Just flash Siyah kernel or Speedmod kernel via odin for safety purpose.
visit this thread for the reason why I'm recommending a custom kernel

[Q] Little confused - pls help

Hi
I'm a pretty much noob but have rooted my S2 and now my S3 and so am not a total noob.
I wanted to post this question in the Hacking section but it says no Noobs - so, just wanted to try get an answer here before i post in the Hac king section.
Anyway, i want to update my kernel but i've searched and can't seem to find out if a kernel is specific to a phone version. I am in Ireland and my details are
Model : GT-I9300
Android 4.1.1
Baseband ver I9300NEDLI1
Kernel ver
3.0.31-288630
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Mon Oct 8 12:58:21 KST
2012
Build Number
JR003C.I9300XXDLJ1
I wanted to try Siyah Kernel and wanted to flash it via MobileOdin, which i have.
Can anyone tell me if the kernel will work on any version of the s3 ?
TIA
Rob
