[Q] Factory Reset/Wipe MP MAN 720 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA,
as I am kind of new to the android system, I would really need some help with an old android tablet of mine. Basically I just want to use it for games and stuff like that, maybe Facebook, nothing too intense.
As I somehow managed to forget my Pattern Lock, I'm not able to access it anymore. Although I searched a couple o forums about a hard reset/wipe/factory reset, nothing helped me yet. Just so you know, every possible button combination I found on this lovely Internet did NOT work for me (maybe I'm just doing something wrong, although I don't think so). Whatever I've tried, it just won't go into the recovery section.
I am talking here about the MPMAN 720 Android Tablet. I believe it came pre-installed with Android 2.0 or 2.2 but I'm not sure. I did not brick the device (if this is the correct designation) nor did I apply any custom ROM's or firmware's.
Full details are listed on the following web page: (I could not post the link, as I am a new member). Please go to google.com -> search for: mpman720 and click the first link(should contain mpmaneurope dot com)
Now, as I somehow have some knowledge about IT, I also was much of an iPod Touch user before, where I somehow came familiar to things like Jailbreaking or "Hacking" the device. So I wondered if there is any possibility to maybe wipe the whole tablet by using the computer, maybe to something I believe is called "adb". Although I have absolutely no idea of using "adb" or how to even start/open that specific command line. Oh, and also, very important, unfortunately USB-Debugging is not enabled (100% sure).
If there is any way you could assist me to wipe that horrible tablet and get back to the factory settings I once had I would be very thankful.
Thank you very much in advance and have a great day!
Cheers,
Richard.

Have you tried to reboot the tablet in recovery mode?? I know that evry android device can go in recovery mode by pressing Volume Up the Center button and the power button... keep holding them untill it turns on and when it does release the power button but NOT the other two.... it will eventualli turn on in recovery and there you will have to move using the volume buttons ( to go up and down) and the power button (to select) go down to wipe data/factort reset, select it, go down and select Yes

Hello,
firstly, thank you for your quick response. Yes, I've tried that, and unfortunately it did not work. I just can't get that sh**** tablet to go into the recovery, no matter what I try. Also, there is an external reset button, which can be pressed using a pen for instance, but that does not do anything. All that the tablet is doing when I press some combinations is either nothing or rebooting. That's all.
Thank you again, hopefully someone can help with an advice.
Cheers,
Richard.

Your welcome.... sorry that i couldn't help you

hard reset doesn't work
Hi, I also have mpman mp720 tablet with android 2.3.3. 720 mhz armv6 processor
Here's my problem:
i've tapped the reboot shortcut from the quickreboot app and then the tablet didn't start ( when it restarts the mpman logo appears then quickly dissappears .
I've tried to do factory reset : power+ volume up but the same , the logo appears and then dissappears , and the screen remains black with the back & menu led remain turned on
Can you please give me somen solutions?

Is the tablet modified ( rooted, custom rom, custom recovery),?

yes the tablet was rooted , but i really don't know what software method i've used( oneclik...something if i remember correctly )
L.E.: also i tried volume up + power + home , released the power and keep the home + volume up more than 30 sec . this time the logo doesn't appear anymore but the led from back and menu remain on . in addition now the screen is full black ( the method tried by me in the first post showed a black screen with a nuance of blue accentuated in the bottom of the screen ( landscape mode with the home button on the right ) )

You just need to hold VOLUME UP button for 10 seconds then you need to press POWER button (but keep pressed VOLUME UP) keep pressed that combination of keys until MPMAN logo shows. Then realise that buttons (don't press any other key) and for 5 seconds you will be in recovery mode.
I tried on mpman mpdc 702 tablet.
I hope i helped and sorry for my language.

[GUIDE] Force boot-loop - Potential recovery mode?

I've been messing around with my tablet since I rooted it today..
I've made a strange discovery - Starting with the device off, hold volume down, press 5 fingers to the touch screen, and power on. Continue to hold vol. down and your 5 fingers on touch screen. Eventually the screen will brighten as though the os has loaded, but instead it continues to boot - loop.
So my thoughts are, is this a possible lead into an alternate form of recovery?
My advance apologies if this turns out to be a useless glitch in sony software, and I started a Dev thread for nothing, but I'm pretty sure we all want the same things here - hopefully someone finds it useful
Does it really recognize your fingers on the screen or is it just holding the volume down button that is doing it?
Later on I discovered you dontt need the fingers at all, just insome practice runs without them I must have gotten too impatient
ADB works while in this forced bootloop state also
Ok so i booted up with the following:
Holding the volume down throughout boot and powering on.
What i found out was that it booted normally, but one difference i found was that in the corner there was "Safe Mode" written.
I shall continue my investigation. Note that this is on a rooted tablet s.
tjis is not a strange idea because at my asus transformer you enter the stock recovery the same way,the defs flash CWM on top of that recover
I tryed this on my Sony Tablet S NON-ROOTED and i got to the bootloop.

I tried that (Power + Volume Down) as well on my Xperia Tablet S and I got to the Safe mode as well, but I don't know what does it do!!
I see all my apps under installed app but not available under the app drawer and the tablet is as if it it's been factory reset. no widgets or short cuts on the desktop and most settings reset to it default values. Finally I can reboot normally to normal mode with all my settings, app and modifications in place.
I wish some developers can exploit this and make use of it for future development.

Android's Safe Mode allows a tablet or telephone to boot and minimally load the Android operating system without starting any third-party applications, which is useful for trouble shooting or uninstalling misbehaving applications. Android's Safe Mode is similar to Safe Mode in Microsoft Windows.

Accessing the tablet's Safe Mode via the POWER and VOL- buttons works everytime. Similar to accessing the tablet's Recovery Mode, you must continuously press the VOL- button and momentarily press the POWER button to access Safe Mode.

lol guys, why did you necro this thread?
It was only really relevant back in February when we were desperately trying to find a why that might help us find a way to root the Sony Tablet S.
Mission accomplished :good: (by other means that is.. this ended up being quite the dead-end/after repeat attempts I was even getting hit and miss of either nothing would happen or safe mode)
Logcat
Here's the logcat i took from it being in safe mode.....maybe it's of some use to someone somewhere...somehow...

Just bumped this but all well.
I am talking to Sony about the bootloader but they really don't want too just like a completely different company from Sony mobile which does not allow development.

Use init.d to swap internal = sd card ? Is this possible ?
My tablet is soft-bricked, can go to recovery but can't read system and sd card.
But already install init.d before.
I saw someone has the script that can swap internal memory by sd card.
Is it possible that we use that script to replace completely system by sd card?
So that we can run android on sd card ???

GS2 wont boot passed recovery

Hi guys,
Late last year i sold my GS2 to a guy at work. Rooted and with a custom ROM installed (Cognition V1.5.1 - yes i know its old but its not my phone )
I've attempted to install RC1 for CM9 this morning however, I'm falling at the first hurdle. I've booted into Clockwork recovery (4.0.0.2). The menu buttons work fine i.e, up/down and power as enter but when i select anything it goes to a black screen with the ROM Manager logo on it (the gog and the hat) - but no options.
Do i need to install a newer version of Clockwork on the device? If i do whats the best way to do it? Do i use ROM Manager to update it as i cant access any of the menus in recovery (other than the top menu)
I've not seen this problem before as normally people are kept in boot loops or cant get passed a splash screen.
EDIT - i've just managed to get the phone to boot and its now running as normal. I'm just concerned that if i go back into recovery i might not get it back up again.
Many thanks

You're pressing the wrong button lol... use the power button to confirm and the volume buttons to move up and down. The home button does nothing.

[Q] Pattern locked with out Data connection

Hi All,
I have a Zopo ZP900. Unfortunately, My kid tried too many pattern attempts, WITH OUT a data connection.
I tried lot of ways to get the phone unlocked but Could not do it.
Can any one help me out to get rid of this? My phone debug mode itself is not turned on...
Thanks a lot...
With regards
Saravanakumar S A
If u dont have umportant data on it u can do a full wipe using the stock recovery
1 close the phone
2 press vol up + power or home + power or vol up +home + power to enter the recovery
3 using the vol buttons to choose and home key to select , select wipe data/system format and choose yes
4 reboot and you will found that the lock vanished but every thing is wiped (this won't affect the sd card only the system memory

When I try, I am getting only the following screen.
Factory mode
Full test
Item test
Test report
Clear eMMC
Version
Reboot
I could able to move the cursor up or down. But not ablke to choose anything else. Only option to get out of this to remove the battery.
Some time, I get an Android Icon, lying down and a red triange from its body!

Dear Sammyroid,
But even in that I have a problem. I could not get into that Factory mode. This ZP900 had only 3 physical buttons. Nothing works so that I can choose the option. I am able to only move up and down using volume control. The home and power button are not working.

I also have Exactly the same problem....(i dont even know what this tablet's model is...it just shows up in the Android Market as J-Q8B)
1) It only has two physical buttons (Power on/off button and Volume key up/down) so there is NO "home" button I can press
2) It also doesn't have any "reset" hole I can poke into and get it to reset or something
3) Cant remove the battery also coz it doesnt have any screws I can open up to take out the battery
:,-( I am screwed....I think I just found myself a "new door-stopper" and/or paper weight.
Is there some other way around this?
I too faced this problem on my karbonn a9+ .... I gave to service centre and they repaired and gave back in 5 days :-/

I know, I know that this question has been always on the forums but mine is different. It really won't open!
Tried the hard reset thing, nope it doesn't work at any combo.
Flashtool? Nope it won't work. PC never detected it. Pressing the volume up / down button won't work so is the camera and the power before plugging, during, and after the USB.
I don't know what else to do!! :

tried flashtool but i can't connect the phone. i'm in the part where you have to press the back button (volume - or +) when connecting it.
Dont try flash, just turn on, eg hatd reset (volume up+power on/off button) and let it connected, dont try go to cwm. Just let it lets say boot, I know, screem is dark but after while youll see in flashtool main window that phone is detected, it took me one or two mins to get it. Then you can try fastboot and flash correct kernel. And try to remove the SIM card or insert the old one.

hard reset combos: power + vol up / power + vol down / vol up + vol down / power + vol up + vol down. I've tried them all. not a newbie here so don't treat me like one please
rom + kernel = pure blood sola v2. i don't think it's the rom's fault tho since my sister has the same rom and her's works like a charm. the rom has been in the phone for more than 2 months without any problems (my phone's). files are accessible and photos are transferable.
How did the problem arise? everything was working great till i changed the sim card. then poof! it won't work anymore. to be honest it wasn't my phone. i'm just trying to fix it
not turning on. no power. no backlights meaning its not the display problem. when you plug it in via usb / wall charger there's a red LED but after an hour it disappears.
really need your help guys
could work
I have a Xperia U and triying to port JB to it I briked two or three times.
I hold power botom and it vibrate and doesnt happen anything ok.?¿
The possible solution could be this(for my works)
Charge the phone like 1 hour for my doesnt charge with the animation but its for security.
With the nest steps you are going to lose all CWM and tweaks and apks but personal data still there.
You have two options:
Flash a new rom with flashtool, but when you pluged with volum - you hold it for allmost all process becose for my i conect to PC and its goes quikly so i cant do annything.
If the phone is not recognised by Flashtool:
You have to repair it with PC Companion or Bridge for Mac, and also the same hold volum - almost all process.
For my it works, tell my if for you works:cyclops::cyclops::cyclops:

I just dealt with the vol up issue. For me the foam pad by the vol up had broken free. The only way to fix this is to replicate the foam pad width, and apply enough pressure to the side of the vol up and down part for button functionality. Its a delicate situation if you go the self repair method. The flex cable replacement method is a limited option due to the limited amount of flex cables (its called the optical enhancement flex cable or something like that). The only other option is a device replacement, followed by a motherboard swap so you keep your old system.

In my case it's not a foam pad / pressure problem. As I said I already replaced the button part (which comes with the camera (5 bucks in hong-kong)), and yes it wasn't easy to make the replacement. But the problem continued. The strange thing is that I was able to use the vol-up button after clicking a thousand times on vol-up&down. In that case the vol-up button was working fine for a few minutes only. But today even after clicking during half an hour, nothing. It looks like a capacitor problem on the motherboard.
I was hoping for a program able to force the phone to boot in recovery, even thinking it's not possible (we need to choose a menu option to let a program comunicates with the phone).
I think I'm fuc... this time. Moto no more for sure.

Clearly you can't. I suggest you reread everything again.
He's stuck in the bootloader, way before the ROM even thinks of loading. What good is an app then?
I'm back in my rom.
After clicking again like crazy on vol-up&down, vol-up button has responded for a few minutes, just 2 or 3 minutes, but it was sufficient to enter recovery via bootloader. ouff !
I'm not going to modify my rom anymore, too dangerous.
Someone knows an app able to modify the calling volume ? It's ok for now but one day I will click vol-down during a call and ... no way to vol-up ! hahaha, crapy motorola (which not allows international warranty) !
thanks
Your story serves as a warning to me.
Never modify the button with Motorola at the bootloader level, too risky. (android level like inside system\ is OK).
To summarize problem that thread-opener had:
- He's stuck at bootloader (screen says unlocked, fastboot, or RDS, recovery, etc...etc)
- can cycle through fastboot, rds, recovery with Vol-down.
- but cannot select (confirm selection) with Volume-up (button software reassigned, or button hardware contact broken, or etc..etc)
====>>> dead-end to way out ! No download mode.
