"Android System" battery drain too high - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've tried a couple of roms recently, but I am a bit bothered by the battery usage by "Android system".
My phone is only giving me around 4 hours of screen-on time.
Sometimes, these system processes:
Binder_2
kswapd0
Peak my phone CPU usage. Under "screen", they are usually the top consumers. Is this normal?

Here I was playing ingress on and off for around 4 hours. For those of you who are not familiar with it, this is a game that uses GPS, Wifi, a mobile data connection, and your GPU, all at once. The battery drain was so bad I had to plug in my battery pack just to get through these 4 hours. And note - the screen was not even on the whole time! Point being, android os and android system managed to consume more power than ingress for that period of time.

I see nth wrong. Looks logical.

[Q] Quick question about my battery graph

Just curious, do the blue bars beneath the graph correlate with the time axis above it?
Would I be right in thinking that my battery life plummeted as soon as I turned off wifi?

Yes. Probably more likely to be related to screen on, and possibly mobile data. Depending on the brightness, it seems like 4-6 hours of screen on will eat the battery.
Yes it does correlate.
The thing is you just had WiFi on for some period, but you didn't do much in that specific time, it was just on. But just after you had turned it off some apps or processes kept running and you also used the device.
That graph looks pretty fine to me.
Regards.

That's not true screen by itself will not eat battery so fast , review site did media playback test of SD material and battery lasted little over 9 hours.
Only combination of radio+CPU+display will get you 4 hour mark, that's worst case scenario.
Cool, thanks for the replies. Makes sense now

Suddenly android OS is eating up alot of battery, much more than usual

This dont usually happen. In fact, it only happen once.
All this while, the display always use the most battery life, about 50%
followed by android OS, about 10-15%.
my phone was fully charged before i sleep.
but i woke up with 5% battery left, the battery info says android OS used 60%!!
here is screenshot as proof.
i'm really confused, the phone state is appear to be NOT awake,
but the CPU usage is 1000MHz constantly while i sleep.
all this while i've been using rom tool box CPU slider to underclock it to 1000MHz, so thats the maximum my phone can go. i prefer it that way so its much less warm.
any idea whats causing this? as i mention before, this only happen once.
Even so, i'm very curious about this. any one experience this before? or know whats goin on?

Internet draining battery

I and some other people on android central have had some strange activity with the battery drain and the internet app since the last official ota. I did a little experiment last night and put my phone into airplane mode after charging it and restarting it. Sure enough, this morning:

}
I would do a factory reset but my laptop died and I'm away from my desktop. Has anyone else experienced this aberrant internet activity on the stock ROM?
Have you tried disabling the syncing options under your Google account for things like internet to try and see if it changes anything.
You should use an app like better battery stats (available free for XDA users here on the site) or gsam battery monitor to see some more specific information.
Also use one of those apps to see if its using power when it has a data connection. In other words if its using more battery because its constantly trying to sync something while there is no data connection.

Looks like your screen is eating a lot of battery.
Try reducing the brightness to minimum.
Also the OS on your phone takes some time to set itself up so wait a days or two and then check it again.
Also there have already been many threads adressing the same issue, starting a new thread without searching is not a healthy habit.

I can highly recommend greenify (when you have root access). It can solve a lot of battery drain problems, due to stopping unwanted backup processes from running.

After few minutes opening FB
When after playing PUBG for 10 minutes, device can heat up to 60 C
is it normal?
thank you
Iam finding your honor 10 overheating reason.
Forgive me when my language problem. I am beginner with language.
In screenshot 1st and 2nd you are using "wifi" and at a time charging your phone.
In screenshot 2nd you are "downloading a file" (i thought you download an app from playstore), and you downloaded a file from playstore".
76%(screenshot 1st battery percentage) - 69%(screenshot 2nd battery percentage) = 7% Percentage battery drained/56 min. How is it possible 7% Percentage battery drained/56 min. I thought you used these process using at a time with charging.
This is the reason for your honor 10 heating. This cause your phone battery. I mean battery draining, bulging, exploding.
