Best handwriting recognition out! - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Themes and Apps

Stylus Beta.
I used it recently to take notes after getting sick and tired of S-Notes not formatting my writing into text the way I wanted.
Try bringing up a blank word document and taking notes that way. I have the worst handwriting in the world and it kept up with no problems.

You weren't kidding! I wonder if there is any way to set it up to work only when the s- pen is detected.

Can you please provide a link to the playstore as there are many stylus apps on there?

It's called "MyScript Stylus Beta"
Edit: Btw, it works great. I'll definitely purchase this when its offered. My new favorite tool/kbd.
Thanks for the heads up.

Ho Ho! Much appreciated! Just bought the app!

thanks guys awesome apps

I would suggest to have a look at MyScript Notes Mobile (same company), which is designed for devices with S-Pen. I used that already on my Note 10.1 (N8000).

Me too
I use S pen board switcher with smart keyboard and MyScript stylus beta. Smart is awesome for typing and I can hit around 30-40 wpm with it. MyScript is the best too, much much faster and less glitchy, than the stock keyboard.

[Q] [Request] Keyboard application

Hi everyone.
I bought one of these phones and I came to a problem. Before this one I had a Xperia X8 and it's keyboard had an useful feature: while typing, if I made any mistake it suggested words, ie, imagine typing 'hekko' and there was a suggestion 'hello'. The android keyboard doesn't have any dictionary, I have to insert every single word, the LG keyboard only gives me "predictions" (if I mistype any word, it won't give me any suggestion).
Do you know any keyboard app that does the same of X8's?
I'm using Smart Keyboard PRO. It's not for free, but it's work realy nice for me. Becouse I'm from czech, find support for this minor language is really hard, but this keyboard have it! I also wrote some time in eglish and it works also fine. I love many of possiblities how to configure this keyboard.
It cost $2.73 so it's not too much I think. If you are not sure, you can also use trial version of this keyboard for free.

Does anyone know where to get a functioning multilanguage Swype for the LG? I managed to install Version 2.6.47.11856 on my HTC Desire, but on my girlfriends Optimus One it crashes when I try to type something.

I installed Swype on Opt1 and it works very well without any crash.

I have installed your own version using a file.apk.
The file name is swype_2.6.47.11856_HVGA.apk , If you want I can upload the file.apk on some free host and so you can download and install it on your opt1.

Hello,
I must say that until now the LG keyboard is the best. It has the xt9 feature and is capable to write in so many languages. Don't know what issue u have with yours nut mine works like a charm. Some times misses a word but nothing dramatic.
Cheers

In my previus phone (galaxy i7500), the Android keyboard was able to autocomplete.
I don't know why the Android keyboard on the O1 is lacking this feature.
I'm using the LG keyboard aswell. Took me a bit to come into it,but it's really good and has an autocomplete feature.

How are those "suggestions" different from the LG keyboards autocorrections (which IIRC have to be turned on in the settings menu)? IMHO the LG keyboard is pretty good at guessing what I meant to type.

I second the motion for Smart Keyboard. I use the FREE trial.
While you are at it, you may want to try out "autotext" which is a great "text expander". i.e. you type "xda" it can suggest: "forums.xda-developers.com" if you configure it to.
I use mine to expand signatures, email addresses, and even templates.
plus, it supports macros: %d is expanded to current date, %t to current time.
additionally, you can resize the key heights, if you want to see more of the screen or want a bigger key for bigger fingers.
also set it to learn new words, and use your Contacts Dictionary.
It's a great keyboard.
-------------------------------------
You may want to check WiFi Keyboard as well, if you have a wireless router setup at home, it will enable you to enter from your PC Keyboard over wifi.
-------------------------------------
If you do not know yet, long press on a "text box" will allow you to switch "Input Method" (a.k.a. keyboard on the fly)
Good day! Hope this helps you out!

you can resize "smart keyboard" keys.
Home Screen --> menu key --> settings --> Language and Keyboard --> Smart Keyboard Trial --> General Settings --> Key Height
And as I mentioned in a previous post, you may want to check out "Wifi Keyboard", if you have access to a wireless router and your PC. That way you get to use a real keyboard.
Good Day! Hope this helps!

Automatic Keyboard Switcher App

As far as I'm aware nothing like this currently exists, and it's become all the more desirable with devices such as the transformer/prime. I keep my keyboard set to the Asus keyboard to ensure complete compatibility with the dock, but when I undock it I prefer to use Swype. It would be awesome if there was an app/setting that could detect the dock and change my input settings accordingly.
+1
Nice one. Just half an hour ago i was looking for the same thing without finding anything... This would help i imagine something that is automated or with a widget for the desktop. So I can plug in the dock hit the widget and the IME is switched.
Btw I think this is my first xda post written with the transformer prime. OMG this is sooo good!!!
I need this app too
But this App requires root, I think. It is impossible to change the standard keyboard programmatically.
see here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3916184/android-set-default-keyboard
As a UK user the need is equally as acute even basic symbols (£, @ etc.) are on different positions on UK keyboards. The dock has them in the correct place, but use anything other than the Asus software keyboard and the whole thing gets messed up!
theres a wii mote app i used on my PoV Mobii that changes to selected keyboard on disconnect without the need for root...
Tasker?
I have yet to venture into tasker on the tablet yet but I am guessing you could get it done with this app. Very functional automation tool for android.

Here is my a little bit more permanent solution:
[MOD] Adjust your hardware keyboards default language
This includes changing /system files, so you need to be rooted.
Works perfectly for me

Behold! Keyboard manager! The app you seek!
You'll have to search the market for "keyboard manager" since I'm not allowed to post links yet...
Recently open-sourced, but not before the author added support for hardware keyboard detection. I had to dock/undock a couple times after activating the app to get everything peachy. Be sure to select the keyboard you want for all 3 options - portrait, landscape, and hardware. This DOES require ROOT.

Keyboard Manager is confirmed working on my rooted Android 4.0.3 Prime. I have my tablet keyboard set as Thumb Keyboard 4 and my hardware keyboard as the default Asus keyboard for dock compatability.

Stock Samsung Keyboard

Hello folks!
I'm looking for a way to rearrange the buttons on the Stock Samsung GS2. I know there are many custom keyboards, but I want to use the stock Sammy keyboard, because it's the best in terms of accuracy and buttons size. Can I manually rearrange the buttons, because my laungauage (Bulgarian) is not in QWERTY but in BDS format which is very uncomfortable for me. I'm root user, so don't tell me "You need root to do this", just say the way I could possibly do it, please. I've thought so far for decompiling the keyboard app, but still haven't tried.
I'm searching in Google for quite a lot time about this, but still haven't found an answer. Thanks to anyone willing to help!

I do have the paid version of Swiftkey 3 but it's so incorrect for me. Buttons are too thin, I can't (in most cases) tap the required one. Interesting fact is that I was a lot better with Swiftkey 2. It's suggestions were better also, now in version 3 I get good corrections very rarely so I have to manually type everything. And I don't like typing manually on Swiftkey because of the many mistakes I make.
Yesterday some user extracted his Galaxy Nexus' keyboard and posted it on the forums. I'm typing now from it and what to say..... it's perfect. I made 4-5 mistakes while writing this post. Too bad that keyboard doesn't have Bulgatian. I should try another ICS keyboard from the market.

Can I adopt the "Air view" of the S4 to the Nexus 4?

Hi. The GS4 has a feature that I really like, I don't know how it's called but it basically allows you to hover your finger over picture albums and messages and it will show some sort of a preview to that. Similar to the functionality of the S Pen, but with your finger.
It's really awesome and I wish more phones would have it. But then I thought to myself, it's a software thing, no? Just decrease the threshold of the capacitive net below the screen and it could read the finger from about 1cm... Am I correct?
Theoretically, can I build a software that will have this feature for the Nexus 4 for example?
Thanks,
Oren
edit: It's called "Air view".

No, the S4 does support this feature, but instead of the S-Pen, you can simply just use your finger. I too, am also curious about whether or not this is a software or hardware feature because I would LOVE to have this feature in my phone, even if it meant having to use a touchwiz rom. If I had to guess though, I would guess its hardware related, but who knows, maybe it isn't?
It's most probably hardware related

I use Awesome Note from the Galaxy note 8.0. I would definitely check that out. Google "Awesome note galaxy 8" and click the first link to read about it and also download it.
You can also get the g note apk through google as well. Google "g note apk" and click the first xda link. Always always always try google first man, it will help a lot:good:
Also Handy note pro is a great note taking app I use as a backup when I write lengthy notes in class. It has a magic pen feature that keeps your handwriting in straight lines kinda as if you were writing on lined paper. It's weird at first but a great feature once used to it. It has a free version to try out I believe, otherwise handy note pro you have to pay for. (you can get it free by many means but I don't think I'm allowed to disclose that unless you pm me) check any of these apps out and see how they work for you.
Quill
Don't quote, reply. If you quote, edit.
I use GMD S-Pen control from the play store. It has many built-in gestures and you are able to create your own gestures as well. I think it works really well with all the jellyBean roms...
I've tried all of these options here except for GMD S-Pen and here's what I found:
Awesome note galaxy 8 - Does not work well with AOSP ROM's like CyanogenMod. I installed it and could not make it work. My device kept FCing; not only that the whole phone was never stable after that. I had CM 10 at the time.
Handy note pro - Is fine and has a lot of features but does not take advantage of the side button of the stylus.
Quill - Was ok. Didn't have good export features.
The ones I have found to be the best at least for me are:
Papyrus - Papyrus takes advantage both the stylus button and single finger touch. You have the option to buy additional feutures, like true erase etc or export to Dropbox.
Memo - Also takes advantage of stylus button and finger touch but does not allow for many options as Papyrus
Write - Also takes advantage of stylus button and finger touch but does not have option to import image. It has real good edit controls and you can set up bookmarks within your notes.
Notable mentions:
Jotter - Is a nice note taker but does not take advantage of stylus button nor single-finger.
S-Pen Voice - This app allows you to record voices while you write; it's the recommended way of taking notes in school The free version is limited. Not sure if you would want to record voice everytime you take a note.
Bamboo - This app is from Wacom, the makers of the Note screen. It has the feeling of a real note-pad but has limited functionality.
I think I've just about listed all the remaining S-Pen apps. Please suggest any other ones not listed here.
