[GT-i9152][KERNEL][Discussion-Thread] Project-Crater [4.2.2+] - Samsung Galaxy Mega

We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear
war, or the current economic crisis caused by you following these directions.
YOU are choosing to make these modificiations, and if you point the finger at
us for messing up your device, we will laugh at you.
In a serious Note,Kernel level flashing and development is pretty serious.Only brave at heart should try flashing this down.Remember to make TWRP/CWM backups and even Keep ODIN and Stock firmwares ready,it can be necessary to flash the device full due to bootloops or any such issues. My Request Please don't try to flash this if you don't know what you are doing or what this is. Neither Samsung Nor Me will take resoonsibility,if anything happens to your device.

Hi this is the discussion thread for a kernel for Crater.

Sounds great... recently inherited this handset but was stunned to find nothing in the way of custom rom support so this is great news
Can you you please as to any known issues so I have better idea of what to expect before flashing? It's still a casual toy at this stage (running Carbon nightlies on the S2 which is my primary device) but just like to go in educated.
Cheers

Linaro Shouldnt Break any modules. But I am posting new build soon. With probably a new governor. Should work just fine

There is an issue reported about the battery depletes suddenly upon reaching below 20% HERE.
Maybe this function can be enabled in the kernel to solve this problem ? "ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=1"

i have already patched the battery.
Someone should test it out,if it works,i will open a development thread.
Added new builds.

i wiill be releasing new builds everyday. Please list some of the governors or I/O schedulers you would like to see included in this. This is a community project. I am working on overclocking, but its the first time for me to be working on Broadcom SOC,its a bit confusing inside. It would be helpful if some of you guys could provide maybe some screenshots of the "about Phone" area after flashing this.

I tried ALL your suggestions(DEP cannot be disabled on odin so fixing video not applicable) but I still get the ODIN download error on windows 7. Another error type shows on XP.
Because of this error I am not able to test your files as odin stops working,Sorry.
Whether it is a windows error or something else I don't know but one thing is sure for me....it DEFINITELY has something to do with your kernel file.Seems that there is something on the kernel file triggering this errors.
ODIN is working without any error using stock firmware also on the "sammy kernel" found on the development section..
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

Same errors,,,,rittik, like before....

[KERNEL][WIP}i920X Touchwiz JB(4.2.2)(Production Phase)

This kernel will be kept simple and inline with stock and free from buzzfree stuff..as the aim is a stable day-to-day use kernel..this kernel is NOT for those who want to break records..as i do not believe and rely on benchmarks..(its me..)
Disclaimer:
i nor xda would be at fault if something weird beyond my test results happen to your phone..also this is not a benchmark kernel..if you like crunching numbers and breaking records go use another kernel..this is meant to save juice and be efficient and stable as a daily driver for Samsung based ROMS..
Features:
- Based on i9205/i9195 source from Samsung OSRC(Thanks for the borked source)
- Fixed a few things left by Samsung to be broken
- Simple and no fancy stuff thats gonna bork your phones..more stuff does not guarantee it's better..
- User voltage control from faux123 for Krait CPU's..
- EXFat support(by Samsung OSRC..)
- OC(if already stable)
- will populate more as things get stable
- Selinux permission is set from enforcing to permissive via ramdisk
- insecure boot image
- Disabled Rooting security measures implemented by Samsung..
Pre-requisites
- Install busybox via CWM or via Playstore before installing my kernel..this is to make sure init.d and also some scripts work properly..
Downloads here: Test build 5(ML1 Ramdisk)

Credits:
- noone in particular but thanks to ALL the wonderful devs here in XDA..
If you like the builds please help me get a Soda/pay bills..or the least is just hit the Thanks Button..
one more in case..
uploading..
please report/feedback on any issue you might encounter..please do provide logs(last_kmsg, logcats, dmesg...etc..) so that i can shoot things out..i do not own the device yet and surely things can go wacky along the way..
TIA
kindly someone report if the build boots up..
What do you mean with those features?

thanks will invetigate the logs provided..can you upload a stock image of the i9200 btw??so i can check if there are specific differences from the ramdisk of the i9200 from i9205..afaik aside from the LTE there should be other differences from them..
re: root it might have been because of the ramdisk i used..can you shift to Koush's superuser??chainfire's supersu has been finicky with my HTC 4.3 update but Koush's never had a glitch..
Thank you very much for the feedback!!

Same one. My issue was my kernel . I did not want to release a build that would get stuck on bootlogo I had batman test recovery to make sure it worked we got it working by pulling defconfig from the device.

CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
This Support of the CyanogenMod is Unofficial and the sources are up at Androidarmv7.
STRICTLY FOR DEVELOPERS ONLY, NOOBS PLEASE DONT INSTALL IT NOW.
Don't know when Samsung will officially announce Kitkat update for our Galaxy Grand 2, so thought to create own CM-11 (Kitkat 4.4.4).
The ROM zip file is ready to test but at present it is giving Error 7 while flashing in Recoveries (TWRP, CWM and Philz). I have tried many times to get success in all recoveries but still no luck, so thought to share with other developers to check and find the error. At present it is not on github so please dont ask for link, will upload it soon. I have just compiled it from CyanogenMod source in my pc only.
I've got this idea to share with other developers from past experience with LG-P500. It is almost 4 years old phone and still running with KITKAT (see my signature). Developer AndroidMeda from Jenkins initially developed that rom for LG-P500 users without any success for almost 2 weeks from its release date and all lg-p500 developers/users tried their luck to get success. Luckly I was the first one to taste yummy KitKat on LG-P500 and after that it all went smooth.
So I am hopeful and looking forward to developers to get success soon for Grand 2 too.
Sharing ROM Link and my unsuccessful recovery logcat for reference.

[ROM][5.0.2][Lollipop][Official] NamelessROM 2.0 [ALPHA] [20141228][Blazing Fast]

What is NamelessROM?
NamelessROM Gerrit Review
What is NamelessROM ?
Simple - NamelessROM is opportunity.
An opportunity to have a voice to the development team of the after-market firmware that you run on your device.
The main goal of NamelessROM is to provide quality development for android devices, phones and tablets alike.
NamelessROM developers are available nearly 24/7 and respond to bug reports and feature requests almost instantly.
This availability will allow you, the end-user, to have direct input into exactly what features and functions are included on the firmware that YOU run.
NamelessROM maintains features and functions of several well-known open-source, AOSP-based ROMs, as well as many features of our own.
Visit our website for more detailed information.
NamelessROM = endless possibilities. Unless you have an iPhone, then you're out of luck.

I still don't know if you are talking about mine build, or yours.
If you are talking about yours, try replacing adb binary with insecure one

-- This is my first rom, that I build from scratch using several guides on xda I hope that it will jump start development for our lovely phone and provide more data and useful files to ongoing custom roms. You can use this rom to make CUSTOM STOCK ROM's, and it would be nice if you mentioned me as source for your rom
-- I didn't test it since my phone is not rotted yet and I didn't unlock bootloader I hope that you will test this rom, since I didn't change anything from stock and I just extracted it and made odex and deodexed version.
Next thing I plan is to root and unlock bootloader on my phone and to try to use G3 theme and apps from G2 stock roms I will keep you updated as times goes bye, but you are free to do it on your own since I don't know when will I have time since holidays are coming
Steps of extracting rom:
1. I have used first 8 steps from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50743197&postcount=1
2. After that I have made flashable zip using step 3 from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54935317&postcount=1
3. system.img is in ext2 format, so I used Ext2Explore to extract all the folders
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41818037&postcount=1
4. Rom is now in ODEX form, so I needed to DEODEX it:

Yes it is
Next week I will root and unlock bootloader on my phone, and then try to make stock rom with G3 apps
I have problem. I wanted flash this ROM but in twrp i was an error "Can't mount /system". After this, my system came bootloop... i dont know what i doing wrong. (I flash this from Crystal PA rom).
Since author dont test it dont flash this rom. I dont see any point to publish the untested rom.

Sorry to hear that, I hoped that it ould work from the start, since I didn't do any modification. I will try it myself next week and report if I succeed in making it work without problem

I have published it as my first try of making ROM, and as potential source of drivers and modules for other developers
I have found out that my update script in METAINF folder was missing, that is why /system was not mounted. I have fixed it, and I will test it in 1-2 days. So if everything works we will have flashable stock ROM
test it first pls

Since you made working build, it is better to make your on thread.... It is your work
I made build that probably works, but I didn't have time to test it.
I will close my thread
