[Q] What am I doing wrong? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hello. I am new to forums in general. In fact I made this account just now so I can get some help as I cannot seem to find an answer anywhere.
I am trying to flash clockworkmod to my Galaxy S4. I have successfully rooted with the help of Odin and Motochopper. I downloaded Rom Manager from the playstore and used it to flash(?) CWM 6.0.4.4. When I try to boot into recovery a yellow triangle with an exclamation point appears with the text, "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest Verizon Wireless store for help." In the top left corner of my screen it also says Secure Fail: Kernel. If I reboot into download mode and press the volume key down, my phone resets and boots up normally. What is going on?
I have tried using these methods but they don't work.

I have done everything this post has told me to do yet when I input the commands into Terminal Emulator it tells me that the files do not exist.

I have done everything this post has told me to do yet when I input the commands into Terminal Emulator it tells me that the files do not exist.
I have SU (#) access in Terminal Emulator.
I have also been following this guide here:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_jfltevzw
but the prepare and flash recovery image step makes no sense to me.
My SuperSU is up to date. My rootchecker also states that I have root access.
I have version MDK.
Can anyone help me please?

I agree. What he's referring to is installing TWRP 2.6.3.1. The easiest way is the method he described. The normal method is here: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/181

I'd say it's because the file is in your download folder. Not in the path the post uses. Direct the path to your dl folder

So to use rom and goo manager I need to download the cwm or twrp file? I thought the apps did that themselves. As for using odin.. where can I find a pre rooted stock rom?

If your rooted. Put the twrp image at the root of your sdcard. Internal storage.use terminal emulator to flash it. The link above in the earlier post will direct you to the twrp site. Choose direct download. But below that it has instructions for how to flash twrp via terminal emulator. I recommend version 2.5.0.2. Not the latest.

Thank you so much! I now have TWRP 2.5.0.2 recovery. I have also successfully flashed Cyanogen Mod 10.2 to my phone. Now my only problem is... My 3g doesn't work? My wifi is just fine. I have the 3g option enabled as well. I am also unable to send text messages yet I can receive them. I can also make and receive phone calls.
NEVER MIND! I restarted my phone and now my 3g and texting work just fine I love you so much mightycaptain.. Can I have your babies?

Came here to say, just in case someone else cannot follow the steps described by mightycaptain you can flash back to stock and start over. My personal savior is a the VRUAMDK_NoWipe.tar. You can pick it up here: http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-stock-firmware/
NOTE: Flashing back to stock does not always work and can make things worse depending on your situation. USE the forum search function before you flash.:highfive:

Now that we have root, can we edit the build.prop to remove the 'At&t' in the left corner of the notification bar?
Also, changing the 4G/4G LTE icons to the international HSPA/LTE icons?

I know I just was curious to test out the lock status. If anything the other G2 versions should be able to use it.
Shouldn't this be in the development section....
If I can root the VZW version, I'm buying one tomorrow.

Yes I took the plunge and am rooted. Confirmed was able to edit Build.prop to change LCD Density, and also hid Soft Keys.
What you need to do:
I take no credit for the method used here and I'm not responsible to bricks or something going wrong. With that in mind this is what you do.
1. Download and Install the LG United Mobile Drivers: Can be found here: http://d-h.st/EW4
2. Next make sure your ADB is working, on the G2 goto Settings: About Phone: Software Information: Click Build Number 5 times. Go back and choose Development Settings Enable USB Debugging.
3 command prompt and type adb devices, you should see your Serial Number and online.
4 Now that we know ADB is working, download this: http://www.mgyun.com/vroot
5. Yes it is in chinese, install it, then run it while your phone is plugged into your USB port on your PC.
6, The program will do some checks once its finished it will pop a screen that has the model number of the phone LG-D800 and a check mark. Notice the button on the bottom right, it says ROOT with some chinese lettering.
7. Click it and wait, the phone will reboot after a couple minutes. Once it reboots you will be rooted. Also it will install a Chinese language Root Manager. This is temporary.
8. Now we will replace the Chinese binary with an English one. Download superuser by clockworkmod from the play store. Open it and grant root permission (right button when the window pops up in Chinese). Superuser will ask to update the binary, hit install. Now exit by swiping superuser out of recents.
9. Now open titanium backup, install from play store if you don't have it. Find the Chinese root manager app and either uninstall it or freeze it.
10. Next open superuser again and once again install the superuser binary when asked. Reboot. You should now be rooted in English.
11. Optionally you can install Busybox with Busybox installer like I did.

Goo Manager not working, can anyone upload a twrp file please?

Hey guys,
Just rooted my N3 and was trying to install TWRP. However, goo manager is down and all their upload links do not work. I tried downloading it from a mirror site but was only able to get a 75kb file that wasn't quite working in odin.
Can anyone please upload a copy of their TWRP tar file please?
Edit: Found an older one but once the goo manager servers are back up, it'll be no problem getting the newest one

Here's the other mirror that has tar of newest version. Just download and flash with Odin
http://www.techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hltespr
thanks for the link. got it flashed using 1.85 odin.
I think it might be "broken" though. I can't seem to flash anything. error's "unable to mount usb storage"
when I goto install and pick source I see 3 options
internal external and usb but usb shows as 0mb
??? somethings hinky maybe? maybe that is why we can't download via goomanager? maybe something wrong with current version of twrp
any suggestions?
also romtoolbox can't reboot into recover (error) but titanium does (easier than doing the finger dance)

Do you have a otg cable and a usb flash drive plugged in to it. If not you will get a no usb. Just mount your internal or external memory. Where ever you put the flash

Just a quick note the in rom recovery flashers have had problems for a while now. Every update sprint or samsung tend to restrict more access to internal settings from the rom level/ kernel level. There are a few professional devs here who have managed to fix in the past but since the note 4 is out now i doubt we will recieve as much atention on these updates for things like this.

DO NOT update to MJ7. You are very lucky to have gotten an MDK phone. Read the Hyperdrive thread, I believe flashing instructions are in the first post. With an MDK phone you'll be able to flash any Verizon S4 ROM, including AOSP builds, if you so choose.

is that the first page where says to
1. You MUST READ Through the Entire first page of the Thread
2.You MUST be ROOTED
3. You MUST have a custom recovery installed!
For Verizon Users
FOR MDK Unlocked Phones (TWRP/CWM)
1. Download latest Hyperdrive Rom version
2. Reboot into Recovery
3. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
4. Wipe cache and dalvik cache
5. Install Rom
6. Reboot (First Boot may take up to 10 mins)
7. Let Phone sit for 10 minutes
8. Reboot again
9 Enjoy!
As said DO NOT UPDATE. Read up on loki. Your phone is rare in that it still has the original software on it, its the only one that has an exploit to bypass the bootloader. If you update you could lose custom recovery forever.

If your s4 is mdk turn off and boot to recovery by holding volume up and power...if its mdk and running hyperdrive you should already have custom recovery installed...if so you can run pretty much anything available...do some reading and learn up...post your recovery version here...it may not be up to date...older versions work well but don't always play nice with newer ROMs...if you need any help just ask...I myself as well as many others are more than willing to help...if you don't know ask...you don't wanna brick an mdk as chances are you won't find another one

Install ROM Manager, from the market. When you open it, it will tell you what recovery you're on. Or just boot into recovery.

Most likely the advanced reboot menu is active. Press and hold the power button. If there is a reboot to recovery, press it. If not, press reboot. If a new menu pops up, press recovery. If not. Power off. Now his the up volume button and press power until it starts up. Then let go of just the power button until some tiny blue writing shows up in the upper left. Then let go of the volume button and wait for the recovery to boot.
Then MAKE A BACKUP. Select that option and do it with the default settings.
Keep your phone plugged in.
Then install the V12 you downloaded. It's aroma so it will step you through.
And keep reading everything you can.

Welcome to the MDK master race!
Depending in which recovery you want to use CWM or Team Win. Most likely it has a recovery already installed, go to the power menu and pick recovery mode, you boot to the recovery.
You can update to the latest modem via the modem thread.
Rom build and baseband are different thinks when on the MDK version.
Like someone said here dont upgrade to any other version example MJ7.
The only thinkvyour ever going to need to upgrade to the latest greatest Rom/Android version is your recovery.

Phillz Touch Base is the go to CWM for Verizon imho its in the Development Thread. You can update any recovery by just downloading the zip file and flashing it with the older one.

NEED HELP: Accidentally deleted OS in TWRP/Cant install Rom

Hello all,
New to the HTC One and hit the wrong damn box going to quickly and deleted the OS. Device shows "unlocked, tampered". In TWRP I can transfer a rom with my Mac using ADB side load. But when trying to install the rom.zip it fails automatically. Android Revolution is the rom I'm trying to install. Is there a way to just install stock ATT 4.4.2 and start fresh? Edit: Just tried flashing a rom from external sd with no luck either.
Anybody?
Can get to bootloader mode?

Yes, I can get to boot loader. The phone is recognized through ADB and through fast boot. Just have no clue how to get an OS back on the phone, just got the phone and hadn't done a backup since there wasn't anything on it yet. (stupid me)...Can I use the stock backup from this thread?

Anybody got any ideas to nudge me in the right direction would be very much appreciated!

I've been reading about the RUU mode but how exactly do I go about it? I downloaded a stock backup from Mr. Hofs post based off my CCID, I'm just not sure how to get my phone back up and running:/ Just want to get it back to stock and I'll leave it alone.
Currently there isn't a RUU for stock sense just stock android for the GPE edition . Only way to get a stock Rom is to flash a recovery back up after u do the steps in that Thread .

What about just flashing a custom rom then?
Try to just mount in TWRP (not sideload) and adb push the custom ROM of your choice to the phone storage.
Not sure if this will put you in any better position. But its worth a try.

The is an actual "Mount" button on the TWRP homescreen. But it should already be setup by default (you can check in the "Mount" options) to mount the phone's data partition when you boot into TWRP and have USB connected.
After you've pushed the ROM to the phone's memory, install from TWRP the "usual" way. I think I've seen there this method has worked for people when ADB sideload did not (on my old EVITA). So hopefully this will work for you.
I did the same thing. I downloaded the custom ROM to internal memory .. popped into TWRP .. .. .. formatted all memory (INCLUDING Internal) .. then had 3.23454542234 seconds of wondering where my ROM was. LOL
All I did was copy the ROM to a MicroSD card (from a different PC with Micro to SD adaptor) .. installed the MicroSD card into the phone .. then flashed from the MicroSD card .. no worries. Easy Pasy!
EDIT: I see you tried. I also loaded Android Revolution .. I think you might want to try downloading the ROM again? I can confirm that I used that exact ROM and did the same thing of deleting the OS.

Not sure if the push is working.... ./adb push rom.zip /sdcard/data/media
I hit enter and the terminal just sits there so I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly.
Put rom on external sd and install unless TWRP dont see external yet. ALways did this on my last few phones.

A lot of ROMs are almost 2 GB (depending on which ROM, of course). So it takes some time to transfer over.
If there is no error message right away, it might be a good sign its being moved over.

I don't show any OS number in bootloader either, and I am also on Android Revolution. Don't know if it was the same when I was on GoldenEye.

Touchscreen not respoding after rooting and installing custom rom

when writing the title i saw a similair thread and they said he blew his digitizer, posting this question anyway just to see if somebody can confirm that.
Hallo,
First off some details:
I have a galaxy s3 i9300.
I was attempting to install android 4.4.
Due to "error 7" this was a lot harder then it should have been ( the versions of cwm that i could get to work gave error 7 and newer versions did not load)
Eventually i installed philz touch version 6 wich was able to install this kitkat file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=11372
(back-to-n00t_ROM_V9).
However the screen stopped responding, the solutions found using google (take our battery, factory reset, unscrew the back and check a connector) did not work.
I think i got android 4.4 running, the other buttons work fine and i can acces the recovery and the download mode.
During my process i downloaded a kernel of a s2
(https://emilgeorgejames.wordpress.c...ogenmod-11-kk4-4-4-on-samsung-s-ii-gt-i9100g/)
Which, as far as i can see might be the problem, however i dont know anything about kernels etc. i tried installing s3 kernels from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-galaxy-s3-stock-kernel-bootloaders-t2189063) which did not solve the problem.
I installed android 4.3 again from here (http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9300/), i installed the Netherlands version which had a pda of i9300XUGOL2 and a CSC I9300TNLGOC1 (what ever that means)
Currently i am downloading I9300XXEMG5_I9300ODDEMG1_INU from (http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/confirm/17479/I9300XXEMG5_I9300ODDEMG1_INU/) since that matches the kernal version i mentioned above.
Take note, i am very new at this, i spend some time today and yesterday trying to get android 4.4 working which is all the experience i have with this subject.
In advance, thank you all for any help you can provide.
I hope i dont have to buy a new phone, i just wanted to play pokemon go
pls help to get below answer from you
*is touch working on recovery mod(philpz touch recovery)
if it working try with cm 13 it gave pure kernel from source.i think you must need to check your digitizer and also pls see this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ily16gjJw_Y

Screen is still unresponsive.

so my bet is you made the phone go to emergency (touch)-firmware flash and it failed... this occures if you flash a wrong kernel or a kernel that was broken due to download (that happens sometimes... thats why there are md5sums out )
we can fix that but first:
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A i9300 ... then proceed
1. make sure you are on a correct i9300 kernel
2. make sure you are on my latest twrp for i9300
3. make sure to flash latest cm13 official for i9300
if you boot to twrp and the touch dont work then install "minimal adb and fastboot" (no link... google... ) to your PC
then open adb and connect the phone while in twrp
then enter this command in terminal:
adb twrp mount system
adb shell ls /system/etc/
and show me what you see

I definitly installed the wrong kernal at one point, cause im stupid and tought what could go wrong?
I tried to follow your steps.
1. i think i have a correct kernal installed now, i instaled one from (forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-galaxy-s3-stock-kernel-bootloaders-t2189063) i removed the http:// else i cant post the link.
2. i installed 3.0.2-1 for the i9300, however it asks me about unmodified system partitions and to exit that screen i need to have touch screen enabled. It twrp needed or is philz touch / cmw also oke?
3. How do i flash cm13? I have odin but the only cm13 files i could find were either a zip or a recovery.img The zip is on my sd card and installed atm i could reinstall it again from sd card if that also works and then reboot?
thanks for the help
Try to restore your Stock firmware with kies, flash twrp with odin and then install cm13.

Okay i did the following steps:
back to stock with kies
installed philz touch 6
installed cm13 md5sum: db517fbbacdb167b06f5b483dbdce
installed twrp 3.0.2-1
Now i cant use anything in recovery since i cant go passed the partition system.
Using adb i can give commands and i tried your commands.
However i have no clue what to place on the etc part in: "adb shell ls /system/etc/"
When literally typing that it returns: "ls: /system/etc/: No such file or directory"

ok so on sony devices (wich uses rmi4 ) you can flash it directly... on your samsung thats not possible... because you use tsp_malfes .... BUT
1. flash a full stockrom ( for your device !!!)
2. get a usb otg mouse and connect
3. use the mouse to controll your phone now
4. go to dialer and type *#*#2663#*#
this should initialise a touchscreen firmware update

I could try to bypass it by using method 2 mentioned here: http://www.technobezz.com/fix-connection-problem-invalid-mmi-code/
