[Q] How to update CWM on tablet - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Hi
I just bought a second hand nook tablet and it was flashed the CM10.2, I'm preparing to flash CM11 on it, but it seems the recovery is a bit older.
I download the latest recovery.img from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2585175.
But I've no idea about how to update the recovery, could anyone give some help? Thanks in advance.

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47680141&postcount=2.

Oops.

Here's how:
Download any flashable internal recovery zip file (e.g., flashable_CWM_6.0.2.9.zip from Succulent's repo http://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim/recovery).
Use an archive file manager such as 7-zip to delete and replace the recovery.img inside the flashable zip file with your choice of TWRP (internal recovery) file from http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/acclaim (e.g., openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-acclaim.img); remember to rename the downloaded TWRP .img file to recovery.img before inserting it into the zip file.
Flash the resulting flashable recovery zip file using current EMMC recovery or SD-based recovery.

The update.zip file that is supposed to reside in the sdcard folder.
What? Are you talking about the CWM recovery update.zip? if so, there isnn't one to be found unless you put one there... it's just a default name that you could use to make it easy. You have to pick choose zip from sdcard and browse to whatever zip on the sdcard you want to apply...

so the rom doesnt show up in cwm?
make sure the extension is .zip
also check if its inside some folder and not directly in root directory of sdcard
On the computer open up the .tar file and see if the .zip file of the rom is in there the TAR extension is a compressed file which has other files in it

[Q] Replace recovery.img with cwm recovery

This is my first time trying to root my Micromax Canvas HD.
I am trying to install CWM recovery using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167621
However I am stuck in the second step itself. I have extracted the "Kernel Source" SouceCode(IQ451_4.1).zip file. But I am not able to find any recovery.img file to replace. What is the problem here? Have I downloaded the wrong file? Should I download something else?
While trying to extract the zip file, Winrar asked me if I want to rename the duplicate files, because there were a few files with the same name but different size. I asked Winrar to rename the files. Is this a problem?
I am completely new to this field, so I am not exactly sure what I am doing wrong.
Any help regarding this problem would be of great help to me. Please tell me of the things that need to be taken care of before rooting my phone.
Thanks a lot.

Use mobile uncle tools instead of the above method.. Download recovery... Rename it to recovery.img... Place it in sd card... Not in any folder.. Just inside sd card.. Open mobile uncle tools... Update recovery.. It automatically detects the file in sd card... Select... Flash...reboot.. Done...
Hit thanks if this helped..

Is there no other solution? Will I be able to use the files that I have already downloaded?
I have tried loading the recovery.img file through the Flash tool, but it asks me to select the path for the PRELOADER..
How do I find the preloader file?
You can use the downloaded file... Why do you want to use the flash tools method when the thing can be done in 2 clicks..

TWRP can copy error logs to your sdcard. If you do so, you can see the exact error in your zip files.
My guess is that your zip files were re-compressed using some 3rd party software like WinZip/WinRAR, or maybe the build-in Windows zip compressor. Hence these are probably missing something in the zip file-header that TWRP is looking for.
I faced a similar issue when I used the WindowsXP built in zip compressor. I would advice you to unzip your files, and re-zip them using Info-Zip.
http://www.info-zip.org/
I was able to flash my zip files after I re-compressed them using the command line zip tools from Info-Zip.

SD formatted as internal storage

With my external SD formatted as internal storage, CR Droid Rom file can't be found for me to flash it. No matter where I put the zip file, I can't find it when I go into Recovery. Any ideas?

Both storage showing in recovery??
Make sure you didn't change from zip to rar..
In Recovery under storage it has the internal storage which includes the SD card and then a small external of 15mb. And yes, it's still a zip file.

You can download it from twrp site and flash it via adb...
Yeah, it's not working via the TWRP app. ADB is through a computer, right?

Yes. .
Download recovery.IMG and flash it by this command..
fastboot flash recovery recovery name.img
I downloaded the latest twrp and the filename is twrp-3.1.1-0-kiwi. Using that command I added . img at the end of the filename. I received an error in ADB stating it cannot load that file. I just t looked at the instructions and I forgot to wipe the system and cache before installing the new CR Droid zip. Does that make a difference? Should I do that and try installing the new version of the Rom? Or will the issue of not being able to see the Rom zip file still be there?

No need to wipe anything..
Rename recovery to just twrp.IMG and then try again..
Twrp you are flashing should be in the adb folder..
Renamed it to just twrp and got the same error message. What I was asking about wiping the cache and system is if I want to install the latest CR Droid Rom. I really appreciate your help and please don't feel like you're committed to helping. I may just see if I can flash the new ROM using adb

It shouldn't give that error...
You can flash new twrp with old twrp too..
Just copy it in SD and and click installed/image and locate and flash it in recovery partition....
Caution don't flash it in boot partition..
No you cannot flash custom ROM via adb fast boot... You need a twrp recovery to flash that...
I gave the TWRP app another read try and it worked. I was able to update twrp and that allowed me to install the new ROM. Thanks for your tips and help!
