Nova Launcher - Knock On feature not working - G Pad 8.3 Themes and Apps

This is obviously for the v500 version.. Has anyone installed nova launcher and was able to use the knock-on feature to turn off the screen? I can't get it work
The feature works fine to turn on the screen
Thanks

The screen off anywhere function only works on the LG Launcher. The only way to turn the screen off anywhere else (inside an app, system settings, using another launcher like nova) is to double tap on the notification shade on the top of the screen.
If you're CM rom, the screen off function does not work at all yet. Screen on, fortunately, does.

Awesome! Thanks so much,
Didn't know that this feature works in the notification area. That's good enough for me. ☺

You can also download Turn Off Screen from Play Store and in Nova gestures you assign Double tap to call Turn Off Screen shortcut

Ah, quite useful. I was afraid there'd be a persistent notification . I really have to make use of the gesture feature in novs.

I am using the double tap gesture setting of Nova and Screen Off.

GMD is another option, works on any launcher, anywhere with gestures for screen off.

Rooting is quite easy and well worth it if you want to do anything other than use the base features and base everything. Many people even take it a step further and put custom ROMs on to get updated Operating systems or unlock other features. Within this subforum is a thread all about roots and roms and helps explain everything in very simple easy to understand terms.
Here is the link o the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554121
Good luck! Let us know if and when you have rooted and we can help you get the knock knock feature going to turn your screen off in nova launcher
Edit: It does look like the suggestion of using screen off does NOT require root, the app just needs to be set as an admin which can we done within android without having to root.

good find.. ty
I am using this. Works great. Probably a 3 star app. What i did was i put all the apps in one folder so they didnt go across all my screens, then i put this app's short cut on my dock bar. Works great. Its just very none aesthetically pleasing. Could use some more customization, maybe some sorting or something like that.

I tried MIUI last night, I also installed this, but what I just ended up doing was removing this and put everything i didnt want on my homescreens in one folder and put that folder as the middle dock icon, and it basically works just like an app drawer, u can change the sorting to numerous options including by usage, which i thought was really cool.. the folder also has a neat open and close animation when u click it (when it is in the dock anyway). I always end up going back to some stock derived rom though, I just feel like I am losing features going to cyanogen or MIUI

Enable Software Buttons for ICS Passion v10.6 (1-8-2012) Version 0.1

Disclaimer:
Currently this is not fully tested and could cause instability and crashes.
***USE AT YOUR OWN RISK***
Do not use with any other ROM besides neobuddy89's ICS Passion Version 10.6
This mod adds the onscreen software buttons for neobuddy89's ICS Passion ROM version 10.6 found here
This is based on evilisto's guide found here
What this Mod Does:
Adds onscreen buttons like you would normally find on phones and tablets which have no physical buttons.
This mod adds home, back and recent app buttons at the bottom of the screen (or on the right side in landscape mode)
Why would you want this?
1. because you can.
2. ever been in low light conditions, using your screen filter app to dim your screen nice and comfortably low when BAM your blinded because you hit the back button?
3. it looks neat.
Instructions:
1. backup everything in case you need to revert.
2. its a good idea to make a backup of your current framework-res.apk (found in system/framework)
3. disable your lockscreen (this is a current bug I hope to fix soon)
4. download the attached framework-res.apk
5. either use adb or a root file browser to replace the current framework-res.apk with the new one.
6. reboot (if you've done this through a file browser on the phone it will likely do this by itself)
6. enjoy
Current Known Issues:
1. The lockscreen becomes extra large and the locking mechanism is displayed slightly off screen. (you can still use it but it is very difficult to get the lock to catch)
2. the settings menu looks different, some of the text is not formatted correctly.
3. the keyboard overlaps slightly. (it is still usable but you might hit a soft button occasionally when going for the space bar)
4. this appears to take away the additional items on the reboot menu.
5. more of a downside than an actual bug and its likely implied but this takes up an extra little bit of your screen.
6. It made me re-sign in to google I cant say this will happen to everyone.
7. probably quite a few more bugs I haven't found yet.
Please feel free to let me know of any additional bugs you find.
Special thanks to Neobuddy for an awesome ROM
and of course to evilisto for the Idea.

Changing the screen density would work but it also causes some app compatibility issues.
Mostly small issues like the apps not filling the screen.
But I am hoping to find a workaround that does not require this.
Of course if your already changing screen density then this shouldn't be a problem for you anyways
I'll play around with it and update the op with the correct density for those who want to go that route for now.
Thanks for the feedback guys.

Change density + market enabler = problem solved??
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
The market actually works it just makes you sign back in once after installing the mod.
And I'm not entirely convinced it wasn't just a fluke.
I've been playing with LCD density changer from the market and it doesn't seem to be changing the home screen for me randomly.
It does make the keyboard a bit smaller but pushes it to the left.
I'm still playing with it though.
Hopefully I'll find a good setting
Does anyone use a density changer on ics?

Yeah I don't want to just flash this and be like ehhhh and then revert it... I want to be able to have a switch to turn it on and off, that'd be great, but its a bit hard to implement i would guess.
I'm still working on it but progress is slow during the week because of work. And my sister is getting married this weekend.
I expect to work on it a lot more next weekend. Although with any luck I'll get something working sooner.
Basically I've found that enabling the soft buttons seems to enable all tablet oriented options even when they are specifically set to off.
I'm currently trying to find a workaround for that.
I did find a couple other fun but mildly pointless options as well like allowing the lock screen to rotate.
Or disabling the screen turning on when plugging or unplugging the phone.
But I'll play with those a bit after I get the soft buttons fully working.

[Q] Change lockscreen on stock/deblur ROM?

I rooted and deblurred my Photon, and now I'm happily running ADW Launcher with an ICS theme. Now, is there a way to change the lockscreen as well? I'd love to be able to access the camera directly from the lockscreen.

I downloaded Go Locker and it made me download Go Launcher EX as well. Oh well, I was gonna try it anyway. It looks good so far.
You could always test each and see which is the most functional for you...you can also try locked roms such as rocko and imperial found in the development section
The most reliable one I've found is MiLocker, it has alot of options too.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
I've come to the determination that WidgetLocker is the cheapest, most configurable lock screen.
GO Locker and Magic Locker are both free to install, but each theme can only be configured a little bit. Free ones are rare and limited, and you're asked to pay at every turn. It's really annoying. I scored WL for 99¢ on sale, but even for the full price of $2.99, it's worth it to pay once and never be bothered again.
Also, you can configure your launch screen pretty much any way you like. There are some cool unlock gimmicks I've seen other launchers use, and I wish WL would add some of them, but the fact that you can make your own lock screen is pretty cool. I wish I could configure one up and save it, and repeat, and have a gallery of lock screens I've made, like the others have, but I'm fine just evolving the one as I see fit.
WL doesn't work on its own, and I don't suppose any of them do. You have to download an app called "No Lock" to get rid of the stock lock screen.
And none of these are valid options if you want security. For that, you have to disable your custom lock screen and use the system one.
Actually MiLocker is totally free, doesn't ask for donations and after reboot the stock lock screen shows up once then it's just MiLocker. The only down side is many of the themes use Asia characters in them.

Download Nova launcher and then you can put an icon on your homescreen that let's you get into the multitasking menu with one press.
It will work with TW too.

Not only nova you can have it in apex too, in fact you can simply bring the recent apps menu by making a swipe gesture on home screen
《tapatalked from galaxy s3》
I'm not sure if it works on the gs3, but I use an amazing app on my transformer prime called gesture control.
It basically allows you to define actions by using gestures.
You can define two, three, and four finger gestures.
It really is great. Needs root though.
So you can define a gesture for bringing up the multitasking menu and it works throughout the whole system anywhere.
You don't have to be on the launcher homescreen .
Here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontroldemo
tried apex launcher but couldnt get it to work when im inside an app. ill try gesture control. anyone else have any suggestion for me
anyone can give me suggestion on a great gesture app that can open the recent app from anywhere?
Wave launcher is also cool multitasker. Quite different though.
Also looking for this, something like zephyr for IOS that works inside apps. It allows to close an app just sweeping from bottom to top.

i tried the app and it worked great. Can I ask what the risk of enabling usb debugging is? Im kinda paranoid of what it does, also can you suggest to me what good gesture is best to bring up the recent app list?
What does usb debugging do?
I don't understand why you don't just want to hold home? Plus when on this screen if you swype to left or right the preview is binned.
As for killing apps, Android runs on linux, linux manages ram very well and indeed runs better when you don't keep closing things all the time, it caches processes to save you time and battery when you next need them!
I use a app called "multitask shortcut" which is awesome and it only cost .50 dollars. It doesnt work inside apps though. I wish there was something like Zephyr for Android. It was awesome on the iPhone.

Knock on Dead
I set this up quickly, but then killed it because it disabled knock on. Also the nav bar was still the LG one so it kind of looked weird to me. And yes the icons were garrishly large. I liked the 5x5 grid on the stock launcher and this made me feel like I was using a Fischer Price launcher with the huge buttons. The killing blow for me was that I could not switch easily back to stock launcher and had to uninstall the new 4.4 launcher.
if it could work with Knock on, I might give it another go. (unless I was doing something wrong and there s a way to make it work.)

So, can "OK google" be installed by itself? Or does it require apks other than google search? What I'm curious about is, does it fully integrate with calender, etc.?And for those that did install it, how is the battery with it on? Can it be turned off, or does it require uninstall?
