Note 3 wont send metadata from streaming apps like pandora AKA AVRCP 1.3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

To all the outstanding devs that work on the Sprint Note 3, could you please take a look at why the Note 3 does not send metadata through bluetooth for streaming apps such as pandora, tune in radio, spotify etc but will do it with no problem for the stock Music app, google play music and even the gallery app when playing a video? Heres some links with more details of the issue. NOTE: I just ODIN back to full stock MJ4 to confirm the problem is not related to ROMS / rooting, and issue still persist in full stock.

3rd link has the best info about were the problem is coming from. The developer for that app had to do a hack for the metadata to send: “Previous release of XiiaLive we decided to disable the Bluetooth AVRCP metadata "HACK" for Android versions 4.3 and greater. The reason was that since Android 4.3 Android OS made some APIs available to send metadata over Bluetooth using a legit API. However, it seems that some devices fail to properly support the new APIs and for that reason we have re-enabled the "HACK" on the latest release.”
I installed the app version the dev posted there and the app does send the metadata! This confirms theres something wrong with the software on the Note 3, and it looks like its happening on all the variants (see here and here).
It would be sooo awesome if some one is able to fix this!! I cant believe Samsung botched this!!!! I have a big urge to get a Nexus 5...

By the way, it would be great if someone could confirm or deny having this issue. I have a Scion FRS and the wife a Mazda CX5 and this happens on both vehicles, but her iphone 5 works just fine and also Galaxy tab 10.1 sends metadata perfectly.
Here is a pic of what I mean the phone is not doing properly:

It is a small thing but it annoys me to lol. It makes me happy to see the information on the screen rather then the having to switch to my phone to see what will be next. I can switch songs without having to touch my phone directly from the CD track changer. That is the only reason I would like to have it fixed.

'14 mazda6gt metadata shows fine using pandora over bt on a note 2 AND note 3. This is the only thing that works well with the radio. I think its designed specifically for the note. The note goes into accessory mode and i dont even get any ads.

That isn't the same thing though. It is connecting to the Pandora app built in.
A shame, since most people aren't going to have this functionality.

Wow, just wanted to say it's such a relief to find this thread and THANK YOU for creating it. This issue really is such a pain in the ass. I have a Verizon Note 3 and also drive a 2014 CX-5 and can only reliably display metadata with Play Music or the Samsung Music app. (I don't use Pandora or any streaming music services.) I even reached out to the developers of Poweramp and Shuttle and both insisted that the issue like somewhere in the Samsung ROM. I had no issues using any music app with my previous Moto and Samsung phones (GNex). At this point, sadly, I'm resigned to using Play Music. Not bad but not ideal.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming

I picked up my Note the other day and I have come across an interesting situation.
My Mazda3 has built in Bluetooth and I can stream to it no problem. When I did so on my old Infuse, the display on my car only ever said BT, no track number or play timer. Now with the Note, there are areas that show the track and play time. When I play anything with the Samsung music app, the track number increments properly, but the play time stays at 0:00. With Google Music, any track I play shows 600 for track number and the play time stays at 0:00.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
EDIT: I should probably mention that for now I'm on stock Gingerbread.
Yea, it's just the way the software works with a2dp from what I understand. Every music app will be a bit different if they support the feature at all.
But then why didn't the Infuse have the same behavior?

Infiniti G37xS
I'm encountering issues. On the stock Note GB ROM, mp3 tag data was showing up in the display of my factory head unit on my Infiniti G37xS.
After applying the ICS leak, this functionality no longer works. This also worked with my Skyrocket and the stock ROM. In all cases, I was using the default "Music Player" application.
Does anyone know of any market players that support tag (or even album art) over bluetooth?
Thanks,
-MK

Sounds like some of the functionality isn't complete or was left out of the ICS leak. Could be either the BT driver or the Music app. Let's hope it gets better with future leaks or official.
I would like to know if there are any apps that support full track info.

I just sent an email to the developer of PowerAmp on this exact subject. I have a Lexus that works just fine with my Son's 4S - displays everything on the screen. So it must be doable and its good to hear that at least GB Note has it somewhat working - so I think it is up to the app developers to get there code tweaked to support it.

So there are some differences in ICS versus Gingerbread which give me some hope.
So now on ICS using the same version of Google Play Music Instead of getting the 600 as the track number and 000 as the play time, i just get dashes. But on ICS I actually get the rest of the track info, like artist, song and album. So two steps forward, one step back.
I have included some photos
ICS likes to pause music for a split second while the camera snaps a photo, so BT shows as paused and continues showing that even after playback has resumed. So in the photo you can't actually see the dashes I described.

HBO GO on ICS - workaround (pix & app included)

Hello all
So as someone you might know HBO GO doesn't works on ICS (or atleast its not working officially).
Now before you proceed HBO GO is available to those who have subscription on their tv providers.
There is a workaround for this issue. The app works great, though the quality of the movies/series there is not HQ. I am comparing the quality to my Netflix app where I get pretty high quality movies. The Iron Man photos are from the NetFlix app.
Look below for the app, if you cannot get it from the market.
The workaround:
1. Install the HBO GO on your device.
2. open the app and you will see this message pops up HBO GO is not supported on this device

}
3. Do not hit close. next from the multitask icon on the bottom of the screen, click it to transfer to another opened app. remember do not hit the close button.
4. Now that you are in the other app, hit the Home button wait 1-2 sec and then from the multitasking or the app icon, open HBO GO again. wait something like 5 seconds and the app should be open. you then login and viola you can watch HBO GO on the Prime.
I did it on the prime, but i guess you can do it on any ICS device out there.
Do notice that every time you will exit HBO GO you will need to repeat these steps.
I still didn't hook the prime to by tv to see the overall quality of the app performance while connected to a TV (will do it today later on).
To prove that it actually works here are some screen i took with the app on
Enjoy, let me know if it worked for you

Another workaround is to simply play it through the browser. Go to hbogo.com and click on "Request Desktop Site," it'll reload and let you play videos just like it was your computer, hi-def and everything.
I use the browser method also and it works great wish the app worked though

Great workaround! Thanks!!! I've been using the web browser but this (once you're in) is much easier to navigate than the site. The quality isn't quite as nice but very watchable. Tried Real Time with Bill Maher (which is an HD show) and the quality was just fine.
Unfortunately while I can get in and browse around when I try and play a movie it just returns back to the home screen of the app. Fortunately xfinity finally released a streaming app for Android that I think gives you most of the same content

Hey all..
Thanks to this thread I was able to mod the app so this method shouldn't be needed.
See this thread for details.
Had I not saw this thread I wouldn't have ever thought of trying the mod so thank you.
Another work around would be installing the xfinity player app at playstore. Since its now compatible you can access your HBO and all other services you are signed up on.

XBMC beta

Pardon the large pics, posting this via Tapatalk...
First, grab the apk from here:

Apk: http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/1ACRSW7E/
XDA general thread, has updated build (see post 2)- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772433
I know it is a nexus q blog post, but it works... To test, I switched my flyer from onexxl (ICS port) to honeycomb (Senseless). Onexxl was a bit too laggy for xbmc.... Side note: Damn xbmc is a memory hog.

A couple bugs. Xbmc does not yet use the native device sound profile, so be sure to volume up before opening the app.
I don't know if this is an app issue or rom issue, but switching away from xbmc and back (like to increase system volume) will crash it.
Audio... 5.1 does not work. Either you will need to transcode your videos to a mobile profile or some other method. 2.0 is iffy. It could just be how my vids are transcoded, idk. Mileage may vary.
The default skin works as a touch interface, though I would recommend installing one that is a bit more touch friendly. It comes with a second skin is one that is touch friendly. Fyi, you can install skins in app just like with xbmc on other platforms.
Other than that, it works just as xbmc should... With no need for a server program. It picked up both the smb and upnp shares on my media server.
Haven't tested plugins yet, but will soon.
Addons/plugins install fine

this is a real nice find. started playing with it yesterday. Once you get the hang of how to add all the plug ins it has allot of potential. Using the 1 channel plug in for example I was able to get to new tv shows with little effort. Audio on streams is choppy though, I have not attempted to connect to tv through MHL as of yet. If you are a sports fan the first row sports plug in is nice. It is a real resource hog when running, but to be honest you are not multitasking when using it. There is a thread for this in the android general section where the op has posted a more recent compiled version. Hope this continues to move forward, for those who like to stream this is a great app.

Definitely. The fact that it doesn't require external server software *cough*Plex*cough* is what seals it. My media is on a FreeNAS/NAS4free server, which Plex server doesn't support.
Installing add-ons is easy enough.
If installing via an external repo (ex. BlueCop), download via the tablets browser. Open XBMC, Settings > Addons > Install From Zip. Choose external storage, locate the repo zip, it installs.
From there, choose Get Add-Ons, find the category and click away....
I'll add the link to the General thread to the OP in a moment, thanks for the heads up

Yeah, I've had a problem with any movie on my server... Not just xbmc but any network streaming app (ex. UPnPlay)
All my vids are 5.1 or 7.1 (except for the odd tv show that came native 2.0)
No movie sound works proper for me... I have to wait for the weather to cool off some so I can fire up my gaming rig and re-transcode some test videos. Having it top 90* ambient in my home office with no computer on makes for one unhappy computer when it is. Office is a windowless room, so....

It could use a bit of cleaning up as it was originally designed for the ipad resolution. I have the graphic design skills of a rock, but can at least rework the skin to be a bit more friendly on our resolution. Maybe add a bit of Holo to it?

ok,
it works quite well on JellyBean, when first it has scanned all language files and crashed 2-3 times due to memory issues getting those files unpacked and ready. but then it works quite well from here.
very good replacement for flashbased players which we probably wont see on jellybean for much longer.
edit:
here is another one, and seems better and more stable. although this will never get h/w acceleration since its for xios DS player it works great.

correct, the new builds are great and in my _flyer_ case, its important since im unable to get h/w decoding like many other cm10 builds. so xbmc is a great alternative with support for many media functions.
lets just agree that native ota updates should be fine
This is a nice thread with good links. I'll follow this as I have an older XBMC on my Maxx that works fine. I've tested it on GB and Honeycomb devices and it wont start. I'm about to get a TF201 and plan to flash JB so this thread could prove very helpful.

[MOD][XPOSED] SpotifyAVRCP - Bluetooth track info from Spotify

SpotifyAVRCP:
Spotify doesn't send track information via bluetooth, in the past there have been patched versions of Spotify floating around to add media metadata over bluetooth. This is an xposed module that does the same thing, it hooks into an internal track change function and broadcasts a standard android media intent.
The Spotify APK is run through proguard so method names are likely to change - which means this may not work with all versions and future updates could break it - in which case I will try and fix asap and upload a new version.
Requirements:
1) Have Xposed Framework Installed
Instructions to install SpotifyAVRCP:
1) Download & Install SpotifyAVRCP from bintray or in the Xposed Installer Downloads section
2) Enable SpotifyAVRCP in Xposed Installer
3) Restart device
4) Play Music
Changelog
Latest: 1.0.0 Beta - 30/11/13 (Download)
Initial Release
Support for Spotify Version 0.7.3.636
Notes
It seems that this mod might only be useful for bluetooth info on android 4.2.x and below. 4.3 introduces AVRCP support and should handle things properly. However this mod might still be useful if you have other legacy applications which rely on the old broadcasts to get track information - this seems to be the case for both Pebble and Gear smartwatches.
If you're reporting problems, please include the Device, OS Version and end device you're trying to get to work.

So just further feedback:
When I said it was working a treat, I only tested it on my Galaxy Gear (which displays Media Information) in the media control centre.
I tried it in my Toyota Altara S (2012) and the media head displays

Is there a media player which does work in your Toyota? If so, I can grab it and check which intents its sending. At the moment I'm sending the default android "com.android.music.metachanged" intent which, as far as I understand it, is what the os reads to generate the avrcp data.

Yes, the default android music player. I'm running the stock Samsung TouchWiz ROM for Note 3 n9005:
Music 6.0.1
I've also attached the APK made from a TitaniumBackup View attachment com.sec.android.app.music-58e673dbcbf733750a580d16571af5d4.apk
I'll try re coupling the devices again in the meantime

Out of curiosity does it support album art in the car? Or just to the gear?

Yes, when using the default music app:
I am able to see the album art and all tag information on both the Car and on the Galaxy Gear. (Edit: Give me 2 seconds to run out and double check)
I am only able to see tag information in the Car. The Gear however displays album art and tag information.
Annoyingly, the car will always autostart the Default Music app over Spotify.... it brings annoyance to no end...
There is one unrelated caveat, which is probably more related to the car's shortcomings is the lack of Unicode-8 for foreign characters. The Gear does not have this issue.

You're on an odexed rom, can you grab the Music.odex from the app directory on your phone as well?
Actually nevermind - I can't deodex it without grabbing the whole rom, what build are you running, ill download a deodexed copy of your rom and grab the apk.
As requested:
View attachment com.sec.android.app.music-5fa6d510e8cc2d8c98a6c1947cf90481.odex.gz
EDIT: I'm running a completely stock Samsung Note 3 Rom. I've only rooted it, but have never flashed any recovery/rom.

Not working for me either using Nexus 4 with 4.4. As soon as my device connects is says "Nexus 4" and after that it's just empty. If I launch Google Play music it is sending metadata perfectly and if I switch to Spotify after that Spotify is also sending it perfectly. I had this exact behaciour before installing your module or Metafy or the modified Spotify app.
I also tried disabling Google Play music but that doesnt seem to have any effect except for that I cannot use mentioned workaround anymore. If theres anything I can do to help please let me knoe.

So launching google play music means that spotify metadata comes through properly? Can you try and force stop google play music once the spotify metadata is working and see if it continues to work?

Sure. To clarify: Launch spotify -> play song -> no metadata -> launch gplay music -> start playing a song (will pause spotify) -> metadata of that song is dislayed -> switch back to spotify, unpause -> gplay music pauses -> metadata displayed is now the spotify song and will update accordingly when the song changes
Problem is that you need to do this trick again anytime you lose bluetooth connection.
-------------------------------
Tested it, still works after force closing play music and even deactivating it. It seems to me as if Google Play music initializes something that is necessary for metadata transfer.

Ok, thats super strange but at least it gives us something to work with. To clarify, what the xposed mod currently does is inject the metachanged intent so that a 'standard' intent shares the info systemwide - which seems to trigger things like smartwatches getting their metadata. I didn't realise the previous patches didn't quite achieve what it was described as.
I've just dredged through the spotify apk and as far as I can tell it initialises everything as it should. Admittedly the android docs on how this stuff is meant to work is rather vague.
Could you test a couple more scenarios for me?
What happens if you just open google play music but don't start playing - does Spotify still send the correct metadata then?
What about other media players, I think PowerAmp supports AVRCP these days, could you test it and see how the behaviour compares to Spotify / Google Play Music?

Just having Google Play Music open or starting it doesnt do anything. I need to start playing a song with it for any metdata transfer to work.
On PowerAmp I have exactly the same behaviour. Doesnt send anything until I play sth in Play music. I even switched some of the settings in the bluetooth section but couldnt get it to work on its own.
Surely the developers of popular music apps who have AVRCP functionality must know about this problem, in he other thread quite a few other people reported the same problematic I have.

One would assume so, I'll see what I can dig out of the google play music apk but so far its not obvious what might be causing the problem.

I've been trying to get this fixed for a while now. I even made a Tasker profile that would automate the play music trick but that didnt work all too well either.
If you saw the metafy app in the other thread, that doesnt work either for me, the problem seems to be sending metadata via bluetooth, completely unrelated to spotify. If you have anything you want to have tested that could help solving this please dont hesitate to ask me.
Don't work on 4.3 in my S4 neither (stock with root only)

Youtube performance woes

Hey guys, picked up the V10 from T-Mobile a few days ago. Today I noticed that 1080p videos on YouTube constantly buffer, making them unwatchable. I ran a few speed tests, and am getting 80+mbps, so it shouldn't be bandwidth.
Edit: was trying to look through suggested threads and accidentally hit enter, which posted thread. Please close.
So, this isn't an issue?

It is absolutely an issue, but there we're other threads that might relate. It seems I'm the only one reporting an issue plaing 1080p Youtube videos however. Everyone else is reporting problems with 1440p, which I am also having trouble with.
So far I'm thinking it could be the youtube app, as the buffering issues don't persist if I load the videos through Youtube website via chrome.

I've had similar issues. Nothing plays at 60fps , the option was never available with youtube on this particular phone. If i try in desktop mode on Chrome it'll completely crash Chrome every time. Also 1440p continues to freeze the video on about 85%-90% of videos with the 1440p option. Overall lackluster video playback performance with many full hd videos online in comparison to several other similar phones. Not sure if a software fix will be sent any time soon to fix the problem. Disappointing glitch to have on such a neat phone.
I had the same problem until I uninstalled youtube updates, then it played fine. I was going to leave the older version un updated due to the smooth playback. But I realized my phone updated the youtube app on its own. Now it plays fine.

I saw this earlier and hadn't tried yet. If it worked for another it might just work and imply that youtube is at fault. Good find, trying now!
I thought it worked on one video I tried. It was smoother and played all the way through after I uninstalled updates from youtube app info.
But this vid still locks up on me at around 1:00min

I also downloaded and installed OGyoutube (which is an older modded youtube with option to download and convert to mp3, search Google for official downloads) which has an option to download in 2k. After downloading the 240mb file, I played it in the LG default video player and it was so smooth and even smoother than streaming 1080p video from youtube, so it has to be the app because the phone can handle the file no problem. Kinda blows but it is what it is..
Ya i tried uninstalling the update. Even wiped app data and rebooted. Still locks up same spot
Man am I glad I found this tread! I was having the same issue with You Tube buffering and it has been driving me insane!!! I was excited that I got gigabit internet so I wouldn't have any buffering, but I was wrong. I can't get any video to play without constant buffering (I was getting 200+mb down on wifi at the time). Uninstalling the updates fixed the issues I was having. I am still having issues with 1440 playback however, which is disappointing.
hey i'm having similar issues, tried to uninstall update, tried ogyoutube, still buffers anything 1080p and above. This only happens when im on my data, (t-mo 90+mb down) However, when im at home connected to my 50mb comcast wifi, no buffering even on 1440p. Any ideas?

I don't know. The last LG phone I had was the Nexus 5.

Lg is usually one of the first manufacturers to update their phones to the newest os. The carrier versions usually lag behind the unlocked models
Even using twitch app if someone has live feed at higher quality than 720p. The feed buffers like on youtube...... also uninstalling updates on YouTube does not work it still has the same problem with 1080p videos & 1440p videos

Mine works fine. I guess you are speaking for yourself.
Actually im not ...my girl has this same phone and has the same issue.....granted she could care less about watching it in hd streaming period...but with speeds like this....there should be no such thing as buffering here unless the Site or the app has problems and we know that isn't true if I can do it from a PC or from a PlayStation 4 console or tablet or Xbox one console

Nope. You're definitely not the only one having issues with youtube on this phone. The highest resolution settings on youtube seem to give this phone problems. 1080p has hiccups as though it's battling to play the video smooth. 1440p works maybe 10% to 15% of the time without freezing the vid ,while audio continues?? Weird. It just does not stream video as well as other smartphones with similar specs. It's very strange. Hopefully this future "software update" fixes this video stream issue. Id love my silky smooth video playback like I had on my G2
