Rooted SGS4 - Play Store does not connect (either Server Error or No Connection) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Now, you guys probably have seen a few of these threads from the past but hear me out:
I rooted my Verizon Galaxy S4 today with this method, and it successfully rooted my phone. But when I tried launching Google Play/related apps or Gmail, and I'm on my wifi (I don't know if this is just mine, or if it will not work over any wifi, cannot test yet), I either get Server Error or No Connection. Also, notifications say that my connection is unstable despite the fact that it wasn't before root. I narrowed down the Server Error to Adblock Plus, but I get No Connection on my wifi with it disabled. It worked fine before root even with Adblock Plus, but now it's being weird after. I've tried MarketEnabler, clearing the Google Servives Framework and Google Play data/cache, unlinking my Google account, reinstalling Google Play, etc. But all to no avail. Reflashing gapps is not an option because I do not have a custom recovery because of a locked bootloader. So what else could I possibly do to fix the issue? I don't want to have to download all my apps with data because that could rack up huge charges for big apps. I also do not want to have to unroot or restore factory defaults. I haven't touched any apps (besides freezing TouchWiz Home, because I use a different launcher, and Knox Notification Manager in Ti, which shouldn't even affect Google Play or Gmail). So, yeah. That's my issue.

May be a silly question, but have you tried restarting your s4? I have gotten those errors before and a restart helped. I'm on mj7 stock rooted from old and slow and I get the wifi connection unstable when I'm close to out of range.

Dang I was hoping I had helped..maybe someone else can point you in better direction..but if I run across solution I'll post it here for you

That's not something that anyone has reported. I'm assuming that you've removed Adblock Plus (however, that shouldn't have any impact here.)
It's strange that the Wifi problem only happens with Gmail and Google Play.
What I'd suggest is to uninstall the Google Play updates, then reboot. That'll start you with a known good Google Play app. Then, reinstall the updates using Google Play.

I actually have had a few of the same issues and internet apps frequently freeze and crash too. I uninstalled Adblock Plus and it fixed the problem for the most part.

No, I have not removed Adblock Plus. Just turned it off when testing. Uninstalled updates for Google play, it factory-restored to 4.3.11, issue still occurs. Google Play updated, issue persists.

I just found out what the problem was. I had Adblock Plus before root, and had custom network configs. Turns out, since ABP was no longer routing the connections, certain apps couldn't connect. I got rid of the configs, and started Google Play, and BAM it connected. So, I fixed the problem.

[Q] Google Play server error

On ICS and no problems till yesterday, was updating some apps on google play and had to leave the wifi area, closed the prime and next time I get server error. Tried stopping the app deletining cache, still same problem. So tried uninstalling all updates to play and got back to Market, still the same error. Tried a Factory reset and still getting the same error.
Any ideas anyone ?
Just tried looking at Google Play on the PC and does not now recognise the Prime even though Gmail has synched OK on it

Hi,
It might be worth deleting your account, re-booting, re-installing your account , and see if that works.
Tried that, eventually resorted to a Factory reset. Still the same problem and now the Prime is not recognised on the PC Google store whereas it was previously, but Gmail is syncing withe the Prime no problem, really weird. But if I cant access the store its not fit for purpose and is going back

Have you tried simply turning off your Prime's Wi-Fi setting and turning it back on? I got that same Server Error and did not go away until I turned of Wi-fi and back on. Weird, I know. This happened to me like 3 times when I was trying to delete caches and data and whatever else to get rid of the 101 error. Rebooting did not cure it, either ... I had to actually off/on the wi-fi setting. Go figure.
Once you get rid of the server error, if you still have the Market/Google Play error, simply delete your Gmail account under Settings | Accounts & sync by clicking on your Gmail account, then clicking the "options" icon on the upper right of your screen (6 small square dots). Reboot and go back into your gmail accounts, etc ... logging in as necessary.
Hope it works for you, too...
Have the same "server error" on 101 for 2 days already.
Tried everything, including changing to different firmwares, different market versions e.t.c. Not working. And old versions does not auto update too.
Seems like the problem with market server address, but it;s a bit strange that it remains even after changing firmware, and other Google services work normally.

You did not mention removing your Gmail account under Accounts & sync in Settings, then rebooting ... worked like a charm for me. As soon as I logged back into Gmail and went to the Market, all was well. So, if you did not already try it, you might give it a shot. My Prime was getting that error for a full day ... got really annoying.

Hi Michael,
It sounds like you're having general connectivity issues - please try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
- Reboot your device
- Sign in and out of Google Talk repeatedly to restore connection to our servers:
1. Go to your device’s app launcher, and press the Talk app
2. If you’re already signed into Talk, press Menu, and then touch Sign out
3. Launch Talk again to sign in (if you are unable to sign in, please let me know)
- Clear the cache of the Google Play Store app (Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Play Store > Clear cache)
- If you're using WiFi, ensure firewalls are not blocking access to ports required for Google Play (TCP and UDP 5228)
- Confirm that there is strong connectivity on your device, and contact your mobile service provider if you aren't connected
- Uninstall updates to the Google Play Store app by visiting:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, selecting "Play Store" under the "All" tab or filter and touching "Uninstall updates"
If none of these steps resolve the issue, please let me know, and I will continue to investigate the problem - any other detail you can provide about the issue and how/when it occurs will be extremely helpful.

@TaIz82 @stevenshea great! Glad that it worked for you.
@G1azier I tried vpn but no use, maybe I got on wrong one Great that there is this solution too.
@macowbourne
This can hardly be an general connection issue, I have around 600 people visited my blog post, with same issue. And they didn't have it ever before.
One more proof that this is not connectivity problem, all this user can search apps from the phone, but they cant install them in most of cases. So connection to server still exist, problem is with showing filtered content of home screen of Play app for some regions/providers.
Thanks to @G1azier post and his solution, I updated my post with US VPN solution that works even if device is not rooted http://viewoneworld.wordpress.com/2012/03/24/google-play-server-error-quick-fix check it out!
It's definetly at Googles end just used a proxy server to kid it I'm in the UK and hey ho works perfectley all apps downloaded and synced

Authentication error on Google Play Store

Hi Guys
I'm getting the attached error whenever I try to open Google Playstore from my cell.
I'm on Poland LIB firmware.
Things I've tried :
1) clear cache and data
2) Uninstalled updates
3) installed the latest update of Playstore
4) added a new Id (same error)
5) remove and add the previous Id
Gmail is working fine but playstore is giving me this trouble from past 12 hours.
I can log in to play.google.com without any issues.
Currently I'm accessing it through Mobile Data and have no other connection to check this if it's a connection issue or Playstore issue.
I've done no changes to anything and it was working perfectly fine till yesterday evening.
It started giving me this error all of a sudden
Help please.

I am currently suffering from this same problem. Tried everything you have. Even cleaned data/cache then disabled google play store and rebooted phone. Re-enabled play store, tried to open it... stuck loading. Recleared everything, installed google play from apk, reopen. Still stuck loading after re-entering all information. I have had different apps stop working and had to uninstall them. Reinstalling worked on other apps but when it's playstore system apps turn to fail, can't uninstall fully.
I'm rooted so I uninstalled google play with android tuner app i have bought a while ago. I rebooted the phone and did get LG security error. Sadly when google play was reinstalled, this has not fixed the problem. I am doing a factory reset. Using titanium backup and a external sd card, so restoring my apps wont be too tedious. I feel bad if anyone else encounters this problem. I still don't know how it happen.

The specifics may vary, but some general pointers to get the playstore working correctly:
1- first force stop the app when clearing cache and data, , and also do it for google play services and google services framework. Reboot with mobile data and wifi off, turn wifi or data on, then try to open playstore again.
2- repeat step 1, but also remove and add again your google account from settings before opening the playstore.
Make sure you're not using firewall apps or ad blocking apps to reestrict data on google play services, once playstore is up and running you can enable them again.
Make sure you're not using autostart managers or apps like greenify on playstore, google play services, or google services framework. You can apply them again afterwards.
Good luck.
QUICK AND DEFINITELY WORKING FIX: Just clear Google Play data and reboot. Then change your Google login password and let the device ask for new password.
Force sync and all will be back to normal....

I am having some issues with Google Play giving error 927 when updating/downloading apps.
This happens both on wifi and cellular.
Both on my Note 2 on Sammy rom and Desire on 4.2.2.
Is there anything I can do?

I have faced a similar problem long back.. I have done the below steps to recover..
Uninstall updates for Playstore
Clear data for Downlaod manager
Keep the phone connected to internet and reboot
after reboot wait for couple of minutes so that Playstore update will be installed properly.. Then try updating your apps..
I've tried everything
I have tried evey solution that I could possible find to try and stop getting error 927. It's definitly linked to my google account/gmail. When I create a new gmail, everything works fine. Problem is all of my purchased apps are attached to gmail with 927 error. Someone please help. I'm desperate!!!! I have Verizon Galaxy S4. Doesn't matter what I wipe, if I'm rooted or not, or if I try using my account on my wife's S4... All give me error 927!!!

What version of the play store are you running? Also, do you have the background restricted for the play store?
Try the newest Play Store if yours is not up to date. I remember the issue in my S4 and newest version solved it after wiping data and install update.

Yes its the same account I've had going all the way back to the first Android phone. It has gotten better. I ODIn'ed back from a 4.4.2 ROM to a custom 4.3 ROM and my market works most of the time. When it starts actign up I usually have to clear data/wipe caches, restart and wait a bit for it to resync my account. Kind of a pain, but working most of the time is better than none of the time.

How are the Play store on the web working for you when signed in with the account you are having issues with. For me I have trouble loading in anything @all. Especially the top list, and my purchases.
I believe there are issues with older accounts that did not get updated/patched with new settings after ICS update, or the 3.0+ update of their store when it became Play Store and not Android market. When I use my other account all is ok, but there I have no purchased apps.
If you want you can find the 2.3.6 version of Market and replace the Play store and you will find that all issues are gone. Now I use Legazy Play store witch can be used together with normal play. Just need to push it to system/apps on 4.3 or system/priv-apps on 4.4.
Use all this advise at own risk.

Anyone have any luck with this/ age of Gmail accounts?
I just recently started having this issue on a stock GS4A on at&t. Maybe a week ago could not get updates and wrote it off as a busy server then realized this weekend I could not get anything new.
I tried every fix I could find on the forums and even a fix that the 2nd tier Google tech suggested (no different from the forum fixes other than including turning the automatic date/time on and off). Every method was a band-aid at best: one or two apps can come through before I get the 927 error or the DF-BPA-30 error. At least the error codes are consistent...
I honestly think this is related to the age of my account. I have had a Gmail account since 2007 or so when I believe it was still in beta. I am surmising that older accounts are on an older server or something that is having issues. I made two dummy accounts and could download anything I wanted, so there is nothing wrong with my handset or connections. The temporary work-around I am using is adding a secondary gmail account and adding any apps through it, while still using primary for mail, contacts, and calendar. I am not a heavy user, so it works, but I should not have to patch it together like this!
So- anyone who is getting this error; how long have you been a Google user? Anyone else tried "old vs new" for a cause of the error?
When I replied to the 2nd tier tech I told him his method did not work, but asked to look into the account itself. I'll update if I have anything to say.

Ask to get your case transferred to apps division. There I got real help. They are really good. And have helped me a lot.
There are two possible methods to solve error 927 on android:
Method 1:
Go to settings>>”All”>>Select “Google Play Store”
Now Force Stop>>Clear Data>>Clear Cache
Now again try downloading or updating the app
If the above didn’t work, go to settings>>”All”>>Select “Google Play Store”>>Uninstall Updates
Again, from “All”>> Select “Download Manager”>>Clear Data and Cache
Rerun Google Play Store and install/update your app or game
Method 2:

Same problem here
I'm getting a little further, but I too can't log in. I get the email put in and the password, put in just fine, but when it comes to the terms of service and privacy policy screen, where you must select the "I agree" button, it'll spin the progress bar at the top off the screen, to the right, and it sits there FOREVER. It's like it's unable to connect online, but it is online. I tried a different email address, and that doesn't do anything either.
I've uninstalled MicroG, and Vanced apps, cleared the cache, and removed the app data for both apps, then reinstalled both apps from the official Vanced site, using the latest releases of both apps, but nothing works. I've even installed the MicroG first then Vanced, as well as installing Vanced first, then Micro G, but still it won't get past the terms of service and privacy policy screen.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I've been through all that bs more than once. I finally cleared Play Services data, and actually removed my Google acct from the phone, rebooted, signed into microG and Play Store simultaneously, FINALLY got 'er done. It was still better than the headache I've fought whenever I flash the rooted YTV.

I did what you said that you've done before, and it didn't work. It still isn't accepting when I touch the accept button. I even went in and cleared the cache and data of the Google app just in case that could've been the issue, and it still won't "accept."
I also tried logging into the Vanced app and not my gmail account for the phone (only in Vanced), but that didn't work either.
This is frustrating to say the least.

I feel ya! I've broken my share of phones/tablets/screens messing with uncooperative (not incompatible) files, etc. What finally got me logged into microG was REMOVING my GOOGLE ACCOUNT, taking all G-related apps back to factory (do this in airplane mode, and I usually limit background processes to 2, arbitrarily), Of course, YTV and microG are already downloaded, but I don't open them until AFTER "recovery, cache wipe, reboot system. Then, in settings-app info, for BOTH APKs, grant at least the most reasonable permissions, especially for microG. I think it's only contacts and location that they really need initially, but you're probably not in any position to argue. Next, add your Google acct, and while Google's contacting its servers and setting you back up, get over to Vanced, and hope it works. Disable your regular YouTube, BTW, if you haven't (conflicts, or something, IDK).
Have patience, walk away for a bit if you have to, as these builds can be buggy, but remember, there's something like 30,000 different Android devices out there, and the Devs do an awesome job of making the apks even remotely quasi-universal. That's Pimpin', in my book!
For future reference, start hoarding older versions of certain 3rd party apps, as I do with microG, Google Now enablers for my launchers, etc.

Issues with Google account/apps after update to 145 with magisk

Hello!
Just a few days ago the 145 update hit my device. After installing it and reinstalling twrp plus magisk I am experiencing issues with Google News, Gmail and even with account management.
Gmail shows emails, but doesn't display the content, same for Google News stand. If I remove the Google account entirely, and try to readd it, it gets stuck at 'checking info '. This only seemed to happen after the update and then after I installed magisk (with YouTube vanced as a module) and rebooted, now I can't access emails anymore/read news. Funny thing is, even k9 mail doesn't work and shows the exact same Issue as Gmail. In a browser I can easily access Gmail.
Is anyone having similar issues? I had to reset my device two two times already to get it working again, but as soon as I installed magisk (and YouTube vanced) it broke again.
Later I can add a log cat if somebody could use it.
Did you try to reset device or clear cache?

I updated to 145 to sort the "Okay Google" issue out, now I am experiencing lack of mobile data and Assistant is sporadic....are you sure you are getting mobile data? mine seems to work fine on WIFI.
I did reset the device twice and that helped. I am now thinking it may have to do with webview/Chrome, since all these actions that don't work require these apps. I did install bromite together with magisk, so it may have something to do with it. But deleting bromite and deactivating/reactivation chrome doesn't help either. Actually, Chrome starts up but won't load any website.
I may have to reset again and not install bromite and see if that helps.
And yes, the issue persists on mobile data or wifi.

Hi, slightly off topic here, but how did you fix the "Okay Google" issue?
It's greyed out for me and I can't seem to find a solution.
