iOS 5,6 had. But my note 3, white now on full stock MJ4, never rooted or tampered with yet seems to have some banding and aberrations with displaying medium grays. I have attached a screenshot that you can download and try for yourself. I am positive this is a bug, and with my limited knowledge I feel it is a software issue more than a hardware one that will hopefully get fixed.
Steps to really see the problem:
Download my screen shot on to your Note 3 (or open chrome browser, remove all windows so it is the gray background with the product logo as attached, then screen shot it yourself)
Do the following in a dark environment to see it best. (please)
Open the screenshot in gallery.
Zoom into it and pan around.
Play with different brightness settings and see if the banding with grays is more evident.
Turn on screen rotation, rotate screen.
Zoom and pan on the same screenshot in landscape view to see that the banding is apparent still only on the Y-axis, proving it was not part of the image.
I attempted to capture this on video and even scan it in my scanner, but it wasn't obvious like it is to my eyes. I want to know, does this affect other people's note 3s? If so I won't care as it really isn't a problem. But if it's just my handset, then I want to get it swapped out instead of risking a bad screen or any other on board hardware. I am most worried because the problem is different day to day and the banding seems to be greater towards the bottom of the screen
If you did all this, thank you!

Same issue here as well as my girlfriends N3. If you mess around with the different display settings (dynamic, professional photo, etc) it increases it or decreases it. I've only noticed this with Chrome however. I will boot up my Evo 3D to see if it does it on there as well as my 2k12 N7.

EDIT**
found the file:
just not good quality when applied to my phone, is there a way to fix the resolution? Im not good with photo editing
How picky are you about how it looks? I can't do anything about the original, but 5 mins in photoshop should produce a very close replica.

that would be sweet
Edit: Ok, here is the 800x480 version of the picture. The caveat is that I can not get it to display properly on my phone. Under the select wallpaper screen it fits perfectly, but then it shows up funky when you look at the actual home screen.
Edit 2: Use this version, but do not crop out the black. For some reason it is only displaying 1/2 of the image, so by adding extra it displays the whole wallpaper cleanly.
Edit 3: If you need a scrollable version let me know.

THANKS! now if only i could get the icons, your the best!
In the main Android forum there is a massive thread full of icon sets. I suggest looking there. You probably won't find something identical, but you may find something similar.

Can quality of screen shots be increased?

I don't know how much this matters to others, but I've noticed on my phone that when I do the hand-swipe motion to capture a screen, it works fine but the quality is mediocre. Everything from the color density to the clarity just isn't as crisp/accurate as I would assume and hope it to be. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, has anyone found a way (even if it's an app) that this can be remedied?
I also just tried the ddms approach, it doesn't work for me; screen comes up a peach-ish color across the entire thing.

You're the first I've heard of this problem. All the screenshots should just be unmolested PNGs (without any h/w overlay effects baked in (like mDNIe)) no matter how you take 'em: homebutton+powerdown, handswipe, ddms, airdroid, ...
Post an image of your screenshot here so people can see what you're talking about?

It's just not as...crisp/clear/vivid as it is on my phone. Even the color itself is off. The 2nd one below it is of my old wallpaper, which is a better example of how it's more a faded version of what I see on the phone.

I really wish I could get the ddms method to work, but in the meantime the (minor as it may be) difference between the screen captures and originals bugs a little. It just seems like most of the screen shots I see others post (such as in the thread dedicated to it) look much more vivid.

WEIRD screen "colouring" when automatic brightness is maxed out

Hello overyone,
I Googled and found nothing, so I'm here. Let's see what experts think...
What's happening:
When the "automatic brightness" function is turned on and the smartphone itself is exposed to the sun, it tends to "overdo" the level of brightness (and in a VERY strange way). Whole screen starts to look "washed out" and COMPLETELY strange. It is perfectly visible for example in a black version on Messenger. Display is not just "washed out", the letters is "outlined" aswell (kinda looks like is was "overbrightnessed" and "washed out" or "oversharpened" in some raster editor). At first I thought that it has to be a HW problem (really looks like display is broken or poorly connected to the bus). It is difficult take a picture of the phenomenon, so I tried to decribe it AND tried to replicate it:
Here is original screen of header banner of XDA forum - in darker enviroment the screen looks like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Here is the modified one, looks very simmilar to the phenomenon what's occuring on the phone (brightness is pumped up and "sharpen" effect is pumped up (highly overused)) - in brighter enviroment (outdoor) the screen looks like this:
When the problem occured:
Yesterday. From all of the sudden. I have the phone for month or something, mabye less. No any problems until now.
What I tried:
Identifying the problem. Looks like SW problem. Occuring only in sunlight with "high" brightness. When the fron camera is covered, display darkens and the problem completely disappears. I tried restarting the phone, checking for updates, messing with the brightness settings. Nothing helped. When you make a screenshot, the picture is obviously fine.
Any ideas what it could be? Last thing to try is to factory reset the phone, but I do not want to do it right away obviously.
The phone has a valid warranty, so returning it is always an option (and I'll do it if I don't figure out what it might be).
Thanks for trying, have a wonderful day!
John
'Increased contrast' color profile fixed this problem for me.
Ha! Thats it! Thank you a lot!
I'm excited that the phone is completely ok. That means I'm happy with it so far.
It keeps me wondering, how is it possible that such a bad (non-functioning) feature is included and not patched? Instead of improving readability it turns the screen into complete mess.
Again,
thank you.

Question Screen problem when unlocking with fingerprint

I've set up fingerprint app lock. In the unlock screen, the display appears bright on the right and black on the left. Until this morning, everything was always black on these screens. Now I don't know why it turns on the LEDs on the right. The photo exaggerates the effect but it is evident. By setting the brightness to the minimum everything is normal; Raising it a little, it begins to be noticed. This problem is present only on these screens (during the unlock of apps) and nowhere else. How can I fix it?
thank you

I tried to activate and deactivate it but nothing changes. I have also downloaded several apps to test the screen and trying with all types of lighting I don't have any problems. Could it be something related to the fingerprint reader?

Try unlocking with and without DC Dimming. It's in Developer Settings, see if anything changes
It may be a silly suggestion but make sure the lockscreen wallpaper is pure black
This is a common issue with most optical scanners. With somewhat grey background such as yours, the partial lighting up of the amoled can disclose all the uneven calibration. This can be minimised to a greater degree with software updates, like how Apple, Samsung or even Vivo did. In my GT2 Pro this issue is absent in general.
I contacted Realme support and they suggested I send it to the warranty repair center. Could they improve calibration or replace the entire display? Or is it useless to send him for assistance?

Question Action / Sports shots with the default camera

What is the best way to take an action shot with the S23 Ultra? I am not an avid photographer but do want to take decent not-blurry pics from kids sports activities. Is it possible without going into RAW mode and changing exposure settings? Back in the day, my Note 8 had a "sports" mode that was easy to use though haven't seen it in a while. But I do see a "food" mode that I'll never use...
The "motion photo" setting is useful; it can only be viewed and edited with Samsung Gallery app though. The phone allows you to make gifs too.
This is on my N10+/Pie, presumably the S23U still has these options.
There's also burst mode.
Live tracking as well which may or may not be useful. Set up is rather convoluted as certain options are only available at certain resolutions, fps or with other options. Guides for other older models may be helpful if the S23U guides aren't providing enough information. Many of the features date back years.

A combination of burst mode and live tracking is definitely your best option.
I would still recommend looking into gcam using this gcam and config :
Post in thread 'Working GCAM for S23 Ultra' https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/working-gcam-for-s23-ultra.4550019/post-88277895
That version will offer face focus tracking by default which is great for kids action shots. You can also enabling focus tracking if you often need to take pictures of your kids without seeing their faces but otherwise, you want to leave focus tracking disabled so it better tracks faces. Picture quality for the time being will be better than stock cam.
In the end though, even under good light conditions, smartphones won't do miracles for action shots as their focus system isn't that fast. But I'm sure with stock or gcam you can manage some decent shots
