[MOD][XPOSED][4.0+] RootCloak - Completely Hide Root from Specific Apps [2014-01-14] - Xposed Framework Modules

What does this module do?
Some apps, such as finance/banking, enterprise, or audio/video apps will not run if your phone is rooted. This module allows you to run apps that detect root without disabling root. You select from a list of your installed apps (or add a custom entry), and using a variety of methods, it will completely and transparently hide the signs of root from that app.
Get Started Here
If you have Xposed already installed, you can simply install RootCloak from the Xposed modules repo.
More detail instructions for how to use RootCloak are available here: https://github.com/devadvance/rootcloak/wiki/How-to-use-RootCloak
RootCloak is available on the Xposed Modules Repo here: http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.devadvance.rootcloak2

I exported the module with just the minSdkVersion changed to 10 (2.3.3). I don't have a 2.3.3 device available, so I won't upload it to the repo yet.
If you have a 2.3.3 device, would you mind testing it?

Do you plan to share the source codes? I would like to customize the module to the Polish programs. I did a similar program but did not have time to develop it.

Did you add the application in RootCloak settings, and then force close it (if it was already running)?
If it still doesn't work, please send me a PM about, that way I can give you an email to send the APK to.

I haven't decided about releasing the source code yet. That might make it easier for companies to bypass the module.

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone!
I'm working on analyzing in analyzing the various apps to see how they detect root. There are two issues:
1) The TV apps require login before they perform root checking
2) Many of the apps that don't work most likely use the NDK (native libraries, not Java code) to check for root. This makes it extremely difficult/impossible to handle.

Does NOT work with ISIS Wallet (T-Mobile).
When you launch ISIS, it requests root, then just shows a blank purple screen followed by a blank black screen and finally force-closes.
If you want to know how to support ISIS, talk to joderme, he has written a working ISIS root bypass mod for ISIS 2.0:

Hello,
Citrix Worx detects root. I think it's nearly like Good...

i've read somewhere that Citrix Works detects Busybox and all the simlinks pointing to it.
Does your apllication hide it ?

It hides "which" and "busybox", but not all of the symlinks. However, I'll take a look at the Citrix app to see if does that. The problem is that busybox being installed doesn't necessarily indicate a device is rooted.

How does an app detect root access using the NDK? Google search isn't returning any answers.

XPrivacy
After weeks of research, development and testing I proudly present the ultimate, yet easy to use, privacy manager: XPrivacy.
XPrivacy can prevent applications from leaking privacy sensitive data. XPrivacy can restrict the categories of data an application can access. This is done by feeding an application with no or fake data. There are several data categories which can be restricted, for example contacts or location. For example, if you restrict access to contacts for an application, this will result in sending an empty contact list to the application. Similarly, restricting an application's access to your location will result in a set location being sent to the application.
You can use the successor XPrivacyLua on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and later.
Features
Simple to use
No need to patch anything (no source, no smali or anything else)
For any (stock) variant of Android version 4.0.3 - 6.0.1 (ICS, JellyBean, Lollipop, Marshmallow)
Newly installed applications are restricted by default
Displays data actually used by an application
Option to restrict on demand
Free and open source
Free from advertisements

You can also use the XPrivacy Installer as an aid to install XPrivacy.
This forum is for questions only. See here for bug reports and feature requests.
Please post messages related to privacy only.
XPrivacy is not intended to make other application do things they are not supposed to do.
There is only support for the latest official XPrivacy version.
XPrivacy was a lot of work, so please support this project
If you want to donate, see here for all options.
Use at your own risk !
The latest version from a while ago still works properly up to Android 6 Marshmallow, if Xposed works properly on your device
(you can ignore any internal error report of XPrivacy, since these are known to be harmless)

Im using this since version 0.3 and think it is really a great Mod!
Thank you very much for your hard work!
I'd really like to contribute, but since I'm pretty limited in terms of coding the only thing I can offer is to translate Xprivacy to German if you like.
I already got some experience in app translating (though it has been some time since then), so just PM me, if you want me to translate it

So If I'm on a sense based 4.2.2 rom I also need to install the CM 4.2 fix? (just installed the latest version of Xprivacy .11)
the app has improved greatly, its very usable now.
some suggestions/details:
app/usability:
1. the app is usable when it is not enabled, there should be a check on app launch if it is enabled in xposed.
2. some sort of loading indicator instead of just directly jumping into the batch edit category after a wait.
3. search for apps.
4. app filtering
2,3,4 are already implemented in xposed app settings, perhaps you could look at that code.
ui stuff:
1. all the activities except the main one should have menu items and the navigation action http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/actionbar.html#Home
2. the blocked apps/ apps with the particular permission should be sorted above the rest.
i'd say blocked apps->apps with permission but not blocked-> rest of them
3. scroll bar in batch edit
4. action bar spinners or a viewpager like the xposed app separating the batch edit and the list of all apps. (AB spinners would save space though)
these are suggestions, i love the app as it is,

First the most obvious: did you reboot? did you enable XPrivacy in the Xposed installer?
Which ROM do you use?
Do you see orange triangles if you start XPrivacy and browse apps?

Yes, I rebooted twice. I'm on TrickDroid 4.2.2 (sense based) on the HTC One. I do see the orange triangle on some apps when I open up Xprivacy but not on all (going into the different categories)
a have a request. The application is really great, but I would much rather like to get notification(and then I can open XPrivacy by just clicking on it) when new application is installed instead of just popping up. I hope you understand me

If you see orange triangles XPrivacy is in any case working.
Maybe your settings layout is different, so that XPrivacy cannot hook into it.
This is not a big problem, because you can access all settings from the app too.
You can do me a pleasure by sending a logcat, starting from the moment your device boots, so I may be able to figure out why this (not) happens.

PeerBlock For Android lets you control who your phone 'talks to' on the Internet.
By selecting appropriate lists of 'known bad' computers, you can block communication with advertising or spyware oriented servers,
computers monitoring your p2p activities, computers which have been 'hacked', even entire countries!
They can't get in to your phone, and your phone won't try to send them anything either.
And best of all, it's free!
Keep in mind that I'm not a member of the PeerBlock team, I just wanted PeerBlock for phone
You're able to grab the lists from iblocklist.com so you can start blocking those evil hosts
To add lists to PeerBlock create a new directory in the root of the sdcard (not external sdcard)
Called 'PeerBlockLists' here should be all the text files
Everytime you added a new/updated list to your PeerBlockLists please press the 'Rebuild cache blocklist' and reboot so that new hosts can be blocked

I've only tested my app at the Galaxy S4 since that's the only device I own

Also don't forget to enable PeerBlock in the XPosed Installer and reboot

Thanks! The thing with JB 4.1.2, is that your module cannot be installed at all.
When trying to install, it says "error while analyzing the package" or similar...
I don't know ANYTHING to java or programming on Android, so I don't know for sure, but it looks like you declared the app as compatible only with 4.2.2, or it uses libraries exclusive to 4.2.2 or something like that...
Since my ROM is unrooted (company policy), I cannot use any of "ad blocking" apps like adaway which require root in order to write the hosts file...
But my ROM has Xposed cooked in it... so I am very excited by your module!!!!
Thanks! Waiting for it!!!

Thanks! The thing with JB 4.1.2, is that your module cannot be installed at all.
When trying to install, it says "error while analyzing the package" or similar...

Sended you a PM with version 1.02, hopefully this works for Android 4.1.2
When I'll get a response that it is working I'll share it with others
Version 1.02 is up, Havefun 4.1.2 users
For people who already have 1.01 installed, please go to the sdcard and remove PeerBlock.dbx
U might will see strange chinese characters orsomething if u used it from version 1.0 or 1.01
Need to find a better way to store information, can't use SQL. SharedPerferences appearently those don't work for some reason in XPosed or I'm just using it wrong lol

Hey bro where is that root you promised your friends were dropping? O wait you deleted your XDA account? Don't step into the fire if you can't take the heat.
This application may not be redistributed, rehosted, repackages, added to your "elite" h4x0r script. Dude it's an app, it doesnt need a script front end.

FAQ:
What is bruteforce mode?
We need to know the right location to "attack", we hardcode it for models/firmwares we have encountered. When Stump hits a device it does not "know" it can bruteforce the location. This can take upwards of 2 hours, but once down (if the phone has an internet connect) it will report it to us, and future builds can include the location.
It says my device is not supported, what do I do?
Let us know what device and firmware it is running as a reply to this thread, and we will try to add it.
Can I unroot, then reroot with Stump?
Sorta, try and if it fails then you will need to restore stock firmware to regain root.
What Superuser app should I use?
The instructions say SuperSU, so probably SuperSU?
What phones does is work on?
Most LGs from mid 2012 to at least mid 2014
Will it work on Moto G (XT1028) by bruteforce??
See above

Ty kindly sir!
Woot!
It's up guys!
Hats off to the team here, we went from an exploit concept to a fully functional root in under 3 days.
Great job!
Special thanks again to @justinswidebody for sending me a Sprint G3 so we could get this ball rolling.
I should also add that this application is *ONLY* compatible with phones listed in the spreadsheet linked to in the OP.
If you try this on anything other than what's listed, it will NOT work.
Also, if you unroot after rooting, you will need to flash your phone back to 100% stock in order to re-root. This is by design currently.
This root only works on unmodified phones.
ioroot and purpledrake is kewler!
jk.. stump is the best LG root so far! has potential to support lots of devices.

Question.. Why do we need to uninstall supersu after opening it?
Thank you very much! Just ran on my Sprint LG G3 (ZV4 software) "grind" instantly took then I manually rebooted. It rebooted quickly and then showed lockscreen for a second then rebooted again on its own. 2nd reboot stayed up for me to install SuperSU from market - updated binary through "normal" method and it stuck. Root is fully functional and I appreciate your efforts!

Will this wipe the current ROM back to new installation? I've used WinDroid a few months ago to root my Moto X Style (Pure) and I recall it wiping my ROM to a fresh installation. Just asking because it took me a while to install all of the current Apps and Kodi add-ons.
My main reason for wanting to root is to sideload Greenify and AdAway so that Nvidia TV will run more smoothly. Any ideas?

Yes, unlocking the bootloader, which is required to root, will wipe the ROM.

Is it not just like a factory reset, it will erase all your data so it will be like starting from new again but with a unlocked bootloader.

That's odd. Sometimes when multiple instances of ADB are running the toolkit has a hard time recognizing devices. Go into Task Manager and end any adb.exe or fastboot.exe processes you see running then see if the toolkit will recognize your device.

[GUIDE] How to Pass SafetyNet on Xiaomi.eu

After you root Xiaomi.EU on our Poco X3, ctsProfile check from our beloved Google friends get "False" status.
How to solve? Not hard at all.
1) Install MagiskHide Props Config module from Magisk repository
2) Install Busybox from Magisk repository
3) Install Termux from Google Play Store
4) Reboot
5) Open Termux and type: "su" + Enter + "props" + Enter
6) Now you have MagiskHide Props menu open under the terminal
7) Press option 1 - "Edit Device Fingerprint"
8) Press option f - "Pick a Device Fingerprint"
9) Press option 22 - "POCO"
10) Press option 3 - "POCO X2" (our X3 is still not in the repository - X2 works just fine as you can theoretically even choose any device fingerprint)
11) Reboot
12) Open Termux and type: "su" + Enter + "props" + Enter
13) Now you have MagiskHide Props menu open under the terminal
14) Press option 2 - "Force BASIC key attestation"
15) Press option f - "Pick from device list"
16) Press option 22 - "POCO"
17) Press option 3 - "POCO X2" (our X3 is still not in the repository - X2 works just fine as you can theoretically even choose any device fingerprint)
18) Reboot
19) Open Magisk, Select "Tap to Start SafetyNet check" and you should get it all green like I got
Cheers :good:

works for me too! thx!
Working, MIUI EU Rom, thanks!
Worked for me to activate Google pay for NFC.
Thank you!
Is this working for official global rom rooted?
Can someone tell me exactly what version of TWRP are you using( working format data, wipes,Etc) and what EU rom link I don't see on the official page...
Does it comes with OTA( obviously based on global there isn't chinese rom, but there is a stable and weekly) ? we lose L1 right ? ... Good time to start a persist partition backup?
Sadly it doesn't really work finally when you try to pay on a store. I'll leave some screenshots about why this is happening. I tried with various stores and It simply won't make the payment no matter how you try or how you touch the permissions battery options etc
This tutorial only lets you to add the cards successfully to google pay, but you can't pay with any of them on stores. (me at least, can anyone else confirm?)
I'ts pretty sad since I really love xiaomi.eu, but I think that, again, I will have to roll back to stock rom sadly until this problem get fixed at all.
@kralde
- in apps open google pay and delete data
- in apps open google play services and delete data
Then restart the setup in google pay.

Hello,
sadly, this didn't worked as well.
I'm getting the same as in my previous screenshot "Not set up" and "your phone doesn't meet the security etc"
Still have to try to pay somewhere later, but it seems bad.
I guess I'm stuck without Google Pay with this rom.
Thanks anyway all of you for your help!
EDIT: Ok guys, tried again deleting google Pay app, reinstalled it, and in the middle of the set up, it auto closes itself, and when I opened again it was in Spanish (which is normal, since that was my system language, but was on english before) , after that, everything is working! At least it seems so, will try to pay somewhere later
Thanks a lot!!

Good to here you are making progress! Hope payments go through this time!
Well, sad ending for this story
After trying payments in about 3 different stores, the payments just fail. It doesn't complete the payment at all, even showing all the config and etc ok.
I wanna thank you all for all your help.
I decided to move finally to the stock global until this problem is fixed directly in the rom itself (if eveR)
Thanks a lot and sorry for taking your time helping me!
