Bootanimation Issue - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
So I recently updated my SGS3 to 4.4 and it's awesome. But when I try to install a custom boot animation (Windows BIOS), the boot animation is actually just the android logo. This exact animation worked on 4.3 so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if there's something else to it. I've tried both cwm flashable and manual install and both are the same problem. If someone has a link to a working one that'd be muchly appreciated!
Also the bootanimation in 17 mb, seems a bit big compared to some?
Thanks in advance!

when i use my stock ROM 2.3.4 there is one file named bootanimation.zip in /system/media . its possible to change it.
but now, I use gingerbread 2.3.6 and i can't find that file.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now i can change may boot animation. its easy dude. just download ur favorite boot animation and place it in /data/local
Sorry for any mistake, my English is not so good. After reading theese few posts i searched in my Galaxy Ace (no brand Italy; stock ROM GingerBread 2.3.6 build XWKT7) and i tried to put in data/local a custom bootanimation.zip. After that i rebooted it and there was no change. It displayed me its stock bootanimation. Where do I have made a mistake?
Thank you, J-Hope.
U need to overwrite original bootanimation.zip file

Well, I searched in data/local and also in system/media and I don't have any. I have .qmg files on my 2.3.6 stock ROM... If you need some screenshots just tell me. Thank you, J-Hope

first make sure that you dont have any files in media file except audio if you have others delete them and now copy any bootanimation.zip to your media file and it will work
Just copy/replace in system media And You Can Use that
So sad men, it doesn't work. The only problem is that I haven't got any bootanimation.zip to replace: I have 2 files bootanimation.qmg and samsungloop.qmg.
I've tried to move everything except audio and put a custom bootanimation.zip in system/media but it boots with a black screen and I can't see the bootanimation. Maybe it doesn't work on Italian stock 2.3.6.
Thanks for your help, again.

CM9 Boot Animation! (Updated)

Made 540 by 960 CM9 Boot Animation
Unlike others this is true 540 by 960, loops properly, and works. Plus I made it flashable.
To Install
-----------
Simply download and flash
or
do it manual
Downloads
-----------
V3 Boot Animation
New bootanimation, and no this isn't the stock one that comes with the new CM9 ROMs although it is based on it. The stock one has some serious pixelation with the black background but was higher quality after the "burst" effect. So I merged V2 and the stock together making an overall better quality bootanimation. Also the beginning of the boot animation is alot shorter in the stock. Another thing is that the stock bootanim felt quite slow so I sped that up a bit also.
OUTDATED

LQ Boot Animation
HQ Boot Animation because of the size and number of pictures, it won't be as smooth as LQ/V2
Reduced and Quicker Animation V2 Smoother, faster frame rate, Medium Quality
if animation speed of V2 is too fast click here to download V2s
Downloading now... Thanks!!
Downloaded LQ and installed... works great. Downloaded HQ, but have not installed. May try it later!
Thanks for the share!
Your welcome, I might release a newer version with lower size while still retaining quality later.

Nice!!! i saw this on youtube yesterday, and was trying to find a file for it somewhere, thank you!
New Boot Animation Version. Resized to QHD and compressed, check OP.
Original File from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22862145&postcount=46
Changes.
Well every 5th picture is removed, making file smaller.
Frame rate is increased to 60 making the animation faster.
Quality is between LQ and HQ versions and the only notable difference is that it's faster and a bit smoother. If you like the slower animation check the OP for slower version.
tried the high quality version and well it looks nice, its just not very smooth kinda laggy/jerky gonna try the reduced one.
thank you
Loving this animation. Was really getting tired of the nexus boot, thanx

do you have to have CM9 for this to work? I wanted to use this boot animation just to have something different but it won't let me copy the bootanimation.zip file to my system/media folder

Everytime I try to copy the bootanimation.zip file to the /system/media folder, it fails. Other ones work though. I cant figure it out
edit: nvm tried putting it in my /data/local folder and it worked... go figure never had to do that before
Kk the flash works for cm7 and cm9 and also any ex4 rom. Ex3 roms such as stock blur probably wont flash, though its really easy to change update script to ex3.
Anyway the bootanimation.zip should work on all. Did you check permissions? Also try using root explorer and make sure you have enough space in the /system partition (HQ might be too large try LQ)

I have the reduced and quicker installed on my phone. Even with faux's 1.45 kernel it always freezes for one second twice during boot, i've wiped everything and used it on every ics rom out. it doesn't really bother me, it still looks so sweet i don't care. Are people having better luck with a different one? Thanks so much either way.
I've never changed my boot animation before, and I was just wondering if by flash it you mean do as I would do to flash a new rom? Or is there a different process for boot animations?
Thanks in advance and thanks for the great boot animation, this looks so amazing!

Very simple steps. I'm using CM7 with Neutirno build and the animation works great! At first I thought I was stuck on the boot menu with the Motorola M but I just had to wait a little. Thanks for the boot animation!

This Boot anim flash in which location?
The official cm9 bootanim has a bunch of frames so even with good compression and fast CPU its going to lag. Plus the phone is using most of its resources booting up so there's going to be a bit of lag.

The bootanimation.zip is located in system/media. Get the bootanimation.zip in the flash file, move to system/media, and set permissions if you want manually install. However its much simpler flashing.

flashable crt on off zip animation mod on rooted stock ics EDIT: solved see below

hello guys, just want to ask if their is any flashable zip crt on off animation available on stock rooted ics on our phone? i have searched but it is only available package to custom roms and have see some flashable zip for the i900 phone but none for the i777. I don't want to customized much my phone as I'm quite satisfied of it now except for this crt off effect which is lacking. there's an app in the market but it seems feel not native to the phone. Ay link, guides or flashable zip(the better) is highly appreciated. I hope I'm not asking too much. Thnx folks.
Edit: There is now CRT Animation zip flashable thru CWM and confirmed working on Stock At&t ICS. I am not the one who make this Zip it is thru the effort of one of the helpful member here callMeAria and thought I would share for everyone to enjoy, so thanks him for making it easy for us with a stock ICS firmware to have the CRT animation implemented on our phone. The file can be found on post #8 of this thread or click the links below. I am not responsible if something happen to your phone when you flash this file it is imperative to make a recovery backup before flashing anything. There are 2 files first is for the CRT animation, the second one is to make return to your previous state easier by flashing it thru CWM if something not good happens when flashing. Enjoy:good:

If you upload your framework-res.apk I can knock it out real quick in a flashable zip. Should only take a few mins once I get it.
EDIT: Let me know what rom it is as well. That way people don't go flashing it for the wrong ROM

Hello CallMeAria, thanks for your interest. I am running on stock At&t 4.0.3 ICS firmware running Siyah kernel and I have attached my framework-res.apk also on the attachment below. Thanks again have a Great day.:good:
Got it. I'll knock that out for you in a bit (sons watching a movie on the computer )
Heres the modified framework-res.apk with the crt animation:
Flashable CRT Animation
And since I havent tested that one, heres the stock framework-res.apk so you can flash back:
Flashable Stock Framework-res.apk
Like I said, I didnt actually test this yet (im running cm10 atm). It should work, but you never know when something doesnt compile just right :silly: Worst case scenario is boot loop, in which case you just flash the stock framework i posted. Best case is it works and in between is I messed up and the animation isnt enabled If it doesnt work, then just let me know and I'll give it another go. Takes all of 5 mins each time around.
EDIT: If it does work, go ahead and put the links up in your original post so its easier for people to find.
crt screen off working

Changing boot animation

I tried several times to search for a guide that could teach me how to change my boot animation, but i could never find one for the i9100, all i found was some for the epic 4g touch and some others.
i also heard that i needed a kernel that allowed such modification, im currently running cm10 latest nightly with cm kernel, can i do this ?
if anyone feels like explaining me how to change it or could give me a link with a proper guide for my device, i'd appreciate it.
Just replaced bootanimation.zip on my system folder and worked... Thread can be closed/deleted, sorry
Or even download rom toolbox from play store and choose an animation then install. Simples
